One of the strongest aspects of the course is its breadth. The curriculum spans front-end and back-end development, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, APIs, databases such as MongoDB and MySQL, and deployment tools like Docker and AWS . This full-stack exposure is valuable because it provides a holistic understanding of how modern applications are built and deployed. However, the trade-off is that the pace was overwhelming, especially for beginners like we without prior coding experience. The recommended pre-work (30–40 hours) is essential and should not be underestimated .

The teaching model stands out for its practical orientation. Instructors are industry professionals, and the learning environment is workshop-style, with a strong focus on solving real-world problems in teams . This approach helps develop not only technical skills but also collaboration, debugging, and problem-solving abilities, which are critical in real software engineering roles. Another key component is the Job Outcomes Program, which provides career coaching, resume support, and access to job opportunities. On the downside, I stress the course can feel compressed given the sheer volume of material. You need to do your homework very night. Falling even a day behind is fatal.

Some topics are necessarily covered at a high level, meaning students often need to do significant self-study to deepen their understanding. Additionally, while the course provides a strong foundation, it is not a substitute for long-term experience; graduates should expect to continue learning extensively after completion. facilitator was suddenly removed. We were left in the dark with no official communication. When management finally addressed it, they provided written assurances that the quality of our learning would not be compromised and that stable replacements were in place. This was completely false. The cohort was subjected to a rotation of fill-in trainers, and the cohesive 12-week programme I paid for was entirely derailed. When I attempted to withdraw due to their failure to maintain a stable learning environment and their breach of contract, IOD intentionally dragged the complaints process out. Instead of taking accountability for their operational failures, they tried to charge me thousands of dollars for the severely compromised modules, refused to refund my upfront deposit, and had the audacity to tack on a $500 "administrative fee" on the way out. To make matters worse, their proposed "resolution" was entirely conditional on me signing a Withdrawal Agreement, essentially attempting to gag me from speaking out about their conduct. They take zero responsibility for their internal disruptions and will use every excuse in the book to keep your money. I am now escalating my case to NSW Fair Trading, ASQA, and NCAT. Do not make the same mistake I did. Avoid IOD at all costs.

I had a disappointing time with an IOD course a few years ago and its a shame to see their poor business practices are still in place. To the company, I noticed in one of your responses you make a reference to the reviewer’s personal medical situation. How is that appropriate or relevant at all, and in a public forum no less?? So inappropriate.

They charged me $17,000 for a "job guaranteed" program. It has been almost 7 years, and I have received no response, no support, and no job guarantee. Please be aware and do your research before signing up. My experience has been extremely disappointing.

Took the part time 6 month course. Though it was full on, I got to learn what the current industry practice is and am now able to build a full application with confidence. Don’t recommend it at all! I work full time and and I’ve been told by them that I could handle it but it’s really difficult cause I couldn’t dedicate. It’s a lot of exercises and projects to submit. I would highly recommend to set aside a schedule to prioritize self-learning and research in order to benefit much better from the course. - AI assistance: If you find yourself struggling with code, that's alright! It is recommended to use AI to assist in coding but fundamentally you will need to understand what the code does in order to maintain and debug the project. - Not everything is about coding: Designing the application, identifying the problems, analyzing the customer's request and usage of different software/libraries are also part of being a Software Engineer. Having a business mindset can help bring the project a clearer motive and profitable future, which will be something to work on and develop throughout the course. - Projects: There will be mini-projects and a final Capstone Project which carries a lot of weight in the grading for the course.
