John Deere LA100 Series Questions & Answers
Turns over but don't fire. Any ideas??
May be ‘No spark’ , ( may be faulty ignition coil or the earth switch activated probably the switch under the seat still in ‘closed position’ and it acts like a kill switch) or the connector of the hour may be ‘loose contact’, another reason is ‘no fuel getting in to the combustion chamber, in this case a blocked fuel line or a faulty carburettor or fuel shut of valve not working.
Where can I find the start up procedure
How different is the John Deere LA100 Series from the L110 unit? I am wanting to purchase a pair of new drag links and wonder exactly the difference between the units?
Is a John deere L100 the same as a LA100
No, they are not the same. My neighbor had an L100, and it was different from my LA100. My LA100 has a bigger engine if I remember correctly. They did look very similar on the outside, but under the hood, they looked different. My LA100 still runs great.
Cheers mate
I need spindle for my LA 115. Please help?

What does the 'LA' mean in john deere world?
What year were the la100 made in
You will need to check with the Serial number. Mine was manufactured in 2005
Ok thanks a lot
Just chance drive belt now belt slip and mower won't move . Seems to be jammed or stuck . Hope you can help. Any ideas?

What is considered good hours on any used John Deere lawn mower?
Well, I had 186 hours on mine and had to replace the motor. Keep in mind these are the cheaper made models built so they could compete with the likes of other similar priced brands. The X series are the heavy duty models.
Where were la115 models made?
Horicon Works (lawn and garden and turf care), Horicon, Wisconsin
Why won't want to have my deck blades turn? What do I need to do to find out what's wrong? It's the blade that is under the cover
Are your blades not turning? If they are stuck or not turning, please get a service person to fix. This can be a very dangerous problem that often leads to untrained people getting hurt.
With motor off, lift the exhaust flap (where the cut grass shoots out) reach in and see if you can turn the blade with anything but your hand. Use a stick or something. If it turns look on top of mower deck to see if the belt is off of pulley or broken.
hi i have a john deere model LA115 do you what year it is or where do i look on mower to find it? thanks.
I think you might be able to find out using the JD model search. external link
Is it a man or auto? Engine size and name could also help.
Does anyone know if John Deere, or any after market organisation have available a timing belt arrangement for the cutter drive .We have a L100 and while in general, the machine preforms well, it's cutting pattern is very poor, it leaves an uncut section down the middle of the blades where their rotation meets. Blades do not overlap as I would have thought if I was designing this type of machine. My idea would be to time both blades so they rotate with a offset of approx 90deg. This could be done using a notched drive belt and a freewheeling main drive pulley. probably an oversimplification, however this would allow you to fit longer blades and stop them striking one another. All you would need is an extra 20 to 25 mil ( 3/4 to 1 inch ) of extra blade length. Any suggestions would be great.
Hi Kevin, unfortunately I'm not aware of such a timing belt arrangement, however the idea seems quite plausible. Generally speaking, I have been unhappy with the light quality of the LA100 series cutter deck and frequently needed to change either belts or blades, which is an expensive proposition.
I have since changed to a Greenfield's mower which is brilliant in comparison. It has a single drive shaft driving a single cutter assembly with swing back blades. It's cut is excellent and extremely powerfull as the engine torque does not need to be divided between two cutter assemblies. So far I have had outstanding belt and blade life.
My suggestion would be slow down with engine at full throttle, you might be traveling to fast for the blades to cut sufficiently or your not at full throttle. Blades could be getting dull.
Hi All, thanks for your replies. There is no doubt that changing the total machine would be one answer, however, as we are a not for profit organisation our funds are limited and the thought of changing the complete machine is a little out of our reach. To improve the life of the blades I hard face them with "Cobalarc" electrodes about twice a year. We also plate the inside of the deck with some form of wear resistant "plate" such as stainless scraps, works well.
As for the Notched Belts. The type used in auto engines timing belts and some motor bike final power transmission systems would do the job well. In fact from what I have observed the notched timing belts discarded at scheduled changes on car engines could continue to be used in mowers and would probably give a fair life.
The problem is the design gap between the ends of the blades, once the ends wear the gap gets larger. Hard facing overcomes this problem but design change would make life a lot easier. I do doubt that speed has anything to do with the gap between the blade ends. I'm sure John Deere could solve his problem in a flash if they were dinkum.
Regards,
Kelvin
