I really appreciated how insanely supportive the whole team was for me. I almost quit halfway through feeling overwhelmed. But then I reached out to my instructor and course advisor and they came up with a plan to get me back on track with the course and actually enjoy coding again! I was so excited with my capstone that I’m expanding it and working on it more even after the class! Show details

Potential students should have realistic expectations – I was pleasantly surprised by the IOD cybersecurity course, especially after reading several other reviews. While the cost may be prohibitive for some, it's essential to consider the value of a structured learning environment. Yes, much of the information provided in the course can technically be found for free online, but the discipline to… Read more

self-study is where many of us falter. This course demands commitment—partly motivated by its price tag—which is essential for success in any educational endeavour. For those hesitant about the cost, remember that you're investing in a framework that compels you to engage deeply with the content. My experience was overwhelmingly positive: I found the course enjoyable and educational. It's not just about earning a certificate; it's about genuinely expanding your skills and joining a vibrant community. To anyone considering this course, be ready to commit, and good luck—welcome to the cybersecurity family!

Follow-up  · 1. 6 month, was a part timr course so attended only on weekends. 2. Job hunting service. 3. Just a resume and cover letter template, while before the course, someone on the phone told me they have good reference in the market, but never heard of them later.

experience, those aspects were not delivered, support was limited to general coaching and job listings. After raising the issue formally, nothing was done but offer some “coaching ie make your resume class” This review reflects my personal experience and ongoing complaint.

Follow-up  · I did learn new skills. However this is highly dependent on your own motivation and own work ethics. The course content is standard pretty much what you get everywhere. The instructors where very knowledgeable. BUT as i said before. If you are hoping in getting, industry connections or workplacement offers. Or any kind of kob support. It is a big SKIP.

visualisation through to machine learning and artificial intelligence fundamentals.

What I appreciated most was the hands-on approach. The projects and exercises allowed me to build confidence using industry-relevant tools and techniques rather than simply learning the theory behind them. The instructors were knowledgeable, supportive, and able to explain technical concepts in a way that was accessible for learners from a variety of backgrounds.

Since completing the course, I feel much more confident working with data, interpreting insights, and understanding how AI can be applied to solve business problems. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop practical skills in data science and artificial intelligence, whether they are starting their career, upskilling, or exploring a new field.

My Software Engineering (Full Time) program at the Institute of Data was a genuinely intensive, fast-paced course designed to compress a large amount of practical learning into a short period. Delivered over 12 weeks full-time, the program was structured to simulate a real working environment, with daily hands-on coding, group collaboration, and… Read more

project-based learning that mirrors industry expectations. From the outset, the emphasis was on building real, usable skills rather than theoretical knowledge, which makes it particularly effective for career changers, professionals or business owners looking to rapidly upskill.

One of the strongest aspects of the course is its breadth. The curriculum spans front-end and back-end development, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, APIs, databases such as MongoDB and MySQL, and deployment tools like Docker and AWS . This full-stack exposure is valuable because it provides a holistic understanding of how modern applications are built and deployed. However, the trade-off is that the pace was overwhelming, especially for beginners like we without prior coding experience. The recommended pre-work (30–40 hours) is essential and should not be underestimated .

The teaching model stands out for its practical orientation. Instructors are industry professionals, and the learning environment is workshop-style, with a strong focus on solving real-world problems in teams . This approach helps develop not only technical skills but also collaboration, debugging, and problem-solving abilities, which are critical in real software engineering roles. The inclusion of multiple mini-projects and a capstone project reinforces learning through application rather than passive consumption. Another key component is the Job Outcomes Program, which provides career coaching, resume support, and access to job opportunities. The program reports strong placement outcomes, with a high percentage of graduates achieving job success within 3 to 6 months . While these figures are encouraging, outcomes ultimately depend on individual effort, prior experience, and how effectively students leverage the support provided.

On the downside, I stress the course can feel compressed given the sheer volume of material. You need to do your homework very night. Falling even a day behind is fatal.

Some topics are necessarily covered at a high level, meaning students often need to do significant self-study to deepen their understanding. Additionally, while the course provides a strong foundation, it is not a substitute for long-term experience; graduates should expect to continue learning extensively after completion. Overall, the Institute of Data Software Engineering program is best suited for highly motivated individuals who are comfortable with an intense workload and are serious about transitioning into tech quickly. It delivers strong practical exposure, industry-relevant skills, and valuable career support, but success depends heavily on the effort you put in.

If you are considering enrolling with the Institute of Data (IOD), particularly their Cyber Security Full-Time program partnered with UTS, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. facilitator was suddenly removed. We were left in the dark with no official communication. When management finally addressed it, they provided written assurances that the quality of our learning would not be compromised and that stable replacements were in place. This was completely false. The cohort was subjected to a rotation of fill-in trainers, and the cohesive 12-week programme I paid for was entirely derailed. When I attempted to withdraw due to their failure to maintain a stable learning environment and their breach of contract, IOD intentionally dragged the complaints process out. Instead of taking accountability for their operational failures, they tried to charge me thousands of dollars for the severely compromised modules, refused to refund my upfront deposit, and had the audacity to tack on a $500 "administrative fee" on the way out. To make matters worse, their proposed "resolution" was entirely conditional on me signing a Withdrawal Agreement, essentially attempting to gag me from speaking out about their conduct. They take zero responsibility for their internal disruptions and will use every excuse in the book to keep your money. I am now escalating my case to NSW Fair Trading, ASQA, and NCAT. Do not make the same mistake I did. Avoid IOD at all costs.

I had a disappointing time with an IOD course a few years ago and its a shame to see their poor business practices are still in place. To the company, I noticed in one of your responses you make a reference to the reviewer’s personal medical situation. How is that appropriate or relevant at all, and in a public forum no less?? So inappropriate.

me: engaging, practical, and never felt like a dry lecture. What stood out most was how current the content felt. It's clearly built around what IT companies are actually looking for right now, in 2026. We also had weekly presentations and projects, which honestly pushed me outside my comfort zone at times, but looking back, it's given me skills well beyond just data science and AI: communication, time management, working under pressure. I'm genuinely grateful I had this opportunity. If you're thinking about getting ahead in your career, improving your job prospects, or just want to up-skill for yourself, I'd say go for it. It's worth it.

Took the part time 6 month course. Though it was full on, I got to learn what the current industry practice is and am now able to build a full application with confidence. From a non IT background to a confident developer, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here with fellow students and a great trainer Mirza who guided me along the way.

Don’t recommend it at all! I work full time and and I’ve been told by them that I could handle it but it’s really difficult cause I couldn’t dedicate. It’s a lot of exercises and projects to submit. Also the classes weren’t great. It’s too much content and explanations weren’t clear. The support for students is very poor as well. It’s bloody expensive for what you get being super honest. Hello there, I'm a recent Software Engineering course graduate. Here are some of my thoughts and views about the course overall: - Having some background knowledge about coding would be a great advantage, however the pre-course work is a great entry way to learning about coding. Do put in effort into learning it and doing some further research can… Read more

help tremendously in keeping up with the lessons. - Determination is crucial in the learning process as the course duration is quite short and there are a vast amount of information to learn. I would highly recommend to set aside a schedule to prioritize self-learning and research in order to benefit much better from the course. - AI assistance: If you find yourself struggling with code, that's alright! It is recommended to use AI to assist in coding but fundamentally you will need to understand what the code does in order to maintain and debug the project. - Not everything is about coding: Designing the application, identifying the problems, analyzing the customer's request and usage of different software/libraries are also part of being a Software Engineer. Having a business mindset can help bring the project a clearer motive and profitable future, which will be something to work on and develop throughout the course. - Projects: There will be mini-projects and a final Capstone Project which carries a lot of weight in the grading for the course. While it is thrilling to try out new ideas, I highly recommend to spend much time and depth in coming up with the Capstone Project idea as it can potentially be something amazing to display on a portfolio and resume to impress future employers. - Personalized trainers: I'm grateful to have Mr. Jason as my trainer for the course. From coding practices to analyzing business cases, Mr. Jason has provided many valuable resources and links for us to learn more during our own time and pace. As someone who has many years of experience in the industry, Mr. Jason often shares his insights on how the common problems faced in the industry can be solved. The most important factor is that "there is no right or perfect answers", there are multiple ways to come up with a solution, whether that solution is good enough will depend on the scenario and requirements, so I highly recommend sharing own thoughts and solutions to find out what others would think and done differently and learn from it. - Dedicated support team: Other than the trainers, there are also catered student services to help you on your learning journey throughout the course. Having a dilemma and have trouble deciding on how to manage your studies? Feel free to reach out to the student services for advice! Their friendly check-in messages has kept me feeling positive throughout the course and I know I can rely on them for any concerns regarding administrative and progress for the course. - Overall the pace and difficulty feels just right for me (personally have experience with an Object-Oriented Programming(OOP) coding language). Needless to say there will be struggles in learning a new topic from scratch, but with commitment and the resources provided, I am sure everybody can succeed in getting the certificate!(•̀ᴗ•́ )و

tl;dr : Learning is a two-way process, information can be found and provided, but will only become effective when you process and apply it. And as Mr. Jason would say: "Don't just be a coding monkey, make something that has actual value to it". Thank you for reading and all the best for future students enrolling to the course.
