Hoover Hygiene . VC358 Vacuum – I used it on carpet , Hard wood Tilled. Very well performed on all flooring. Never tipped over was a strong vacuum You are all crazy lol, I brought this Vacuum in the year 2004 , it just died on me today 02/08/22 yes its heavy, yes sometimes things get stuck in the tube, the plug broke 10 years back the extension on the tube got stuck in 5 years… Read more · 1
back, the power head belt has broken twice, the vacuum is the most powerful suction I have never felt, the bags were cheap to buy the wheels were great I'm so sad it died , my partner did not like it so not everyone is the same so sorry you are not crazy we I can say as I was the main user of this vacuum its was wonderful, Now if you are looking at buying one well don't!! reason being as I said 20 years the thing is old buy something new , RIP Vac now my next one will likely be a Miele because I want another 20 years and most vacuums are not as good today as they were .
The machine has outlasted the parts – I can’t believe there are so many negative reviews here for the Hoover Hygiene+...I do understand some are due to no longer being able to get spare parts and for that reason, I’m bummed too. We bought ours around nine or ten years ago. The machine is still fighting fit, despite the heavy workload it has had to endure. We have dogs, dust, chickens… Read more · 1
who like to come into the house when they get the chance, more dust, dog hair, and a miniature pig, who spent his first year living in the house in the early days of our faithful Hygiene+. Sadly, the handle has broken on the hose and Hoover are no longer making them and mine is the one with the flathead plug which fits into the machine and these are not available anywhere. Alas, if I cannot find a replacement hose, I’m going to have to say adios and farewell to my trusty Hoover. I’ll be moving on to the Wertheim which, I believe, has bought out the the rights from Hoover on this top end machine. I couldn’t bear to go backwards in a new vacuum cleaner, so Wertheim, here I come!
RIP 7 years BUT why is so hard to fix – Okay we picked this up circa 2011 it was a refurb $350 thereabout 7 years on it has finally died. We hate carpet mind you and I had no owned a vacuum since the 80s. I am 59 I recall as a kid dad and I being able to access the belts the motor etc to fix we always fixed things it was a right of passage. What the hell I cannot tell you how… Read more
frustrating this one has been the roller you used to be able to take out cut all the wound hair twine whatever, not nowadays its a sealed unit God forbid they want you to buy a new one same for repairing the motor. WTH it's a simple motor a moron could actually fix like cars used to be and bicycles. Not now it too is sealed like having a computer on a car. I would suggest NOT buying this for maintenance and usability its heavy especially when trying to do stairs bloody nightmare. I gave it 2* - 1 off for not being easy to repair, 1* off for weight and lack of ease of use, 1* ff for parts breaking early on fortunately my Heath Robinson skills I was able to jimmy fix the sleeve that held the bag in place with yes a rubber band. Latches broke, nozzles broke which we replaced never again. I'd sooner buy an old Kirby one I can fix myself. What a racket of a world we live in when you are expected to buy disposable products. Contacted Godfreys they were stunned it lasted that long. My Nan had a vacuum (Hoover to us Brits) lasted her almost 40 years.

One of the Best Vacuum Cleaners. I just loved it – I actually got into the store to buy a $ 100 or under Vacuum Cleaner, and that was final. After all all Vacuum Cleaners do only 1 thing (Suck the dust). No Brainer. When I spotted this machine I just casually asked to see it in action. I came out of the Store paying over $ 450/= + a Turbo Canister attachment for it and was in a Zap as I walked… Read more
out of the store. But I would not have left the store without it. The Salesman did not sell it, I bought it.
Okay now here are is the main feature I liked. The Motorized Power Head. This is actually a Electric Powered Motor that spins at high speed and actually pulls up the stubborn hair and anything stuck to the carpet. I used it in conjunction with a Turbo Dust Interceptor that actually had a transparent canister to collect the dirt and saved me heaps on replacing bags.
Then also, as it cleaned the carpet it actually was brushing the carpet putting life in the carpet.
I thoroughly enjoyed this product and still is in working order to date.
Only annoying thing is that the telescopic arm does not have proper balance and tips over often if it is not stood properly, this caused the canister to hit the ground, the canister is solid plastic and took some years before it developed a crack.
But still, I am very happy with one thing its Performance in Action and its End Result.
Love it, warts and all – This vacuum cleaner works extremely well for what I need. I get really bad hayfever, so needed something that would remove ALL dust. With the power head and catcher attachment the Hoover does just that. The amount of dust and hair this picks up is mind boggling! I usually have to empty the catcher after every room to keep the suction going. The… Read more
power head really shakes the dirt loose so that it can be vacuumed up, so this isn't suitable for a quick clean. Each room takes about 10 minutes to clean thoroughly at a pace that picks up all the dirt, dust, and dog hair. We have a white dog and black carpets, so I want all the hair up.
I would have given this appliance a perfect score, but it overheats and switches off after 3 or 4 rooms. If I want to do the whole house in one day then I have to let the Hoover cool down for a few hours before completing the vacuuming. This is a bit annoying. The vacuum also gets extremely hot to the touch including where the crevice tools are kept in the little hatch on top. I was a bit concerned the first time that happened but it worked fine later on. This is probably a design flaw.
Quite expensive but I feel worth the price, this vacuum set me back $500 plus $49 for the catcher attachment. Totally worth it as absolutely nothing gets to the bag, and the attachment is really easy to empty and clip back in. I've had this for a while now and haven't had to replace the bag!
Even with the little flaws and annoyances this vacuum is brilliant. I don't get hayfever at all anymore which doesn't sound like much, but my quality of life has improved dramatically. Would definitely buy again.
My partner laughs at me when I show him how much dirt and hair is in the catcher whenever he is around! I still can't get over it. Amazing.
Hate it – I purchased this in December 2012. The vacuum head does not track at all well, cannot cope well with a change of direction and gets - stuck - the only word I can think of. It just does not glide smoothly over the floor, be it carpet or vinyl. I also do not like how difficult the components are to connect - very stiff and tight. Addition - July… Read more
2020 - this unit has been used once a fortnight so effectively is really only 4 to 5 years old in wear/tear - the bloody thing has nearly killed me by electrocution. The power cord melted through leaving live wires exposed, near the plug. The cord is quite light, flimsy, has always gotten warm with use. For nearly being killed all I get from Godfreys the only contact for Hoover in Australia, is the usual tripe it is no longer under warranty. By Australian law it is Godfreys. Godfreys has lied to me through the dispute process and are now black listed, will never be buying from them again. Godfreys has repaired the unit by cutting the cord up past the fault and reattaching plug. So this fault can be expected to happen again. They expect me to pay for this repair. I will not pay for a patch repair and wait around to be electrocuted again for a fault that should not have happened.
Off to court we go! I am not going to stand for a 50 to 100 dollar year loss on equipment as manufacturers seem to think is acceptable. IT IS NOT. Especially when a fault such as this should never have occurred.

Rubbish – We have had this vac for about two years we purchased it to replace our previous one which looked pretty much the same the previous one lasted 10 years with out a single issue in the end the little lugs that held the wheels on wore ot and broke we replaced it with this one and in the first year had nothing but trouble with the new one the problem… Read more
is the hose everypart of it has issues they are not durable at all the clip that holds it into the vacume is rubish and will break the moment you look at it even the avoid this at all costs for the money we spent we could have purchased a decent vacuum for a little more on top
Decent vacuum, but hard to clean – This was given to me as a gift, so I did not purchase this myself. The vacuum is bulky and heavy, very difficult to drag around, the cords are especially easy to get stuck. The vacuum power seems to be adequate, it is able to suck up most of the dust, hair, and even broken pieces of glass. However, hair does get stuck at the suction area and… Read more
is hard to clean.
Not as good as other brands with a lighter build, but decent enough to do the job
Worst vacuum ever – Paid a few hundred dollars for this as the sales guy from Godfrey recommended it, Very poor quality vacuum. Keeps getting things stuck in it and the design is so poor that it is hard to unblock. Virtually all the vacuum parts keep breaking. Poor quality plastic is used. It is actually worse than a cheap vacuum under $100. Do NOT buy. Going to stay away from Hoover from now on. Show details
Hate it – Bought it from Godfreys in Townsville in 2013 the motor has died it gave nothing but trouble from the first time I bought it , within a 2 Months something broke in the bag compartment. I am so disgusted I spent $ 500 on it , I had not bought a new vacuum cleaner for 15yrs before this. Will never buy another Hoover and am warning all friends not to buy one.!!!!!! Show details
Hoover Hygiene with Hepa melting problem – Looking at reviews for Hoover Hygiene and no one has mentioned this vacuum also gets so hot it actually melts the machine. Mine did it just after the guarantee period and took it back to Godfreys who said I must have done something wrong as it had never happened before. Had it in my car when I went to swimming only to find my friend had just taken… Read more
hers to the same place the day before as the same had happened to hers. She looked at mine and said hers was exactly the same and she was getting a replacement. Looked on reviews at the time and found others had the same experience. Must say the cleaning was great and electric was also, but not user friendly.
Top Class Vac – After reading some of the reports on here I was motivated to write this. The bottom line is if you treat your items with respect they will last. I've had my vac for years and never the slightest glitch with it. It works really well and is definitely superior to the dyson that we had previously. Its a hygienic vacuum because it removes all of the dust and dirt that the power head is designed to do. Show details

Hate it! – I paid a decent amount of money for this vacuum thinking that I was getting a quality vacuum, but it's heavy and bulky. The suction is poor, the head just seems to push the duct around instead of sucking it up.
love it and sometimes hate it – Love it only bad thing is stuff getting stuck in pipe which is hard to.get lose so it's ways not sucking correctly Dislike that it gets hot Love the power head Hate the changing of it hate the dear parts but it's still running so will do u till it dies have had it since 2011
Terrible handle and hose – I should never have upgraded from my 15yo Panasonic. I spent $500 on the Hoover Hygiene and right on end of warranty, the handle and hose broke. No support from Hoover who told me to go to Godfreys who said as I just ended warranty period, I have to purchase new handle for $120! The rod is metal but the handle is plastic and cannot withstand 1… Read more
vacuum per week of 3 carpeted bedrooms! Worst investment made and terrible rude service from Godfreys. Lucky I kept my Panasonic. Do not buy!
Hopeless – Although mine is old, it's always been hopeless. Bits keep breaking and I am unhappy that my husband spent $500 on such a useless vacuum cleaner.
Not great – I have replaced the hose twice at a cost of $100 each time as it split and the plastic cracked when using the power head. It has broken again and I have taped it up. The wheel feel off, the power head is starting to go, not good quality at all!!
Not easy to find a positive attribute – The vaccuum is heavy and gets really hot. The connector joint of both power and regular heads have cracked. I recently paid about $80 (?) to have it serviced at Godfreys because it lost all its suction. They told me they replaced the motor which I doubted as it was not under warranty - I suspect the motor would represent a little more than $80… Read more
value of the machine. It still gets really hot. They didn't fix the broken cord recoil I told them about. I'm inclined to agree with the other reviews. No to Godfreys and no to Hoover.
Never buy a Hoover or shop at Geofferys or what ever they are called – I also have one of these I took it back after less than a month as it was getting so hot I though it was going to catch fire .took it home after saying it was fixed , need time I used it ,I accidentally hit the head on so e furniture I was vacuuming around took it back ,couldn't get a new head as discontinued . Would not give me a refund on my useless vacume ,so $600+ down the drain
decent vacuum cleaner – Love the power head. Cord hasn't broken like some other reviewers so maybe we are lucky!! Hatch broke the day we bought it. Upholstery attachment is great. I lose a lot of hair and it picks every last bit up without clogging power head. -1 star for how hot it gets, oh my!!
I hate it!!!! – This is the worst vacuum cleaner ever!!!!! a. It doesn't actually suck up dust, hair or dirt... b. it is heavy and bulky and c. the head power cord disconnects when in use stopping the rollers from working!!! I hate this vacuum cleaner we lashed out to get a good vacuum thinking that Hover would be reliably brand never again...

I thought Hoover meant quality – A costly machine that didn't hold up for 2 years. First, the cord started retracting while vacuuming (left it retracted and use an extension cord), then the floor/carpet head cracked where it attaches to the wand (now held together with duct tape), then the hose cracked at the join to the piece that connects it to the machine (now held together… Read more
with duct tape), and the telescopic wand won't hold in any position but completely down. The vacuum is cumbersome to handle, mainly because of the inflexibility of the plastic hose, but so far the machine itself has worked well. For the amount of money I paid for this vacuum, purchased at Godfrey's, I expected more than 4 years use. I'll never buy another Hoover, nor will I ever buy one from Godfrey's. How much do they mark up the replacement parts anyway? I'll buy another vacuum rather than pay the outrageous prices for replacement parts.....and it will not be a Hoover!
Avoid Hoover, Avoid Godfreys – Hoover Hygiene - Got the hard sell from Godfreys. Worked fine for a couple of hours then started over heating and losing suction. Back to Godfreys but unfortunately they just wanted to sell a higher spec model and kept insisting that we were using it incorrectly. Found out later that Hoover UK was losing money and sold their trading name to other… Read more
distributors outside of the UK so most Hoovers available in Australia have no relationship to the UK manufacturer other than the name.
Purchased a Miele and am very happy.
Lesson learnt - avoid Godfreys and avoid Hoover.
this is bad, can't live with it constantly breaking down – Not a cheap vacuum cleaner but a load of tubbish. Within 9months the engine burnt out so it was replaced. the wheels fall off all the time. Next the hose went and it needed a new rod. Final straw now the super head is no longer working now this may be the head electrics or of course the electrics going from the hose to the body of the cleaner. I… Read more
have had enough. I am buying a new cleaner. Possibly a Dyson .
Different things keep happening to it. All seem to take quite a while to repair.
Worst vaccuum cleaner ever – After a year the power head stopped working as the connection to the actual vaccuum cleaner broke. We were told that it would cost more than the unit was worth to fix it, so I have put up with it for the last year or so. Never again, will "get it right the first time" and buy a dyson next.
Who is worse Hoover Hygiene Plus or godfreys.com.au/ – I own a Hoover Hygiene Plus which I purchased from Godfreys. I've probably used it 20 times in 2 years and the Powerbrush no longer works. The powerbrush has a broken belt which costs $5 but godfreys (eastgarden westfield NSW) wants $350 for a new powerbrush or $220 to fix it with a 10 week wait or spend $1000 + on a new made in Europe Vacuum.… Read more
The salesman says that Hoover Hygeine + is a piece of 5h1t while they highly recommended this just 2 years ago! While the machine does get hot and loses its suction power etc etc; it is a decent machine only with the power head. The belt in the powerhead has broken in less than 25 uses while Godfrey rather than helping out fix the machine wants additional $$$. Powerhead Bad Service
Never Hoover or Godfreys again – Purchased in January 2013. Used 12 times. Lost suction after a few minutes every time I used it and on 2 occasions the top of the body was so hot I couldn't touch it. few minutes and gets hot. Came back (8 weeks later) with the all clear from the service centre only to lose suction after a few minutes.
Told by Hoover to take it back to Godfreys and trade in to a 'more suitable machine'.
Godfreys sales spiel does not match the reality of the purchase.
Have checked Choice magazine reviews and purchased an alternative brand on-line. Nice colour Loses suction after a few minutes Poor warranty service
Love Love Love – This vacuum cleaner is amazing. We have 4 cats and a gsd that all live inside. It was very hard to remove the fur from mats and carpets but this vacuum cleaner does an amazing job. I do agree the hatch is cheap, our broke but it doesnt effect the performance of the machine. I would recommend this product to anyone. amazing on pet hair hatch breaks easily
Rubbish – This was an awful awful purchase... I bought it in Jan 2012 and by June 2012 and the power head had fallen to pieces and was couldnt be used. I took it back as it was under warranty and I was told they couldnt fix it because it had been 'used' too much.... I vacuum twice a week .... Godfreys had taken the power head and taken all of the broken… Read more
bits off it and returned it without the broken bits... Without the full powerhead pieces the ACCC didnt want to know about it....Godfreys are a load of rubbish as well and would never buy from them again!!! They can use any excuse to not cover something under warranty!!! It cleaned ok Flimsy broke into pieces within 6 months of use
Attachments are poorly made – This machine is the worst vaccum cleaner I have ever owned. It is currently kept together through lots of tape which is unacceptable for cleaner that cost quite a bit and is only 2 years old. I cannot begin to say how many times I have needed to replace parts. Salesman made out it was the best in the store at the time. Maybe it was the dud… Read more
vacuums they were trying to get rid of. Will never buy another Hoover! Power head is okay and the actual motor is still going The parts like the hose and cleaner head are rubbish
Poor build quality – This was one big disappointment. Poor design and cheap parts let this product down. Had it back to the shop within 2 weeks of buying due to a broken plastic lever; four plastic hinges, clips and hose connectors have broken in the couple of years since. I owned a Hoover previously and was very happy with it, however after seeing the huge decline… Read more
in product quality with the Hygienet, I will never purchase another Hoover product again. When working, the powerhead did a good job of picking up dirt. Poor quality materials, flimsy construction, bad design
The worst vacuum cleaner I ever had – Very disappointed that this was sold to me as Choice best product at the time. This is very heavy, hard work on stairs, the retractable cord keeps retracting and pulling out of power socket as you are cleaning, the plastic on the main head is poor, and broke early on, so I have to sticky tape it on. Suction is good, works best in big open spaces… Read more
with no corners and stairs Heavy and awkward, retractable cord retracts all the time, plastic fittings break easily.
Should sell this with duct tape
Designed to fail – It is a pity a little more thought hadn't gone into the design of the plastic handle, given the weight of the power head. As it is, it appears designed to fail by breaking through at this point, and the replacement hose is very expensive. The connecting mechanisms on the hose and wand are also problematic in that blockages regularly occur at… Read more
these points. I have done a little research on line and these problems are apparently common occurrences with this model. Given that I have had the machine a few years it does not appear to be worth spending $100 on a replacement hose. It is very noisy (the dog is terrified of it), heavy and somewhat unwieldy and does require a lot of TLC to keep it functioning reasonably well, but It does clean up pet hair well. However I find myself extremely disappointed in the product in that I am now looking at chucking it for the sake of a bit of poorly designed plastic and doubt that I will buy another Hoover. I also doubt that I will purchase again from Godfreys given that their sales staff pushed very hard to sell it to me by giving this machine a glowing reference and, from reading the reviews here, still appear to be doing so. Picks up pet hair reasonably well. Appears designed to fail at certain points. Bags and parts are very expensive making it not worth fixing.
Good product – I must be the only person to like this vacuum. although i have the bagless cylinder attachment that extremely lengthens the time between changing bags. have had it 18months and have only just started having one mild problem caused by my niece(her first time being allowed to use it) whacking it hard into the pointed end of a corner and cracking the… Read more
plastic pipe that is attached to the power head.
the power head is brilliant for our horrible old 70's style shag carpet and since owning this vacuum haven't had to get on our hands and knees with the upholstery attachment of our (at the time) less than 12 month old vacuum(hoover smart or something). the cord still retracts using the button, you just have to not expect a tangled cord to be retracted easily by any vacuum.
the head is a little harder than most to change but once you realise that the dent in the steel pipe is where you have to twist the power head lock button to before pushing down and then twisting further the same way and then pulling the pipe out its easy. the lack of suction at the very edge of the sides is a downer but its not hard just to change the head to the long thin pipe(not sure what its called) or just use the pipe to clean the edges of the carpet.
was never told that you had to change the heads for lino, have used the power head on the lino everyday and its not harming either the lino nor the vacuum. nor have i had to worry about the strength of the vacuum ruining mattresses and delicates as it has a plus/minus button to increase/decrease the suction power.
over all i think its a great vacuum cleaner and am a little disappointed its not being made any more. Great suction, powerhead, brilliant for shag carpet and lino, inexpensive Lack of suction at the sides of the powerhead,
