If I could give a ZERO star, I WOULD! Don't start with Medibank otherwise you are STUCK for the life of your pet!
- Commence insurance back in 2018 for $71 per month
- 2020 price has hiked to $95 with absolute NO clear and justified explanation as to why it is more expensive to what was offered on the website. I was told: price of vet around my post code, age of the dog, previous history of the dog ever since joining medibank.
- Called to ask for a discount or reduce policy, was told if I were to do that or move to another supplier. Another supplier will deem my previous claim as a pre-conditioned issue. So basically im stuck.
Do not start with Medibank UNLESS you are prepared to be there for the life of your pet because they know YOU ARE STUCK!
Worst insurance ever I have dealt with.
They come up with a lot when it comes to claiming, I was told I can’t make any changes to my policy until the anniversary date. I wouldn’t recommend medibank pet insurance and would score below 1 if possible.
Trying to cancel. Still haven’t been successful
The policy was chosen as it had the most competitive price for service at the time.
We have had a few claims with our accident prone dog. Their online claims portal is easy to use and upload documents.
The hard part is when it comes to settling the claim. The latest one took over 4 weeks for them to settle. This included calling to follow up. They are only available during business hours. Which can be a bit tricky to be able to sit on hold when you also work business hours.
Currently trying to cancel policy so we can go to RSPCA pet insurance. They are only open business hours and every time we call we get placed on hold for long periods of time for the call to be disconnected.
We are now trying to email to cancel..
Have top cover for my pets at Medibank refused a claim for blood test. Don’t recommend Medibank Andrew Williams
Been with Medibank Pet insurance for over 10 years. First blood test for hyper thyroidism rebate as expected. Second blood test For hyper thyroidism with no rebate as they Medibank called it a blood screen. It was actually a second blood test. Don’t recommend as it appears they use word screening to get out of paying rebate when it was actually a blood test. Andrew Williams
Ultimately not very good
I don’t feel this is good value Pet insurance. When you claim you’ll pay the excess, say $200, then get paid out 80% of the balance of your claim, if you’re lucky. If you’re not lucky they’ll take the invoices and separate the claim into different parts and then deny the bits they think they can get away with.
As for the $15000 annual limit, well another neat trick to look out for is the “Consultation annual sub-limit of $300” which they slip into the certificate of insurance.
My vet recommends pre-operation bloods for the safety of the dog du...

Crazy increased premium....
We are with Medibank pet insurance since 2018. We've just got email from them regarding the renewal of our policy. When we read it, we're shocked.
Our current annual premium is $771. But, new premium is $1000.
It's crazy increase with no detailed explanation. I understand why Medibank pet insurance has very low review rating. If you don't want crazy increased premium, avoid this company.
Excellent. Easy to claim and fast approval
My 16 weeks old Toy Poodle had an accidental fracture that needed a very expensive surgery to repair. Medibank has been amazing and we couldn’t recommend the ultimate policy high enough. After paying more that $5000 in Vet Fees ( surgery, overnight stays, medication etc) a claim was made and 80% of what we paid was back in our back account within 48hs of submission. Very Happy Customers.
Paying of a claim
Worst company I have ever dealt with, keep saying bank is rejecting the money they owe me, have rung at least 8times, get nowhere with them. Always an excuse. Have been with company for 10 years, I want want I am entitled to.
Charging after the pet has been Euthanised
The last claim clearly states "final vet trip- euthanasia", which was approved, paid and recorded against the policy yet they choose to carry on deducting premiums for a dead pet??

Fantastic service when we needed it most
We had insured our pets with another high profile insurance company that always made it difficult to claim. Luckily we switched to Medibank this year. Within a few months our beloved dog was diagnosed with advanced heart disease. It was totally unexpected and hugely expensive to buy him a few more months of life. It was the sort of situation where pet insurance is vital because it meant we could make decisions based on considerations other than financial ones. Medibank processed each claim seamlessly within 48 hours, no requests for cumbersome...paperwork (they liaised directly with our vet rather than putting this extra stress on us) and were kind enough to send their condolences when our beloved boy passed away this week. I can’t thank Medibank enough for making what was a difficult time, financially and emotionally, much easier.
This has kept my dog alive and me not broke, Must have for any pet lover.
Good value, No hidden clauses, Just good fast service and reimbursement without any hassle. Noone should be without it. With high costs for medical services you will save in the long run.
Very easy to claim, great communication not hassle
We had Medibank pet insurance for our dog for over 11 years, only claimed a couple of times but always a quick easy hassle free process. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and we spent over $2000 in tests and scans, Medibank paid 85% of the bills and was great not stressing about how much everything will cost and we could just focus on diagnoses and treatment. We were paid bank within a couple of days of the claim being lodged. Reading the poor reviews is frustrating as it’s all common sense to why you got a poor outcome eg- can’t claim on ...preventable treatments such as tooth decay, or Medibank needing All vet details When making a claim- this is stated when joining to ensure there was no pre existing conditions. Conclusion is yes you pay a lot of money for pet insurance, you hope you never have to use it but when you do your glad you had it as vets can be seriously expensive and you dont ever want to Put a price in your loved ones health
Not informed of policy renewal
I have been with Medibank for my pet insurance for 5 years now. A loyal customer. They failed to send me a renewal policy for my little dog and so I notice I have begun being charged another $15 a month and call them up to ask why. They claim they emailed me the policy renewal because there is a “note” in the system someone did it but I have received no such email. Every year when I do receive them I am able to call them up to change the cover to suit my financial capabilities. They say there’s nothing they can do, we are past the cooling off p...eriod, and it’s not their fault I didn’t get the email. Well it’s not mine so why do I have to financially suffer? They give me 2 free months after arguing my point, at first they could do no better than one free month fullstop. Lies. 2 free months still doesn’t cover the out of pocket costs for the very high policy amount and it also doesn’t cover the fact that going forward my insurance will now continue to rise from such a high amount. I got no justification as to why this happened and really no solution except covering 2 months, which still doesn’t cut it, when they were at fault, and they weren’t nice to deal with about this or apologetic at all.

Terrible pet insurance. Inferior PDS.
Recently, I claimed for my pet's cruciate ligament. My certificate shows annual limit for cruciate is $2600.
But, they paid just $2400. They said it includes $200 excess fee. But, PDS and certificate doesn't show that any excess fee applies to sub-limit. When I asked, they said Benefit limit and sub-limit are same. If they are same, they must cover more. My Benefit limit is $15000.
Also, annual vet consultation fee limit is $300. But, there is no details how I can claim it and when I can claim it. I believe their PDS is really inferior. I will escalate this issue to AFCA.
Did anything they could to get out of having to pay
I took out a high level of Medibank pet insurance a number of years ago when I was also an employee of the overall Medibank group. I paid insurance for my dog for several years and then finally a substantial cancer was discovered in his side which needed to be cut out. It was a complicated procedure which cost nearly $2000. I went to claim, and Medibank required me to provide records from the vet, which was fine, totally understandable. HOWEVER, as I'd listed on my initial application for the insurance that I also used another vet, they req...uired me to go to that vet and obtain proof that my dog had not had the condition previously, ie, trying to get out of having to pay if it was a known pre-existing condition. It was NOT a pre-existing condition, however, I was unable to get documentation from the previous vet as while I had used them in the past, I had not taken this particular dog to them at any stage, and they could not be bothered providing me with a letter to say so. (Annoying, but also totally understandable, as it had nothing to do with them, and I had long not used their business.) I advised Medibank I had NEVER used this vet for my current dog as I was now using the newer vet surgery closer to where I lived, and they could see the history of that I had been taking my dog to this particular surgery for a number of years. But as I was not able to provide proof from the original vet that my dog hadn't seen them previously for anything connected to this particular claim, they rejected my claim. When I went to cancel, they attempted delaying tactics. Ie, I was on the phone with them on my day off and they said the claims section was really busy, could they call me back within 2 days (ummm, that would be when I would be busy back at work working for Medibank and can't take phone calls at work...) I said, no, I am on the phone right now and it's first thing in the morning and I will wait to talk to someone so I can cancel my policy today. Great customer service, Medibank, not!
Not worth the money
We had been paying top Gold-paws cover for our cat for at least 9 years which means we’ve paid thousands of dollars that we just haven’t seen any value for. We’ve not claimed very often but when we have claimed, we never seem to get very much back. Our most recent claim was a real eye-opener. Our cat had her teeth cleaned and required a tooth extraction and the total cost was $598 for which we only received $60 back when we claimed. There are so many things that just aren’t covered, even when you have top cover and getting money back on ‘ext...ras’ just isn’t worth it, you get so little back. We are kicking ourselves now that we just didn’t open up a separate bank account years ago and stash the money in there for vet bills or emergencies. The final kick in the teeth came yesterday when I cancelled our policy, it seems that because we have made a claim in this 12-month coverage period (which ends early September) we still have to pay the premiums up until September even though we aren’t covered anymore – this on top of the thousands we’ve already paid. We’ve now opened up a designated savings account and are putting money in there for future vet bills. I'd advise anyone considering pet insurance to really do your sums and see if you think it is worth it - for us, it certainly wasn't.
Do not touch with a barge poll
Don’t waste your money. They grasp at straws to not pay out! They charged me 2 lots of excess for one consult because there were 2 seperate conditions. They should be ashamed of themselves especially in this climate. This is why insurers get a bad name because they’ll do anything to keep your money
Fantastic insurance cover & service
We insured our beloved late 13yr old dachshund Benji with Medibank! Well what can i say but they have been fantastic throughout our journey with our baby - always there for information when i called, helpful, polite and got the job done. Claims done swiftly, money paid in quickly and without them we could not have given our darling Benji the care and treatment he required in his 13 years in our forever home. I would highly recommend them and if we have another fur baby will most defenitely use them again. Thank you Medibank and also for your kind message after the passing of our beloved Benji....
Pet insurance increase by 40% in one month
Would never use them again with our next dog. They increase the premiums by a ridiculous amount because your dog is getting older even though we have insurance for ten years with them on the same dog. Absolutely disgusted. Will change our health insurance as well because of this disgusting act by them.
Ultimate pet care is Ultimate rip off!
Worst insurance in the market. Never again will I insure pet through this mob. Every claim submitted has $200 excess deducted, so am reimbursed sqwat. May as well not submit claim for anything.

For the claim what is the meaning of Pet History . Do you need vet history from the birth. I got my pup when he was 8 weeks old and he didn't have a vet visit prior to that because he was a health puppy. His first vet check up was around 8 weeks old and didn't have any health issues so far. If I make a claim in the future would it be ok to have pet vet history from 8 weeks old.
