Amazing to drive – We purchased a 2015 ix35 se model after selling our 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Can certainly notice the difference from the 1.8 lt Elantra to the 2.0 lt ix35… perfect height to feel Safe on the road. Feels so comfortable to drive around town but is equally as good on long trips… only issue like So so many people have, is the stereo…. No sound… tried… Read more
everything I possibly could to rectify without having to remove it but I’m led to believe it is a Hardware issue that requires a repair by a specialist. Waiting on quote price for this as I do like these stereos and love the recording function. Aside From this minor fault it’s an amazing car that I highly recommend to anyone!
Serious battery drain issue – Hyundai IX 35 SE (late 2015 model) (Renamed Tucson) Serious battery drain issue: Updated: Latest update 19/10 Hyundai Customer Care has been polite and helpful (after a slight delay) and some communication is now taking place, working towards identifying the issue by the dealership. The Hyundai Dealer concerned has also expressed his intention… Read more
to see if this issue can be addressed to reach a solution. However, a real commitment to solve the problem has yet to be agreed.
This is a copy of the communication to Hyundai, Who I am yet to hear from! (See above update)
Hi (Hyundai Customer Care Officer) I do understand you can’t diagnose by email. However, further to our last communication: (A little bit of personal info has been edited)
Today we just needed to go to the Hospital for an 11am appointment with my Surgeon, for a consent to proceed meeting. I am having major surgery on Friday morning.
Unfortunately today the car once again had a flat battery(probably around the 20th time in 2 years). It had been charged overnight to full last Saturday (as suggested by the RAC), by battery charger and we travelled 100 km on Sunday. Then used the car on Mon, Tuesday and Wednesday locally but not Thursday. We called out the Hyundai Roadside Support today who sent out RAC. So the battery has gone flat again in less than 48 hours. They (RAC) said it looks like a drain issue as clearly the battery is flat and shouldn’t be. So we are again told that the battery seems fine and is charging well with the engine running. It had a new battery in Jan of this year, the 2nd one within 2 years. Stop Press Today! 18/10, RAC have changed the battery again! (Good Will Gesture and the 3rd new battery in approximately 2years) After 20 minutes of the car being locked up the RAC amp meter still shows a drain of 0.38 Amps which is no good at all, Hyundai previously advised a normal drain was around 0.03 AMPS. (RAC stated that a drain of up to 0.05 AMPS may be acceptable)
So we have this Hyundai thats noticeably had this issue ‘continuously’ (documented) since it was just over 3 1/2 years old and under warranty. All services completed by Hyundai (Except for Emergency battery replacement by RAC who are your road side assistance provider anyway)
It’s just had its 6th year service (early) and has completed only 49,427 km and is Now out of warranty. This car is totally like new except it is totally unreliable and it seems that your Hyundai Dealership is incapable of fixing the issue. Yes the BCM has been changed but NO it has not fixed the issue. This car still gets a flat battery whenever it feels like it! The ACCC tells me it is reasonable to have expectations of reliability.
We have been unable to rely on this vehicle actually working, or even use it on many occasions for well over 2 years, since it completed around 30,000km (at which time it was well within its warranty period), which is absolutely unreasonable.
My wife will want to visit me in hospital close to 100km from our main residence. From next Friday and will have no confidence that this car will start when needed. We need a reliable vehicle especially now.
I will add that this car has never been in an accident and was purchased new by us. The car was fitted with a genuine Hyundai Dealer fitted tow bar prior to delivery (which has never been used). Otherwise it has no other ‘extras’.
We have otherwise been very happy with this vehicle, our first experience with Hyundai. To be frank, I would not even be comfortable selling this vehicle without ‘advertising’ the fact that it has this issue that so far Hyundai have been unable to rectify.
So the question is, what do Hyundai think would fair and reasonable? What is Hyundai prepared to do or not do?
As you can imagine we really do have other more serious issues to deal with right now and don’t want or need to have more formal unnecessary communications with the ACCC. Nor do we have any desire to proceed with formal legal representation with any tribunal. However, we do need to resolve this transport issue urgently and ultimately we will do whatever is necessary and I am completely out of patience.
I suggest that you elevate this matter if required, to whoever necessary in order to deal with this issue effectively and ensure we have a reliable Vehicle ASAP. Yours sincerely….
Any suggestions anyone?
Note: This car is driven regularly just like any vehicle we have owned, we have never experienced this issue with any other vehicle.
Best Car Ever! – Brought this in 2015 Lovely interior, and really nice shape body. I've lived in mainly the country areas, now coastal. No problem very reliable plenty of grunt, especially to over take trucks. Its very good on fuel ,costs me slightly more in fuel in comparison to my last Suzuki Swift. Feels well balanced on the road. Has full sized spare tyre ,… Read more
unlike some new SUVs. I have had a bad back, seats suit me well with adjustable lumber support. Oh and heated seats front &back, didn't think i would use but boy was i wrong. Glove box has a cooler feature from air conditioning super handy in hot weather.
DANGEROUS CAR – I DON’T FEEL SAFE-I purchased a second hand IX35 SD 2015 model still in manufacturer’s warranty from a very reputable car yard or so i thought on the Gold Coast, I love the look of this car but do not feel safe driving it. After only about 3 weeks of owning it the car broke down in a shopping center while I was trying to reverse It just died ,… Read more
everything shut down in the middle of the thoroughfare, after getting abused by everyone and me trying to start it for about 5-10 mins it finally started so I then started to drive again and it did exactly the same thing just stopped I had to get it pushed back into a car park to get out of everyone way, I called the card yard that I purchased it from they advised me to get a tow truck organised, I went mental at them They had it in the work shop for 1 week but could not find any fault, they said that they took it to Hyundai who also couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Yesterday my husband was driving it and it did exactly the same thing only this time it stopped in the middle of a two lane busy intersection, we had to pushed it to the side of the road, called the car yard who advised probably bad fuel what rubbish!!!!! This is absolute rubbish, I have read reviews where this is a common issue, this car is dangerous this could have been a lot worse we could have been in a bad accident what would have happened if I was on the freeway and it stopped with no steering going at 100klm.
I love this car - super satisfied – I bought this car new in 2013. It is so quiet and such a smooth ride. It is very spacious, particularly legroom, and the seats are very comfy. The seat warmer is great for cold Melbourne winters. Servicing at Essendon Hyundai has been a good experience but I did have one bad experience at Hyundai Roxburgh Park when they told me I needed a wheel… Read more
alignment as they had analysed wear on my tyres. I declined as I had 4 brand new tyres fitted only 4 weeks prior. 7 years roadside assistance is great to have though I only needed it once recently when I had a flat battery. I’ve had several friends keen to buy an ix35 after riding in mine, and two ended up buying Tucson because the ix35 is discontinued, replaced by the slightly larger Tucson. Road test it - you will love it.
Could be better – Radio cuts out completely , and just goes blank with no sound. Passenger window does not go down , I have to use the drivers side to put it down. It does go up from the passenger with though. Great to drive though never had an issue with that. Love the interior Show details
These best car I have owned – I am so happy I went with the ix35 over the rav4 and cx5. It get great millage and Hyundai have been amazing with warranties and servicing. The diesel is also amazingly punchy when needed. I would not be surprised if my next car was a Hyundai as well. 5 Stars Show details
A total waste of money and terrible customer care – To drive this vehicle is good and I like all the options HOWEVER since I bought this car in September 2015, it has had a replacement engine, 6 days after getting the car back from that the clutch exploded (mechanics word for what happend), gearbox (this needed replacing because of the shards of metal entering the housing after the clutch exploded)… Read more
and passenger seat sensor. 18 months down the track and the NEW engine has an oil leak that needs replacing and the NEW clutch needs the Duel mass flywheel replacing. I wrote a letter to Hyundai Head Office in Sydney and they stone walled my calls after that. With the new issues with this car, they are once again refusing to enter into conversation about resolving this issue by refunding or replacing the vehicle.
IX 35 SE – I love my car!!! I bought it in October 2014. Still haven't had any trouble at all. So nice to drive, no weird noises, love the interior, mine has leather seats, seat heaters, the reverse camera is something I can't leave without anymore. The car is beautiful inside and out. The only thing I wish it had is a GPS, but you can plug in your phone and… Read more
listen to it through the car radio. Mine has lots of extra accessories that I don't even use it.
But when you buy a brand new car, ask how much the service cost. Mine is too expensive, and I have to do it where I bought or I lose the guarantee.
Update Sep 2018 - still going perfect, no problems at all.
Great car for wife and kid – Purchased this car in anticipation of our first baby. Wife wanted something a bit taller than her old Fiesta so it's easier to get bubs in and out. Can't fault it, very comfortable drive with great standard features. While the seats are pleather, it's still good for the baby, as any food they drop just wipes right off. Show details
Problem with Halo feature – We are generally happy with our car, it suits our needs perfectly. Since new (October 2014) we have experienced an intermittent problem with the Halo feature, both rear doors and boot remain locked although front doors are open. Nearly all electricals have been replaced but the problem remains unsolved at this point in time. Show details
Great little family car, so easy to get around in – I love everything about these cars, the way it drives, the interior looks flash, the heated seats, all the accessories that come with it and most of all its safety rating. I find it such a little reliable car and so easy to get in and out of places especially with children. I was so surprised how much power it had for a little 2.0l petrol engine. Would highly recommend this car for a small family, couple or single person. Show details
Great value and features – Features for dollars are well in front of equivalent vehicles. Driving is a pleasure for the driver and passengers. Rear seat warmers are a treat for passengers in winter. He dog loves his area in the back. Have moved from a Ford Focus to the IX35 and haven't looked back. Show details

Excellent vehicle and cannot der stand why it has been discontinued – 2014 Hyundai ix35 bought February 2015. First brand new vehicle purchased by myself. Easy to drive, smooth, handles well, great on fuel. I do not understand why Hyundai would discontinue this vehicle ax it ticks all the boxes. This vehicle isn't too be, but big enough to convey others around, lot of feet and leg room. I have not looked at the… Read more
vehicle they have replaced the ix35 with, it may be just as good as the ux35. Perhaps the ix35 sold far too many and Hyundai didn't want the market to be flooded with them!
Love my car! – Beautiful to drive. Purchased new diesel version and it is so cheap to run. All the mod cons like bluetooth, aux and USB connections, reverse camera, electronic adjustment of seats. Steering is great and parking a breeze. Servicing price is fixed and they drove me home and picked me up. Show details
Hyundai ix35 SE, manufacturing defects, poor fuel economy, useless customer service – Purchased in Aug 2014, my ix35 SE, has never reached its stated fuel economy. It slowly reduced, then following its first 1500 ks service, it now runs at 9.1 - 10.1 per 100 ks. In 2016, following its 2nd service and software update (yes probably like VW), it sits at 8.1 for local and long highway trips with almost no change. Aside from this, … Read more
several manufacturing defects were found, rear tail light cover only partly attached, hatch door rubbing paint from body-work and an ill-fitting driver's door, that would bounce open when closed (unless slammed). It's not that any of these defects were severe, it was the appalling way Hyundai so-called Customer Care and the dealerships, turned a simple fix into months of heartache. My local Hyundai service did nothing and due to the car's low kilometres another service centre also did very little of the service list... but charged full price. Actually they admitted pretty much nothing was done.
I now dread my warranty, knowing I can't escape their dodgy dealings. After scratching one of my factory-fitted painted wheel-rims, I was advised that Hyundai does not know the paint colour and refuse to find out. The advice (after three calls and being hung up on), was to have the paint colour-matched at my own expense or purchase a new rim. Who does that for a minor scratch? Again, to solve a simple problem, I am faced with time and expense, because Hyundai's customer service is appalling. Minor or major, any fault is given the usual unhelpful lip-service, backed up by the Hyundai service denying the problem or is imaginary. I am now weighing up the option of exiting their lacklustre dealer service.
The car is now in for its 3rd service (or 2nd after first free service). Tyres are to be rotated... but a balance is $43 extra (anything to screw more money from you). Unless the Cruise Control fault occurs during testing... it won't be fixed. It's probably a simple fix like the steering wheel switch... but again just drama. This is the same Hyundai service centre who refused to fix faults on car originally... and made out they did not exist. I don't take this personally, as I witnessed a woman being poorly treated when she reported a fault on her car (service rep and mechanic ganged up on her like bullies).
The Service Manager's retort summed it up well "if the CC caused an accident, Hyundai wouldn't be at fault... you would be for driving an unroadworthy vehicle".
"No care and no responsibility" should be the Hyundai marketing slogan.
So... as I thought the warranty is a complete farce. Hyundai treat all customers as a meal ticket to exploit. The focus is to get the money and do as little as possible.
Hyundai IX35 SE 2013 model – I bought a new IX35 SE 2013 model had no trouble for about 18months then was told to bring the car back for a recall something to do with airconditioning. Got my car back went for a drive and the aircon stopped working got home then found a pool of water under the car after a while. Took the car back to dealer they said it should be right now.… Read more
Went for a drive it was ok for the first part of the trip on the way back after about half an hour it stopped working again. I have the car booked in again for another go. So much for buying a new car and expecting no problems. I live on the Gold Coast and are limited to one dealer who treat you like a fool, I drove trucks buses and coaches for about 37 years I think I know when something is not working properly or not. Would not recommend these cars or this dealership.
What a nightmare ! Absolute lemon – I purchased a brand new ix35 SE diesel. $34000 in aug 2013. My problems started day 2. Aircon didn't work, nothing came through the vents at all. Leather seats and 41degree heat . Not happy. They apparently fixed that, then the leather in my drivers seat fell apart and had to be replaced. Then the aircon stopped working again. Then the back… Read more
seat had to be replaced.
After being in time after time, my car went back 9 times with the aircon not working and every time they told me it was fixed. Finally the 10th time , my car was in for 4 weeks, and it finally worked. All of this trouble, and hyundai did not show any care, I tried to get a new replacement and of course that was rejected.
Now,12 months later my aircon has failed again. No air comes through the vents at all. Popped the bonnet, and the a/c pip is totally frozen over by about 4mm of ice.
I will never buy a hyundai again, and I will always influence people not to buy one.
An absolute nightmare
What a luxury to own an ix35! – Bought a new ix35 and we don't have a single complain. It has everything you can ask for an SUV, comfort, style, reliability and durability. I feel like driving a luxury car indeed. So happy! Show details
Great car, exceeded my expectations and I don't repent buying a Korean car! – I was a little paranoid when buying my Hyundai ix35 special edition CRDI Diesel (2013) as I'd never owned a Korean car before. I love Japanese cars, but the value presented by the special edition model was too tempting. A 2.0 Turbo diesel AWD which is powerful yet economical and the price was not too expensive. Also had a lot of little extras like… Read more
heated seats, cooled glovebox, etc. So took the plunge and I'm very happy so far, it's been a great car. The only couple of things to note are it's quite noisy (although I've never owned a diesel car before so maybe they are all noisy) and the brakes sometimes make screeching noise especially when reversing on a downhill (the car's only 1.5 years old). Other than that a great car and I would definitely be considering more Korean cars in future if the deal is right :-)
A CAR FOR ALL SEASONS – We've done 30,000 km in the year. The car (diesel) is responsive, comfortable, roomy, economical and a joy to drive. I bought the bottom of the line in the SE (special edition). Didn't want sunroof. It tows our 900 kg avan very well. Gearbox (auto) is great. Leather seats (we generally don't like them or want them are actually quite good. Heated… Read more
front and rear seats aren't that important in Australia!! Fuel consumption around 6.5 - 7 in general. A/C played up initially but dealer fixed that although it did take a while. If it got totalled tomorrow, I figure I'd most likely buy another ix35. A great car! Even fits me bike in the back! Economy, pulling power of the diesel, comfortable seating Didn't have electric front seat... to move forward and backwards.
Hyundai ix35 SE diesel – I purchased the ix35 SE diesel in August 2013 and am very impressed with its performance and features. It looks sporty and is not too large a vehicle. The towing capacity is sufficient for towing my pop-top caravan and the pulling power of the diesel is pretty good. the extra features of the SE make it a most enjoyable vehicle to drive.
