So far, So good – I purchased my Homemaker Microwave from Kmart in Innaloo for $119 in late 2014. I was looking for a microwave that had a stainless steel inside because my 20 year old Sharp Carousel microwave had a painted white steel interior that chipped and flaked from collisions with dinner plates over the years. My microwave worked well for the first week… Read more
then it started to become noisy. When I used the convention oven setting it took three times longer then it should to bake a cake. I returned it to Kmart Innaloo and asked them if they experienced any negative feedback from this product. They told me my microwave was the first return they had in their store so I decided to exchange it and see if I had better luck with the new one.
It's been over six months now and I am very happy with this product. The microwave works as it should and the convention oven setting bakes and roasts in the time it should. I like the feature that automatically turns of the interior light if the door is left open for several minutes.
The only bad thing I have found with this product is it does not bake even when I bake a large cake, pizza or pie on the convention setting. The side closest to the rear of the oven will slightly burn. To offset this shortcoming I turn what I am baking at half way through and it ends up cooking evenly.

Simple, cheap and does the job – Our expensive Microwave died after many years of faithful use so we decided to get a stainless model with a convection oven. This oven was on special for $99 normally $119 at our local K Mart so we grabbed it. We are not big users of a microwave using it mostly for heating up leftovers etc. Anyway we unpacked and noticed it came with the usual… Read more
plate etc and a handy grill stand as well as a quite simple but easy to follow instruction book. The display is small but after some use the settings are easy to follow. Make sure the book is nearby for a while and have your reading glasses on. It must be in a well vented area and as usual never use it whilst you are not nearby and it will be fine. We have cooked cakes in it, grilled fish, roasted chicken and used both the grill and convection oven separately as well as the oven and microwave combo together. All worked fine and it cooked evenly. Because the plate rotates during convection cooking it always seems to cook evenly unlike most conventional ovens. For some food I finished off with 10 minutes under the grill to get a nice crispy finish. As it is small it heats quickly so does not cost much to run when using the elements although they do crackle a bit as they come up to heat. The microwave is fine, no difference to other models. Overall nothing flash but does the job that we require. As for cleaning I noticed the stainless interior is easy to clean. I boil a jug of water, turn off the power point to the oven and let the water sit for 2 hours with the door shut and then wipe it out with a paper towel. Voila! Spotless even around the elements. I let it sit with the door ajar for an hour or so afterwards. Before I switch the power point on I check to make sure none of the paper towel wrapped around the elements and then switch on the convection oven for a few minutes for a final dry and that's it. It comes up perfect. I clean the outside with Windex. Years ago my neighbour bought a Panasonic Microwave/Convection Oven and it was cheap at $1000! Be happy with the meagre amount of money you spend on this and toss it when it breaks. Its sad but that's the way it is these days. Kmart are always excellent when it comes to warranty returns so cook like hell and make the most of it while it lasts as it cooks fine.
Not A Good Piece Of Equipment – I bought this convection microwave so I didn't have to keep using the big oven. It seemed to work well, except I was a bit concerned that I could feel hot air coming out from around the door whether I was using the convection or the microwave. Other than that, it seemed ok. Then one night I had my dinner in it heating on the convection cycle.… Read more
There was a loud bang & on looking into the oven I found the glass plate had cracked clean in two. It's a good thing it happened while the oven was shut & not on opening it. On looking at it, the plate said "for microwave only" (same as my old microwave plate). I checked the manual properly, at no time did it say to take the plate out - in fact nothing will rotate without it, & the picture for using the convection oven actually showed the glass plate still in there. My parents have a (more expensive brand) convection microwave & the glass plate stays in it.
I returned it to KMart who "assured" me that they had never had one returned.
Surprisingly good convection microwave for the $$$ – Bought this unit from Kmart Sep 2014. Not expecting much for $120 but pleasantly surprised. Wife has cooked muffins, cakes, pizza and potatoes using the convection & grilling functions. She is excellent in the kitchen with high standards and she is impressed with this so far except the pizza base wasn't quite as crispy as she would like. This unit… Read more · 1
has an element on the back wall (convection function) and an element on the top (grill function). The unit allows you to use each function (microwave, convection, grill) separately or in any combination you choose. It takes only about 5 mins to heat up to 220 deg C - this is fantastic - saves us from heating up our kitchen cooker (cast iron Kangaroo Homestead Cooker dual electric and wood fuel oven) oven which takes 45 mins to get to that temp.
The diameter of the glass tray inside is only 32 cm so you can't put a full tray of (~12) muffins or cup cakes inside so if she is doing a big cook and cooking multiple things (muffins, cakes, fruit buns) she might still use the main oven because you can cook more at one time. Its great for smaller, one-off jobs, when we wouldn't want to heat up the main kitchen oven. Outside the oven - top surface and left side gets very hot during convection cooking (inside 220 deg C) outside 65 deg C, suppose that's normal. Easy to use, so far so good. Four stars for now - will see how it goes over the warranty period. Will update this review if any issues arise.
UPDATE - DECEMBER 2015
This microwave is still going well - very happy.
UPDATE DECEMBER 2016
Ditto. No problems. Still happy.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2017
Why am I still writing reviews? No idea. Anyway. Oven still works fine but part of the panel that surrounds the front door window is starting to come off. Could just glue it back on again .
UPDATE JANUARY 2019
As per September 2017.....The upper part of the panel surrounding the window on the door did actually separate from the door and was hanging there for ages till I got around to glueing it back on. (I did use a bit of duct tape to hold it in place until the duct tape failed). Cosmetically the unit is now showing its age and perhaps build quality - but still works just fine. We could just go back and get another - Kmart sell something similar - but no need yet.

Larger size, Cooks fast – Kmart do a range of own brand microwaves and this is the larger one up from the smallest one. The baby of the series is only $48 but its way too small for a family - I don't think you could get anything larger than a side plate in to it. This one is much the same design but a comfortable large size. It works flawlessly and makes me realise there is no need for big brand names when home brand products are this good. Show details
Better Than Expected – I had very limited expectations of an appliance from Kmart but this turned out to be a good purchase. It is well made and does a surprisingly able job of cooking and reheating food. Frankly, I wonder how it can be even made for this price and yet the quality actually feels quite good! If it lasts a year, and I am sure it will, I will consider it superb value Show details
Excellent Value Microwave – This was a great purchase. Only $48 and its awesome! I can see no difference to the fancy big name microwaves other than the name sticker. It works absolutely perfectly and better than my old Sharp. Good menus that make sense, a good solid build level and fast cooking times. Its also excellent for heating up milk to make lattes. - just tales 1 minute. I recomend thos model. For the price, you cant lose Show details
Negative reviews
Simple, cheap and easy – Not a bad microwave for the price. Needs a bit longer to heat through but works fine. Good size for a small apartment although sometimes it is a little bit small to heat up larger items. It works well for reheating left overs and frozen meals. Simple and easy to use. Show details
Good microwave for the price – Hi , I was looking for a microwave to replace previous model which had stopped working after a few years. Purchased this microwave. Im happy with it so far. It does everything you would expect from a basic microwave. Maybe missing some fancy features, but most people probably just set time, set power level , etc . This works fine. Cheaper than most similar models Show details
works well – I must say of all the products I have tried and tested this would have to be the most easy basic piece of machinery I've ever used and had to maintain for the time I have been cooking, so easy I use it more than twice a day and worry it may explode from too often of use Show details

Clock not working – I purchased this microwave after reading the reviews as I only heat things up in it. The microwave itself seems to work well but the clock is gaining 2 hours everyday I will return and probably exchange it as I am worried there might be something wrong with the electricals Show details
This is a great product – The microwave preserves the food to a high standard, easy to navigate my way around the programming feature and easy to control. The food is evenly warmed and thawed to satisfaction. I maimly use it for defrosting meat and find that it does effectively Im pleased with this product and would highly recommend this microwave Show details
Simple and reliable, well built – I have come top really like this microwave. It is simple and solid and works very well. Its cooks evenly and doesn't make much in the way of noise. The body is quite solid for a Kmart no name special. It's easy to use and cleaning is just a wipe down from time to time. Good and simple machine Show details

Seems Good So Far – I am temporarily renting and just needed some very basic appliances for a few months. Hey! $48 for a microwave - sounds good! It it surprisingly well made and works really well. Perhaps a little slower than my regular one but it does a very thorough job. Reheating a plate of food is flawless. This is a Kmart house branded one so I hope all the safety precautions are correctly in place. It works well and is well made for the price. Show details
Very Happy – We have had this oven for a few months now and we are very happy with it. It is simple to use and it has been very reliable. It cooks very well and is a lot more economical than using the regular oven! We would recommend this oven to anyone who wants a reliable and economical convection oven. Show details
Cheap And Good – I dont need fancy brand names so I bought this Kmart microwave because it looked good and was so cheap - like half the price of the big name ones. Well, its good! It does everything I need. It cooks defrosts and reheats just as well as any other. It's quite surprisingly strongly made and easy to clean. I like it a lot and I love the fact that it only cost $49 Show details
Good Design Good Value – Really great microwave and not just great "for $49" which is all it costs. It is a good simple basic unit. The buttons are laid out simply and clearly, it easy to clean and looks good in the kitchen too Cooking times are pretty fast as It's 900 watts which is more than some other cheap models. I mostly use it to defrost meat and reheat dinners… Read more
and it does a great job of both. I have no complaints and think it is fabulous value for the price paid.
Excellent microwave – Had a sharp before and replace with the homemaker by recommendations and never looked back. It does everything I need and the price was right for me. I'd recommend this microwave to everyone cheap without the add on cost by brand names. Heats up quick and it is very easy to clean. Show details
Good, no problems – This is perfectly fine for everyday use. I think it cost about $49 from memory- fantastic budget value. We've used it everyday for nearly 2 years, and no problems at all. Just wipe spills clean inside for maintenance. Show details
Great for the price – As a regular microwave user, this unit does more than enough. It cooks and re-heats food well, and is very easy to use (especially with the quick start option available). The only annoying thing is that the microwave clock is slightly fast, and will go out of sync of other devices quite quickly. For someone looking for a microwave on a small budget, I'd recommend this microwave. Show details
This is good – This microwave is really good. That is easy to use and convenient. That is cheap but that has good perfomance. If you need a new microwave i recommend this microwave to you. Maybe you will satisfied to this microwave. If there is one problem that noise is biger any others. Show details
Good microwave – Cheap and good build, I mean I use this more than I would a bigger brand one because it doesn't cost 10 times the price. Me and the family use it daily for things like defrosting meat heating meals cooking noodles and more it is abit weak but I just heat for longer times Show details

Can’t live without!!! – The first thing I use every day is this microwave to heat up my cup of milk to make a coffee, I could not live without it. The microwave heats up everything really fast. Budget Burner – Simple to use. Not very powerful, but just add an extra 2mins to compensate. Make sure you wipe excess moisture from inside the oven to prevent rusting. Very cheap and very reliable for 're heating of left overs and frozen meals. Also, the microwave has ample room to fit contents. Show details
Making my life better easily – I have had several microwaves in my years from very cheap to very dear but i have found this brand and model to be exactly what i required its a great size and was a great price my mother had also purchased this one as well and she was very happy so i got one. Show details
Cheap and good as starter – It is a functional microwave that does its job: defrosting, heating and also spinning. One thing I notice when using this microwave is that the scent of the food attached to the microwave easily so it gets smelly at times. Also I notice that when using this a bit too much, there's a burnt smell which I don't have any idea where from. Show details
Good but huge! – I bought this a couple of years ago and it still works well, however it is huge and takes up a large amount of counter space. Always works well and is big enough to make large meals. Not compact at all so if you were looking for something small this is not the microwave for you Show details
It's great like an oven – It defrost cooks potato in minutes and can Even make popcorn and heats up food in just 1 minute It makes baked dinners and it has ten power levels and six auto menus and it's size is really large 32(H) by (52) W 395 D (W) in right size and it's great Show details
Does the job – Does everything a microwave should. Recently got my own place, this is perfect for a start out microwave. Cant fault it, easy to understand to, not too large fits perfectly where it should fit. Use it on a daily basis. does not get way too hot like some microwaves I have used in the past Show details
Perfect – To me, it is more than perfect. I use it everyday to reheat and defrost food. Affordable price and good size for my kitchen. Very easy to clean and use. I have used it for couple of years but I haven't had any issues even the light or quality. Defrosting function works well. Show details
Great – Great price. Great size. It seems to cook evenly and is easy to clean. I haven't had any issues with the light. Defrosting works well. Some microwaves cook the outside and leave the middle frozen when defrosting but this one doesn't. Thank you Kmart for having good affordable electrical appliances. Show details
