Incredibly poor pet insurance for the price. The price is ~30% higher than comparable plans from other providers, but doesn’t include any additional benefits or service. I’m quite disappointed in the offering. Show details

My 6th German Shepherd Solomon developed Gastric-Dilation Volvulus (GDV) or 'twisted stomach' for us non-medical folk. The condition is overrepresented in this breed and I have lost 2 Shephard's previously to the condition. On the day following our arrival I noted Solomon seemed lethargic in the afternoon after being very normal late morning and I checked his gums for sign of snake bite and then his stomach for potential GDV, His stomach was bloated and I could feel the twist. We rushed him to the ARH Emergency Vet Hospital in Wollongong and they triaged Solomon on arrival and prepared him for surgery. The staff who were brilliant assisted with contacting Guide Dogs and within minutes, we had pre-approval for the treatment. This rapid outcome was the best news along with the ARH surgeons quick assessment and I left the hospital with the confidence that I didn't need to worry about the cost or the level of treatment Solomin would receive. Solomon's had 4 days in intensive care and pulled through and is now recovering at home on the Gold Coast. He was discharged from the hospital in a very seamless process and all I needed to do was cover the gap.
I changed to Guide Dogs after a rejected claim from another insurer when Solomon was 7 months old and have been with Guide Dogs ever since (he'll be 8 in June) for multiple pets and this isn't my first claim with Guide Dogs.
If you are shopping around for an insurance option for your pet, I'm more than happy to recommend Guide Dogs.
I'm very happy with this insurance, they have been fantastic. The claims are reviewed so fast and money returned pretty much within couple days. patient, polite , knowledgeable and efficient. In general I’m so glad that I have Guide dogs for my insurer. I have never had to do anything special during or after consults and the out of pocket amounts are minimal or nothing. Included when Buffalo had a seizure. The claims are done by the staff at the vet for me. the money I get comes back in a few days. I’ve been with them for two years. I wish I was insured when Buff had an accident which cost me $12,000. I joined Guide Dogs Insurance immediately after that. Highly Recommended Good value for my money and peace of mind.
Choosing the right pet insurer as once you do, previous diagnoses are not recognised by many other agents – Claims are easily made by uploading pdf's of proof through their app. Recognition of the application is made strait away. This policy is terrible value. I have had the policy for 5 years and for four of them I have had an annual increase of 22-27%. The reason given is the age of the dog and potential conditions of the breed. The issue is they knew the dog was going to age and its breed when I got the policy. Stay away – Stay away. Worst pet insurance ever. The price goes up 40% per year. They say that anything is a pre condition and you have to make a complaint to have reviewed. They have even created a diagnosis for my dog, when I asked to check the vet notes, they changed their mind. Look for another pet insurance. Show details

36% premium increase in one year! – I’ve been with guides dogs insurance for almost 7 years, I understand each year premiums need to increase but 36% in a year is just wrong. nothing they can do about it. They suggested lowering my plan in order to reduce my premiums, I challenge them around how this benefits me and my animals and they were unable to advise. Further when I advised that I would leave and go to another insurer they made false comments about my animals medical history stating that one of my animals had pre existing conditions including hip issues and arthritis, I should not my animals medical history does not state this. The person representing the insurer then said I wouldn’t be covered for cancer as my dog had cancer removed. Again I had to correct them and tell them that my dog has never had cancer. I feel this was a scare tactic and given their position of power it wasn’t fair or right.
I did advise them that I made a quote for my existing policies with them as if I was a new customer. I advised them that all the detailed matched my existing policies and to my surprise the premiums were 50% less than what I pay now. The representative agreed that this would be the case as the longer you have a policy with them the more riskier you are, they advised that new policy members are perceived as less risk and hence the difference in cost.
This matter is still unresolved, I will be cancelling all polices and making an official complaint to AFCA with all my evidence.
This is price gouging, unprofessional and inappropriate.

Love to charge you even after policy has been cancelled – Be aware. Cancelled policy with months notice, confirmed by email that 28th would be last day and no funds will be withdrawn after that. dont waste your money – getting the insurance policy was very easy, getting a claim approved, very difficult. after they took payment, they want a vet history on a 12 week old puppy and won't approve a claim without. there is better policies out there Show details

Don't waste your time – I have had 2 of my dogs insured with them for over 3 years. one is an ex breeding dog from guide dogs and the other is a retired guide dog. When i ran into financial difficulty i reached out to them as they suggested and was told that I needed to over $800 up front or the policies would be cancelled. Amazing service provided by this insurance compsany – I have had my policies for 5 years and during this time I have had to make 5 claims on one policy and 3 on the other I have made the claims online either by myself or the vat practice has done it on my behalf. Very happy customer! – We have a 3-year-old French Bulldog and pay for comprehensive care. In the short time we've had him we've had to make several claims (he has allergies, needed BOAS surgery, hurt his dew claw, etc) and each time Guide Dogs Pet Insurance has come through!
