The Westinghouse only lasted 13 years, but that seems to be 'good' these days. Not really good enough in my opinion. As a single… Read more
person now, I really didn't need such a large refrigerator, and the latest edition of Choice magazine had an article on refrigerators which listed the LG GB-335WL as a recommended buy in the 300-399 litre size range. I couldn't find one of these on line, and so I got the GB-335PL which surprisingly is only 306 litres according to websites that I accessed. A bit misleading there LG? It arrived with a lot of packaging, both internal and external. The stainless steel finish seems good. The compressor noise is low and I had to have a close listen to make sure that it was working when the power was switched on. Internal lighting via LED is good and the interior is neat. However there seem to be a few deficiencies that may be expected for the price. Three shelves in the fridge section, which is OK but it seems that there aren't any options for moving the shelves. There is only one crisper draw with no apparent 'climate control' (but I'm still reading the owner manual), no dairy compartment, no rapid chiller zone, three door shelves which cannot be adjusted to vary the height. It has what appears to be the usual LG way of temperature control for both refrigeration and freezing, with the options limited by a push button inside the unit, with only a few fixed temperatures available for each section. But it does have a rapid cooling option that you should use after initial installation. After several hours, I checked the internal temperature of the refrigerator, and despite the void being full with cold food, it was well above the 3 degree setting but just under the 'safe' 10 degrees via my min/max thermometer. I turned the temperature down to 1 degree over night and in the morning the thermometer (it is a mercury in glass type) was showing just under 5 degrees. This may indicate an inability of the unit to reach a desired temperature without using the lowest setting and thus using more energy ( the unit has a 4 star rating). I am currently checking the temperature of the freezer section and I'll have a result at the end of today, so more to follow. The freezer section has three drawers which seem adequate, but be a bit mindful that they are easy to pull right out.
UPDATED INFORMATION 13122023: I have completed my testing of the freezer compartment and the indicated temperature on the display is close to what my thermometer indicated. This is good. I rechecked the refrigerator section and at a setting of 2 degrees , my thermometer is showing 8 degrees. I've moved the thermometer to the bottom shelf for further testing and will report results tomorrow.
UPDATE 14122023. Well I checked the refrigeration compartment this morning. It was set at 3 degrees and came in close to four degrees on the bottom shelf. I'm reasonably happy with this, but I will be checking all shelves in the compartment and the door shelves as well.
UPDATE 15122023 I had another read of the owner manual, and a look inside the refrigerator, and there is a quite limited capacity to alter the height of one of the shelves in the compartment, but the top one only.
