After booking the reservation, I call Hertz to inquire about if there would be an issue if we were late in picking up the car. The agent (I did not get her name) was very helpful and rebooked the reservation for a later pickup time. From 3pm to 3:30 pm. and Drop-off time from 9am to 10am. New confirmation #K7772084162. to the Hertz Tampa airport location around 3:45-4pm to pick up a Full-size SUV, GMC Yukon. We get handed keys to a Nissan.
We were told that they didn't have any GMC Yukon's available, I asked that they provide us with something more closely similar to a Yukon than the Nissan they tried to give us. The agent was able to find a Yukon and stated that it had high mileage (60,000). He handed us the key and said I had to sign a $200.00 hold.
On March 8th @10am sharp, we attempted to return the car to Royal Palm Beach-Southern Blvd HLE. We were told they did not accept car there they gave us the address and directions to drop it off at the West Palm Beach Airport. I asked if there wouldn't be any issues returning the car there the agent said no, they do it all the time.
Now Hertz charge me additional $810.59.
I called and was informed it was because we returned the car to a different location than we were supposed to.
I called back and I was placed on hold for over an hour and no one came back on.
I completed a survey and asked to be contacted. No one has contacted me.

Defective truck – I rented a Fuso 3T Canter truck from Hertz Taren Point branch. I have rented the same type of truck from the same location on several previous occasions and never had a problem. The truck was defective. The gearbox was a 6 speed auto which would randomly choose the wrong gear, eg 6th gear at 20kmh almost stalling. Or stay in 3rd or 4th with… Read more
the engine revving it’s guts out then eventually go to 5th. Or suddenly change down a few gears. Spent 3 days being beeped at by other drivers wondering what I was doing.
The gearbox just had a mind of its own, like possessed.
The staff at the branch we’re no help, just tried to suggest it was something to do with how I was driving. I have been driving for 40 years and hold a HC licence. I also own a 7T Fuso truck.
I called Road Service and they did not turn up. Instead I had a call from the branch suggesting I was driving it wrong and shouldn’t use the gears. The gear shift was in D. I was not using the gears. It is supposed to look after itself.
I managed to get the truck back to the branch, but today had a call from the branch claiming there was nothing wrong with the truck.
Even though a call to Fuso technical had advised that it appeared the gearbox needed reprogramming.
I will never rent from Hertz again.
Absolute disgrace. I have been a Hertz Gold Club member for 20 years and have never experienced such shocking, disrespectful service until my recent visit to the Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta) branch.I booked and paid in advance, received my confirmation, and completed the online check-in link. Yet, when I arrived at the Gold desk, the customer… Read more
service officer casually told me there was a 'problem' with my booking and refused to explain what it was. Instead of helping, he forced me to stand at the counter and call Hertz Reservations myself. What followed was an incredibly frustrating game of pass-the-blame. Reservations told me to ask the counter staff; the counter staff told me to ask Reservations. When they finally spoke to each other on my phone, the desk agent still refused to help, handed me a useless number for 'Customer Care' that led to a dead end, telling me to email, and completely abandoned his post as a service agent.I was forced to walk away, go to Reddispot, who sorted me out immediately with a cheaper car and vastly superior service. To make matters worse, Hertz still hasn't refunded my prepaid booking, and a promised follow-up call from a manager never happened. I am still chasing my money via email.

Oh yes it HERTZ – Stay away from hertz. We were stranded in flood waters in Spain last night. Ended up having to abandon the car & walk through knee deep water to safety. When we contacted hertz for help all they were interested in was the car. They actually wanted us to go back to the car to get the paperwork& said we couldn’t get another car until we returned… Read more
first one. That’s the one floating down the A7. Yeah seriously. Offered absolutely no help at all. After many hours on the phone we got somewhere. Had to cancel the contract just to get a refund. Moments after the last call they actually called back to see if we had the keys. Appalling, disgusting service. No real concern for us at all. Never again.
he vehicle was hired and later extended. A $9-per-day damage waiver was charged. Your parents say they were not told that the waiver was a daily charge or that it would continue during an extension. They understood the insurance arrangements would cover the additional period. $9-per-day damage waiver was ultimately deducted from the $100 bond. The… Read more
explanation provided afterwards did not, in your view, clearly explain the daily charge. The supplied rental documents appeared to be unsigned. The windscreen caused significantly reduced visibility in sunlight and rain, which raised a safety concern. You contacted Hertz Customer Care and are seeking clarification.
Hertz Welshpool. The vehicle itself was adequate. However when returning it the fuel gauge was BARELY off the mark of being a full tank. I figured it would be less than $5-10 to fill up even with their inflated prices. They proceeded to charge for an ENTIRE tank over $76! I wasn’t fussed about the small fuel fee to top up but to charge for the other 98% of the tank is robbery.

Hertz Barcelona Saints to Seville - Dec 2025 - 5 day hire - We booked this vehicle using the Hertz website about six month prior. booking is made as Hertz cannot link that to your account. The process was easy to follow with extras varying depending on which country you are booking in. I logged in several times to compare tariff rates on hire and they changed regularly. We stuck the original quote however you can save if pay upfront. When we made inquires with Hertz Australia about our bookings prior to leaving they informed us that a bond is normal and would be refunded. We opted for pay upon pickup that incurred additional surcharge but provided flexibility that we needed. We opted for the Hertz Super Cover Insurance after looking at the options and considered what our Credit card insurance / travel insurance would cover with the hassle etc to make any claims if they arise and the reviews for people who have gone down that route. We were cautious after reading the reviews, scams and tricks reported by Hertz customers that played out like a Seinfeld episode but we did not experience these. The Barcelona Hertz office is clearly visible from the Saints train station (vehicle drop off end). Prior to collecting the vehicle We made a video and recorded any existing damage external/internal and underneath to the vehicle. We did not receive an existing damage report from Hertz Saints and was reassured that with Super Cover it was not required however I expected an email with these details as per previous Hertz rentals that never arrived. Petrol/Gas was precharged that turned out to be okay for us as it was one less thing to worry about. Also payment was required to use a Credit card in the name of the driver. The onboarding process was quick as our details had been pre-populated in the online booking. Helpful staff provided a map and directions to collect the vehicle that was located in an adjacent street carpark, level -5. We had an International drivers licence but only needed to show Australian drivers licence. Similar experience in Seville Airport for return. Follow the rental return signs through the ground level carpark, with Hertz return area visible as soon as you go through the first carpark. Again record a video of the vehicle. The staff were also friendly and I received an emailed receipt shortly after dropping off the vehicle. No additional charges or surprises for cleaning, damage etc. Do some research on driving in Spain including entering restricted areas with your local accommodation before entering the area on Google Maps. We had a positive experience on both ends with Hertz Spain. I'd recommend going with the Super Cover Insurance offered by Hertz as it resolves any issues upfront and peace of mind. From our positive experience we would use Hertz Barcelona Saints again.
Decided to go through Hertz while in Canberra for our holiday rental and was not disappointed. Went with the Prestige full size suv, which to my surprise, was a brand new Landrover Defender 110. ran like an ol chaff cutter, the truck was all over the road, and not changing gears when you went up hills or did turns. Or take off from traffic lights....warning lights kept coming on to say it needs servicing... My biggest gripe is obviously HERTZ in GENERAL DO NOT TAKE CASH ..... I ARGUED WITH THEM THAT EVERYONE NOW HAS TO TAKE CASH (BUT APPARENTLY HERTZ ARE SPECIAL N CAN DO AS THEY PLEASE ..... In future clean your trucks before next person takes it and get THEM SERVICED we want what we pay for not what you are too lousy to do....Should be MANDATORY THEY ARE SERVICED WHEN STATED, EVEN IF THE K'S AREN'T DONE.... OUR SAFETY should be YOUR PRIORTY... Have now just discovered on paying tolls they do that, Have told them I will pay it to avoid HERTZ FEES that will NO DOUBT be ADDED. Waiting to here back from them.... will update when resolved

off, if the car was full of fuel and no damage. It was full of fuel and no damage. They lied then directed me to their customer service who just dismissed it. It's a scam. They and booking.com know what they are doing preying on those who don't understand the terminology and jargon. Don't use either
Follow-up · I do have a follow up after contacting Hertz. They sent condescending letters on how I did not undertsand the Car Hiring Process. They offered a 50% reduction on the Insurance cover only. Which meant I was still out of pocket $1200 odd AUD. Be very careful, don't sign anything and don't be afraid to walk away..You won't get ripped off that way
Hertz UK charged over $1200 extra for an 'upgrade' when our flight was delayed by 6 hours. The $1000 deposit we had already paid would have been forfeited if we declined the 'upgrade'. Disgraceful
Follow-up · Can’t remember what we originally booked but it was something small and adequate for our needs. The upgrade was not worth what we had to pay in my opinion- but that’s not the point anyway, it’s how it all went down that was the issue. We did not get the car we had chosen

damage waiver. When I paid, I was charged $170. I rang Hertz immediately explained my situation, operater told me they were not sure why it happened and advised to email customerservicesau@dollar.com. I received a reply stating that I was charged in USD. I requested a review because I am based in Australia, live in Australia and used an Australian card. I have heard nothing back to this date. To make things worse, they charged me an extra $62 on the day of car pickup as a MDW. My understanding was that the maximum damage waiver was included in the price I paid.
Other things that went wrong are too numerous to list: an international charge fee, Different car received than the one booked, car I got had much smaller boot size that didn't even fit one checked luggage properly, the petrol tank was not full (about 6 liters less than full), and I was misleaded saying car was a plug-in hybrid when it turned out to be a regular hybrid.
If anyone reading this is planning to file a lawsuit against Hertz, include me. I have recorded all proof.
Hertz is a company from hell, with no customer service, stay away from them
Follow-up · - Fuel wasn't full, and the car given as an alternative to the Toyota Kluger wasn't great. - Pickup process was smooth. - App was easy to book but misleading in terms of price.

Very disappointing experience with Hertz Darwin As a regular Hertz customer, this experience was a real let down. another vehicle, we were initially told that we could not be given another 4WD/2WD because those vehicles were allocated to another group. We were told that our only option was to cancel our booking and rebook, which would have left us approximately $200 out of pocket. We explained that as the situation was completely outside our control, we should not be financially disadvantaged because of an issue on Hertz's side. The staff member eventually offered to change our booking to a lower vehicle category while keeping the booking at the same price. While I appreciate that a solution was eventually offered, the whole situation was extremely frustrating and disappointing, particularly as a regular Hertz customer. We should not have been put in a position where we were expected to either accept an unsuitable/unserviced vehicle or pay an additional $200 to resolve an issue that was not our fault. To make matters even worse, two days after returning the vehicle, I received an email titled "Overdue Rental Reminder", despite having already returned the car and personally handed over the keys to a staff member. This added another unnecessary concern and further highlighted the lack of communication and organisation. Overall, a very disappointing experience from a company I have regularly used. I would expect much better communication, vehicle preparation and customer service from Hertz.
Washington Union Station. Abysmal service. Vehicle was downgraded without change of price. My wife actually wasn't put on as an additional driver - good thing we phoned back during the trip. And customer service later not helping at all. Never again. Show details
Zurich: Lady at counter doing nothing for nearly 10 minutes before serving me. Fun in 38 degree heat! Argued with me for at least 5 minutes then gave me what I asked for many times, very politely. the wheels. These 'slight scratches' were probably due to all the road works throughout all of Europe!!!! I did no damage to the vehicle. I can buy 4 original Citroen wheel covers here in Australia, fly return to Zurich, put them on myself as they are clip on and it would still be cheaper that what they say I owe. I have all insurances but this is just a SCAM by Hertz, which unfortunately I now know is common. While I appreciate that there can be language issues - wheel cover to wheel and 'slight scratch' to dent, in insurance are vastly different things. Not the car I ordered/booked months before - much larger which for a 69 years old woman travelling solo was interesting, but I am also someone who drives on the 'other' side of the road regularly without incident. I asked about the tolls and was given incorrect information. When I wrote to Hertz their response was a joke, ambiguous and basically they don't care. My recommendation to anyone hiring a vehicle is make sure you take a video of the whole vehicle including the wheels! Since COVID customer care seems to be non-existent with too many companies.

Where do I start. I checked in online before arriving. As I lined up to get my keys the man in front of me checked in (after I had) asked for an upgrade, and was given the car I had booked. after him. When asking for my surname (which is long and foreign) I received a scoff a from the man on counter along with the words “what the fk is that” whilst taking my license from my hand to look at the surname. He then told me I should’ve checked 3 minutes earlier than the guy ahead of me and I still could’ve gotten the car I booked, was completely unapologetic, and offered me a $50 fuel discount after I raised the fact that I had checked in earlier. When I told him $50 covers nowhere near the amount a hybrid would have saved (again, the only reason I booked hertz) he laughed and said “you only have the car for 2 days, how far can you even go” whilst rolling his eyes. I sat down to call my husband and ask if he wanted to cancel or just get another car and was told “good news, another hybrids come in” and was told I just have to sit and wait for it to be cleaned. 5-10mins later I was told a hybrid had in fact NOT come in and now I have no choice but to accept their petrol car. As id already been waiting so long, I caved and accepted the XTrail. After getting into the car and turning on the aircon, the car smelt so strongly of marijuana or cigarettes that I had a headache by the time I got home, there were still belongings from the person before me on the car, like hair ties and a cigarette under the chair. I had discussed having the car from 3:30pm Friday to 3pm Sunday and was never told the office would be closed and I’d be asked to drive the car to the airport and pay extra for the one way drop off. I was also not told they had changed drop off time to 10am and sent a contract to me that I wasn’t asked to read or sign. I will be send through an email with all of the disgusting details of this service and will never use Hertz again. As well as warning everyone I know about them

I had a rental organised due to a car repair. The pick-up and drop-off were okay and efficient, but far from a warm customer experience; just down to business. Absolutely disgusting service at the Melbourne Airport Hertz site. I booked a car through the business page and clearly disclosed that I was 24 years old. I’ve never experienced such poor customer care. I won’t be using Hertz again — Budget or Avis offer far better service and better prices. Overall, a really disappointing and unprofessional experience at Hertz Melbourne Airport.
Every step of this rental process was more difficult than it should have been. finally did reach a representative, I was given incorrect information. I appreciated a ride was provided to and from the location but every step of the entire rental was quite the process when it should not have been. Called ahead to verify the price and was given false information from multiple sources and was charged significantly more in the end. When waiting for a pick up ride, was expecting a Hertz car to arrive so I waited 30 or so minutes past the scheduled pick up time looking for one. Finally an unmarked car was who picked me up, with no sticker, no sign, with someone who was not wearing any Hertz shirt or Hertz lanyard or any sign of employment. No vehicle make, model, or license plate was given to me so I was not told what to look for either. When dropping off the rental, was not instructed at all on how to do so, even after calling and asking on how to do so. Had to guess on how, and then was called multiple times afterward being told I had done it wrong even though no instructions were given at any point. Even when I had a scheduled pick up time, still had to wait 30-40 minutes at Hertz when I was only the second customer there and that was after already waiting 30 minutes to find the unmarked car to pick me up. Phone is hardly ever picked up and automated phone system difficult to navigate. Disappointing all together
The mention of Product Review brings change A visitor to Canberra dropped a hire car back to Hertz in Fyshwick on a Thursday and asked to rebook for a Sunday pick up. As we were loading our bags to go to Mitchell, the friendly Fyshwick attendant called out and informed us that they had a car from Mitchell on site and he might be able to sort it out to our satisfaction. He did. Did the mention of your site prompt an improvement in service?
