felt like I was on a downward slope and had to shuffle up periodically to get comfortable. I called the store and they were nice enough even sending a new topper at my request as I thought there must be a fault. But no, now I realise this is it, even though we turn the topper and mattress as directed, you still get deep ruts either side. They say to try and lie in the middle of the bed! This is impossible and I don't have time to go and lie there to try and flatten topper out. It's very difficult to turn the mattress and topper, they're heavy and cumbersome. We've only had it for a few months and the ruts where we lie are deep, you can see when the bed is made it's not flat. I am devastated we spent so much for a bed that's uncomfortable, their ad on tv is total bull! I so wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing.

latex is so great and to see with my own eyes how they were made and test what type I may like. Staff were factual and helpful - not pushy, I'm all for the dot point type of information.

Ended up investing in a Queen Plush Bellissimo firm mattress - HEAVEN - Honestly has exceeded expectations - love it and still in as new exceptional condition after 10 years. My child has been trying to 'steal' it for years to the point we are now getting one for her. BEST DECISION for an exceptional night sleep - considering we spend 1/3 of our life asleep I wish I had of bought one earlier on.

I'm honestly surprised at the feedback I am reading here - I guess it depends on individual expectations. People's body weight, following care instructions (basic for me- rotation, good mattress protector (cotton), airing out) and sometimes flaws on products.

For me the best nights sleep every night has been worth the investment. Thanks! we bought pillows too - BEST EVER!!!!

I purchased your bed without my husband (high risk because he loves the old one) but even he mentioned the next morning how good it was. Wow that is unheard of, for him to admit that spending money was worth it.

The staff knew their product well and spoke to me to provide the information and not as someone that was there to just make a sale. Which allowed me to make the right informed decision.

Writing a review at 12.20am – I have been sucked in by the advertising and believing that spending $2355 would buy a comfortable mattress. Wrong! bed are so heavy it’s very difficult to flip. I would not recommend anyone buy these beds. The warranty is not good as other more comfortable beds have 10 year warranties and are made in Queensland and not by Mr Harvey. I remain baffled by some of the reviews about this company and its products but can only comment upon my own experiences--the Adelaide team is simply great and I am more than happy to recommend them and their products

Returned to Makin who cheerfully replaced with the same but again dents formed resulting in pain in hips where body pressure is greatest. Makin Mattresses are not interested in helping us with any form of refund which obviously makes this much harder, but as I have chronic pain and chronic headaches, we feel there is no choice. We had the mattress for 12months and returned it over six times, we woke up with big indents that didn't really go away causing us severe back and neck pain. ( the travelling for hours out of our way was a major pain.)

I cannot fault the stores we went to as we are travelling around Australia I found Adam at the gold coast store to be very helpful but after several times returning it we had enough and Adam had as well, and refunded our money less $472.00.

We now have another mattress made with the same profiles from a different store and we have no issues ,perhaps your springs were faulty as they were the only thing never changed.

I don't think we should have been out of pocket at all if anything compensation should have been paid!

doubt in our minds they would be the best quality. We were happily repeating the slogan Nobody makes a better mattress "NOBODY!"

What a joke. These mattresses sag in the middle when laying together (and we are not big people). My spine is on a curve when laying on my back. The topper is too thick it has no support in it.

We wake up with stiff backs and hips. Our arms go numb.

My husband's chest arms, shoulders and fingers go numb and tingly.

The topper is hot and saggy.

My husband describes sleeping on this mattress as "sleeping on wet cement." You sink in so far then it feels stiff and at the same time it sags.

We thought maybe the base was good quality and they'd stuffed up with a topper that was too thick so out of sheer desperation my husband slit open the topper and took out the foam. (Can you imagine the desperation we must have been in to take to the topper of our $2400 mattress with a stanley knife.)

We then placed the quilted topper on the mattress without the foam thinking this would fix the problem but no, there is a problem with the entire mattress. We are still waking up just as stiff sore and numb. It is a dud. Please don't risk buying from these people. They care only for profits and not customer satisfaction.

We went camping for a week and our air mattress on the ground (which we would normally complain about) was like heaven. We woke up that week without stiff backs and got a restful nights sleep. To me that is proof for us it is our Makin Mattresses be that is the culprit of our pain.

At this point we can't afford a new mattress. We are considering buying a cheap one from Ikea or Deals Direct to see us through.

We are stuck with a King size bed to dispose of. We would never resell it to anyone else as we know it is a dud and we are honest people who have more honour than to pass on our trouble to some unsuspecting person.

We may even cut the mattress open to make sure it looks the same as the cut away ones in store.

Please don't risk listening to the few good reviews like we did. You will be throwing money down the drain.

The idea of a latex core mattress is a good one (feels fine for the min or two in the shop), no springs so it should last a long time.. not the case.

You'll wake up in a ditch and be sore, it'll be hard to roll over in the night so you'll likely stay on one side.. very relaxing...

I'm roughly 6"3 @ 90-95kg and the wife is 6" @60-65kg mid thirties.

Ok for the story and I'll try and be brief.

We purchased the Firm 4000 latex mattress at the start of the year not long after having a newborn as a treat for ourselves. The bed arrived and we started to use it.

First issue, the mattress is seriously damn heavy. The 2 muscle men who delivered struggled, and you're told to flip once a week for 4 weeks and then every fortnight or so. There's no handles and its made of latex/foam so awkward as. I'm a reasonably fit 34 yr old and I struggled.

We used the mattress for a few weeks and noticed that when we woke up we were leaving a big indent that didn't really go away. Weeks passed and over this time we were waking very sore and even waking up with dead limbs (no blood flow, pins and needles followed).

We then contacted the store with the story and got a single line we're sorry to hear that and a form to fill.

We filled out the form which included the need to take photos of the bed etc. It took 3-4 working days before we heard anything.

The guy I spoke to did not apologise at any point, he started by saying he wasn't sure what the problem was and then through the conversation admitted that the stitching in the photos was for a medium core and not the firm (and still didn't apologise even though they mucked up the order). They said they would replace and we had to wait a week because that's when they were doing a run.

The conversation took a turn when i asked for some form of compensation as a) they messed up and b) we genuinely suffered because of this.

The guy got all defensive and asked what I wanted. I put it back on him and said what did he think would be right (I didn't pressure) and he wouldn't commit to any suggestions and put it back on me. i asked for cash back, only $200 which I thought was fair for a $3000 mattress. That was out of the question, I admit i pushed back (about wanting some form of compensation seeing as though I got no apology) and said they needed to make this right as we'd suffered (add a new baby ontop of a bad mattress and you see what i mean). He finally offered some free pillows that would come with the mattress. Ok so the mattress was delivered and guess what? No pillows.

I complained to the productreview email address that popped up for this product and I got a call the next day with an apology and they would send some out. It was a voicemail and I was kind of over it so gave up on it.

So we got the Firm mattress.. 4 months later and a very similar trend is occurring, We're sinking overnight, waking up sore / unrested and still flipping the damn thing every fortnight. My wife dreads going to bed of a night as she knows how bad the sleep is going to be.

Is there any real reason to contact them again? Can I get a full refund? Highly doubtful.

All I can do is scream out to all of Australia do yourself a favour and invest in a top of the line name brand (which is sad as one main reason we bought here was the fact that it was Australian owned.)

refused so we had the pillow top reconfigured to make it softer, It's now been months and I can honestly say we now wake up very sore and toss and turn at least every couple of minutes right through the night. The mattress is hard and lumpy, there is no bounce at all and the pillow top now gives off a lot of heat. Shame on you Makin Mattresses for continuing to sell these inferior mattresses. So disappointed – Purchased a King Bellissimo Duo medium mattress and plush 4 drawer base January 2013. We have rotated mattress and pillow top every weekend, we weigh 78 kilograms and 60 so not heavy people and both the top mattress and pillow top are sunken on both sides. Poor investment

sleep on that I had to sleep on the spare bed which is over ten years old and I slept a lot better on it. The mattress feels like a block of concrete to sleep on and having fibromyalgia the sales consultant told me that this bed will be very suitable for me as its soft and supportive. I wake in pain that I never experienced on my previous mattress. The third pillow top is now being modified with foam after they refused a refund. We even had to argue that they modify the comfort level on the pillow top for free after we were told that we will have to pay for it when we had never had it modified before. If this does not fix the comfort of this mattress I will take it up with the ACCC which clearly states that:

A product or good has a major problem when:

it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it

it is unsafe

it is significantly different from the sample or description

it doesn’t do what the business said it would, or what you asked for and can’t easily be fixed.

it is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time

it does not meet the specific purpose you asked for and cannot easily be fixed within a reasonable time

it creates an unsafe situation. (Taken from the ACCC website).

We are now waiting for the return of the third pillow top and if it still does not comply to the description of comfort and support which we were told and showed in the showroom, we should be entitled to a refund.

Hard as concrete – Nope, worst mattress we've ever bought, over $2000. We tried for a year, we bought a topper which they tried to soften. We couldn't sleep on it, we both ended up with back and neck problems. We relegated it to the shed, bought a Sleepmaker, heaven.

Extremely satisfied – I've had the bellissimo duet firm in Queen size for about 15 months and I think it's fantastic. I have a history of back problems and I've had less problems since having this mattress (admittedly any new mattress is possibly going to be better than the old one it replaces). rotate it regularly enough and if you sit up in bed for long periods, which concentrates your weight over a smaller area. Thst will generally be a problem with any mattress though.

If you rotate regularly though and try to limit sitting or standing on the mattress it doesn't seem to be a problem.

The other thing that helps with rotation is the fact you can sleep on both sides of the mattress so you can rotate to more different orientations.

This is something that is getting hard to find in a mattress, with lots of other brands only doing single sided mattresses.

I rotate mine every month or two but you may have to do it more or less often depending on your body weight.

One of my worries with moving to a latex mattress was the potential to get too hot in my sleep but that hadn't been an issue either.

Overall I'm very impressed with the mattress and would buy again or recommend to a friend.

soften it, I made it clear that I did NOT want a pillow top as these were excessively hot and I wanted medium softness. What I got was a separate pillow top, unbearably hot but softer. Back again, and they said they would give me a new mattress with pocketted springs,(no refund) but they referred to the original order and gave me a firm mattress again. Too Hard. Back again, and to their credit, they ( Adelaide) said they would now add 50mm of medium foam to the top and bottom which they did, but with so much foam it retained excessive amounts of heat again and was very uncomfortable even on a cold night. If I wanted a foam mattress I could have gone to the Rubber store and saved $1500. I have now bought a much better mattress from Galligans for much less and is perfect. The Bellissimo is donated to the Salvos, the only other option was the dump. Never again.

Waste of money – We bought this mattress and within a few months my back, hips and shoulders were killing me. It was very expensive and I thought it was just me so I am reassured to read other reviews. The first mattress we bought through Makin was excellent and lasted 10 years, but the second mattress was appalling. We are more than happy with the mattress we have bought and I would say some of my first nights on the new mattress were some of the best sleep I had had for some time. What appealed to us most with this product is that one of us can toss and turn, get up and down and there is minimal movement in the mattress to disturb the other. Also being able to truly flip and rotate not only the mattress but the separate pillow top (added to take it from firm to medium) was very important as we were replacing a pillow top that could only be rotated and needed replacing after only 5 years.

We also grabbed a couple of the memory foam pillows. I love mine although due to the firmness it did take some getting used to but that was mostly because of the poor quality one it was replacing. My husband is still on the fence but my mother who borrowed it for a couple of nights has vigorously put her hand up if he decides to pass.
