My first one broke roughly 12 months after purchasing, I thought I did something wrong so I gave it another go, I was careful on how to retract the second one I made sure the hose had no water pressure in it and even made sure I didn't just let it go in retraction this one lasted even less. Product not locking out – My Holman 20 m was working fine. Approx 12 months old. Now the hose has just stopped locking out..? Still retracting fine. Anyone know how to try and fix this..? Show details ·  1

good value for the cost – currently have 2 holman hose reels for large garden, the 3rd reel i have is a different brand which has failed twice and was twice the price of the holman reel, i have now replaced the failed reel with another holman reel because i have been very happy with the 2 previous purchases Show reply

Holman 20mt Self winding garden hose – Works a treat, was one of only two that the bracket was connected to the middle of the spool. Many others in the market have the bracket positioned at the bottom of the unit causing strain on the bracket. Whilst it is made out of plastic, rather than steel as many items are these days. Bunnings they will help if required. I had previously tried another brand and the changeover was so easy. Works easy and would buy again if another unit was required.

Simply terrible – No wonder it's discontinued, it's a horrible product, retracting broke in less than 6 months, hose kinks all the time. And they are still advertising on TV. They should offer all these people who like me had a terrible experience with a replacement product. Show details

Kinking hose – The retractable reel itself works well, but the hose kinks constantly from the very first use . I should have contacted Holeman then but kept thinking it would improve with use.

Holman 20m retractable hoses – I have bought 4 off 20m Holman retractable hoses 2 - 3 years ago from Bunnings, one failed internally and no longer retracted and another made a horrible clunking noise and would not hold once retraced. I am disappointed with these units and would not buy another one

Broken within 20 mins – We bought it a couple of months ago. I have only just installed it. So I don’t have the receipt available. But we used it once and now will not retract. It’s just a disgusting product and apparently everyone else thinks the same. Show details

Cheap product – Terrible, no UV resistance and generally doesn't retract properly. You will be replacing it in less than 18 months. I purchased 3, never again. Show details

Rubbish – Failed in thee first 3 months of use. Was installed undercover and used only occasionally. Won't retract at all. Unfortunately I can't find my receipt, but won't be purchasing another one of these... Show details

Internal hose connector failed – The plastic internal hose connector failed and is broken. It is not possible to fix this so the whole unit goes into the rubbish. Did of course salvage the hose. Not happy but the unit is three years old and out of warranty Show details

Retraction failed after 2nd use – Bought, installed, used twice and the retraction mechanism has failed. It locks and won't retract. Will return for a refund and spend that bit more in a quality brand. Terrible product. Show details

NOT RECOMMENDED – I would not class this as a "retractable" hose reel at all when the last 3 metres of hose is impossible to get back in the holder. I have to fight with it everyday! And it's the first hose I've had that's VERY noisy when the water runs through it! HATE IT SO MUCH!!! Show details

Second Failed Holman Product – Hose no longer locks into place. Only four years old and used only once a week on average. Also made the mistake of purchasing a Holman weather station which also failed after 2 years. I will never purchase another Holman product again. Holman products are of a very poor quality and I suggest that to save money in the long run, spend more on say Gardena or Hoselink brands. Show details

Holman hose tell which stopped rewinding – This is the second and last Holman hose reel we will ever buy. The spring has stopped working and the product is not that old. Less than two years and it isn’t used much and never fully extended. I will lock for the docket and update this review with the exact purchase date shortly.  Show details

Defective brake – I have a hose reel and the brake has stopped working on mine too. Looking at this thread this seems to be a common problem which Holman are aware of. The goods are not of acceptable quality if there is a known defect and people should be able to seek a refund through the manufacturer regardless of warranty period Show details

Holman hoses - the king of Kink – Nothing kinks as easily as a Holman hose. I made the mistake of buying three of them and my blood pressure and swear rate went through the roof. Do yourself a favour and pay a little extra for a decent quality hose.

Poor design negative reviews – I have to use all my strength to pull the hose out of the unit. The hose kinks constantly reduced water pressure. I have had the 20 MTR Holman retractable for 3 months. Very poor product.

Bad Hose Reels – Brand new two Reels from Bunnings. One is okay the second is too difficult to retract - the tension is too strong! Both reels have cheap hose and easily knots up. Not happy.

Terrible – We purchased this to keep hoses tidy. That is all it does. Most times it retracts ok, but sometimes not. The WORST aspect of this is that the water pressure drops by half when using it. Connecting another hose and hey presto, it goes back to normal pressure. Waste. Of. Money. Show details

Terrible water pressure – Purchased from my local Bunnings 14/11/20. The water pressure when hose fully extended to the stop mark is terrible. Hooked up the old hose which is same length and diameter, and pressure was far better. The hose on the inside of unit must be squeezed or kincked from factory. Not good enough. Update 28/6/21 unit no longer retracts. In the bin it goes, but now have four useless holes in my wall. Thanks Holman.  Show details

Useless. Bunnings Should Destock this Supplier – Rubbish product. Does not retract after only 2 years of use. Holman do not carry parts and cannot help, only suggested buying a new unit. What a waste of time and money. Show details

Not as advertised – It has only 18.5m of useable hose not the 20m advertised. It does not rotate 180deg, only about 150deg which means that it won't fold flat to a wall (so it looks untidy). This could be fixed with a simple factory modification. I wonder if the wrong attachment bracket has been included in my package. Both of the above are unknown until the box is opened. Show details

Not too bad, but the flow rate is constrained – I've bought this one a year ago in a big green shed and here is what I've learned - the flow rate is limited by the sharp bend of the feeding hose attached to the main unit, this is a mistake in design I guess. 20% weaker to my normal 30m hose attached to the same tap. - the hose itself doesn't feel premium, but it doesn't kink as much. but of course if you keep it laying around and move up and down it eventually will - it retracts ok even after a year of usage even though it's slightly less powerful than at the beginning. I will keep an eye on it. - it locks every single time, never missed a beat. - my main unit is in the shade so I can't comment on the plastics and their durability on the direct sun, but it look as new - I've attached it to the wall (masonry screws) and it holds great. simple install.

so 3 stars from me. Limited flow rate and the reel reliability lets it down. We will see in one years time.
