Hyundai should be banned from Australia – Catastrophic Engine failure at 75000klms & Hyundai don't care. We had this car feom brand new & driven by me. I loved this car & it was in immaculate condition & serviced on time or before everytime. Please, please rethink Hyundai or Kia it will just give you financial stress & heartache. Worst customer service or non existent service. If I could give a minus it would be -1000. Dealerships should be ashamed of themselves. Show details
Crap company – I have a elderly parent who owns a 2011 i35 elite auto the gearbox went after 130000 replaced under warranty now the diff has gone after 170000 unfortunately not under warranty looking at big bucks to replace it Hyundai won't come to the party to help fix it I no it's out of warranty it's only got 170000 on it as the car has been driven so… Read more
carefully (aka driving miss daisy) always serviced on the dot what a bloody crap company they dont give a damn dont buy from Hyundai there vehicles are crap
EXCELLENT! – I bought a brand new IX35 back in June 2011. It is one of the best cars I have ever owned. It’s the Petrol Elite model. Have got around 6.5litres/km since new. Took 10,000km before this good consumption started. It hasn’t missed a beat since new. I do though get it regularly serviced by Hyundai at the regular recommended intervals. A new… Read more
battery and 2 sets of tyres are the only things I have ever had to replace.
The car has now done $152000km and it has started raising in full consumption since about 140,000km.
I’m now getting Approx 9litres/km which is far too much.
Time to trade it in I think. It’s given me 7 years of perfect driving trust. Has never let me down.
It’s a shame they’ve been discontinued. Although I think the Tucson has replaced it.
I’m thinking the Kona will be my next Hyundai.
I owned a Hyundai Excel before the IX35 and my pRtner has an I20.
All of these cars have been perfect and never gave us a problem whatsoever.
That’s 18yrs of very happy Hyundai driving.
Highly recommend an Hyundai.
Love all the extras – I was looking for a family car that would fit my 11 month old and everything that comes with having a toddler, after lots of searching I decided on the ix35. Pros -Comfortable car to sit in -Love the dual temperature controls -I surprising like the keyless entry/start and how I don't have to hunt around in my bag to find a key -Think it was… Read more
added aftermarket but my favourite things about the car is Bluetooth audio streaming :)
Cons
-It's not quite as big as I'd have liked and the boot is smaller depth wise than my old ve Holden
-I'm unsure if it's the tyres or the car but it's actually rather uncomfortable off the main road, seem to feel every little bump
Overall though I am very happy and looking forward to driving it for many years to come.
Decent car - no hassle, no frills – I don't really care about cars and so this is a good option for me. It works well, low cost and had a decent spec. It's now 6 years old and still running "like new" according to the mechanic yesterday. Fuel economy is not the greatest but it's not bad for an SUV. I try to keep it to 10 L/100km. Very hard to get it under. Quite easy to get it above 12 if you drive poorly.. Show details
Absolutely Average For Resale and Hard To Sell – This was my wife's car, the Elite AWD automatic version with all the bells and whistles. Purchased brand new in 2012 for over $30k and recently sold it for $12k with only 61,000 km's ($20k loss) The crazy thing is, you see dealers and private sellers asking well over $20 - $25k yet try and sell one yourself and you will be disappointed. We used… Read more
all the car selling websites etc over 5 months and we only had 9 enquiries, 2 inspections and that's it. As for a trade in, we were offered $9,000. Eventually a girl saw the car for sale on the side of the road and the rest is history. Definitely a good buy at $12k, but don't pay more unless you expect to keep it for 10 years as you will find it hard to sell.
good suv but!!!!!!! – went from a Toyota rav 4 to ix35 suspension better on rav 4 but it was along wheel base { to big and a lot of wasted space for mum and dad } the tyres needed replacing at 40000 and ive just had the 60000 service done now I have to replace the discs and pads ,all of these should last a lot longer however I would purchase another if they were still… Read more
in production the tuscon is a larger carso we will look around economical ; plenty of towing power {diesel } comfy to drive apart from suspension
Brake Rotors and Pads – I also experienced a similar issue regarding brake problems.. at a 35,000 Kms service I was advised from the Hyundai dealership workshop I was up for front rotors and pads as they were worn below limits and were not machinable and would not last until next service?? Having worked in workshops most of my working life I queried this and saying that… Read more
did they think I drove around with my foot on the brake!! The reply was not to be alarmed as they have replaced some at 15,000 Kms so mine is not too bad!!.. to which my response was that obviously there is a rotor problem as material must be too soft for that sort of wear! Consequently I had to get them to replace them (cost around $600) however I wanted the old parts back to check myself..
Further down the track at a later service I got the same run-around regarding the rear brakes this time and told them don't bother I will get them done later..however on picking the car up I was advised at the service desk that the rear were ok for now and so no drama.. funny that as I wonder how many customers give in when this is advised early in the proceedings??
I like it – I bought my ix35 18 months ago and have done only 30,000km. In that time the only thing to go wrong with it was the plastic grab in the boot lid came off. The dealer told me when I bought the car that I would be lucky to get 30,000km out of my tyres but I still have at least another 40,000km of wear left and my brake pads are at 50% after my last… Read more
service. I never liked Hyundais before I bought this one but it has to be the best car I have ever owned and at 64 years old I have owned a few.
I have now done 60,000 km and have replaced my tyres, I put Continental's on. They have a softer compound than the Kumos so I don't get that hard ride and they are better in the wet, also a bit cheaper. Replaced my brake pads with Bendix pads and now don't have a problem with brake dust on the mags. The faux leather on the steering wheel started to rub off but the dealer replaced it with no bother at all under warranty. Everything
ix35 Elite 2011 - Overall a good car but quite dissapointed about the brake issue – 2011 purchase - elite model. Has been a great car, drives well, good space, economical to run until the 30,000 service when we've been told much like other people that the front and rear brake pads need replacing along with the front rotors... this seems disgraceful that at 30,000 they admit to the rotors being international grade and soft for… Read more
oz conditions and not under warranty. We've been quoted over $800 our Hyundai dealer and are trying to source elsewhere this week before having to pay that price; follow the $400 service fee it's a lot to ask! I think it's a great car, provided you build this into your budget. Having previously moved from a VW we'd hoped the maintenance cost of the ix would be less but now it's unlikely. Looks like next time we'll actually go with the Rav4 we were comparing this too. Reliable, comfortable, easy to drive Bad service warranty, issues with break pads and rotors
hyundai 2012 elite – we brought new we had problems with window x2 both on passenger side now fixed recently good car on fuel around town and long distance drivers seat could have more comfort dealership was really good very happy with salesman and very happy with services and recent windows fixed Show details
Love this car – We have had our ix35 Elite diesel for four years now and we love it. We were after a car to suit a young family and the extras included with the ix35 was what won us over. It looks great, drives well and is very roomy. The keyless entry and push button start are a fantastic feature for a busy Mum juggling shopping and a baby. I can't comment on… Read more
the petrol version but the 2.0 turbo diesel is powerful but economical, we usually get between 7.5 and 8.5L/100km. Like many others, we had to replace the brake pads at 45000km due to softer brakes made for European conditions but this would not deter us from buying the car again, just factor this extra cost in when doing the budget. The clock on the radio is also never correct, it is always gaining time however not something that irritates me too much. Overall Hyundai have made a great car and we are seriously considering upgrading to the Santa Fe as the family expands.
Have a ix35 diesel elite awd 2012 – Has all the features, and runs well, It has the harshest ride due to the suspension being too ridged.I do believe the 2014 mod. has been modified to give a softer ride.Being from NSW Mid Nth Coast I am interested to know if there is anybody (possibly in Sydney) doing suspension modifications to give a softer ride. Know better, choose better.
Not bad, not great - systemic faults are annoying – We've had the car passing 12 months. A 2012 model IX35 Elite, petrol. We sold a 2013 model diesel Santa-Fe Highlander to down-size from the larger bouncier car. Most of our driving is highway KM's from country town to city. We've experienced the same kinds of faults that are well known on this model. The rear sensors go off when… Read more
there's nothing there (when reversing) and this is random. The time on the clock-radio system never keeps and if you could be bothered, you'd have to set it every time you get in the car. Both are known issues and at next service we intend to ensure Hyundai follow this up with "at no cost" replacements or repair.
Petrol efficiency seems very lousy. The much larger Santa Fe (diesel) was far more powerful and far more efficient by comparison. It's only a 50l tank in this IX35 and for our kind of driving it only gives 8.8l per 100 at a minimum, frequently going over. A recent report from an Auto magazine I read (Sept 2014) shows the iX35 as the lousiest of 5 tested vehicles in a similar group of cars. So this isn't something older IX35's contend with.
If you have reason to stop your car and wait for kids, but want the radio / stereo to keep playing when you turn the car off. It doesn't. We've had 4-5 cars and this is the only one that makes you turn the car electrics back on (with button press) to play the radio again. Our way around it is to leave the car in gear, turn car off, radio stays on, put car in Park. Shouldn't have to do these kinds of small things. Overall, we like the look, its comfortable, no technical issues beyond those small things mentioned and it has a decent feature set. Small annoying electronic issues
does the job perfectly – I bought Oct 2010 Ix35 diesel elite after a lot of research. We towed a small van. Very good economy towing, plus the great torque for overtaking and hills. First two services with Hyundai, since then I have bought gen .parts on line and the oil {8 litres a pop), synthetic specials at supercheap 10litres}. Save yourself some money get you local… Read more
mechanic for labour and book stamp. We now dont tow but I am still keeping the car, just clocked 50k, 3 & 1/2 years just bought new battery, tyres still at least 20k, only problem was brake switch/start control button- recall fault -warranty, 2 hour job. Brakes- mechanic said skim and pads on front at 60k service.........cant complain about that. Even have side steps , wife is short, bought off net in Brisbane $300 and fitted myself, took my time about 4 & 1/2 hours on my back, but I have not seen any more around, finishes it off a treat. Also got my Hayman Towbar fitted after, dont buy factory dealer stuff unless you have a fat wallet fuel economy towing performance, economic to own if you dont use dealers start switch recall- warranty job
Good Car But Has Its Issues – We bought this car in early August 2011 and we have driven nearly 25000 kms.(Hyundai Elite) Pros: Mileage-8-9L/100km Good Interior Space Excellent Driver Seats Keyless Entry Cons: As mentioned by others- Bluetooth and Clock has its issues-Has been replaced by a new one without any issues Breaks were squeaking -were replaced with brand… Read more · 5

Poor! – [censored word removed]! I bought a new IX35 Elite Petrol Feb 2011. Just prior to the 6 month service the car began blaring each time I had it in reverse & the horn didn't work one day. The clock is fast (not accurate, gains time) needs reseting. Less than 9 months on since buying the car, it began to overheat, got towed to Keema service… Read more
centre. There was a known (since sept 2011) faulty part which didn't let fluid into the radiator & oil into the transmission. I was without a car for more than 1 1/2 weeks as a new radiator & transmission had to come from Korea. After complaining was offerred loan vehicle with a $2500 excess or I pay $35 a day which would cover it. So my car got a new radiator, transmission, clock & 1 reverse sensor.
Feb 2012 - 1 yr old - needed clock replaced again - same reason.
March 2012 - reverse sensor played up (waited 5 days for an appointment) took it in for a day & they replaced 1 reverse sensor. 2 days later played up again, now I have to wait 11 days for an appointment. Apparently under warranty, they can only replace one sensor at time. There's 4 sensors & a modular, so I could be taking it back 5 times before the problem is fixed. Great car! Great customer service! the shape everything else
