The technicians who came out to fix my Evaporative Air Cooler (It turned out all I had to do was flick the circuit breaker in the fuse box) were polite and knowledgeable. Unfortunately not so the service co-ordinator who I found to be very rude.

Had evaporative aircon installed by them some years ago, was never satisfied it was quite right/ strong enough to do the job, it eventually packed up, getting a quote to replace it, the chap recommended going up two sizes confirming for me the lack of understanding of the basics by the sales people

My partner was charged $400 for a service and a quote which was over $1,100 to fix our ducted air conditioner. They quoted $750 for a new internal fan motor and $100 for a new capacitor plus $250 labour. We thought the fan motor was a rip off because we had priced checked them online and the dearest we could find one for was $450. So, we ordered a… Read more

brand new one delivered to our door for the fan motor $300 and the capacitor $100 all from Statewide Appliance Spares and installed it ourselves. Our air conditioner now works perfect thanks to YouTube videos which gave us clues on how to install the items we purchased. We also did a better job than professionals because we washed and cleaned the internal rotor blades and housing which would not have been done by the professionals.

Comically bad service and poor installation – Comically bad service, like if you got bad AI to write up a show with just the worst cliches of having to deal with shifty tradespeople. If you do nothing else, just avoid these guys like the plague. The installation of our Actron AC unit was so poorly done I've had to replace the unit completely after just over 7 years. Maroondah was contracted… Read more

by my builder to install our unit. We didn't have a lot to do with them, but it seemed to go okay. I've felt compelled to continue to try to deal with them for the last 7 years as they were the installers on a unit under warranty.

To be honest, part of me gets some weird amusement dealing with them, a sort of "what are they going to do this time?" type of anticipation I guess?

The latest debacle with these guys, in a long line of them...

The AC is not pumping cold air. I check the unit, which handily gives me an error message (E6) that I learn means there's no gas. When I last dealt with Maroondah it was about potentially relocating the unit, so I remembered that they prepped the unit for moving and (presumably) started bleeding the gas out.

Calling them up, I let them know the error message, booking someone to come out four days later. Conveniently, they have me the standard 3-4 hour window they might turn up. And then proceeded to turn up over an hour later than that.

The guy shows up, then rings me to let me know the gas is out. Now he's all caught up, he tells me I'll need to schedule ANOTHER call out to work out why there's no gas and check for leaks. And once that is done, I'll need to book ANOTHER call out to actually gas it up. Just champagne trades logic at play here.

So what was the purpose of his initial call out? I'm guessing it's just to collect the call out fee, to confirm what we already knew four days prior?

Now that the unit is out of builders warranty I'm glad to be done with them, though I will miss the stories I'll get to share.

Here's a video for your enjoyment...

Heating and Cooling – Had Maroondah Heating and Cooling installed a Panasonic reverse cycle heating and air conditioner. Fast Quote and request for a deposit payment then after several cancellations and reschedules they installed unit. They did some damage to my roof by not sealing the tiles and internal plaster due to bending and splitting a water pipe in the roof… Read more

that caused damage to cornice, plaster and paint work. Made several calls to fix a range of issues and after even more calls got the same results, "will get back to you ASAP". They did finally send staff out and made some improvements. Have made more calls to fix air pressure due to some vents producing low pressure. Same response from office staff! "will talk to management and get back to you ASAP". Three weeks later and still waiting for a returned call. Good at getting the job installed and once paid after service is crap! Will take my complaint further due to lack of interest from Maroondah Heating and Cooling. Thought I would support local business!!!!!

Avoid! At all costs!! – I was originally told my heating installation was a 2 day job, 8 days and 4 call outs later still plagued with problems. Day after day of being told “it’s all finished” I come home to find another problem. Return air grill looks like it was cutout and mounted by a 4 year old, and 70mm off centre. Return air box not even sealed. 2 of the floor… Read more

vents not even attached, with the duct pipes just flapping about and bellowing out hot air under the house. Zoning for the 3 zones all programmed wrong. I could go on all day but the bottom line is, this dismal level of service is not what you’d expect for a $15k+ job

Amazing Service. I called the office after the control panel to our ducted heating 'died' and Brea in the service department went above and beyond to fast track the technician's availability (after I explained my husband is at home with a terminal illness). The next day Kevin came out and fixed the issue. Both Brea and Kevin are standout employees and we are so very grateful for their incredible service and support.

Extremely dissatisfied with the service. Someone came to service my air conditioner and the guy was on his phone which looked like he was texting most of the time. which is on the roof wasn’t touched and I was told he would come back when it’s dry, ok fair enough. However I was sent the invoice immediately and phoned a couple of times for the money. Really ! what about customer satisfaction and reliability. I certainly don’t want you on my roof texting. You broke the trust. A lot of money for doing hardly nothing. Money is the main interest with this company and not customer satisfaction. Try going to Coles asking for two chickens and you will take both and pay for only one and the other one in a few weeks and that’s only a few dollars we are talking about. Do the Full job and send your invoice, not half of the job. I couldn’t trust you to even come back. Disgusting service.

Money isn't the only important thing in life; customers matter too – We have used the services of Maroondah Heating and Cooling since 2006. I am sorry to say that their work seems to have gone a bit downhill since then. They were recommended to me by a tiler I know well. The first time they installed a ducted gas heating system at my house it was done very professionally. Their workers never made the one mistake… Read more

that nearly all tradies make when they come to a house where brown-skinned people live: telling said people that their choices are wrong and the Anglo way is better. I called the CEO at the time and congratulated him on his workers' professionalism.

This was underlined some seven years later when the remote control of this first system started playing up. One of their staff came over and tried to fix it. He made six or seven visits and when he finally had to admit defeat and replace it with a manual control (attached by a wire), he only charged me for the cost of the device. All those trips were off his own interest. I was full of admiration at his professionalism.

So we called them back in 2019 when we needed to replace the ducted system as the motherboard of the heater had failed and these units are no longer being made. This install, too, went smoothly.

Recently, we decided to replace the gas system with an electric one. We called Maroondah and their adviser came by. He was very professional and advised me against putting in an electric system in the ceiling space (which would have cost us close to $20,000), instead pointing out that with all the reverse cycle units in my house, another two would provide sufficient heating. He could well have kept silent and gone with my idea so his firm would make a lot more money. I was impressed by his professionalism.

But thereafter there were a few screw-ups. This consultant drew up a map for installation of two reverse-cycle units and an electric water heater. I was happy with the quote and Maroondah set a date for the reverse cycle units to be installed. But the guy who landed that first day, a Tuesday, was not up to the job; he came and asked _me_ where the units should be installed. I know nothing about heating or cooling. I asked him to follow whatever instructions the company had given him. Then he asked me how he could bring in the bigger of the two units into the house. I opened the swivel doors in the lounge and showed him.

After that he went out and I saw him talking on his phone. Then the consultant called me and asked why I had told the installer I could not show him where to put the units. I responded that I had said I could show him the rooms but not the positions as I was no expert at that and he (the consultant) had decided that based on his knowledge and experience. He did not seem happy at my response.

After that, the installer suddenly left. God knows why, he never told me. The company called me a little while later and said he had gone because he was not suited to the job at hand and that another guy would come the next day, a Wednesday. When this second guy came with his helper, things went smoothly - until the man who had to remove the existing gas strip heater turned up. This chap's work was really shoddy; that strip heater has been there since we moved in and there were loads of cobwebs behind it. He did not bother to clean up. And he turned off the pilot light for my existing gas water heater and went away, something I did not notice until Saturday that week as I am the only person in the house and I use hot water only for my daily shower.

On Saturday morning, as I was getting ready to go to my daughter's house, while shaving I felt the water was a trifle cold. My shower was even worse. [It reminded me of the time in 1998 when the Longford gas plant blew up and we had to take cold showers in the middle of winter.] I had no time to look at the heater at that time, and had to put off an inspection of the heater to Sunday.

When I looked on Sunday it became obvious to me that there was no combustion taking place - in other words, the flame had gone out. I was unsure whether gas was coming in or not and after a few efforts to light the pilot light failed, I gave up. This heater has no window that shows the pilot light; one has to lie flat on the ground to see if it has been ignited, something I did not know until a guy from Maroondah came by on Monday and showed me how to see the pilot light. I did not want to test if gas was coming into the system or not as I did not want to blow up anything. So I made a complaint on the Maroondah website.

Early on Monday, I got an email from a Maroondah official apologising for what had happened and promising to send someone over within an hour. True to this pledge, a man turned up and lit the pilot light. But I had to wait until evening for the water to get hot. After two days without a shower, I was not exactly in a good mood. I replied to the manager's email and told him that the invoice would have to be reduced by at least $250 for the casual way in which the gas guy had done his work. I got no reply.

A few days later, the chaps who were installing the water heater came by. That went smoothly until the afternoon when someone called and asked whether it was okay for the electrician to come by the next day. I did not mince my words, telling this chap that they would have to reduce the amount to be paid by them even more if this was going to be the case. As it turned out, this worked. The electrician came by after an hour or so and made the necessary connections. By night-fall I had hot water coming in from the new heater.

When I spoke to the consultant to thank him for his advice, I also told him about reducing the amount on the invoice due to the screw-ups I had had to endure. He flatly refused and that, more than anything, told me everything about the current set-up at Maroondah. If $250 matters more to a firm of this size than a satisfied return customer, then something has changed and not for the better either. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?

Terrible Experience with Maroondah Service – I recently had a highly disappointing experience with Maroondah Service regarding the repair of my Sealer Braemer heater. I called them for assistance, and they sent a contractor to assess the problem. To my surprise, the contractor arrived only to inform me that he wouldn't touch the heater due to supposed compliance issues. This left me puzzled… Read more

and frustrated, as I had previously hired two contractors from different companies who resolved separate issues with the heater without mentioning any compliance concerns. Dissatisfied with their unhelpful contractor, I decided to seek help from another service provider. Just one day later, a different contractor arrived and managed to resolve the issue within half an hour. It is baffling to me how Maroondah Service failed to address the problem while the subsequent contractor could fix it so swiftly. To add insult to injury, Maroondah Service has the audacity to charge me $143 as a call-out fee, claiming it is for the contractor's visit. It is worth noting that the original price they quoted me for the repair was $280, which makes their call-out fee almost half of the original cost. It is outrageous that they charged me such an exorbitant fee for a visit that lasted less than half an hour, during which the contractor didn't even bother to open the lid and identify the issue. Despite my attempts to reason with them and request a resolution, Maroondah Service has stubbornly refused to acknowledge their shortcomings or provide any satisfactory remedy. I am now left with no choice but to escalate the matter to consumer affairs and pursue legal action if necessary. I am genuinely puzzled as to how Maroondah Service managed to receive five-star ratings from some customers. Based on my experience, they deserve zero stars for their lackluster service, unprofessional conduct, and unreasonable fees. I strongly advise others to steer clear of this company and explore more reliable alternatives for their heating and repair needs.

Insane call out fees for doing nothing! – Waited over a week for a repair man to come out to look at a broken Brivis ducted gas heater which I advised them it was a very old unit. Turns out he didn't install new units, he'd have to… Read more

book someone else to come out and quote on that- with another week+ wait with no heating! The bill for this 'service' was just under $250 - for literally 10 mins to tell me my heater was old! The supposed 'sweetener' is they would waive $100 of this bill if I bought a new unit from them... I don't think I've been charged this kind of call out fee for emergency plumbers, let alone something I booked for a weekday a week in advance. Incidentally the price they quoted on a new unit was not cheaper than other places even accounting for their 'get some of your own money back' scheme. Needless to say I went with another company for the new unit and I'm glad I did!

Disappointing – A heating unit that was thoroughly serviced by this company failed after five months (over summer/early autumn). I was asked to pay another callout fee to have the service person tell me that the heater needed replacement. Would I like a quote? No thanks, I'll go elsewhere. Prompt? Yes. Effective? No. Value for money? Little. Bill for disappointing service paid most reluctantly.
