2 star 4 design and quality..4 star 4 rugs – this machine was highly recommended by Godfreys salesman for my rugs. Excellent at first, best carpet clean from a vacuum, only 2 weeks after warranty expired, a piece of plastic frame from handle broke away and I got zapped while holding it, only one small weak screw attached to hose section broke off, store would not cover replacement, same… Read more
salesman didt give a [Word Removed] that design is defective and I could have been electrocuted, told me I was using it too much (OMG) and i dont have pets or young children, a weekly or fortnightly vacuum only and a small house, bought a new hose, the new one stopped working after a few months, safely taped up old hose handle back on to use instead, short while later the normal foot came apart and had to repair myself, now three years later, powerhead is cutting out depending on the angle used, is noisier than before, lights go on and off occasionally, and like most other reviews I've had to endure the hassle of a hard to pull along vacuum that tips over all the time, cleaning the powerhead after each use, lead not long enough, bad after sales service from Godfreys who only tell you after you pay good money that's its not the best around, and that you cant buy genuine parts for that vacuum cleaner. Thanks Godfreys. I suppose ive had 3 years of cleaner looking rugs and survived a electric zap from exposed wiring inside the broken defective handle. I dont know everything but do know I wont be buying this machine again..
'Spare' Vacuum Now Our MAIN Vacuum! – I initially bought this vacuum as a spare due to my stupidly expensive Wertheim vacuum still being in for a service 3 weeks later! I bought the shop floor model for $299 saving $200. This thing does everything my main vacuum does, but is so much LIGHTER to use & pull around (great for me due to Scoliosis of the spine). It's perfect for the kids… Read more
who fight over using it (go figure!) & the only one that was left happens to be my favourite colour purple!
After having the 'main' vacuum back for a few weeks, it broke & needed repairing so, I decided to buy a 2nd Hoover Mode instead.
Bought the last one is SA again for $299, as now they've made them in 'pastel' colours & discontinued the amazing colours they had before. (I wanted the bright orange one :( )
It cleans the carpets perfectly & you can buy an attachment that goes on the main hose to capture the dirt BEFORE it goes into the vacuum, saving your motor AND vacuum bags :)
I found an online retailer to buy the bags buttloads cheaper & love the power of this machine on my carpets.
Very happy in the few months I've had it so far :)
Impressive for a bagged cleaner, great power head for carpets! – My husband bought me this cleaner when my old dyson finally died! I've only ever had dyson so my heart dropped when I saw he came back with a BAGGED vacumm cleaner - I didn't even know people bought bagged vacuums anymore! Needless to say I am impressed! The power head is excellent especially on my thick pile cream rug, I have a black haired… Read more
dog! Our cleaner used it the first time and was also very impressed, the strong suction literally drags you along and after 1 house clean the bag was full.
On using myself I would say a downside is having to change heads as the power head is good for carpets but not hard floors. I love how you can change the power, it nearly sucked one of my smaller rugs up until I turned the power down and could clean with ease.
Also a tradie had used my previous bagless dyson to clean up dust and my husband used it to clean out god knows what in his car.. I could never get all the dirt out of the cleaner whereas this is all compact in the bag. Maybe having a bag less is not so bad after all!

Best I've ever used – I've seen this give best results on a cut pile carpet but it's still the best vacuum I've ever used. When you go to the trouble of moving all the furniture for a proper job throughout the house, it looks like it's been professionally done. The power head makes all the difference that no other product can copy without it. I do have to remove and… Read more
clean the rotating brush in the power head every so often, due to all my wifes hair it picks up. It's a small price to pay though. It was also a bit pricey but we need a good product with our baby crawling all around the house.
Conventional but efficient – Does a good job, especially with added diverter tool, which catches dust before it reaches the engine. Cheaper and more reliable than later models with transparent containers, albeit somewhat more cumbersome. Show details
Easy to use – The Hoover mate vacuum cleaner is light weight, easy to move around. Bags are easy to empty and replace. Everything about it is easy to use, attachments. Warning when bag is full. After struggling with many vacuum cleaners which were heavy and cumbersome and you needed a degree to take ot bags or tubes, I found this was so easy to use, and… Read more
manouverable. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to use it. No breakdowns, just keeps working. Excellent suction and goes well on all surfaces. This is the vacuum cleaner I have been searching for 20 years. Excellent service from the store when I was selecting the vacuum.
Negative reviews
How I now hate vacuuming! – I absolutely agree with Hammo! Could have written that review myself, word for word! I bought this machine at a low personal ebb while caring for my husband in the last months of his life. He had previously done all the vacuuming because of my unstable shoulder joints so I needed something to try and make the job easier. This was very much hyped… Read more
by the salesperson and while I concede it does do a good job on my persian carpets, it is hopeless on hard floors, even with the special attachment and is so cumbersome and heavy to use. I end up using my 12 year old miele, which does a vastly superior job. If it hadn't cost so much I would just throw it away!
Really good vacuum until the foot breaks – We bought this vacuum cleaner about 3 or 4 years ago. The electric foot broke very quickly and the performance went really bad. Without the foot working the vacuum cleaner is useless. We then got a new one under warranty which lasted for about 2 years. Now we have to find a replacement. As long as the foot is working its really good to clean… Read more
carpet. Yes it does temd to fall over but who cares? We have a lot of dog hair and the hoover mode takes care of it all which is brilliant. The foot is a little fragile so thats the weakness of this vacuum cleaner.
Not That Good – A clumsy little fellow that struggles to keep up with you without the need to yank it over it's own cord and set it back upright if you corner too fast. A trusted brand from my childhood that is a bit of a pain to use. The suction is ok though and it gets the job done (probably not to the extent the Geoffrey's salesperson suggest with his little sales gadgets). Show details

Cheaply made, handle snapped, Motorhead ankle broke after 4 years – Was brilliant in the beginning, turbo head was impressive, however the body is extremely painful to work with, every time I pulled to go forward machine ended up like a turtle on its back. The handle snapped, lucky no wires were exposed. The ankle shaft of the motor head completely broke off, godfreys no longer sell the head just a few years after… Read more
purchase, suction in machine has also deteriorated after time. Would have had to order a whole new head for another $100. Standard head is pathetic on carpet, don’t be fooled by the excess features either.
Here’s something I was told in store after seeking repairs, “For every $100 you spend, is the years your machine will last you.” - Godfreys
Small but Amazing! – This vaccuum is small & light but mighty on suction! The powerhead is amazing on carpet, especially for pet hair. The power cord is not very long but other than that, this is a very impressive product for the price.
Great vacuum that does a great job – we have had this vacuum for around 5 years now. we have 2 dogs so it gets used regularly. only use it on carpets and still does a excellent job cleaning and picking up hair. never had a days trouble with it. maybe a bit on the heavy side but it feels solid and robust. Anger management practice – I hesitate to use this Hoover Mode because I spend the whole time cursing my mistake in buying it – largely on reputation. It’s so bad than whenever I get it out to use, my dog heads for the sanctuary of her kennel! (She’s sensitive to loud, bad language.) Whichever Hoover ‘wizard’ designed this dreadful excuse for a vacuum cleaner should be made… Read more
to use one in his/her own home. I guarantee within a week they would resign in shame.
Points against
1. Power cable too short.
2. Tiny waste bag that cannot be emptied. Endless and unnecessary cost. It would have been so simple to put an opening slot and pinch clip at one end.
3. Lid will not stay up when fiddling with the waste bag.
4. No easily accessible pickup handle.
5. Head too thick to go under most furniture.
6. Unyielding spiral hose twists easily making use difficult. You have to keep unwinding it as you work round the floor.
7. TINY wheels – unit will not ride over the power cable on solid floors and usually trips up and falls over on carpet.
8. Hose pivot on floor unit too high – machine spends most of its time on its side. Unless you’re pulling it straight ahead, it WILL fall over.
9. On the odd occasion it stays on its feet when being pulled along, it bumps into walls and leaves marks.
10. 7, 8 and 9 are so bad the machine usually can’t be pulled around. It’s actually easier to carry the cleaner with your other hand while you’re using it.
11. The handle cannot be left standing, so while you’re relocating the power cord or picking the fallen machine up, you have to lay the handle down.
12. Hose to handle connection weak meaning the power head intermittently stops. You can’t just hold the wand handle to drag the machine behind you; you have to reach back with the other hand and pull on the hose.
13. The handle extension connections are difficult to push together and pull apart.
Points for;
The power cord retractor works well.
Continues to suck while upside down or on its side.
This is a truly badly designed machine that damages their reputation. No wonder it's discontinued. Hammo SA.

the best value for money – This Vacuum is everything I needed. I am a full time Carer of 81 for my Wife and its' following qualities are the things I was looking for. It is light, it is powerful, it is quiet, it takes up Cat fur, it is easy to move around, and due to triple filter there is no dust smell, It vacuums just as good on Tiled floors as on Carpet Lastly although not that important, it looks very good !!. Very Strong Suction – I purchased this vacuum which at the start was literally the best vacuum i have ever owned and then unfortunately it didn't end their the problems started slowly it started to get louder and louder then the electrical problems started with the power head it would start to cut out I got the vacuum repaired over 4 times but the best thing about it… Read more
was the suction was never lost it always gave a 100% right till the end when it just suddenly blew up and died on me and don't know if this was a coincidence but it blew up the same month the warranty ran out!
I would only recommend it for its suction as it was amazingly strong and never lost suction,
Sorry I actually paid $499 for this pc of crap not $399 and it was sooo not worth the price! Well it's in the bin now! Literally
overpriced average vacuum cleaner – Bought it in August 2016 in a rush, so had not done a proper research homework. The vacuum cleaner itself, is, actually, not that bad but heavily overpriced. By “heavily”, I mean, the fair price should be about half the current price tag. Apart from that, a solid average vacuum cleaner. From a technical point of view, it is OK. Show details
Poor engineering – I expected a lot (because I paid a lot) but the performance is only satisfactory. Two major gripes, the power head failed after 2 years and without it it sucks nothing, and the whole time vacuuming the machine lays on its back, the engineers who thought to be put 'hot wheels' sized wheels on a vacuum really need to hand in their degrees. The vacuum has to be dragged around the house as it is never upright Show details
Heavy, clunky, lacking in many ways – I don't like this prod because it's heavy, clunky, cord is too short so I always have to have an extension cable. The powered head seems to catch hair and strands and they get tangled and stop the rotating head. So it's more work trying to clean head before vacuuming. It doesn't vacuum edges and corner and it doesn't come with good head… Read more
replacement or parts to do these types of jobs. I kept the parts from my old vacuum cleaner and used it to vacuum corners and edges.
I really don't like this. For the money I've spent (around close to $500 a few years ago), it's one of the worst buy.
Does what it needed to do – I bought this machine because my old Miele needed repairs and I wondered if it might be time for a new one. Went into Godfreys with the intention of buying a Miele but got the sales pitch on the Hoover. In the end the selling point was price ($149 less than the Miele I was considering) and it seemed to pick up pet hair better than the Miele. Got… Read more
it home and cleaned pet hair off rug perfectly with power head. Normal head not that good though. Power cord far too short which is annoying and I agree with other reviews that it does seem to tip easily. Overall I'm happy though as itpicks hair up far better than the Miele did. If I had the money I would have bought a Sauber but then it depends on how much you are prepared to pay to clean...
Junk for the scrap heap – Have had this unit for over 2 years close to 3. Seemed to work fine for most of the time except for hair constantly getting hair tangled in the head unit. Just out of warranty and the head unit stop working. As far as I can tell the circuit not motor has crapped itself. Hover Junk!
pulled it apart, cleaned it, put it back together and for some reason it works now????
Rather disappointed with this – I thought that by buying a Hoover you could expect a faultless product. After all, Hoover have been in the 'hoovering' game for decades. Never could I imagine a vacuum cleaner that would be so inept at navigating over it's own power lead. Seems like every time I turn around to look the Mode is on its back having tripped itself up on the… Read more
power lead. They should have named it the 'turtle'.
The power lead is so short I always need an extension lead. LED lights are pointless.
The powerhead works well on the carpet though.
I am amazed that we can fly to Mars but Hoover can't manage to store all the Mode's tools onboard the vacuum.
I'm sure that there are much better similar priced vacuums out there. That said, we've had it 3 years and it's still going strong.
Great Suction After 8 months – The Mode is cumbersome to handle with the power head but we only use it once a month. We have a medium pile carpet and does a pretty good job of lifting up dirt, hair and all. The powerhead cable passes through the handle and has two electrical connectors at the top and bottom. You need to make sure these are clipped in fully. I have tried to open… Read more
the power head but have not read the manual yet. There is a latch mechanism so I assume you can open it. Regular replacement of the bag and HEPA filters will increase the longevity of the machine. There are lots of attachments and I am eager to try them out soon. Overall I am happy with the machine. It is one of the few ones that has a power head and another few years with it will tell if it as good as the high end Wertheims.

picked up pet hair – I have a small house and a big dog have been happy with machine mainly because it pick up pet hair. last machine i bought had an air driven head that i continually unblocked this one has been fine. I Thought the price was alright i paid more for my last one which was bagless and stunk. So my advice to anyone dont buy bagless if you have dogs.
Never again – For what you pay for this machine $700-$800 new it lived in the repair shop most of the time we had it, first it was blowing smoke, then it stopped working then the head stopped working on it never ends. Now the warranty has ran out and can't afford to fix it anymore.
Hoover sucks in design – Had and used it for 3 days, will return! Great for rugs & carpets. Not practical: - Cord length way too short. -Pole wont clip and stay onto machine without rotating the floor attachment. - No handle over the top. -LED lights on the motorhead attract kids & pets, last thing i want is more f__ing obsticals. Feel like no practical design was applied to this machine.
Waste of time, money and cupboard space! – I did not know it was possible to despise an inanimate object as much as my bright orange Hoover Mode vacuum cleaner. I went into Godfreys with a fairly good budget and idea of what I wanted (pet hair, non-bag less, easily manoeuvrable, and prepared to pay up to $700). Well the salesperson soon got me onto this monstrosity and did a obviously good… Read more
job of getting me to buy it. In the shop it seemed to work fine BUT once home and in the real world (not just a fine sprinkling of sand on a new carpet) did I realise how bloody awful this ridiculous machine is! I have had it a year now and am going to have to get a new vacuum cleaner as I can no longer bear this one. Why the hatred .... well .... it spends A LOT of time on its back. If it were cute we would call it turtle. We don't. It makes a high pitch drone, ALWAYS. It can only seem to suck up sand on nice new carpets in demo stores, anything else and it coughs. splutters and flashes all lights in distress. Talking of lights, it has some on the front - a completely useless feature with no benefit - I tend to do my vacuuming in the daytime and leave midnight for sleeping! Rather than snazzy, useless lights, the designers should have spent money on the feature AND BENEFIT of a cord longer than 2.5 measly metres. I cannot even vacuum my lounge from one plug and have to change plugs. Soooo annoying and frustrating. So vacuuming a room anything larger than a lunch tin will take longer than you had hoped .... swapping plugs, turning vacuum right way up about 4 times, getting a skewer to remove accumulated dustball (I always expect I must have sucked up a sock or the entire star wars lego spaceship or maybe even the cat but no - nothing but a big ball of dust it accumulates and chokes on) and all done with the soothing sound of a jet engine - all bark and no bite!! Never will I buy a hoover again! or walk into Godfreys as I fear they have their agenda of what to sell and don't listen to yours! :-(
Hate it with a passion! – I was happy with the demo by the salesmen BUT I since have had the motor replaced and the handle repaired twice. Whilst pulling the machine it constantly tips over and the cord is very short, requiring an extension cord at all times. My two children disappear when I get the vac out of the cupboard as they know that I will end up in an incredibly bad mood. This would have to be the absolute worst purchase I have EVER made.
'Like it a alot' – Very pleased with Hoover Mode (Teal Colour). Fairly light and powerful , easily glides over carpets and hard floors. (I use it on the hard floors with powerhead off). Fantastic on the carpets and so easy to change the bags after having a Dyson with all the hassle and cleaning of bagless and loss of power (never again). The only problem was I… Read more
needed the powerhead replaced after only a couple of months, would recommend extended warranty though (just in case).
Not worth it – Bought this after an impressive in-store demo, and it does suck well. However overall this vacuum isn't worth the effort. It is heavy and awkward to maneuver. The wheels get stuck on the cord and it's a constant battle to move. The power cord is short so an extension cord is needed. The screws in the handle are too short and constantly come… Read more
loose. It is very difficult to disconnect hose from powerhead. There isn't a space in the caddy to store all the heads so you always need to remember where you left the brush. The handle at the top of the hose is too big for an average woman's hand to hold comfortably. And now, after getting dust in the engine after the bag overflowed (which we didn't notice) the thing overheats after 5 minutes. We have mostly floorboards so it's never had to work too hard, but now it's going in the bin. We've only had it a couple of years. Our previous vacuum gave us good service for at least 12.
High maintenance!!!!!! – I feel a bit like we have been conned with this one! The salesman insisted it was the best on the market and for the price tag we really thought it must be good! How wrong we were!!! The Hoover is so high maintenance, I seem to spend more time cleaning the vacuum than the floors.. I can't go get through the entire house without the red light or a… Read more
blockage occurring. I clean the filters and compartments nearly after every use and have to have two on the go in case it plays up half way through. It's pretty light and compact but I still find it a pain to manoeuvre. The head is too thick so it doesnt get underneath all the furniture. The extender is sensitive and keeps sliding shorter and the cord is pretty short so I'm constantly unplugging ang plugging in. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone!!
Not worth it – I bought this in Godfreys and they offered me the demo unit. To save money I bought it. Months later the unit head with 2 screws is always coming out and I find it so hard to vacuum and it does not satisfy me on how it performs. I hope they will refund my money
At first great suction. Hard to disconect powerhead from top and bottom, does not come of easily – Why was this model discontinued. I'm just curious, Suction very good for first 2 months, now have it up on level 3.The most annoying thing is trying to disconnect hose from powerhead either down the bottom and top end. It should release when you press on the release button but I have many tries before it comes off. This is very annoying and must affect those with arthritis in hands and wrists.
Awkward machine – It has a power turbo head for use on the carpet which which so far impresses (though I'm sure it will be clogged with hair in no time). The lead on it is extremely short. You have to unplug & plug it back in for every room you're in. The suction control is variable which is a feature I really like. I still think it's expensive for what it is… Read more
(I paid $499).
Update: Over 1.5 years I have had trouble with the turbo head, it now makes an almighty noise. It is awkward to pull around the house & I have bumped into all of my walls (which has left them marked).
I've since retired this machine. I hate using it. I consider it a waste of money. Quiet machine, available in different colours. Extremely short lead. Hard to remove vacuum head. Pricey. Have to buy bags.
Good when powerhead works – Started out well but after 3 months of light use the powerhead was not working. I took back to godfreys they tested and replaced with new powerhead. All ok for approx 5 months and powerhead is again not working. I have had this " fantastic " machine for 18 months and just about to go in again with 3rd powerhead issue. I am not happy and and thankful i took a 3 year warrantee. Big hassle!!
Good Product – Its a Bit too Early to write this review but i got this on Saturday Evening and right away put this to the Test and was i surprised to see what an amazing job this could do. The Power Head does an amazing job and as it s a Level 3 Cleaner the amount of Penetration on the carpets made sure that the fine stuck on dirt / Dust were all captured with… Read more

The only negative comment i can think of is that due to the way the handle is situated it makes cleaning the Car a bit of a drama. Anyways not complaining...
Overall it is a good product and with the right knowledge on operating it it is sure to last.
