We have had an ION630 for two and a half years, and an ION610 for about four years. Both still work really well at extracting moisture from the air. But unfortunately, both now make loud squeaking/grating noises such as the sound made by dry/worn… Read more

bearings, especially when first turned on. The 610's noise can sometimes go away almost completely when the machine 'warms up', say after 10 or 15 minutes, but at other times it can continue for hours at a stretch. This means that we can't leave them running overnight anymore. At other times, it became so annoying that we turned them off - permanently in the case of the 630. Both were set for 50% humidity and run on the Low setting most of the time. We briefly set them on Laundry mode, but this would represent less than 1% of their running time. The noise from the two we have is very similar, which suggests to me that there is some common component responsible. It could be a bearing or something else. I don't know. I contacted Ionmax via their website to enquire whether they could be serviced, but that was weeks ago, and they declined to reply. After I posted my review here they were suddenly interested. They asked that I send video evidence, which I did, but after two weeks awaiting a response, still nothing. As the warranty on these was only two years, I suspect that they are both now end-of-life. I expected to get at least five years use. A shame as they are otherwise a good product, and will make a hefty contribution to e-waste.

Follow-up  · I'm writing a follow-up after being prompted by readers' questions. Both dehumidifiers were cleaned every 4-8 weeks. I thought I covered this in my original review, but to be clear, the noises do not affect the dehumidifying capabilities, except that the ION630 became SO annoyingly noisy that we stopped using it altogether. I'm not sure how to… Read more

Have always struggled with mould and dampness here in the rainforest of VIC, so I'm very glad I purchased an Ionmax for our living space. It warms the air as well, and is so efficient! I’ve already fwd the website link to so many of my friends, and I bought two for my work!! Honestly can’t recommend them enough for damp spaces! (Thinking about… Read more ·  1

POSITIVE POINTS The packaging was adequate. The delivery notifications & date worked as advertised. The unit is simple to set up & run. In a small, relatively cold room (9 deg C) with an open doorway, it consistently removes 350ml/hr , and warms… Read more

the room up by 1-1.2 deg C when run for 4 hours. As mentioned in every review, it is smaller and lighter than a compressor dehumidifier - but probably not significantly different from other desiccant dehumidifiers.

NEGATIVE POINTS Two missing features prevent what I consider "normal operation", which is to prevent mould forming on clothes in our storeroom. IMO "normal operation" should be: you set it up to come on each day at a fixed time, for a fixed duration. During that time, it should discharge continuously through a length of plastic tubing of at least 3m length, which can be taken across a passageway to discharge externally under a door or through a drillhole in the wall.

This unit does not have any scheduled timer, which is a major nuisance, especially when a lot of other applicances for room use (eg, oil heaters) do have one. It's not an expensive item to add to the device.

The length of plastic tubing supplied for "continuous drainage" was unusable, resembling a very short, very stiff length of garden hose, and of far larger large diameter than needed. Some other dehumidifiers come with several metres of softer, much narrower plastic tubing (like LDPE "beverage tubing"), which I have used in the past, and which works well. Continuous drainage is just as essential as the scheduled timer. Apart from laundry clothes-drying use, there is no point in running this kind of unit just once. It needs to run daily, and if you forget to empty the container just once, you have a soaked carpet.

These two deficiencies prevent this model from being used in a "set and forget" fashion. If I had seen another brand with good reviews and with these 2 features included, I would have immediately chosen that other brand instead.

There were other evidences of poor industrial design, although less important to daily use. These include: 1. the pull-out water container is quite flimsy: I think it will soon get broken in most households if it has to be emptied every day. 2. central handle on the water container is poorly designed, as the container swings around too much when you carry it full of water. A more stable handle, or pair of handles, would not have been hard to include. 3. the emptying slot is poorly located, so you cannot pour the water out cleanly without it splashing against its own plastic surrounds. Annoying if you want to pour it into a jug to measure volumes, for instance, or into any receptacle smaller than a toilet. 4. there is a hygrometer readout, but no temperature read-out. If you want to record collection rate vs humidity and temperature, which is a reasonable thing to do, especially as figures for comparison are available from source like Choice, you can't do it. Also, the temperature is a key figure to record when battling mouldy surroundings - which is a very common reason for buying this type of unit. 5. The water tank should be removable from the front instead of the back, so you don't have to keep turning the unit around if you first want to read the control panel, and then want to remove the water container. It sits flush against the body, so front removal would not be unsightly. 6. There is no instruction guide or manual of any kind, apart from a some minimal information on a single sheet of paper - useless. 7. the optional HEPA filter is expensive considering the low grade material. 8. The boxed item makes no mention at all of the expected life of the zeolite material which is essential to its operation, nor any mention of whether it is replaceable, nor the likely cost. The company's website claims it "doesn’t need frequent recharging or maintenance" which is too vague to be reassuring. 9. There is no mention at all of whether the discharge water contains significant amounts of zeolite or other leached chemicals, and no mention of whether it is safe to use it for other purposes: eg, for filling steam-irons, or for watering plants, pets or stock.

CONCLUSIONS It works in cool rooms, unlike a compressor dehumidifier, so this meets the most immediate requirements. However there are many poor design features, and I distrust the lack of any details about zeolite life, replaceability & cost.

Follow-up  · Follow-up: in answer to some questions asked: 1. I do not as yet have an answer for the drainage issues. I turn it on when the storage room is cold and humid, and empty the bucket manually. As previously stated, I would *like* to set it up to run automatically, but this isn't possible because of both the drainage issue AND the lack of a timer. … Read more

The dehumidifier has been doing a wonderful job for our garage. It diligently draws water daily from a rather humid space. The garage now smells fresh again. We highly recommend it for rooms with high humidity. And this company has been a pleasure to deal with. Show details ·  1

Efficient, reliable and clean. Lives in our bathroom and it mops up all the humidity, leaving on the bathroom mould free and safe for our family. Will move around the house if required and love the laundry function for drying clothes indoors in the winter- it works and beats an energy-hungry dryer. Worth the investment. I had my ION630 unit almost 3 years. Recently after I turned it on, it will run for at the most one minute and flipped to the 'Check' Led. I contacted Andatech for advice, and they said it could be the fuse and heating element that needed replacement, together with the inspection cost and postage, it will cost $373 with one year warranty, but they… Read more

will have to inspect the unit before a final cost can be decided. Andatech also offered me 30% discount on new identical unit (RRP $549), and the best they could do is $350. My argument is, a unit at that price point, I expect it to be durable and reliable. I have had a few delonghi ones and they are very reliable, I had one that lasted over 20 years, another at least 10 years old now. I am hesitant to spend another $350 or $370+ on a unit that is not that reliable. My thinking is if I buy a new one it may only last another 2+ years only. I saw some similar reviews on this platform so wanted to share my experience as well. I have done all the right things, cleaning the filters regularly, switch it off when not needed, etc etc. I am really disappointed.

I purchased the ION 630 dehumidifier as the reviews were positive and expecting it to be a reliable, long-term investment. Unfortunately, it failed in less than 3 years of normal household use. Effective - bad delivery – My third Ionmax unit - the 630 Vienne is noticeably noisier (8db) higher than the advertised specification and more than than the ION612 putting the official specs in question. The unit functions admirably removing water; in laundry mode dries washing in a small room with great results. An independent review site rates cost of running the highest… Read more

of all dehumidifiers (29c per hour) - noted, it is also rated as the second best overall as it is more effective in water removal. Useful and accurate humidity display. Does not allow the option to turn off the sounds, but neatly sleeps when target humidity level is reached. Preferred the ION612 side access tray rather than rear for the Vienne which can be inconvenient. Bought this from the official store - woeful delivery experience for a 'distributor' - no fault of carrier - the issues lay directly with the company's people and processes that need to be improved.

Powerful little machine – I have been loving this dehumidifier for a small home. It really does dry your clothes in a matter of hours especially during colder winter months. Great dehumidifier – I’m really happy with my Ionmax Vienna. It’s a modern looking design, easy to use, you just have to press four button settings. which is great that it’s heating the room while in use but I’m not sure how that’s going to go in the very hot and humid summers where I live. I live in a 100 year old house and I bought it for an unventilated small bedroom that keeps on getting a very small amount of mould on the ceiling and wall and I’ve had none since buying this. It’s very satisfying to empty the large amount of water in my Ionmax everyday compared to the two Damp Rid containers that I previously used that took over a month to fill up an inch. I’d definitely recommend this product.

day on a super humid day, but the fact that you can tip 3L every time makes it super satisfying knowing that you really removed that much moisture from the air. The room that is dehumidified on a rainy day makes it the perfect room to take a rest while watching the calming rain clouds. On hot days, this dehumidifier can also remove moisture on rainy days, but the only downside is that it also creates heat over time. So I usually set the Vienne for 4 hours and turn on the aircon on dry mode. This literally reduces humidity from 70+ down to +-58 in a couple hours while not heating up the room anymore. Ionmax Vienne is so reliable that I would definitely recommend.

A very effective unit! – Does an effective job of dehumidifying a room as long as it’s nots too big.
