We bought this fridge in 2021, and four and a half years later, after paying nearly a thousand dollars for what we assumed was a top fridge with a good guarantee, it stopped working. After alot of phone calls to LG Customer Care and deciding to get… Read more
the fridge independently assessed by a good reliable fridge repair service centre we knew what was the fault, a long slow leak of the gas over many months and so it would need regassing and a very thorough gas leak repair to repair it at the source. We spent a few weeks doing our homework about all of this and realised that even though LG said if its a fridge fault we'd be covered with a warranty if they said no it isn't its due to a power outage or hot weather (which had not affected the fridge in its 4 or more years). Due to a lack of trust with what LG staff said and did and realising they could charge us for the call out fee up to $200 and that their repair may just patch it up like regas but not take it away to a workshop to fix it, we decided not to go through LG, would be like gambling our money we may need for a new fridge. We spoke to a good fridge repair mechanic who said I can repair it but will cost between $600-$800. So we knew this was nearly the cost of a new fridge with a 3-5 yr warranty. We have learnt so much now about fridges and the ins and outs of all of this type of thing. After reading the reviews here that helped us to make the best choice. We had no fridge for a week and half just putting our food on ice, chucked out heaps, got a new hire fridge for a few weeks until we bought a new fridge after listening to what brands are good and this one has a service centre here in Melbourne and Australian staff, not out sourced, even LG outsource their repairs we discovered. So hope this review helps someone else. We did not expect to fork out nearly a thousand dollars again for a new fridge within five years, our last fridge went for over 20 years. Buyer beware in this day and age. Buy from a store that if you have a problem will go into bat for you, like the John Alan Betta Home Living Store at Ferntree Gully in Melbourne who are excellent and good prices too, gave us alot of help and information. Sorry about the tome, it was nearly a months journey through this. Sadly our in perfect condition fridge apart from the gas leak has been picked up and taken to be made into scrap metal. Which happens to tons of very good fridges not made to last deliberately and the consumer pays the hefty price. What a waste.
Follow-up · I have written a review of our new Chiq top mount 515 fridge we bought, and the experience we had buying it, and its on product review, as we bought the latest updated model, did our research first even ringing up the Chiq company and asking what changes the latest model had, but discovered too late after delivery that the fridge does not have… Read more
Only 4 years old, and the fridge door doesn't close keep popping up open, very frustrating, old fridges never had such problem, and doesn't expect it in a newer fridge. Have to check if it requires a new door seal Show details
DO NOT BUY LG. Poor after sales support – Bought this refrigerator in Nov'19 Worked fine until Dec'24 ie. just after 5 years and warranty expired. Even in Max setting, the water in the ice tray remained liquid and was not freezing. The food in refrigerator compartment was not cooling enough and going off very quickly. Called LG and was given the run-around. They do not have local support.… Read more
They outsource their technical resource to small external companies. Finally got a tech to come and assess (AUD180). He said that refrigerator was not repairable. However, he said he can try re-gas and there is a chance that re-gassing may fix the issue (AUD170 additional). Seeing that tech was already there, we tried that. $350 later still no fix to the issue. Called LG support again as they did not follow up. They said that the technicians report did not state that refrigerator is unrepairable. LG support can't communicate with their own techs and have asked me to contact their tech to ammend the report to pursue this matter. Painful experience and still ongoing.
Do not buy, waste of money – Do not buy this fridge. The freezer is over freezing and causing frost inside the food packages and spoiling all my food. I did have technician come out and investigate only to tell me its normal for this freezer, however in my opinion it is faulty as frost should not form inside the packages within a week. Show details
Do Not Buy from LG – Bought this fridge for our AIRBNB holiday rental. Died 2 years and 3 months after purchase and unfortunately whilst we had a guests on site. Had to do an emergency new fridge delivered, reimburse guest for loss of all food and call our own technician for $110 who diagnosed the PC/Electrical Board was dead and even a replacement would only last a… Read more
short life span. LG only offer online chat support. Have had Westinghouse and Fisher Paykel in our main residence for over 15 years with no issues. Fridge should not have died after the small 2 years of use and only 3 months out of warranty. Never again LG!!!
Very basic. Okay but poor design – Fridge door too low to the ground. Stand too close to this puppy with bare feet and you're going to have a bad day when the top of your foot gets king hit by the heavy door. Ice maker is garbage and takes up vital real estate space in the freezer. Ice sticks to poorly made plastic cubes and the twist thing will break after six months. It's that… Read more
weak. Crisper drawer is so narrow you can't fit a cauliflower in there and if you do succeed, you'll break the surrounding plastics trying to get it out. It's that poorly designed. You can fit only 10 eggs in the provided tray and it robs the shelves to put tall drink bottles. In fact the layout on the fridge door is a joke and there's no butter conditioner. So margarine will be your only option. On the positive side it has nice wide shelving to fit a wide casserole dish or leftover pizza boxes in.
So far so good, actual size is 478L not 512L – Just replaced my old Kelvi fridge, and I found this fridge is great for my use, so far no issues except, door opening warning noise which some time is very annoying, other It is not so sturdy like my old kelvi, specially its shelves, so not try to put too much stuff on these delicate shelves. Pro is that its 4 star energy rating with 10 years… Read more · 1
motor life, gives you a peace of mind. Cooling is very good plus the charming body color. this is my 4th LG home appliance and I found their products are very reliable. Just be mindful the actual size is 478L not 512L as advertised, this is what you will have actually space inside the fridge, I have to squeeze my stuff and its not roomy like my old 536L Kelvi, I missed you. I bought this fridge on 15% special promo from Good guys.
Good fridge great size freezer – Great fridge especially love the size of the freezer which can fit in way more than my previous one. It is good that the ice cube tray slides and that you can fit flat things under it. Fridge section is good and I can fit 1.25 bottles in the lower shelf. Only down side is the vegetable crisper draw is slim so not a huge amount fits in it. Also… Read more · 1
you have to open the door of the fridge to fully open it. This does not bother me as the rest of the fridge is great.
Basic fridge nothing fancy – Purchased in 2017. Pros = = = Even temperature, easy to clean, adjustable shelving in fridge and freezer. Cons ====Ice cube container takes up room in freezer and knob that turns to remove ice-cubes soon breaks. No butter conditioner. Non adjustable door shelves .... two door shelves are quite shallow two have more depth but do not hold tall… Read more · 1
bottles (suggest you take tall bottle with you when looking to purchase to see whether shelves can accommodate it) No specific place to store eggs. Vegetable compartment is quite narrow and drawer does not move smoothly. This was not important to us but might be to some ... front of fridge is gloss enamel while sides are some type of vinyl (I think) definitely not gloss enamel. Anyone looking for a basic family fridge without all the bells and whistles this would suffice.
Disappointing – Bought this fridge April 2019 and already the plastic around shelving and crisper drawer is cracking/splitting and breaking off. The "fresh zone" fish & meat compartment at the top of the fridge section freezes anything we put in there. We have adjusted the temperature of both fridge and freezer as per lg suggested temperatures, but still… Read more
freezing. The vegetable drawer is way too narrow and small for a 516 ltr fridge. Can't even fit an iceberg lettuce in there. Whilst the fridge motor is quiet, the door alarm is annoying when cleaning the fridge, and an option to turn it off would be good. Very disappointed overall. Expected superior quality and reliability from lg.
Waste of money – Only just over 3 months old and temperature control problems. Fridge and freezer go warm and start to dripping water all boxes in freezer go soggy freezer drips. Fridge warm all products not cold. Eg bottle of coke on 3rd shelf after 2 days still warmish not even cold. Had to waste so much food. Install LG thinq app to do diagnostic report came up… Read more
with error rS code cooling not working. Turned off and on again to reboot but not getting cold enough as first then 2 days later it starts warming and dripping water again. Wastes all out food again As warm. Good guys where we got fridge say repair man will replace control board - mother board out of good will. NOT GOOD ENOUGH only just over 3 months old we don't want second hand parts put the in it to repair. We have video or fridge, freezer dripping and messages from repair man stating control board problem but good guys tell us different
Icy cold – For a top mount fridge 516L there is heaps of room in both freezer and fridge. Shelves are made of glass which is a big plus factor. Very well set out. Controls are easy to follow
Total upgrade! – This is an excellent refridgerator and receives top marks for price, space (good for a family of 4 or 4.5 or a spare fridge if you have a gigantic family), and quiet operation. There is door cooling technology and ample freezer space. All in all, a top, top fridge! Show details

Not built for Australians – The fridge works fine and has plenty of shelf room. I purchased it on line (from local shop) based on the specs, next time I will go to the retailer and have a good look. The things I don't like are. The crisper opening is too narrow, you can't fit an iceberg lettuce or a whole cauliflower in it. The door shelves... the only way to fit a 1.25l or… Read more
2l soft drink bottle in is to remove either or both of the egg shelves. very poor design. We removed the egg shelves and keep the eggs in the cardboard continer on a shelf. The freezer does not get down to deep freeze temperatures -18c, only to about -10c. The freezer temp relies on the fridge setting and we found it was not cold enough at the 'normal' default setting. I would not buy this model again. I will look properly next time.
Great Fridge – This fridge is generous in size and easy to open and close. The shelves can be easily moved to customise the layout. The temperature is consistent in all of the compartments Show details
Perfect and affordable – I purchased a fridge one day before Christmas time as my Hisense one blew up just my luck. There was so many to pick from but I knew the LG brand has been around for years so I chose that! I couldn’t ask for a better fridge it’s amazing & the freezer space is just perfect as I have children and freeze our snacks! Show details
Good fridge and technology – Very nice finish with the colour / layer. Having replaced my old useless fridge that was leaking, it's very quiet and the doors automatically shut themselves upon a gentle or hard push. Very easy to clean the interior and exterior. The only downside to this fridge is that the fruit and vegetable storage has slots for dividers, which didn't come… Read more
with the fridge =( furthermore, the door side shelves aren't very versatile in placement.. It doesn't fit anything taller than a 2L milk bottle which was sad! They could've designed the 2nd shelf to be adjustable to fit a few tall bottles (beside the egg compartment).
Well made fridge freezer – Good size for the two of us. Very sturdy and obviously well made. Great ice cube tray and holder and nice layout. Would have been good to have more options on shelves in the doors as these can't really be adjusted for height. Big fridge though and overall very happy with it.
