Denied the screening of a movie exposing the genderside of over 200millon girls worldwide. Saying it was not in their brand to do so. Being a man with a young daughter I strongly disagree companies who do not do their best to stop this or deny it exists. They did reverse their decision due to massive backlash from the public. This just proves hoyts is all GOLD OVER GRACE

My heart goes out to anyone that has unfortunately received a HOYTS GIFT CARD and the card has expired. HOYTS make a point that they offer their customers a 28-day grace period but the reality is they are pocketing the $$$ without providing a service. transaction is bordering on disgraceful (and don't forget that HOYTS still benefits from a $50 gift card that was purchased 3 years and 28 days ago at today's prices). Thank goodness there are alternatives available

I went to Hoyts Garden City today to watch Wuthering heights. The ticket said cinema 6. After it was clear to me that another Movie had started I went out and spoke to the girls, they then said oops and sent me to cinema 8 where it was clear another movie was in process. Absolutely disgusting. We came in at the beginning of the session to find the seats filthy, greasy, and still containing popcorn kernels from the previous session. Given the fortune spent, we expect basic cleanliness.

Hoyts I don't come to the movies to be blasted with politics. Australians voted 2-1 against racism in the Voice Referendum two years ago, why do you continue with a racist recognition of country. I'm a sixth generation Australian who would like my family recognised as equal Australians, not subordinate Australians. Show some respect for all Australians please.

Hoyts GreenHills NSW, East Maitland I have been coming here since Hoyts was built, we were pleased in the beginning but quality and service has severely deteriorated over recent years. I have numerously approached staff of how poor the amenities and the condition of the cinemas as you can see with the picture provided, this is 90% of all chairs… Read more

in all the cinemas including lux ( Gold Class )

I find it disgusting that prices have gone up for tickets and food customers pay to enjoy and expect to have a good experience but the seats are disgusting half of them don’t work with the reclining.

Cost of living is through the roof and they can’t even repair and maintain seats and the number system is terrible many customers have trouble figuring out the seats numbers?

Why don’t the numbers be put on the head rest of the seat to clearly show the allocated seat number.

I have numerously approached the cinema with our concerns with the poor quality of the cinemas and we get dismissed highly disappointed and disgusted with how much Hoyts charge for movie tickets and food and especially in LUX

We will be moving on to another cinema Highly recommend not going you will Waste your money!

I attended Hoyts at Tweed Heads recently after moving up from Melbourne. To my extreme gratitude they offer discount tickets to DVA Gold Card members. Unlike Event cinemas that only offer discounts to veterans who are so incapacitated they cannot attend the cinema! Shame on Event Cinemas for not supporting our troops. Show details

School Excursion – Our recent excursion to see "Inside Out 2" at Hoyts Cinema in Warwick was an outstanding experience from start to finish. Organising the trip for our 14 special needs students was incredibly smooth, thanks to the prompt and helpful communication from the Hoyts staff. Every inquiry was answered within two hours, and the staff guided us through the… Read more

entire process with patience and clarity.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the Manager, Willow, who made our day extra special. She led us to our private cinema, where she had thoughtfully set up a drink and popcorn cart for the students. This personal touch made the experience even more enjoyable for everyone.

After the movie, Willow graciously took the time to answer questions from our Year 9 students about working at the cinema. Her patience and professionalism were greatly appreciated, and it made a lasting impression on our students.

We can't wait to plan our next excursion with Hoyts Cinema in Warwick and will be recommending this fantastic experience to everyone we know. Thank you, Hoyts, for creating such a memorable day for our students!

Very disappointing experience with HOYTS’ handling of its paid VIP membership program. HOYTS reduced the value of a paid VIP membership by cutting the points earn rate after customers had already paid, without clearly explaining the change. The email announcing the change was vague and required customers to dig through lengthy terms and conditions… Read more

to understand that benefits were being reduced.

What makes this worse is how difficult HOYTS is to contact. There is no clear escalation pathway, no effective customer service channel for complaints, and no meaningful way to speak to someone with authority. Emails are acknowledged and then ignored, with no follow-up or resolution.

When I raised a formal complaint and asked for a simple, reasonable remedy (honouring the original benefits or a pro-rata refund), HOYTS said they would respond and then failed to do so. I have not received a substantive response since December.

What’s most disappointing isn’t just the downgrade of a paid service, but the complete failure to engage with a legitimate complaint. It feels like HOYTS’ strategy is to ignore customers in the hope they’ll give up.

This could have been resolved easily and professionally. Instead, it has required escalation to consumer regulators. Not the way loyal, paying customers should be treated.

We bought our tickets online so we went to the food counter to get choc tops. We were ignored for 5 mins while a guy served people and eventually I asked him how I ordered. He said i had to line up in the other line. The line was long and I had already wasted time waiting. It was so frustrating all we wanted was some choc tops, we had our tickets.… Read more

There were no signs directing us on what to do and while we waited in the other line he stood there doing nothing. It was badly managed and the process needs to be reviewed.

I recently went to hoyts for the first time since covid as I had been given a $50 gift card for my birthday near the end of 2022. a memorial service. And going through probate and of course my 15yr old son. Getting him through VCE which he's just passed well. So I get to hoyts and they tell me the voucher has expired. I contacted their customer service department and explained my situation. Their response was completely baffling to me. They didn't mention anything about my circumstances and they just spouted the company policy and that it clearly states when you buy a voucher that it expires in 3 years. I don't believe gift cards that they say if you lose it it's like cash so it's bad luck. So it never should expire as it's just like cash this is a big business way to steal everyday good people's money and to not even acknowledge my personal situation was disgusting to me.

Customer Service Feedback – Hoyts Belconnen, Canberra (31 December 2025) I am writing to provide feedback regarding a disappointing customer service experience at Hoyts Belconnen on 31 December 2025, during an evening session with an advertised start time of 8:45 pm. At approximately 8:35 pm, I approached the wine bar to place an order. I said… Read more

to the young female staff member serving, “I’d like to make an order, please.” She responded that “this till is almost going to be closed because we close at 8:45,” and advised that if I wanted to purchase anything I would need to go to “the till down there,” adding, “you’d better hurry because we have a strict policy and the till will close at 8:45.”

I went to the other till as directed and asked to order a wine. The young male staff member there told me that wine orders had to be placed “back up at the wine bar.” My partner proceeded to pay for other items, and I returned to the wine bar.

When I arrived back, the young female staff member and another staff member were behind the bar in the kitchen area. Two other customers and I waited for several minutes. I eventually called out “Hello” to indicate people were waiting. When she came out, I again said, “I’d like to order a wine, please.” She replied, “The bar is closed and this till is closed now -we close at 8:45.”

I explained that I had been there moments earlier and had been sent to the other till to place the order, asking whether the bar had been closed then. She replied, “No, but now it is closed,” and reiterated that the bar and till close at 8:45.

I expressed that this felt like sloppy communication, given I had followed her instructions and returned promptly. Unfortunately, there was little engagement or acknowledgement, and I left feeling dissatisfied and dismissed.

While the young male staff member at the other till was polite and tried to be helpful, he appeared unsure about several basic questions when we were finalising our purchases.

I appreciate that staff need to close and tidy up at the end of service. However, being able to access advertised facilities before closing time is part of the Hoyts customer experience, particularly when customers arrive well before the stated cutoff and follow staff directions. The interaction gave the impression that service was being avoided rather than managed clearly and professionally.

I would encourage Hoyts to consider a refresher or review of customer service expectations, particularly for younger or less experienced staff, including clearer communication around cut-off times and a more customer-focused approach in the final minutes of service.

The experience of the movie and comfortable D Box seats was great. I have long enjoyed going to Hoyts and hope to keep paying for these experiences.

The worst e-voucher booking process I have ever experienced. ABSOLUTE SCAM. For normal tickets a $1.75 booking fee (why charge people to use YOUR product - ridiculous). HOWEVER, use a voucher and you are charged $3.40!!!!!!! per voucher. WHY!!!!!!! You already have the money. Never again. The to add insult to injury, a 600ml Pepsi $8. This is why no one goes to the movies anymore. Went to Broadway Saturday night - virtually empty. Show details

Tonight I saw Tron Ares at Melbourne Central, Screen X. I’ve recently had a very disappointing experience with Hoyts regarding one of their e-gift cards. Due to genuine circumstances, I misplaced the card and was unable to use it before the expiry date. When I reached out to Hoyts (only shortly after expiry) to request a revalidation, the response I received was very rigid and unempathetic. The local… Read more

cinema staff declined to assist and directed me to contact head office. Communication there was limited to standard, copy-paste responses, with no willingness to review the situation on its merits or to escalate further. This approach felt very dismissive and inconsiderate, especially given that the gift card was purchased in good faith and represented real money already paid to Hoyts.

In contrast, I’ve found most retailers across New Zealand and Australia willing to work with customers in similar situations, showing flexibility and care. Hoyts’ refusal to do so — coupled with the difficulty of reaching any senior decision-makers — has left me with the impression that they are not customer-centric and that they benefit unfairly when customers cannot use prepaid funds.

Based on this experience, I would caution others against purchasing Hoyts gift cards or relying on their loyalty products. Reliable brands should value goodwill and customer relationships — unfortunately, Hoyts has not lived up to that standard.

Went to Hoyts Eastland. Downsides: utterly hostile design of the snack bar. No pricing on the items themselves, and staff profess not to know the prices either. Just a small plaque on the wall. And the prices themselves are rapacious. $11.50 for a small box of popcorn (they call it "large" but in reality it is tiny). Wound up spending more than… Read more

$65 for a popcorn, four ice-creams, and four drinks.

Upsides: cinema was clean, seats very comfy and adjustable. Screen large, sound good.

Do yourself a favour and visit a friendly local (like Cameo in Belgrave), or save your money on snacks and go for a nice treat afterwards.

Do not buy any snacks from Hoyts. There is no pricing at snack bar self serve. Extremely over priced when you go to pay and very average. Be prepared for at least 16 x advertisements/in-house messages and promos. I’d recommend arriving 15 mins late. The term ‘Corporate Grifting for shareholders’ comes to mind. Give Hoyts a miss. Show details

was faulty and did not recline correctly. The ladies toilets did not have toilet paper. My wife advised staff prior to the movie commencing and was told that a female staff would be needed to go into the toilet. When the movie finished 3 hours later the ladies toilets still had no toilet paper. A line of women resulted waiting for paper. My wife and the ladies were each given a roll of toilet paper? We ordered food, spring rolls and mac n cheese bites. They were served during the movie, however they were luke-warm and the spring rolls had a horrible taste. We could not consume all of them. We were looking forward in going to Lux for the first time and were very disappointed in our experience.

Nosferatu Sucks and so do Hoyts! – Hoyts Cinema Stafford QLD Attended 26/01/25 To begin with we booked our seats online with E-Vouchers, which were Christmas gifts. Specifically the "Ultimate Movie Package" voucher which includes snacks. "Xtremescreen" session of Nostferatu. Also, apparently E-Voucher tickets are only adult tickets so there is no ability to use a student concession, so once again out of pocket.

We arrive at the cinema and grab some snacks. Unfortunately our voucher didn't specify what we were entitled to and the staff didn't seem to know either. The staff had no capability to scan the voucher and tell us how much we could spend. Thankfully a quick Google search told us what the staff couldn't and we didn't have to spend anymore.

Finally we head into the cinema to me met with an obvious stench. The men's toilet had blocked and overflowed into the foyer. You could clearly see the wet carpet and the men's toilet was closed. Stafford cinemas only has one men's toilet so a trip out into the shopping centre was required to find a convenience.

One had to ask why the cinema was even open without a functioning toilet and obvious sewage in the foyer. I would suggest that being Australia Day the cost of getting a plumber out was considered too expensive. Customers can just suffer I guess.

Needless to say I won't be attending Hoyts ever again. For the cost of that little adventure I can pay for several months of streaming Netflix.

counter to be told they had made a mistake and directed us to the wrong cinema, they gave me new directions to the correct cinema causing us to miss at least 15 minutes of the start of the film. No apology, but instead said, you only missed two minutes. The recliner seats didn't work on two seats making the experience very uncomfortable for my old granny bones. Emailed my complaint and was told I should have checked my tickets, which of course weren't able to be printed because their printer didn't work. Why would I have checked even if it did, Why would I feel the need to check a staff members directions. Rude, inconsiderate and will only ever go to Event cinema's from now on. At the outrageous price of tickets at Hoyts, that's got to hurt their bottom line.

Expensive tickets – If you would like to go the movies I wouldn't recommend coming here because their tickets are extremely expensive, the seats are extremely uncomfortable and the popcorn tastes like rubber.
