Plenty of suck (the good kind), too much plastic though – Plenty of suck we have kids and cats and it can clean after them easily The power head is great. It worked wonders when we had carpet Great warranty and support from hoover a few bad things It's very plasticy with single points of failure (solitary plastic clips holding heavy parts together) the engine blew up within the warranty period… Read more

a few years back and was replaced.. but that was because we filled the bathtub with beanbag balls as a joke.. then needed a way to get them out. It them out but the styrofoam got everywhere inside and blew it up i guess

The clip keeping the bottom of the canister has always been a bit iffy, but push it back with your finger and it'll hold eventually

Aaand the clip holding the hose into the body snapped a few weeks back

I tried finding a replacement online, called godfreys where we got it (clip not available as separate part & hose discontinued)

I then contacted hoover support by email, and they sent me a replacement clip free of charge!

the vacuum's back to sucking and will hopefully go for another 5-6 years

Dreadful cleaner – Heavy cleaner to use and cord too short. Did have very good suction with the motorised head before it ceased working and at 6 yrs old was not repairable nor were replacement heads available. At $699 to be unrepairable nearly 6 years later it proved a very expensive cleaner and Godfreys were very unhelpful when we returned the machine to be repaired. Have since brought a different brand of cleaner and from another supplier.  Show details

Excellent – Surprised by the negative reviews 'cause it's the best vac we've ever owned. Four years old and still going strong. Great suction and no expensive bags to buy. Love it.

BETTER THAN MY OLD DYSON – I have had my Hoover Core Plus for about 4 years and so far (touch wood) it has been a great little vacuum cleaner. I have certainly not had any of the breakage problems other people have had and whilst the dust barrel is small it doesn't worry me. Prior to owning this I had a Dyson and it was the biggest bit of rubbish, so compared with that the… Read more

Hoover is great. I mean who likes vacuuming anyway, but this vac does everything I want. Compact, good suction. Small dust barrel.

Cleans Well – This vacuum cleans very well with the power head. We had one small clip break off the hose, but it is a free part from Godfreys and easily replaced. You will need to empty the canister often, and there are two other filters that require attention as well. Not a cheap cleaner, but it cleans so well. Ours finally blew a motor after 5 years, so not… Read more

a long lasting item. Most others I think are not designed to go that far. Great cleaning. Choice of heads. Steel pipe. Too many light plastic parts, breakable.

Question – How could any reasonable human being give a positive comment about this machine, unless of course they work for godfreys or Hoover. Without doubt considering its price tag of around $700 this would have to be the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever touched, furthermore without the power head it is rendered virtually useless

Hoover Core an average vacuum cleaner – When we first purchased the H/Core vacuum cleaner we had owned it for 3 months and the cord rewind malfunctioned rewinding the cord back in every time you pulled it out. We returned it to Godfrey's for repair and when we went to collect it we discovered that we had been given another vacuum cleaner. Now this vacuum cleaner has problems also. Again… Read more

the cord continually rewinds in and the extension tube will not clip and hold when extended. The vacuum cleaner has a very strong suction but only if you regularly empty it. I have had to dismantle the dust container and clean it out with compressed air to maintain a good suction rate in the vacuum cleaner. The old barrel hoover that the Core replaced was a 100% better machine, stronger and better suction with an easy to empty dust bag. We will be looking very carefully for a replacement in the near future.

Why can't we give zero stars? – Three year old vacuum cleaner with problems from early days. The wire up the vacuum hose to catch dog hair and clog the hose is just the start as the clever bend in the hand grip means you can't simply poke something in to clear the blockage. The canister holds very little and requires frequent emptying. As for suction. what suction? I grew up with Hoovers, they aren't what they used to be. Oh, and I forgot the broken plastic clip.

Lasted 8 years! – Very happy with this little vacuum. Recently replaced with another, so the Hoover is still going strong! The pro's are it sucks like mad, easy to use, and good longevity. The con's are the plastic's are prone to break really easy, anything that hinges will break with the slightest of abuse, the plastic pipes will end up wobbly, ill fitting and… Read more

reduce suction, the clips will snap off.

Every month I blast the hoover out with compressed air, wash the filters, and soak and wash the dust collector with soapy water. At the moment the little Hoover is covered in duct tape and elastic straps, but after a blast with compressed air, almost works like new. I think this is a case of the motor being built well, and the plastic parts being built by anyone. Speaking of the motor, in the last few months the motor has sounded extra loud or high pitched, so I am thinking it might be on the way out...

Wouldn't buy it again – I have owned this vacuum for 4 years and have had a lot of problems... wheels braking off, the hose connection was always falling out, the clip that holds the lid on the bagless container snapped, the power cord was too short - had to change power points quite a few times during vacuuming, the motorized head lost connection twice -the first time… Read more

it reconnected on it's own after about 3 uses & the second time it has never started again and most recently while using it, it started making a loud noise and bellowing smoke from the motor!

It's best features was the vibrating head and rotating bristles it cleaned my carpets really well (2 kids & a dog) and was easy to change heads for hard surfaces.

This came highly recommended to us from the Godfreys, I won't be making that mistake again...Product review will be the first place I go to check the product & other peoples experience.

Bit expensive, but does a good job overall – We purchased the hoover core plus model about 5 years ago. The machine is still going strong. But we have had a few thing over the year break on the machine like the button the release the bottom lid for the rubbish to fall out. A couple of part inside the power head broke. Power cored doesnt re-track anymore. Few crack of the handle. We paid… Read more

approx. $600, at that time. For the price it probably could have been built better. But overall we have found it a good unit.

Everything broke – Within the first year the front wheel snapped off. Soon after, the dirt catching container latch wouldn't open by pushing the button, then the on/off switch wouldn't switch off ( it just kind of flicked on and off and ran at half speed instead of switching off), then the auto cable retract decided to not hold the power cable out, it now retracts… Read more

as we are using it. Now, today, the latch that holds the hose onto the vac body has broken so it can't be pulled along with the hose. We thought being a Hoover, it would be a quality product, especially as the price seemed pretty steep to me (hubby), but apparently not.

In fairness though, it does still suck really well.

hoover core plus and godfreys nz – I found Godfreys nz to be money hungry and deceitful in there dealings the hoover was obviously cheaply made and every time there a problem and there were many it was $52 to start with and no indication of final cost'; your in their hands and in my mind they are not to be trusted $52 for a plastic part worth probably 50cent to make is not good… Read more

Hoover used to be the "go to" brand; not anymore! – A frustrating unit that is near impossible to clean, follows with the directional aptitude of a shopping trolley and is very noisy. Ours has been back within the first six months. The cartridge looks like it should come apart for ease of cleaning, but doesn't; it's too small and requires constant emptying. Now lies in the garage for cars only, with a new Miele replacement.

Blew up – The unit cleans well mainly because of the power head but all the plastic parts have failed and the last straw was this morning when it literally blew up. The motor burnt out and the smell from the smoke is really bad. My mum had a Hoover for 30 years. They don't make them like that anymore!

Do not get "sucked in". Get something else! – The problems began shortly after I bought it. The rubber band that spins the power head broke - as did the second one. All required a trip to the fix it place, which sent it away for a few days. Next something else was wrong with the no power head. This time as the vacuum cleaner was moved towards the operator, it would cut out. The head was… Read more

replaced for a fee of $40. Next the wheel under the unit that is like the front wheel on a bike, came out. That was replaced, free of charge and a spare was given to me in case it happened again, showing great faith in the product. All the time the canister was so so very difficult to empty and after my husband struggled a couple of times... he took it back. This was replaced. I am not sure if we paid, but the second canister opens fine. Now, today I have discovered that the reason the hose become detached from the main unit when I pull it, even though I have pushed it in and etc, is that the actual plastic thing that must hold it in place has broken off. Where it is and how long it has actually been like this.. as I have been putting up with it for 20 minutes or so, I have no idea. Please do not get sucked in. My generous husband paid over $600 dollars for this, when it first came out believing that he was getting me a really great unit. NO way! Never buying Hoover again... cost me in inconvenience, trips to the local dealer, frustration and then the product isn't efficient either.

Bad design – I paid over $700 for my Hoover Core plus with power head about 5 years ago. Mechanically it’s still working perfectly but its manoeuvrability; small bag less cartridge (needs emptying after each room), sharpe edges, non-swivelling hose and upright handle constantly falling over drives me batty at times. I have gouged my walls with this vacuum.… Read more

Just recently I had to take the power head apart as the standing mechanism broke, I could not find replacement parts so removed the problem part but it will never standalone again. Overall it’s a good cleaner, brushes the carpet pile well, easy to wash the bag less cartridge. But I wont be taking tips from a vacuum salesperson any more. Had a powerful VAX before, might be returning. Easy to Clean, good suction, carpets are brushed nicely. Manoeuvrability; small bag less cartridge (needs emptying after each room), sharpe edges, non-swivelling hose and upright handle constantly falling over

Absolute rubbish! Worst money ever spent on a vaccuum!!!! – My husband was suck into buying this from a godfreys store! It was $499 we have had it just on a year and there is literally no suction at all anymore! I clean the filter continuosly and empty the round cylinder to no avail! The plastic it is made out of is more flimsly than the $2 dollar bargain store products. The handle breaks off the body of… Read more

Why make the key parts that hold it together out of brittle plastic? – The plastic parts that hold this thing together are stupidly flimsy. I'm so sick of this kind of thing. We paid a lot of money for ours and within a couple of years the latch that holds the dust collector to the machine broke. We strapped it on as a makeshift repair, but were unable to use the handle to pick it up with from then on, very… Read more

inconveniently. Then the auto-rewind on the electric cord wouldn't stop rewinding, so the cord won't stay out - every time you go to move to another part of the room, you find you are tethered to the the power point by a short leash. Now the latch that joins the hose to the machine is broken - another useless piece of plastic - and although the vacuum part of the machine still works fine, the hose falls out all the time, rendering it useless as a functioning cleaner. Good suction Flimsy, shoddy plastic parts are used to hold the thing together.

Best vacuum I have ever owned – Love this vacuum. I have had it for around 6 years. It is amazing at picking up pet fur out of carpet and off suede upholstery. Really strong suction. The only downfall would be how tricky it can be to pull apart the barrell to empty it, but it's great to be able to wash all the parts. Despite this, it's worthwhile to have such clean floors.… Read more

Non swivelling hose drives me crazy – I puchased this model from Godfreys Lower Hutt. Paid $699 so thought it would be the best ever. Bad as – Bought this vacuum after being strongly recommended by sales person at Godfreys and paid $649 dollars thinking it would nearly outlast me. For 2 years it worked reasonably well. Now only a few months after the warranty ends and the motor dies. Very expensive to get replaced. Won't buy another Hoover. Will just get a cheaper vac and buy a new one every couple of years if needed. Didn't last

It was good when it worked – Initially, the powerhead was really effective but I don't know what has happened to it now. It stopped sucking and started spitting fluff instead. After removing fluff from the power head, I eventually found that the whole steal arm was full of fluff so some how, it is not making it into the collection area.

Overpriced and very disappointed – Godfreys staff did an excellent demo and convinced me I didn't need a Dyson and it did have Very good suction, but when you pay $699 for a vacuum you expect to get quite a few years service, I got 3 just. The turbo head is very heavy and it appears a wire has broken and it no longer has any power to it. It is difficult to get apart and clean all the filters etc. Suction easy to empty Too heavy, hard to store and its no longer working

Overpriced and more trouble than it's worth – We originally bought the Hoover Core Plus+ after an impressive showing from the Godfreys staff member when we went in looking for a Dyson not realising they no longer stock them. months and its been in for repair three times and has spent 3-4 months with Godfreys and sent back to Hoover being fixed. First time the motor went and had to be fully replaced, second time the cord retractor would no longer worked correctly and the cord wouldn't stay out of the machine, and third time the motor went again (unsure what they've done as the machine still hasn't been returned to us).

We have four cats and an 8 month of baby who is learning to crawl and we've currently been without a vacuum and borrowing the in-laws ancient Dyson for close to two months while Godfeys/Hoover attempt to fix the piece of junk, we've requested a refund so we can go buy a different brand machine which is actually fit for purpose. While the suction was great and the power head worked fantastically when the machine is actually running the vacuum has been totally unreliable and nothing but a huge inconvenience to us. We will never again buy a Hoover vacuum after the experience of owning a Core Plus+. Good suction, easy to empty, effective power head attachment Expensive for quality, constantly breaking down, slow warranty repair service, hose/vacuum head don't stand by themselves when stored

What a disappointment – The worst domestic applicance I have bought in the last 30 years. Designed by someone who has never used a vacuum in their life. good job,

too heavy for any practical use, wand/handle does not support weight of the hose so it falls over heavily all the time when at the rest position, power head band and retractible cord device both broken in the first 12 months.

What a disappointment after a long living Hoover upright that lasted 18 yrs! No wonder Hoover has discontinued this product.

Expensive, cheap plastic breaks easily, poor design snags when moving around, power head too heavy

Worst vacuum cleaner I have ever owned – The quality of plastic used is absolutely rubbish. The wireless connections to the power head keep breaking because of poor design where things interconnect. Clips & other parts easily crack and break off. If you're looking for a long lasting unit, this isn't the one. I can't really say anything good about it.
