I am posting this review so that other IKEA kitchen customers know that they do not have to simply accept premature failure of IKEA kitchen components, especially where the problem involves EKBACKEN benchtops, METOD cabinets, swelling, delamination, moisture ingress, peeling, bubbling, or edge failure. In my case, IKEA kitchen components,… Read more
including an EKBACKEN laminate benchtop/worktop and METOD kitchen cabinets, deteriorated in ordinary domestic kitchen use. The damage included delamination, swelling and moisture-related deterioration in areas where kitchen products should reasonably be expected to cope with normal use, including around the sink and dishwasher zones.
I raised the matter with IKEA and asked for proper technical evidence showing that the EKBACKEN benchtop and METOD cabinet components complied with relevant Australian requirements and were fit for purpose in an ordinary kitchen environment. I asked for actual test reports, laboratory accreditation details, standards references, and a comparison against applicable Australian or Australasian requirements relating to moisture resistance, durability, cabinetry performance and fitness for purpose.
IKEA made various offers during the dispute, but in my view those offers did not properly resolve the full problem. Earlier offers were limited, and IKEA maintained at different stages that the damage was related to environmental or water exposure, installation, or workmanship. However, independent material I obtained supported my position that the damage was consistent with product failure, including moisture ingress and poor adhesion of the ABS edging to the substrate. The independent findings also recorded that some affected areas were original uncut edges, that the dishwasher moisture guard had been installed correctly, and that installation was not the cause of the moisture damage.
I eventually took the matter to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. In QCAT case Q5730-26, the Tribunal ordered that replacement of the delaminated benchtop and cupboard occur at IKEA’s sole expense, and that IKEA undertake the repair and replacement within 45 days by arrangement with me.
I would have preferred the order to expressly state that any replacement components must comply with Australian manufacturing standards and be fit for purpose for ordinary domestic kitchen use. However, the outcome still confirms an important point: a consumer can challenge IKEA and obtain a practical remedy when kitchen components fail prematurely.
My advice to other IKEA customers is simple: do not be intimidated by a large international company. Take photographs, keep every email, keep your receipts, ask for the actual technical documents, obtain independent reports if necessary, and pursue the matter through consumer protection channels or the Tribunal if the company does not provide a satisfactory solution.
This review is not written out of spite. It is written to warn other consumers and to encourage people with similar IKEA kitchen failures to stand their ground and seek a proper remedy.

We recently purchased fitted sheets and pillow covers from a store. Upon opening them at home, we were surprised to find the pillow covers were unusually large, resembling body pillow covers. Our Australian pillows are standard or average length, so we are still trying to determine the size of these covers.

Store was very easy to navigate, staff and service staff are super friendly and happy to help. I bought 3 Billy Oxberg bookshelves for my book nook. Love them!! Super easy to put up. Took me 10 minutes. Quality is great, very sturdy. Show details
I bought a $49 grey floor rug and when I got home and unwrapped its nothing like the one on display. It's not as fluffy and the rug is all crinkled and hasn't settled. Very disappointing and looks horrible wont buy another rug from Ikea again. And I love ikea but not there floor rug I bought. Show details
Bought their IKEA Solarvet outdoor LED 24 lantern solar lights. Got them home (NE Victoria). Solar panel looked weathered and some LEDs showed signs of rust. Undertook the very fiddly task of assembling the 24 lanterns. Some needed glue to stay attached. Turned it on and four lanterns don’t work. WTH. Can I be butted to dismantle them, repackage them and drive 3.5 hours to return them? Probably not so $40 wasted. DO BETTER IKEA! Show details
Ordered a paper lampshade and cutlery set online. IKEA packed a heavy metal box loose in the same package as a fragile paper lampshade. It arrived torn and unusable. Their system refuses online claims under $50, so you’re forced into phone/chat/store options. Not practical if you’re rural or disabled. Damage caused by poor packing, but getting a refund is deliberately difficult. Buy fragile items elsewhere or in-store.
Lamps arrived easy to assemble they even provide spanner to tighten base the order as every thing lkea is so well packed you get what you order now l will order more bulbs as they are cheaper than others very happy customer

Current excuses from Ikea's delivery service is that the delivery company said they didnt delivery the items that way even though they sent the photo of delivery proving how they delivered the items. we sent the photo we were provided later back to ikea which was acknowledged but now they want video footage or more.
Very poor support by ikea . Dont get them to deliver items for you
Absolute joke. I purchased a bin from IKEA which was over $100. The first time i used it the pedal snapped off. I was sent a replacement. A few months later, the pedal snapped off again in the same spot. There is a design flaw with the IKEA product that IKEA has ignored. They provided no email address, and all other contact methods take hours to… Read more

Chest of drawers was easy to put together and instructions were easy to follow even for old people like us. We needed my son’s help with the kitchen cupboard because it was too heavy for us. There were a few things mentioned in the cupboard which weren’t in the box so we managed without them. We found exactly what we wanted on line and delivery was on time.
Placed an order on the 8th August. Order was acknowledged. For 4 days the order status was “we are packing your order”. Next day the order was split in two. customer service for the 2nd time asking when I could pick the order up and asked why hadn’t I been notified of when to collect. No sooner had I hung up I received an email saying my order was ready for collection. Went to Ikea Innaloo to pick up Saturday 16th August which was a nightmare trying to navigate the carpark with the usual access to the carpark blocked and no clear signage with alternative access. Revived the glass vases which were thrown in a box with no effort made at all. Absolutely crap service all round IKEA Perth.
You book a delivery for saturday then they deliver it on tuesday. Then what is the point of booking it? There are missing items from my order, 6 missong items. The chatbot is useless on their website and keeps refusing to connect you to a human. Calling them on the phone also doesnt work. Been waiting for 3 hours on hold to ask for refund for missing items. Do not order anything online from IKEA. This company is a scam.
Ikea Adelaide delivery service team left the sofa - unusually packed in one big single box - in the garage and not in the room where it was meant to go in for the installer to assemble and position in the correct place. I paid for both services. Now I have organised to cancel and refund it but was told that it won't taken away for another four… Read more

Products are great but service nice but not enough staff to deal with customers. Huge line up and wait time to go through customer service Checkout. Also buying food products is self serve will not be doing that again ever. I saw people in front of me not putting items through no one was checking so I assume a lot gets stolen. I won't be back. not even take my calls or provide an email for me to send details of my complaint.
IKEA said that I must have caused the damage! - see photo - unbelievable.
It took a complaint to Consumer Affairs (CA) and the threat of VCAT for IKEA to eventually accept responsibility.
My advice is go to CA after what I assume is IKEA's standard initial refusal to do the right thing, then go straight to VCAT if still no resolution. Dont waste months like I did, in assuming I was dealing with a company that cares about its customers. Better yet, dont buy anything from them at all.
(nice little add on - I also got asked to review the 50 individual items (shelves etc) that made up the 2 wardrobes... almost comical)
Follow-up · They paid compensation for the damage they caused, after I took the above action. I am still very much of the view that their standard process for complaints is to deny responsibility at the outset, hoping you'll give up. Will never deal with them again.

lovely young man in kitchen dept, Jack. He was so attentive, I sent him a video of the tap with water leaking. He straight away agreed it was faulty and arranged for a new tap, it arrived within days. I arranged a plumber, paid for it to be installed. Sent my paid invoice to IKEA so they could see it had been done. Tonight IKEA contacted me and refunded me the plumbers amount! I am so very grateful, no other store I have come across stand by their products like IKEA have done and with such courtesy for the customer. I am just so very grateful for the kindness and brilliant service to customers, I love IKEA, I have not been paid for this review, I am writing this so others know IKEA is reputable and look after customers.

Dear IKEA Customer Service, I recently purchased BILLY bookcases with the corner unit attachment from IKEA. came to assemble the unit, as he was unable to complete the installation of the corner section because the required bracket was missing. As a result, the installation could not be finished, causing unnecessary inconvenience, additional time, and frustration.
I believe this accessory should either: - be included automatically with the corner unit, or - very clearly recommended and explained at the time of purchase, both online and in-store. At no stage was this requirement made obvious to me I hope IKEA can improve the purchasing guidance for future customers to prevent the same issue occurring again. Marina

units correctly. After installation, the drawers would not close properly, and we were told the unit was faulty.
We then had to contact IKEA to organise a replacement and reinstallation. This process was disappointing — we had to follow up every couple of days as there was little to no proactive communication. It took around two weeks just to get the replacement booked in.
Eventually, a new unit was delivered, and a different assembler came a few days later. This second installer was professional, efficient, and clearly experienced. He quickly identified that the original unit was not faulty at all — it had simply been assembled incorrectly the first time. He put everything together properly, and now the furniture works perfectly.
While I’m happy with the final result, the overall experience took around 3–4 weeks to resolve and required constant follow-up from us, which shouldn’t be necessary. The inconsistency in the quality of installers and the lack of communication from IKEA made the process far more stressful than it needed to be.
In summary: good products and a positive outcome in the end, but the assembly service and customer follow-up need significant improvement.
Paid for home delivery. Stayed at home, waiting for delivery when I get a text that my items have been delivered.
