our new 445 sqm 5 bedroom family home. From our first visit to Hotondo Southern highlands meeting Brent and Jess, we felt sure they could help us complete our design and then create our new family home. We also realised the importance of choosing experienced local builders, particularly with our challenging Council and sourcing various products, throughout the build. We have been nothing but impressed with the team at Hotondo from the design process right through to the completion, over the 2-year project. Their patience as we altered the design several times to best suit the site and budget, was always supportive. Their commitment to maintaining quality of workmanship was outstanding, their constant communication, their transparency and accurate costings, ensured we were always updated and well informed. Detailed and clear estimates on variations helped us keep within the build budget. The high calibre of professionalism of every staff member both in the office and each contractor on site over the build, was impressive. A highly skilled and respectful team of trades people and office staff. The follow up beyond our build completion has also been excellent. There have been many queries, questions and very minor fix ups that Jim has ensured, have been attended to immediately. Over the past 12 month build Hotondo Southern highlands were in constant communication with Paul and I. We were always able to reach the project manager Jim and Amy in the office, with any questions or concerns. They always replied immediately and were very adaptable to changes throughout the build. Sean was also very present throughout the building process and his attention to detail, enabled him to give us valuable advice on many aspects of the final design, sometimes improving design and functionality of living and kitchen spaces, throughout our home. Our home is now complete, and we couldn’t be happier!! A beautifully finished exterior and high-quality interior. We love our new home! We would highly recommend Hotondo Southern Highlands to build any home whether it be a project or custom build. They were an exceptional service from design right through to completion. The Hotondo Southern Highlands team had been recommended to us by a friend of the family, so we were stoked when they agreed to take it on. Given that we were doing a custom build, the pre-build team were fantastic in going to extra lengths to double check things outside of their usual builds (e.g. in-slab hydronic heating, polished concrete floors throughout). Throughout the build, we had regular updates and were always up to date with where it was at and what was coming next. Given the building-climate in terms of material shortages, any curveballs were clearly explained and we collectively strategised through our options. Our build commenced in 2021 and we had handover May 2022 so it was a lengthy process, but again, given the building climate we cannot fault Hotondo Southern Highlands for any material or trade delays. The build was extremely well managed throughout and our final cost came in pretty close to our estimated cost.

Having lived in the home for nearly a year, I cannot state this strongly enough - the quality of the build is excellent. The home has exceeded our expectations in every way. Post-handover repairs were minimal and have been attended to, everything works as it should.

There was long council delays before our build was started, however hotondo kept me up to date the whole time. The initial planning included selection of bricks, roofing, kitchen cabinets, bathrooms tiles, etc. We were offered the services of a decorative consultant to guide us through the process. We were able to select kitchen cupboards, tiles, windows, bricks etc after personal appointments direct with the suppliers. Hotondo accommodated changes to the standard plans to tailor our home to our particular needs. They allowed us to provide some of our own appliances and light fittings. Hotondo obviously employ quality tradespeople and under the stewardship of Jim the supervisor the end result was excellent. Having owner built several homes in the past we were very impressed with the outcome. Quality brickwork, electrical, carpentry, gyprock, etc. Hotondo made recommendations to improve the outcome and made some changes without cost. The build was completed within budget expectations with no surprises. We were very impressed with the professionalism, honesty, and knowledge of the Hotondo team. It was a pleasure dealing with Shaun, Brent, Jim, Jessica, Brittany and the rest of the team. After we moved into the home the minor issues were attended to promptly without argument.

Hotondo helped me to realise my dream but showed me how to adapt my original plans to be more cost effective. I appreciated their honesty, integrity and professionalism. the local industry norm. From our initial contact with Sonia who is responsible for sales and design development it became clear we were dealing with a very professional outfit. A design concept had been laid out for the Barton Close development which required building to a Heritage Theme which is the reason we purchased a block of land in Barton Close in the first place.

With Sonia’s help we adopted one of Hotondo’s standard floor plans and she made a number of valuable suggestions to both the internal floor plan to match our needs and importantly made suggestions about external design features that would add to the heritage image; these design features were picked up and added to by Brent, Shaun and Kim who is the Contract and Approvals Manager. Hannah and I were pretty clear what we wanted in our new home and what we wanted it to look like; Hotondo’s internal features and the quality of their standard fixtures and fittings are second to none and we only selected a very few non-standard items; for the outside we thought the roof pitch, bagged brickwork and window design would make the best contribution to the heritage theme and sensible advice on improvements from Brent, Shaun and Kim led to a picture of our dream home an exciting vision to contemplate. And the Hotondo Team made this vision a reality and were backed by specialists in Interior Design, Kitchen Design, Electrical and Communication Design, Plumbing Layout and Landscape Design

Once we signed off on the plan and budget the Construction Team led by Cindy Davis and Jim Wilson went into action and the way in way in which our house began to appear before our eyes was impressive not withstanding delays due to bad weather. Both the interior and exterior finishes were exactly as promised, the budget was met to the letter and overseen by Accounts Manager Cherie, importantly there were no surprises. The efficiency of Cindy in ensuring a flow of product to enable Jim to manage the construction of our house in an equally efficient manner was impressive in contrast to the builder of a neighbour’s house who had internal doors delivered when the frame had not been put up.

What made this a special experience:

The exceptionally high standard of customer service from ‘all’ staff members from Jessica on reception through to Directors Shaun and Brent; clearly there are staff members we’ve not mentioned but having worked as a strategic planning consultant with some of Australia’s better known businesses for many years I can say without equivocation that the Southern Highlands Hotondo Builder is one of the best teams I’ve ever come across and they are certainly A Great Find for anyone wanting a new home. We enjoyed our interactions with this Great Find and if asked to label the culture of this Find we would use descriptors like – committed to building value homes, honest and genuine in their dealings, very likeable to interact with in fact this ‘team’ made the experience for us ‘enjoyable’; for example when we first went into our new home the bathrooms had been loaded up with toiletries and towels just in case we’d forgotten some of these essential items
