Terrible quality product and terrible customer service. Went off grid first time in our XT10E anniversary model about 1.5 yrs old and the solar system wasn’t charging the battery. Reached out to MDC for help via their online form as no one was available on the weekend. No response so had to leave camping and come home. Few days later Thomas from… Read more
MDC responded with a sales pitch email. Advised him I was was seeking some help with the solar and was told to see an auto electrician…. I reminded him how new the van was and that it was the first time we were using the solar off grid. I asked if I could bring it in for someone to look at it and he then escalated the issue to their advocate Steve Zammit. It’s now been 2 weeks and 3 follow ups later I’ve heard nothing back. Worst after sales support ever. Sad thing is the Facebook group for MDC XT10’s owners offered more support and help than MDC. Unfortunately everyone has told us that the Projecta system is useless and everyone has replaced it but MDC continues to install it and offer no support. We loved our little van and now after going off grid we just want to get rid of it before anything else goes wrong as they don’t offer any support whatsoever.

No after sales service or warranty – I have had a leaking roof, broken awning, TV doesn’t pick up channels, heater doesn’t work, and multiple other issues which they refuse to fix. Don’t buy these caravans. Legitimate warranty claims are denied and all after sales repairs outsourced. A direct quote from one repairer “cheap overseas crap”. Avoid these vans and this company. MDC XT15HR – We are seasoned campers having spent two years camping around Aus with a camping trailer doing all the 4x4 attractions, Cape York, Kimberleys etc. We purchased our XT15HR second hand (12 months old) for a very affordable price (I couldn't afford not to buy it). I was terrified I'd bought a lemon. That couldn't be further from the truth. It's a… Read more
great bit of gear. We took it away for 10 days over the Easter period. We travelled wet greasy tracks from Dalmorton through Chalundi State Forest (NP) in the rain to Ebor then out to Bingara on as many dirt roads as we could find. Dry, dusty, sometimes corrugated. The van performed brilliantly. We struggled to keep the batteries charged, when not travelling, due to lack of sun (not the fault of the van) and the shower doesn't drain as good as it could. I've got a simple fix for that. I called MDC today, unbeknownst to me they were closed but Jannette took my call. She provided me with the info I was after without hesitation. In short, we couldn't be happier with our MDC XT15HR thus far.

The Little Van with the Lot! – We have recently taken delivery of our MDC Forbes 12+ after purchasing is at the Sydney Caravan & Camping Expo. We went armed with a clip-board, spreadsheet and a long list of questions - ready to get the answers we wanted from all the distributors of hybrids at the show. We met Luke Sheldon at the MDC stand and he very patiently addressed every… Read more
question we had and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable with the MDC range. At 5'2' I needed to know that I could manage the Hybrid setup, and at 6'2" hubby needed to know he would fit! We're loving our van, and have received heaps of interest from other people, but due to Covid, we haven't been able to use it as much as hoped :( We're planning on one day making the 'big loop' and might even go visit Luke, to thank him for spending his time, helping us make this decision :)
2012 T Box – I have had this soft floor trailer since Sept 2012 done many happy KMs on some of Australia's roughest roads after 8 years only 1 small problem a flat tyre tent and trailer 5 star. In the 8 years only needed to replace the tent cover purchased through MDC spares great service and fast delivery. Soon to upgrade to either a forward fold or XT. Wouldn't buy anything but a MDC. Fears not realised – I had a lot of anxiety going into the purchase of a camper as they are an expensive item, normally stretching the common family past their actual needs but offering a much better camping experience. A lot of begging and wife points are needed to buy one and any issues are usually face destroying and embarrassing for the poor bloke. There are many… Read more
horror stories online and I just wanted to spend hard earned money on something that works and would live up to the promise.
With this anxiety in place, I looked at the Explorer FF ($15k) with my wife and kids up at the Newcastle showroom and after a bit of tyre kicking and convincing the decision maker how much this would benefit the family, we were seriously considering the Explorer FF. The Jackson FF ($20k) was more suited to our needs but outside of our price point. On the drive home the missus somehow decided that if we are going in for $15k then we should make sure we are happy with the purchase and spend the extra $5k for the Jackson. Not sure what she is repenting for but at least I would have somewhere to live.
Upon calling the Newcastle dealership after I returned home, I found out I would be charged $800 for freighting it down from Brisbane to Newcastle or Sydney which wasn't mentioned during my initial discussion. This combined with the rego (~$500 for 1525kg trailer and the insurance ~$360 through NRMA) and an electric brake controller (TowPro v3 installed ~$650) would push the on road cost out to over $22,000.
I initially smsed the Newcastle dealer to ask if the Explorer comes with a water gauge like the Jackson but didn't get a response as it was late in the evening. Impatient and keen to strike whilst the iron was hot, I ended up calling the 24x7 online sales number and Steve B. in Brisbane answered. He agreed to waive the transport fee of $800 and sent a quotation through to that effect that night.
I ended up putting the deposit down and had a 3 week wait time for delivery to Sydney. Steve B. was quite patient with me as I was concerned that Covid would shut down NSW to ACT and wanted to make sure I could get up there to pick it up before any closures occurred. I was calling every other day and he was always available to talk and keep me informed. He also has somewhat of a splendid mullet in the youtube videos which is quite endearing.
Once I picked the trailer up from Sydney, I returned home and found that a pantry drawer runner had problems and threw its bearings all over the place. I called Steve B. and he advised to put in a warranty claim which I did and I was contacted the next day and advised I would be sent a new runner and a local reparier would fit it. As there were none in stock it will be a 6 week wait. I managed to donkey it back together and the drawer kind of works so it is not a major issue but I need to be careful with it until it is repaired.
The other issue I had is that I lost a slide bolt and R pin from the boat rack after forgetting to replace it after removing it to close it. I emailed Steve B. and he organsied for a new one to be shipped to me with no questions asked. This was unexpected but appreciated as I was at fault.
If this is the way MDC treats all of their customers, then you should feel confident in a purchase from them. These trailers are made in China and yes there will probably be small problems. How these problems are dealt with is the important thing. I would be confident to refer MDC to friends and colleagues as they have been a great company to work with so far. They have a great library of videos online and good after sales service.
I will be showcasing and reviewing the trailer in future Youtube videos on 'Dugies all Australian 4x4 Outback Offroad 4WD Adventures' channel.
Chris.

Lodged warranty claim with MDC approximately 17/02/21 - MDC requested I take the camper to a repairer even after they knew the brakes were not working - After I advised them it was illegal to tow and dangerous, they then attempted to have me pay for towing - I refused and sent them the ACC link which indicates responsibilities for towing. - in the mean time as I needed the trailer fixed I arranged for a service and repair of the brakes from a mobile mechanic - MDC contacted this mobile mechanic and advised him they will pay for call out cost and diagnosis, and asked them to contact when on the road side to provide information - Brakes were inspected and serviced and very far out of adjustment - The mobile mechanic called me and advised that he didn't want to speak with MDC as they were arrogant and rude - The Mobile mechanic sent the invoice for the works to me which I forwarded onto MDC - MDC threatened legal action and accused me of fraud for sending the invoice to them - after further argument they offered to contribute $40 to the invoice for the diagnosis and advised it was not a warranty issue. - After dealing with the Mobile mechanic I ended up paying for the cost of service and leaving the cost diagnosis and call out to MDC which MDC have never paid, and the mobile mechanic continues to chase me for the monies owing. - Went away for Easter 30/03 first time using the van since its repair - Travelling down a hill near Thredbo and noticed same symptoms - Pulled over and checked brakes, one side extremely hot and other side just warm - allowed to cool down roadside for about 2 hours and continued on to camp site - upon driving down hill into camp grounds lost all brakes in the camper trailer. - contacted MDC and advised of the returning issue - MDC requested I lodge a new warranty claim - MDC opened new warranty ticket on my behalf - I reminded MDC that the repairer will need to be mobile as the trailer cannot be towed safely without brakes. - MDC have refused to arrange a mobile repairer stating that it is not practical, and have also now refused to tow the camper trailer to the mechanic. Their words taken from email as per below.
Hi [Name Removed],
"At this stage MDC will not be providing a tow truck to get your van to the repairer. Once your van has been inspected and should the determination confirm a manufacturing issue, it will be at this point MDC will review your invoice for consideration".
My regret is that I read the other reviews about how this shocking company deals with warranty claims.
This is ongoing and has now been escalated via Fair Trading and ACCC

questions. Living in NSW my caravan was transferred to the Sydney store once it was built. This was easy and the pick up was easy. The demonstration was thorough and easy to follow. The caravan is extremely well made and comes with so many additional extras that make the value superb. The size of the interior space and the beds is all excellent. The proper adult sized single bed is an excellent addition to the caravan.

camper on, once again the brakes had completely failed. I put in another warranty claim again. That was 7 weeks ago. Apart from the usual “we will get back to you” or “sorry that person doesn’t work here anymore please be patient” my $26000 camper sits at my house unusable. I am meant to be going on a months holiday starting this week and have had to cancel the trip. So just a heads up for anyone who wants to buy a MDC camper. Sales are very quick to sell you the goods with all the promises in the world if something was to go wrong. But the reality is the warranty and after sales teams are and without putting $100 in the swear jar. They are just simply pathetic. I will never buy one again and I am very seriously contimplating selling this pile of crap. My friends who were interested in buying one of these have now also seen multiple other customers having great difficulty with warranty claims and are spending their hard earned money elsewhere. I wish I did too

MDC Jackson FF – Had the Jackson FF for a couple of months. Second trip out and loving it. Only issues we’ve had are operator error and the strip lights were wired back to front - easy fixed after a quick email to MDC. One tip we got from the guys at hand over was to put a damp rid type thing in the camper. I reckon it’s saved us. We packed it up dry however after two weeks the pot had a fair bit of moisture in it. Love my XT12! – Bought an XT12 in 2016. It has been amazing to travel in. Slightly on the heavy side but worth it in off-road quality. Have done about 40000 km so far and only minor issues. Well worth the price. Great van!

Happy campers – We love our compact xt12. So easy to tow and park. Everything we need in a van. We purchased ours off the showroom floor at 12 months old. Everything works perfect. Great for a lady driver to manage and set up. Good informative and helpful staff. Very happy.
MDC this isn't camping it's clamping – Our XT15HR is the Best value for money van on the market in my opinion and after sales service has been flawless & if you ever have a problem don't even think of ringing up with a angry attitude because the friendly staff will always make you feel happy & you will be because they stand by their product.
Fantastic Van! – We have owned an XT12 now for 2 years . It has been fantastic and we have taken it over some very tough terrain. We have done approximately 40,000 km with it . We have two kids (1 and 2 year old) and the set up is perfect.
Four years later still rapt in our MDC – It’s been four years since we’ve purchased our mdc soft floor trailer and in then that time it’s travelled almost 25,000klm and allowed my family and I to experience so much of this great country. We’ve had a couple of small issues but always fixed no fuss with great service. Been able to camp with other owners and staff also. My next upgrade which will be a hard floor will be another MDC.
