At 59 yo and rented cars all over the world GREEN MOTION is the WORST EXPERIENCE yet! It ended up costing a lot more than expected. Hard sell to upgrade! I got a parking ticket that was not correct. The ticket was cancelled but they still charged me 68 pounds admin fee. I wrote to them re this and weeks later no reply! I was lured in by what appeared to be cheaper rates but I was completely misled! They will never see me again. Show details

RUNNAWAY from this company! 1- The price to to make the insurance its the biggest i ever seen. 2- after they charged for damages that was before. 3- never take a car with damage 4- ask to verify the car in front of you ( they dont accept because there is no transparency ) 5- its a big trap ! From competitive price to the friendly and efficient meet and greet at the airport by Khan, Isaiah and Kyle and handover with Kabelo, we were very happy with the service provided by Green Motion at King Shaka Airport in Durban. Thank you so much! I will definitely be using Green Motion when I visit Durban next. Show details
I would give zero stars if I could. I hired a car from Green Motion for 3 days. I arrived late at night, waited a long time to be served, and was told it was a simple rental agreement. Nothing was clearly explained about extra “admin” fees or congestion/traffic charges. After I returned home to Australia, I started receiving multiple “admin fee”… Read more
charges for fines I had not been properly informed about, plus a congestion charge for driving in London. The original congestion fee was small if paid on the day but as i was not advised of this it ended up at around £90 plus a £68 “admin fee” from Green Motion just for sending a single email.
It got worse: I have now been hit with 5 separate admin fees, totalling about £340 just for “processing” emails. On top of that, Green Motion paid approximately £450 of fines directly to the London council without giving me any opportunity to contest or reduce them.
Despite multiple emails from me, Green Motion refuses to reconsider any of these charges and is now threatening to charge my credit card around £790 in total.
In my opinion, their business model relies on excessive admin fees and a complete lack of transparency at the point of rental. The actual rental cost is nothing compared to what you will pay later in hidden charges.
I will never rent from Green Motion again, and I strongly recommend that others avoid them if they want a fair and transparent car hire experience.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Rented a vehicle in Penang recently and not only was the vehicle held together with duct tape (not joking) and a mighty crack down the centre of the windshield, but the local agent charged us the security deposit as a sale rather than an authorisation which is how reputable rental companies do things. The security deposit was… Read more

Do not use this company, they have a history of not paying up when required. actually half – we have photos), and ignored all attempts to contact them when we tried to return the van a day early (no refund requested).
When we returned the van, we were treated rudely, falsely accused of causing damage (marks that wipe off), and pressured to sign a blank form “for insurance.” The agent even threatened to call the police.
The van had numerous scratches when we picked it up – all documented with photos. We’ve since learned this kind of treatment is common, especially toward Greek-Australians and Greek-Americans.

pounds/day. On collection was informed it was 16 pounds/day. No exceptions. Told the damage report would be emailed, so I could compare it and notify any extra damage. The report was not received until after the vehicle was returned. The extra fee was queried again to be told it was VAT, which it clearly wasn't. Unacceptable. Vehicle was generally in good condition. Customer service at checkin was terrible, with only one staff member when we arrived with several people lined up. To be fair another did arrive as we were leaving.
Follow-up · Not much we could do. I'm pretty sure I emailed them but got no response. A printed damage report given out at time of booking would alleviate these type of complaints. As regards to price difference they couldn't care less and tried to explain it as VAT which was nonsense

Green Motion offers a truly unique customer experience if you enjoy doing everything yourself…. I won’t be using them again.
I honestly don't know how this company is allowed to operate in Australia with our consumer protection laws. It is a textbook definition of a "bait and switch" scam. I have comprehensive domestic travel insurance AND platinum credit card insurance that specifically covers rental car excess. I had the policy documents printed out and ready. However, the excess is so high as to be above all those limits. In addition, the staff member told me that the excess only covers the body, not glass, wheels, undercarriage, etc.
They make the deposit sound terrifying (implying you'll never get it back for a tiny scratch), basically bullying you into buying their "Premium Peace of Mind" package. This cost an extra $65 per day—more than the daily rental rate of the car itself!
They deliberately tweak their terms to nullify any external insurance you have so they can force you into theirs. By the time I walked out, I had paid double what I would have paid with a reputable company like Hertz or Avis.
Extremely poor experience we had with both Car Jet and Green Motion during our recent booking. unexpected and unreasonable. The General Conditions of Green Motion do not specify that an issue date must appear on the driver’s licence. They do, however, clearly state that Australian driver’s licences are accepted. Likewise, the booking confirmation and email reminders only stated that we needed to bring our original driver’s licence and the rental receipt. Again, there was no mention whatsoever of an issue date requirement. We made our booking months in advance, so this lack of clear information is extremely disappointing. The information provided which we relayed on, we now find incomplete and misleading. However, as a company that lists Australia as an accepted licence authority, Green Motion should be aware that the New South Wales Driver’s Licence is a valid, professional, and internationally recognised document. Because of this unexpected rejection, we were left without transport and forced to make urgent alternative arrangements to avoid missing our itinerary. Sixt had no available 7-seater vans, and we ultimately had to book two vehicles with Enterprise at a significantly higher cost. Notably, neither of these companies had any issue accepting our Australian licences. This situation caused unnecessary stress, financial loss, and disruption to our trip. We have shared our experience with colleagues, friends, and community members, all of whom were shocked by this unreasonable policy. No formal apology from both Car Jet and Green Motion. No Reimbursement of our car rental cost due to your company’s unclear and misleading rental requirements. No Reimbursement of the car insurance we paid.
This review is a thousand words, but it may save you a thousand pounds by reading it. additional £256. PART ONE On arrival at Manchester Airport from New Zealand, having travelled around 30 hours, I caught the Green Motion shuttle bus from the terminal to their office located offsite in a business park. Having arrived with six others and with other customers already waiting, it took an hour and a half before I was in a car and on the road. Not ideal after such a long trip feeling jaded and just wanting to get to my destination, which was Birmingham. My assumption was that my car hire and insurance were pre-paid, but when I was served by Ritz after waiting almost an hour, I was told I didn’t have insurance (or any worth having as I booked through CarJet), and therefore should take out the Green Motion insurance. I was then presented with three options – £650, £800 or £1000, each with varying amounts of excess. I was annoyed that I had wasted the £256 on CarJet’s insurance and being urged to spend more for peace of mind. I was told the £650 option wasn’t worth it as there was still a large excess to pay, and I may not even get my money back if the offending party didn’t play ball, so I unwillingly chose the £800 option. Then I was told that for another £200 I could be relieved of any stress of damage as this covered everything, even those annoying dents to your car door made by other drivers in a car park – we don’t want any of those now, do we? My indecision at this point was increased through tiredness and just wanting to get on the road and home to see my mum after seven long years away. I was also asked what my occupation was, which on reflection was probably used to profile me. If I said I was a lawyer, I’m sure the sales tactics would have eased up! The overuse of my name and the friendly ‘I’m doing you a favour approach’, also led me into accepting a deal I live to regret. Sensing I wanted an easy way out, I was then told a deal could be done for £900 for the premium cover and a ‘really nice car’, so that was me suckered in! The really nice car turned out to be a Peugeot 208, which in my mind is not similar to a Hyundai Kona at all. The response was that CarJet put any old photo up on their website that didn’t necessarily represent what you were paying for. Well, poor old CarJet were really getting thrown under the bus today! I insisted that this was not acceptable and there was a reason I needed an SUV. After more wasted time searching for a similar vehicle, I ended up with a Peugeot 2008, however this needed to be retrieved from the depths of the car lot, then washed and valeted. It was also overdue a service by 1,800 miles. Eventually, I got on the road a bit frazzled but happy to be heading south when my sister called. Having told her of my car hire ordeal, it was only then that I realised how much money I had spent on my car insurance. I had spent over double my annual car insurance in New Zealand (for my own fairly new Mercedes) on the hire car I had for 20 days! Converting everything back to New Zealand dollars was a bit of a reality check for me. I felt sick. On reflection, I should have listened to my gut telling me as soon as I entered the Green Motion office that this wasn’t the usual car hire service I was used to through Avis, Budget or Europcar. The sales tactics were obvious: • The prolonged wait makes you want to get the deal done and get the hell out of there • The friendly overuse of your name • The discounting of the highest insurance rate just for you • The recording of your occupation • The promise of a nice car and then reminding you that you’ve had a significant upgrade even though it’s similar to the car you originally booked • The undermining of CarJet PART TWO As it happens, I hated having a manual car as it irritated my tennis elbow, so I tried to contact Green Motion to see if I could swap it. I looked for the local office in Birmingham and tried calling them for two days, only to have the call diverted to Leicester each time. Okay, so maybe they were busy, so I drove to find their depot in the city – it no longer existed! I then found a number for Green Motion at Birmingham Airport. This time my call was answered and I was told the city office had closed over two years ago. They also told me that Green Motion operate as a franchise with most branches run independently of each other, so if I wanted to swap my car, I would have to go back to Manchester. This is an important thing to know if you are travelling around the country that there is no nationwide support. I tried to call the Manchester Airport office but for every option (press 1 for…, press 2 for…), there is another voice recording directing you to an email address. So, reluctantly, I emailed and guess what, the email bounced back with ‘this email address is no longer in use’! I ended up selecting option 7 from the Green Motion menu as this was to report any accidents – surely I would get to speak to someone now – well kind of, if you’re happy with an answerphone! I decided it was time to call it quits. I had wasted the first three to four days of my precious holiday becoming more and more frustrated with Green Motion. I learnt a hard lesson in hiring a car through Green Motion. I hope by reading this review, you are saved from the same experience.

identifies that if I dispute this I need to go through their complaint resolution process or acceyet another rip off and tort they provide. As far as I can tell Green Motion UK have one vehicle and you get to use it if you are unlucky. The company is an absolute joke. As a regular traveller I have screwed up at least £50000 pounds of potential rentals, will never use them for my future business and will even try to save my competitors from their usefulness. Do yourself a favour if renting a car - choose the most expensive company advertising at the time, upgrade to their most expensive supercar and don’t fill up with petrol before returning it. It will still be cheaper, you’ll get a car in a timely manner and the service will win hands down. F…. y… Green Motion.
Where does one start with this company? Sadly we did not read the negative reviews about this company before we hired a vehicle from Edinburgh Airport in July 2025. service is wildly out. The hut that serves as their office is off airport, and has no toilet facilities [relevant particularly if one faces a long wait to get served]. The staff were not helpful. Proving one has held a valid licence for 2 years is almost impossible. They demand GBP 1500 deposit for insurance. As an older driver, they denied vehicle hire to me because of my age, without any prior warning. Other companies do not have age restrictions if one has a full valid national licence. Luckily my wife was able to drive. While waiting for service, the company refused to honour another booking, because the hirer was a “sports professional”. He had to go elsewhere with his group of friends. But the MAIN COMPLAINT about Greenmotion is their overcharging and unresponsiveness to customers. A requirement for repairs to the vehicle was to contact the company first. Our vehicle sustained a puncture from a nail or sharp metal object while on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The company failed to answer the nominated telephone number, on numerous occasions that afternoon, and never responded to messages left, so we were forced to order a temporary puncture repair GBP 36 at Portree instead of replacing the tyre at a cost of about GBP 160. We were only saved from complete disaster by the helpful staff at Morrisons of Portree. On returning the car after our tour, we were charged an additional GBP 331.68 not only to replace the tyre GBP 199.48, but also charged a “minor damage service fee” GBP 29.17 and GBP 81 for “loss of use”. Had the company answered the phone and authorised the new tyre the cost would have been much less than GBP 331.68 that we were was charged. I have rented vehicles domestically and internationally for 40+ years. I will never again engage with this company or its associates.

Green Motion car rental Picked up the car on 4/8 i Podgorica, Montenegro After driving for an hour, I received a message that the smart key's battery was dead. who didn't speak a word of English and finally understood that the key's battery needed to be replaced. After another two hours of waiting, he returned with a battery, and we got the car running again. We continued our journey to our hotel. The next morning, the same problem. After a long WhatsApp chat with Green Motion's service department, no one came back after a full day of waiting to replace the battery, even though I had already indicated that the battery wasn't the problem, but the key itself, and that they would bring a spare key, but they refused. No one came back until the end of the day to replace the battery, but now they realized that this didn't solve the problem; the key was indeed broken. After a very lengthy discussion via WhatsApp (they refused to answer the phone), it was decided that someone would bring the spare key the next day. Meanwhile, we had been blocked for three days and had to use local taxis to get anywhere. After receiving the new key, the problem was solved, and we could continue our trip the following days. When we returned the car to the airport on August 14th, we had a big surprise. First, they claimed I had lost the key, and then they claimed I had broken it. They wanted me to sign a document stating that I was responsible for the damage. After all the worries we had experienced, and because the key was already a problem upon departure, I refused to sign this document. I can tell you that these people tried to intimidate me in a very aggressive and brutal manner. A few hours later, I received the following email:
Hello, Colleagues from the airport informed me that you were charged €500 for off-road and €641 for the key and delivery of the key. Kind regards A few days later, I discovered that €1,141 had indeed been deducted from my credit card, out of the €1,400 blocked guarantee. We have no idea what the €500 off-road charge entailed. Our conclusion is that this company is a scammer, deliberately getting customers into trouble and then profiting from them. BE WARNED.

charged me £78. I travel and have hired cars in the UK and has never been a problem before.
I would have walked out as I was getting annoyed and I was only getting a hire car so I could take my sister around to places that she couldn’t get to on a bus tour. He kept mucking about and saying he’ll do us a good deal for us, which was more a good deal for him. He probably was trying to get employee of the month.
Now they are charging a £68 (AUD$135 for a piece of paper that they scan and email to you) admin fee for a PCN. It is a hybrid car!! Never mentioned anything about omission zones and the guy knew the areas where we were going. He said it was going to snow where we were going. Don’t know what weather app he was looking at, as ours said it was going to be clear.
So the original booking was for just under £90 (AUS$180) ended up costing £243.65 (AUS$485) and that’s with the free “upgraded” to a smaller car!! And now an extra £68 (AUS$136) for admin fee. So that’s an extra £224 (AUS$500) for 2 days hire!!!
The fine is apparently getting sent to my home address and hopefully be only £30 to pay for. And still waiting for the “fine”. Cant get over that a hybrid car is charged for emissions!!

expecting to find Green Motion alongside the other rental companies. However, Green Motion was nowhere to be found. I asked numerous staff members from various rental companies, airport personnel, and parking attendants—none of whom knew where Green Motion was located.
After driving around and asking dozens of people for help, I had to leave my children with our luggage at the check-in area while I continued searching. Eventually, I encountered two helpful young men from another rental company who made several calls on my behalf. Despite trying both the Montenegro and Croatia contact numbers for Green Motion, we were unable to reach anyone.
Finally, one of their contacts mentioned that Green Motion’s drop-off point might be at a car wash a few kilometers before the airport. This turned out to be correct, but the location was poorly marked and difficult to find. Finally, after 1 hour and 45 minutes of searching, I managed to drop off the car and barely made it to my flight. No paperwork was done or checking at the drop off point by the staff. I might actually have given the key to a car wash and not Green Motion :-0
At no point during the rental process was I informed of this unusual drop-off location. No instructions, signage, or warnings were provided, which is unacceptable for an international rental service. I was genuinely concerned I would have to involve the police just to return the vehicle.
This experience was extremely stressful and disappointing. I would like to understand why proper drop-off instructions were not provided and what Green Motion intends to do to address this serious lapse in customer service.
Rude, threatening, condescending, very unfriendly! GreenMotion imposed new contract upon our arrival. Took an hour to/from get from airport. Threatened us with GBP1500+ for absolutely ZERO damage. Green Motion is a sub-standard, unethical rental car Co! We rented a car for 2 days out of Zurich with no issues….so we thought. didn’t do it. If we scratched the bumper into anything, we would have heard or felt it. They sent all the alleged “before & after” pics. Which I fully question the accuracy. Then I remembered, upon checkout, their hard sell of buying their additional insurance for another $80 (US) a day which we declined. They even showed a diagram with a happy, smiling face if you get their insurance down to the red, angry face if you decline. Well that all came true. Good thing we were able to successfully make a claim on our credit card insurance. It should really be noted as a Fraud vs. an Insurance claim. A few other cautions: We had to walk past all the normal rental car Cos at the airport to then rely on WhatsAp, which we barely use, with confusing instructions of a bus area to go and wait for the Green Motion shuttle van to pick us up. Was supposed to be every ½ hour…we waited nearly an hour. The van is pulling a trailer which serves as a pinball machine for loose luggage getting thrashed all about. And back to the car. When looking at the repair invoice, and who knows if it was even repaired, the super basic car we rented was a 2017 model. Every car I’ve ever rented elsewhere is no more than 2 years old. Lastly, we get another $77 charge on our card for who knows what?? That’s been disputed. What a joke
