Did anything they could to get out of having to pay
I took out a high level of Medibank pet insurance a number of years ago when I was also an employee of the overall Medibank group. I paid insurance for my dog for several years and then finally a substantial cancer was discovered in his side which needed to be cut out. It was a complicated procedure which cost nearly $2000. I went to claim, and Medibank required me to provide records from the vet, which was fine, totally understandable. HOWEVER, as I'd listed on my initial application for the insurance that I also used another vet, they req...uired me to go to that vet and obtain proof that my dog had not had the condition previously, ie, trying to get out of having to pay if it was a known pre-existing condition. It was NOT a pre-existing condition, however, I was unable to get documentation from the previous vet as while I had used them in the past, I had not taken this particular dog to them at any stage, and they could not be bothered providing me with a letter to say so. (Annoying, but also totally understandable, as it had nothing to do with them, and I had long not used their business.) I advised Medibank I had NEVER used this vet for my current dog as I was now using the newer vet surgery closer to where I lived, and they could see the history of that I had been taking my dog to this particular surgery for a number of years. But as I was not able to provide proof from the original vet that my dog hadn't seen them previously for anything connected to this particular claim, they rejected my claim. When I went to cancel, they attempted delaying tactics. Ie, I was on the phone with them on my day off and they said the claims section was really busy, could they call me back within 2 days (ummm, that would be when I would be busy back at work working for Medibank and can't take phone calls at work...) I said, no, I am on the phone right now and it's first thing in the morning and I will wait to talk to someone so I can cancel my policy today. Great customer service, Medibank, not!
Not worth the money
We had been paying top Gold-paws cover for our cat for at least 9 years which means we’ve paid thousands of dollars that we just haven’t seen any value for. We’ve not claimed very often but when we have claimed, we never seem to get very much back. Our most recent claim was a real eye-opener. Our cat had her teeth cleaned and required a tooth extraction and the total cost was $598 for which we only received $60 back when we claimed. There are so many things that just aren’t covered, even when you have top cover and getting money back on ‘ext...ras’ just isn’t worth it, you get so little back. We are kicking ourselves now that we just didn’t open up a separate bank account years ago and stash the money in there for vet bills or emergencies. The final kick in the teeth came yesterday when I cancelled our policy, it seems that because we have made a claim in this 12-month coverage period (which ends early September) we still have to pay the premiums up until September even though we aren’t covered anymore – this on top of the thousands we’ve already paid. We’ve now opened up a designated savings account and are putting money in there for future vet bills. I'd advise anyone considering pet insurance to really do your sums and see if you think it is worth it - for us, it certainly wasn't.
Do not touch with a barge poll
Don’t waste your money. They grasp at straws to not pay out! They charged me 2 lots of excess for one consult because there were 2 seperate conditions. They should be ashamed of themselves especially in this climate. This is why insurers get a bad name because they’ll do anything to keep your money
Fantastic insurance cover & service
We insured our beloved late 13yr old dachshund Benji with Medibank! Well what can i say but they have been fantastic throughout our journey with our baby - always there for information when i called, helpful, polite and got the job done. Claims done swiftly, money paid in quickly and without them we could not have given our darling Benji the care and treatment he required in his 13 years in our forever home. I would highly recommend them and if we have another fur baby will most defenitely use them again. Thank you Medibank and also for your kind message after the passing of our beloved Benji....
Pet insurance increase by 40% in one month
Would never use them again with our next dog. They increase the premiums by a ridiculous amount because your dog is getting older even though we have insurance for ten years with them on the same dog. Absolutely disgusted. Will change our health insurance as well because of this disgusting act by them.
Ultimate pet care is Ultimate rip off!
Worst insurance in the market. Never again will I insure pet through this mob. Every claim submitted has $200 excess deducted, so am reimbursed sqwat. May as well not submit claim for anything.
Recently put in a claim for my 13 year old cat's iodine radiotherapy. All I had to do was forward the receipt & the vet's treatment notes - very easy. It was paid in under 2 weeks. I'm very satisfied with the service!
Excellent claim outcome
I just had my first ever claim for a major pet surgery of over $10k. I received the full 80% cover (less $200 excess) within 3 days of the paperwork being submitted. The vets submitted their invoices via e-claim, Medibank sent a text to let me know it had been received and I then monitored the claim via the pet portal, a few days later the money was in my account.
Look elsewhere! As soon as your pet gets sick and old they increase the premium at random. Also the excess is deducted every time you make a claim. I'm with them for almost 11 years as I have no choice and cannot leave now. Paying $130 every month now.
Good value. Cover my consultation fee and vaccination and easy to make a claim over the pet portal. Happy that my cat health is in good hand and looking forward to her future vet visit.
Policy a waste of money
Well over a month
Also had policy for previous dog for 4 YEARS.
ONLY BONOUS IS I DONT PAY THE OVER THE TOP FEES .
Would not recommend
Disappointing treatment of a long term member
My dog became very ill before Easter and after consultation had to be euthanised.Ihave had Medibank Pet Insurance for him and his predecesor totalling around 12 years. The pet portal proved unusable for placing my claim so I mailed it After some time I received a letter requesting more documentation including his adoption certificate which I gathered together and emailed. The next day I received an email thanking me and hoping my dog was recovering well. He had been dead for over two weeks! In the nearly 6 years we had him he had two small claim...s. I would never again take pet insurance. Far better to put money in a bank account each month. After your dog reaches 9 and cant be insured elsewhere the premiums sky rocket.Another trap is excesses. I understand they apply to each ailment each year.
Worst people to deal with!!!!!
Dog ate some poison and needed to throw it up with medication immediately. Apparently not covered for that with full cover protection. $1400 a year for a 9yo dog.yes she may be a big bread but no excuse was given. Just blatantly said no, not covered for that.
What a load!!!!
Disappointed after being a loyal client for 10 years...
A recent trip to the emergency and a rejection of a $150 claim prompted us to review our Bronze Paw cover which over time has become pretty useless as it turns out...
As it turns out, there is no option to upgrade this if your cat is more than 9 years old (ours are 10) even though we've been with Medibank from the start...

Worst insurance product I have ever had
Taking out this insurance was a total waste of time and money and I wouldn't recommend Medibank Pet Insurance to ANY pet owner. I submitted a claim, with all the relevant documentation, only to then be told I had to submit the necessary documentation before they'd process it. I'd already sent the paperwork. I tried to ring them, however apparently they can't take calls because people is working at home (every other company has managed to divert their phones). Instead I had to email and wait 1-2 days to get a response, then email back then w...ait 1-2 days to get a response and so on. Finally they advise me that I had a $200 excess for a $100 claim (I was pretty sure I'd selected no excess) - go figure??? So I immediately cancelled my policy. Then I noticed that on 28 March they'd taken another policy instalment. I cancelled on 3 April and asked for the outstanding premium amount to be refunded only to be told there was no refund entitlement... I would have thought the premium they took was for the coming month - after all they bill in advance not in arrears - thus I should have had a pro rata refund for the period 3 April to 28 April. I've emailed again... I guess now all I can do is wait... (Personally I think they should have refunded me the whole month given the time they wasted with back and forth emails but that was my problem for choosing such a crap product.) I'm off to talk to RSPCA about their insurance product. One of the clear winners with them is that they have no excess.

Don’t waste your money!
Terrible value for money! I’ve been paying for this “insurance” (and I use that term very lightly) for years and whenever I submit a claim I never get barely anything back! It’s almost to the point of fraudulent! Highly highly highly recommend not getting this insurance as it’s a COMPLETE waste of money!
Processed claims and had money back in our account in 2 days! Cancelled our policy for us automatically when we had to euthanize our cat. Highly recommend and will use again. Thank you Medibank.

Worst Pet Insurance
Worst policy decision ever. I am totally disappointed that I have been paying for several years and never got one cent back. What a waste of my money. All the claims that I submitted have always
" not met the criteria"
Would not be without pet Insurance
I have been with Medibank for coming up 10yrs and I have no problem lodging my claims and get it back in 3 to 5 days depending on when I placed it
Total scam. Dreadful service and ridiculous exclusions
First of all, every time you need to call these people put aside an hour and have a Valium handy. Worst service I’ve ever experienced. But aside from that the policies are basically a rort. Obnoxious amounts charged, ridiculous exclusions and just a nightmare to deal with. I previously had 3 pets covered for 5+ years... so they’ve made a fortune out of me for doing very little apart from raising my blood pressure. Today I cancelled the lot and will also be referring my complaint to the appropriate advisory bodies.

For the claim what is the meaning of Pet History . Do you need vet history from the birth. I got my pup when he was 8 weeks old and he didn't have a vet visit prior to that because he was a health puppy. His first vet check up was around 8 weeks old and didn't have any health issues so far. If I make a claim in the future would it be ok to have pet vet history from 8 weeks old.
