Been a great car but faulty window buttons – I bought the car from the lot - as a demo car. It has been a great car. The only issue is - as soon as it come out of warranty I started having issues with the window buttons. An interesting it was the ones rarely used… they stopped working… over time all the window buttons stopped working, which was a pain if it happened with the window down, I… Read more

also had one of the motors in the window go… In the last year I have spent over $1000 to have my windows open or shut. The car is 10 years old! The car navigation couldn’t be used after it turned 5 as the screen touch doesn’t work properly…. And the reversing camera is very blurry. The steering wheel is deteriorating and driver seat is deteriorating too. The car has been well taken care of, all log book services Though I feel things are mechanically going to go wrong, as there are lots of new noises.

Very disappointed – I bought this car brand new. Ordered AWD with all options including $800 front sensor Car received is FWD,sensor is a disaster not factory added as expected. This type is available at Jaycay for just over $100. … Read more

Car was 27 months old and sound in radio ceased. Dealer said Bad luck radio only has 2 yr warranties. I phoned Hyundai and was told same. Subsequent visits to 3 auto electricians showed that all agreed that just the radio could not be replaced, and it would cost $900 for the necessary part. My car has been serviced regularly, now done 90,000 kms but 6 yrs with no radio or phone contact availability, and a ridiculous front sensor, along with the fact that I have to rent a 4WD or AWD to visit my late husbands grave have turned me off of Hyundai completely

Amazing to drive – We purchased a 2015 ix35 se model after selling our 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Can certainly notice the difference from the 1.8 lt Elantra to the 2.0 lt ix35… perfect height to feel Safe on the road. Feels so comfortable to drive around town but is equally as good on long trips… only issue like So so many people have, is the stereo…. No sound… tried… Read more

everything I possibly could to rectify without having to remove it but I’m led to believe it is a Hardware issue that requires a repair by a specialist. Waiting on quote price for this as I do like these stereos and love the recording function. Aside From this minor fault it’s an amazing car that I highly recommend to anyone!

Serious battery drain issue – Hyundai IX 35 SE (late 2015 model) (Renamed Tucson) Serious battery drain issue: Updated: Latest update 19/10 Hyundai Customer Care has been polite and helpful (after a slight delay) and some communication is now taking place, working towards identifying the issue by the dealership. The Hyundai Dealer concerned has also expressed his intention… Read more

to see if this issue can be addressed to reach a solution. However, a real commitment to solve the problem has yet to be agreed.

This is a copy of the communication to Hyundai, Who I am yet to hear from! (See above update)

Hi (Hyundai Customer Care Officer) I do understand you can’t diagnose by email. However, further to our last communication: (A little bit of personal info has been edited)

Today we just needed to go to the Hospital for an 11am appointment with my Surgeon, for a consent to proceed meeting. I am having major surgery on Friday morning.

Unfortunately today the car once again had a flat battery(probably around the 20th time in 2 years). It had been charged overnight to full last Saturday (as suggested by the RAC), by battery charger and we travelled 100 km on Sunday. Then used the car on Mon, Tuesday and Wednesday locally but not Thursday. We called out the Hyundai Roadside Support today who sent out RAC. So the battery has gone flat again in less than 48 hours. They (RAC) said it looks like a drain issue as clearly the battery is flat and shouldn’t be. So we are again told that the battery seems fine and is charging well with the engine running. It had a new battery in Jan of this year, the 2nd one within 2 years. Stop Press Today! 18/10, RAC have changed the battery again! (Good Will Gesture and the 3rd new battery in approximately 2years) After 20 minutes of the car being locked up the RAC amp meter still shows a drain of 0.38 Amps which is no good at all, Hyundai previously advised a normal drain was around 0.03 AMPS. (RAC stated that a drain of up to 0.05 AMPS may be acceptable)

So we have this Hyundai thats noticeably had this issue ‘continuously’ (documented) since it was just over 3 1/2 years old and under warranty. All services completed by Hyundai (Except for Emergency battery replacement by RAC who are your road side assistance provider anyway)

It’s just had its 6th year service (early) and has completed only 49,427 km and is Now out of warranty. This car is totally like new except it is totally unreliable and it seems that your Hyundai Dealership is incapable of fixing the issue. Yes the BCM has been changed but NO it has not fixed the issue. This car still gets a flat battery whenever it feels like it! The ACCC tells me it is reasonable to have expectations of reliability.

We have been unable to rely on this vehicle actually working, or even use it on many occasions for well over 2 years, since it completed around 30,000km (at which time it was well within its warranty period), which is absolutely unreasonable.

My wife will want to visit me in hospital close to 100km from our main residence. From next Friday and will have no confidence that this car will start when needed. We need a reliable vehicle especially now.

I will add that this car has never been in an accident and was purchased new by us. The car was fitted with a genuine Hyundai Dealer fitted tow bar prior to delivery (which has never been used). Otherwise it has no other ‘extras’.

We have otherwise been very happy with this vehicle, our first experience with Hyundai. To be frank, I would not even be comfortable selling this vehicle without ‘advertising’ the fact that it has this issue that so far Hyundai have been unable to rectify.

So the question is, what do Hyundai think would fair and reasonable? What is Hyundai prepared to do or not do?

As you can imagine we really do have other more serious issues to deal with right now and don’t want or need to have more formal unnecessary communications with the ACCC. Nor do we have any desire to proceed with formal legal representation with any tribunal. However, we do need to resolve this transport issue urgently and ultimately we will do whatever is necessary and I am completely out of patience.

I suggest that you elevate this matter if required, to whoever necessary in order to deal with this issue effectively and ensure we have a reliable Vehicle ASAP. Yours sincerely….

Any suggestions anyone?

Note: This car is driven regularly just like any vehicle we have owned, we have never experienced this issue with any other vehicle.

DANGEROUS CAR – I DON’T FEEL SAFE-I purchased a second hand IX35 SD 2015 model still in manufacturer’s warranty from a very reputable car yard or so i thought on the Gold Coast, I love the look of this car but do not feel safe driving it. Very competent, if not exciting – I took delivery of the ix35 as a work vehicle and didn't expect much. The interior was plasticky and the styling not to my taste. Initially, I did not want to like the car. However, after around 150,000km without a single glitch I am forced to admit that Hyundai did a decent job on the ix35. As an entry-level model, the Active was fairly basic… Read more

compared to its up-spec brethren and felt like a cheap hatchback on the inside. The kids didn't like the absence of A/C vents in the rear and felt as though they were sitting low in the car, which didn't help little tummies on twisty roads. The engine didn't promise much on paper, but in practice I found the 2.0 litre petrol to be perfectly sufficient. Sure, it's no ball of fire and didn't have the torque I expected, but as long as you're not used to powerful cars it's fine. Six speed auto was smooth and always found the right ratio. Fuel economy averaged about 9.5 L/100 in a mixture of light urban driving and a best of 7.4 l/100km on the highway. It's no sports car, but handling and braking were safe and adequate with the usual understeer and a slightly squishy brake pedal. It soaks up large bumps easily and felt confident on gravel roads. Noise is fairly well damped, but the engine got intrusive under load. The audio system was unremarkable but the radio got good reception in regional areas. Tyres (225/60R17 on steel wheels) lasted 90,000km and brakes were yet to be changed when I got rid of the car at about 150,000, making it cheap to run for its type. I found the seats not well suited to my (large-ish) body type on long trips. All up, the ix35 is a bit of a yawn, but will do everything the average driver will require of it dat-in day-out without anything falling off or giving undue concern. I should also point out that the customer service received when I had the car serviced was always excellent. (South Morang Hyundai)

My Hyundai IX35 - a great car! – I own the IX35 Trophy model - it is well equipped and meets my requirements admirably. A retiree, mostly I drive only myself and find the car very responsive, easy to park and manoeuvre in awkward places. I particularly like the elevated driving position which gives me excellent vision of the road and other vehicles around me. Plenty of creature… Read more

comforts included as standard with this model are very much appreciated and used. The CD player is a favourite - a feature no longer standard in more recent models.

I have been driving now for over 40 years - during that time owning a variety of cars from sedans, hatchbacks, station wagons to 4WDs I would without doubt say my IX35 is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have found my local Hyundai Dealer also provides excellent back up and service and with a 5 year warranty what more could you ask!

I should also mention the car is a little like the Tardis - on trips to the Doctor for my 95 year old Dad the car manages to fit 3 adults (myself, my brother and my Dad) a wheelchair plus all of Dad's travel necessities with space to spare. I was sorry the IX35 was discontinued with the arrival of Tuscon - a slightly larger SUV.

November 29th 2017 Update: 2014 Automatic IX35 Trophy - my preferred Hyundai SUV

I have reviewed my 2014 automatic Hyundai IX35 Trophy once before but I think an update now I have owned this vehicle for over 3 years is appropriate.

I originally bought this vehicle brand new in June 2014 - usually I would consider updating my car after 3 years but this time - no way!

The IX35 has been replaced by the larger Hyundai Tuscon and another SUV - the slightly smaller Hyundai Kona.

To match the standard of equipment in my current IX35 I would have to buy a much more expensive edition of either of the two SUV models now on offer from Hyundai.

I do not need a panoramic glass roof or additional air conditioning. Plus I can manage without a larger touch screen.

I do however, enjoy the comfortable leather upholstery, the folding rear vision mirrors, the standard rear camera/audio sensor system, the CD player plus many other extras fitted as standard to my vehicle. In addition, the IX35 is a medium sized SUV giving me a clearer view of the traffic when I am driving.

I do not do a daily commute so in just over 3 years & 5 months, the Odometer reading is less than 34,000 kms. What I am really pleased about is the further I drive my IX35 the better the petrol fuel economy becomes.

My IX35 may not be the latest model, but it still has 18 months of its original Warranty left. In the meantime it is a very reliable vehicle, just the right size for me!

Perfect family car! – After driving my mum's ix35, when my husband and I were shopping for our new family car, this was the one we instantly agreed on. We needed a car that was fuel efficient, reliable (I have a love for Hyundai) and could fit our growing family plus all the gear we would need for road trips and camping. The ix35 certainly doesn't disappoint. It is a really comfortable and smooth ride, plus good looking inside and out. We love it!  Show details

Faulty Engine – Purchased this vehicle in April 2015 - 6 years old now and the engine is failing. Hyundai customer service and warranty are useless and are ignoring me. The engine has signs of scoring causing excessive oil consumption, therefore requires a new short motor. Currently sits at 145,000km - 2 services were overdue but that was 2-3 years ago. The outside mirrors are curved giving the impression that the vehicle next to you is further back than it actually is, there are no warnings on the mirrors to indicate this.

Addendum. Since writing this review:

The car has now done over 100,000km, still going very well. It has developed a problem with the buttons (that I rarely use) on the steering wheel, maybe oxidation but either way very annoying. Developed a squeak from the rear sway bar (mechanic dabbed some grease on it, OK now).

Overall it is a great car, better than most cars I have driven.

love my ix35 highlander – drives like a car after long hours driving feel refreshed after getting out seats are comfortable great seating position , sure a lot of people complain about the brakes wearing out to soon but they do have a premium braking system and to achieve better braking something has to be sacrificed like pads are softer as well as discs, 26000klms never had a problem service costs are reasonable with fixed price servicing, would buy another tomorrow  Show details

Problem with Halo feature – We are generally happy with our car, it suits our needs perfectly. Since new (October 2014) we have experienced an intermittent problem with the Halo feature, both rear doors and boot remain locked although front doors are open. Nearly all electricals have been replaced but the problem remains unsolved at this point in time.  Show details
