Purchased my Makita DLM464 in April 2023. It has been used about a dozen times since purchase and lightweight work. This thing fails to start on correct ignition/engagement process. Is this a known fault? If so is there a fix or does this become a painful return and warranty claim?

DLM 461 runs at 2500 rpm till it hits hard grass, then ramps up to 3300 rpm DLM 464 runs at 3300 rpm on normal, and has a quiet mode button to run at 2500 rpm.

Have you used both, which is better? Neighbours says there one sucks, whereas he sees what I cut down at rental with DLM461 and is amazed. Don't know what model he has.

Hi I have been Makita mower DLM464 and I find the red lever on top is pretty heavy to keep holding in is there an easy fix for this maybe a lighter spring for the bottom. Regards Graeme

Hi Graeme. Yes, it is heavy to hold, as I (and others) observed in my review (https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/dac2ff4a-b439-420f-a242-441d6316762f). Have you noticed that it only becomes stiff after you hold in the 'switch button' to activate the power? When the mower is powered down, the lever is very easy to pull. That suggests to me that there's no easy fix for this—it's an integral part of the design.

This is something I've just accepted about this mower, but you could always phone Makita support and ask them about it. The more negative feedback they receive about it, the more likely it will filter through to their design team and they might reconsider this 'feature' in future models.

OzToolTalk's YouTube review of the DLM461 (the DLM464's predecessor), mentions the problem with the safety bar being hard to hold in because of the tension. They put it down to the fact that Makita use a mechanical cable connecting the safety bar to the motor rather than an electronic connection like most other manufacturers do.
