I fixed my Jeep Cherokee - I bought a Toyota Prado. I wrote a review here titled - I Regret I bought a Jeep - in the hope I could stop others making the same mistake. I had the transmission case replaced (a common and expensive repair that is a recall fix in North America but not honoured by Jeep in Australia). I then thought I would try and get… Read more

some use for a while to get some value from the cost. Sooo much kept going wrong that I could not stand it anymore. I found the best fix possible - I traded it in on a 2 year old Prado and took a sizeable loss on the Jeep. So, be warned - my old Cherokee is out there - Toyota did not want it and wholesaled it on. Mine was not really any worse than the others out there. The fact that they are discontinued should tell you all you need to know anyway. ps - The Prado is a dream and I can go a long way, go bush and to my property and know I will get home.

Defective mechanical issues – Power Transfer Unit for the 4x4 system is known to fail since 2014 models. This item is also found on other Jeep models. Absolute rubbish with customer service to match!!!! – Never, ever again. Their cars are absolute garbage. There is very little in the way of quality and the customer service is laughable. Bought the car new in 2015. The engine seems to struggle and jump when going through the gears to the point where it seems like its about to conc out. The service centre tells me this is normal? The sunroof makes a… Read more

gurgling sound when it rains and the car reaches 80-90kmph. Service centre could not replicate the problem? Rear door check strap has creaked like a rusty old barn door ever since I bought the car and was finally replaced after several services. The same thing happened to the driver door, however as it was not reported during warranty the refused to replace it. Then the engage button on the gear knob breaks off and I am told I pressed the button too hard, and again, not our problem (service centre). Now I've noticed a rust spot on the front bonnet which appears to have started under the factory paint. I would have thought if it was treated and painted correctly during manufacture then rust should not occur. Service department could not even find the rust spot when I advised them of it and yes, you guessed it, Sorry but not our problem, its out of warranty. In summary, if you want a below average car and a more below average customer service, buy a Jeep. Never again, goodbye Jeep and good luck. Thanks

I Try to be supportive of Jeep But their Customer service is ridiculous – Had a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk that was the best and most reliable car I ever had until it suffered a PCU failure in the 4WD differential assembly at 85,000km and 4 years (out of warranty)! Worked out a deal with Jeep and the dealer to buy a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk (Five year warranty) with appropriate discounts and trade in allowances. It was a… Read more

good deal and my Firecracker Red Trailhawk was delivered in Early April 2019. Absolutely great car and the paintwork and fit and finish is definitely superior to the 2014 model. Only issue was that the u-connect system was missing the sat-nav. Whatever the fix is and you would think it's a simple fix, Jeep Australia seem unable to communicate with myself or the dealer on what the fix is. Like, it's unbelievable, Jeep has such a great product a great dealer network (excellent) but the Staff at Jeep Australia seem to be unable to communicate with their valued customers on solution based outcomes. It's unbelievable. I have been waiting over 3 weeks now for an outcome, with no communication. It's a minor issue but jeeze I paid for Sat-Nav. I don't have it. Jeep Australia you ruin the whole Customer Experience. with abysmal communication. Further to the above, Jeep Aust, after 4 weeks agreed that the u-connect system needs to be replaced. A new U-Connect system has been ordered from the US, but as at today, closing in on 3 Months of ownership I still don't have a U-Connect System with Sat Nav. I will say for anyone with a 2014 - 18 Cherokee Trailhawk, upgrade to the 2019 model, it's much improved and fantastic off road.

Excellent – My Trailhawk has now done 85,000 km and have owned since new, purchased May 2015. Other than a blown Headlight and a faulty sensor that caused the engine warning light to come on (both fixed for free under warranty), my jeep has been absolutely trouble free (Battery replaced at around 60,000km) The off road ability is amazing. road on a very steep rocky mountain trail with a Land cruiser and D Max. The other 2 vehicles thought I was crazy. Trailhawk kept up no problem. Rear diff lock on and in Rock mode. No other medium SUV in Australia is as good in off road abilities On road it's as comfortable as any mainstream SUV. Love my Jeep and will probably upgrade to another Trailhawk. Can I also add that in my experience the 9 speed auto is just quirky but not bad, it's just a bit different and you adapt your driving style accordingly, I've had no problem with mine. The power of the 3.2 V6 is good, fuel economy average and on road handling is very good considering the off road abilities. I've just had the car serviced at Southport Jeep and the advice from their Service Team on pickup was, whatever you are doing keep doing it as the car is faultless. An update, In Mid Feb the 4WD warning light came on (yellow) and advised I had a problem with the 4WD system. After this light went out but I found that I couldn't put car in 4WD Low. Long story short, the dealer advised the PTU Assembly has suffered an internal failure. Cost to replace $3,995.00. Vehicle has done 85,500km and is 3 years 9 months since first regn. Lets see what Jeep do on this?

Can’t find rattling or crackling noise – I purchased my Jeep Cherokee Longitude 4x4 2015 model in May 2017. Ex company car, had only 3,000 km and was registered originally in 2016 hadn’t been a year . Have had no problems until recently. There was scraping noise when excelerating, turning corners and stop start movement. Had that fixed as it was engine Mount, now I hear a rattling… Read more

crackling and pretty loud engine noise from within the cabin of the car. Exterior you can barely hear it if at all. I had it looked at and they couldn’t find anything wrong. Now am going to take it back to Jeep Dealership to have looked at again. The car has not got too many kms, it’s going to be 7 years old but still like new. I’m hoping it’s nothing major as I paid $30,000 for this car. I love my car and am hoping it’s something very simple and small to fix if it needs it.

Excellent value, smooth, powerful, comfortable, reliable – We bought this from the dealer in 2015. It had been their demonstrator. Other than tyres and servicing the only extra cost has been to replace the tyre pressure sensors. They each have an internal battery, and I think their battery's had gone flat with age. The plastic molding covering the transmission tunnel by the drivers foot kept flopping out of it's retainer until I strengthened it. That's it! Show details

I REGRET - I Bought a Jeep – Unreliable, expensive to fix, always something wrong with it and now they are discontinuing the Cherokee in Australia because hardly anyone is buying them which will not help any re-sale price. Am going to spend the $2000 to fix mine and trade it in with a Jeep dealer for anything but a Jeep. Don't feel I could sell it privately to some poor sucker. Worst car I have ever had in my life – Purchased a brand new Jeep Cherokee Limited KL top of the range just over 3 years ago. The vehicle had broken down 5 times and each time required towing. Every break down required the car to be with the dealer for repairs from ~1… Read more

week through to 7 weeks (typically due to no available parts). The car has only done 60,000 km at present ... not the quality I expect

On top of this there were numerous quality issues that had to be addressed ...bent drive axle, leaking seals, loose consoles.... some of these issues were identified by an independent mechanic and were not picked up by the authorised Jeep service Dealer

Despite my constant written correspondence with FCA requesting them to buyback the vehicle, they still maintain that the company is acting in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.

Even now the vehicle has rough gear changes and the transmission feels as though it is going to break down again.

Out of all the cars I have owned during the last 30 years this is the worst car I have had in my life

The sooner we introduce tough lemon laws, the better this would be.

Buyer beware !

mechanical warranty (which is useless, but that's another story.) For the first year it was great, comfortable to drive and its a beautiful looking car. After only buying cheap cars before this, I was happy with my investment and vowed to remain loyal to the brand, thinking I would upgrade to a Grand Cherokee in a few years time.

After owning it for 18 months, the odometer hit 100k. I was driving home from work, when steam started coming out of the engine at an alarming rate. It turns out the radiator was broken and needed replacing, along with a few other bits and pieces they noticed. The car was at the dealer for over a week and I paid roughly $1500 for repairs. I thought it was a bit odd the radiator needed replacing on a car that was only 5 years old but nevermind. Soon after the engine warning light keeps coming on. Jeep tell me this is normal and is caused by Australian petrol, which is not good quality petrol.

Then another 6 months pass and I am away for the weekend with my family including 9 month old baby and our dog. We are coming back from a restaurant at night when I notice the headlights are barely working. The high beams would not work at all and the standard headlights were shining at about 25% of what they should be at. So I was driving on country roads in the dark, barely able to see in 100km streets. I was limping back to our accommodation with the hazards on with vehicles passing us doing 100km. What a great, safe family car!

The next day we went out to lunch, I was mindful that I needed to be home before dark due to the headlight issue. However, upon returning to the car, it will not start. The dash kept saying "action on the steering wheel" and "smart key failure". So on a freezing cold day, my wife, baby and dog had to wait for an hour for the RACV guy to arrive. There was nothing he could do so he organised a tow truck, which was another hour wait. By now our baby was howling with hunger and tiredness. The towie finally arrived and called us a taxi. In a rural area, we waited another 45 mins. Once it arrived we went to our accommodation packed our stuff and got him to take us the 120kms home. I had to lie and say my dog was an assistance dog so he would take him. The taxi fare was of course, enormous. We also had to pay extra towing costs that weren't covered by RACV in a rural area.

2 days later the Jeep was towed to the nearest Jeep dealership, who were initially reluctant to take it, saying they were fully booked for the week. They said the steering electrics had failed, the radio smart key receiver thing had failed and they werent too sure why the headlights were failing. At the time of writing this they have had the car for a week now because they are trying to source parts from other dealers in other states. Thankfully they have given us a loan car which is NOT a Jeep. The receptionist sheepishly told me never to buy a Jeep older than a 2016 model and also asked if I even want to repair my "lemon" as the costs are going to be in the thousands. As soon as it fixed I am going to trade it in for another brand vehicle.

I feel so stupid for being sucked in by the by the Jeep marketing and for giving them the benefit of the doubt. Never again...

with the fact that after just 150,000klm and all services being completed at either Jeep Brisbane, Jeep Gold Coast and Canungra Auto Clinic that I am now with a Jeep sitting in my yard with the motor removed and it sitting in the back of the car in pieces.

It started with a regular service when a warning code light came on which was a Misfire in a cylinder. This then manifested to a complete new engine being required and quoted at $21,000 from Jeep Gold Coast. Jeep Gold Coast had to pull the motor apart costing me $1500 just to tell me it’s no good and make me have it towed back home.

After some online research it appears this is a common problem with the Hemi 6.4ltr V8 motor in the US so much that they no longer produce them in the latest Jeeps. Jeep won’t take any responsibility at all and I don’t have the money to put a new engine in so I’m stuck owing money on a car that has no motor.

What do I do ? Jeep have washed there hands from it all, nobody wants to talk to me from Jeep.

it. You really have to think about the wear and tear on the engine etc when it’s constantly stopping and starting; hence I usually turn it off when driving. It would be better if the stop-start function was off when the car is started and leave it up to the driver to actually turn the stop-start function on if they wanted it on. The heated seats in winter are very welcomed as are the air conditioned seats in summer. The boot space is a good size and I appreciate the full size spare tire in there......I can’t stand space saving tires.....they are not very reassuring if you want to take the car off road or in the countryside where tire dealers are limited. The only bummer with our Jeep is that there have been a few issues with squeaks, rattles and other noises coming from the rear seats and roof, which is quite annoying and is even more frustrating when the service department can’t isolate or fix the issues. And lastly, I still can’t work out what the flappy thing with toggles is that’s hanging off the rear seats in the boot??? It seems pretty useless and gets in the way when I want to load my shopping or the kids’ school bags.

the addition of Trailhawk wheels would allow better tyre choices for greasy off road work.

Dashboard layout is good, steering wheel controls work well and phone connection was a breeze compared to my previous vehicles. Legroom is a little tight when getting in or out, but I am 6 foot 2 inches tall.

Luggage room is tight, but we carry an Engel fridge and have managed to fit a second battery below the rear floor. There is a lot of room available where the full size spare wheel sits.

We have done 30,000km in thirteen months including a trip across The Great Central Road. We towed a Mitsubishi 40km after it had run out of fuel. No problems so far other than a cracked windscreen from a stone thrown up by someone traveling too fast on a gravel road.
