Absolutely shocked at 40% increase
While I understand that there will be a premium increase as my dog ages, he turned 11 in September, I have been astounded by an increase that is just over 40%.This also happened without any prior notification being received, apparently an email was sent but didn't arrive at my end, so now that the first monthly installment has been debited I am now locked in for a further 12 months.Be aware , I knew that there would be an increase, but 40% is hard to take, I feel that this is done because they know that you can't change insurers with an aged animal. Not happy, I would definitely not use Medibank Pet Insurance again.
I have both two dogs with the medibank pet insurance for 10 years, the claim was reasonable. The first dog past away in Feb and they refunded me the remaining monthly fee from the day he past away. My second dog past away on the 4th Sep. I contacted them on the 24th Sep and try to terminate his insurance. I thought the termination date is the date he past away, However, they said they can terminate the insurance from the 18th because that's my payment date. Even I can send them the proof from vet. They just rejected to consider that. Means I am paying for the insurance with a past away dog. Very disappointed of what just experienced. I have rescue a dog last month but I may not choose medibank anymore.
Update: new condition and excellent service
We have had Medibank pet insurance since we bought our rescue dog home 5 1/2 years ago and I have written a previous review in relation to claiming for care around a significant leg deformity. In April this year our dog was diagnosed with EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency syndrome) a digestive disorder requiring life long medication (oral and injectable) and frequent monitoring. Medications to manage both his leg deformity and new metabolic disorder now total $ 250 per month and will be required for the duration of his life. Blood tests ev...ery 6 weeks at present cost $140. Medibank have continued to be fantastic in relation to communication, ease of claiming etc. Each year I need to spend $400 ($200 for each condition) prior to receiving any rebate but this is clearly articulated when I put claims in - both on the online information provided and the print outs posted. We pay $80 per month which is expected given the age of the dog and the usually yearly price rises and I imagine that there may become a point in the future where cover for emergency care only would be more appropriate and we self fund the rest. Service has been excellent...
Don't waste your money!!!
The policy was easy to set up and have been with Medibank Pets for a few years now. Every time I put in a claim I usually have to back this up with a phone call because they don't want to pay for anything. Sometimes I have quoted directly from their policy booklet and then they have paid.
They cover the bear minimum. In the last year I have spent $7235 on my dog, including the insurance. I have received back approx $425. It is worth me saving the $1700 per year and using that to pay a third of the costs of the vet bills. I have just put my last lot of claims through and I will be terminating my insurance.
Don't waste your money and go with someone that doesn't query every single claim.
Struggling to get a claim approved
Have had insurance on my 2 cats for a few years and also have my own health insurance with medibank for over 4 years. Very disappointed with their claims department. My cat got very sick with bilateral kidney stones and was in renal failure requiring emergency care and an operation. Claims submitted with all consultation notes from the animal hospital plus her complete treatment records from her regular vet. 2 weeks after claim submitted it was put on hold as they required full vet history. I contacted medibank by phone and said this has alread...y been uploaded and they said they need to contact the vet themselves and get the vet to email them the same document which I had already uploaded. I didn't really understand but said ok and the vet emailed them the relevant documentation, the same vet history that I had already uploaded. Checking my claim status today and again they have put the claim on hold for the exact same reason after receiving the vet history from the vet. I have just spent over $16000 in saving my cats life and have done everything required to submit a claim but Medibank are clearly stalling and not being helpful at all. With how stressful the month has been already you would think they would at least be honest and treat their customers with respect and integrity. I will make my second phone call tomorrow to try and sort this issue out but I fear it will be the same old tactics again in trying to stall the claim. I would highly recommend not taking Pet insurance with medibank and instead try RSPCA or something else I have many friends that have had emergencies with their pets and other insurance agencies and have not had the same trouble I am currently going through.
Came through when we needed it!
You never quite know how good an insurance policy really is until you have to make a claim. In our case the claims process was easy and user friendly, and the payments prompt, efficient and easy to track on the pet portal. Can't fault Medibank's Ultimate Pet Insurance and would not hesitate to recommend.
I do not recommend. I made a claim for the first time since joined them a year ago. The premium looks cheaper compared to similar cover insurance. But it was so hassled to get only a small amount of money back. I haven't been paid yet though because "lack of information". I submitted necessary documents that prompted in the member portal, such as vet note, receipt and the form with vet's signature and details. But I got letters from Medibank says "lack of information".
They now asking me "history". So I submitted all the records I have even th...
Save stress and put your money in your own account
I posted in my claim forms and bills over 7 weeks ago and have heard nothing. No e-mail, no phone call, no letter. I finally was able to get on line to check my claim only to see that it was denied. I took out ultimate care so that I wouldn't have to deal with major vet bills. The insurance company should tell you to get a health check done on your pet so that you can prove that your pet has no PRE-EXISTING injuries when you make a claim. My dog fell in a hole while running and damaged his cruciate ligament and as he had no pre-existing injurie...s I was sure he would be covered - apparantly NOT. I had to beg and borrow the $5000 + and was relying on this insurance to pay back what I owe. This company is deceptive and very slack with communication. I will be cancelling this policy and will never recommend to anyone else. Stay away and put money away in your account instead of giving it away to these crooks.
Super Fast Easy Claiming. Stress Relief
Took away the added financial stress at a time when our sick pet should be our #1 concern. Fast refund 2-3 days. Love the easy online pet portal. Quick & simple. Thanks Medibank, this is how customer service should be.
Avoid this insurance lie the plague
A massive ripoff insurance product. Under its banner, Medibank lures its health insurance customers into its pet insurance that PetSure runs. Petsure makes sure it sets the premium so that it does not pay out more than the premium collected. The premium for one of my dogs went from about $500 when I insured him as 3 month old puppy to about $750 the next year and almost $1,000 the next year. I cancelled the insurance. You are better off putting this kind of money in the bank and paying the vet bills fully with that money. I wish I could rate this product as zero, it deserves no star. Vik
I wouldn't let Medibank insurance handle my stool let alone any insurance
Medibank Pet Insurance
Your service, communication is a disgrace and your staff aren't far behind. Hey you have recording of the call (which you won't share), take a listen.
Now i know you are an insurance company and don't like paying out but I feel like I'm in Back to the Future I, in the 1960's.
You communicate via the post???
No call, no email, one text???
When I first put my claims in I got a text saying claim received, but nothing else.
Nothing, so I check the portal, you needed more information from me, ok well it would have been nice to know this, a little communication helps the world go round, a full Vet history....

Don't even bother
I have been with medibank pet insurance for almost 7 years. A few weeks ago I had to rush my beloved cat to the emergency vets as it turned out her small intestines spontaneously telescoped and she went in for surgery to have that section of intestines removed. I was on emergency care, because you never know when something like this can suddenly happen. $5500 later, I put in my claims to medibank desperate for the money I had borrowed to be paid off, only to receive a letter, after chasing it up for 3 weeks, that nothing, not a cent would be paid. Even though the entire this is itemized, not a single thing is to be covered because apparently this emergency was not the right kind of emergency. Waste of time and money.

Shocking increase in Premium! Stay AWAY!
Another year, another massive Premium increase. Why? Because we made a little claim? Ear infection around 200 AUD claim. Our dog is very healthy, only 4 years old. We signed up since he was a puppy and this is how you get treated. Our premium increased from 85 to 106 AUD per month! And we have also our private health insurance membership with them. When does it stop? What is the insurance for if you pay your vet visits basically yourself on top of the premium a year after???
Don't get fooled like us, their lure you in with good prices and t...hen they spit on your loyalty and increase the premium every year as they please. When you call them about the unfair increase, they just basically letting your know that you can't go anywhere else as your dog have now a pre existing condition (ear infection). I will try to warn people on as many review pages as possible and will contact ombudsman as it is almost criminal.
Great Customer Service
I really wanted to give a shout out to Rafael who had done all her best in providing the best customer service to my dog and I. She heard my story and felt that she needed to give all she has got to get my long pending claim for my pet's vet bill processed, as I was on the verge of cancelling my pet's insurance.
Medibank Pet Insurance
The claims portal is easy to use and the statements are easily understandable. Our vet seems to understand what information is required and we have not had to supply further evidence of our claim. We've had a good experience with our claims to date.
Avoid, its not what you think
To anyone who has pets and are considering pet insurance or who currently use Medibank Pet Insurance, I want to share my story. After paying monthly pet insurance payments to medibank for over 8 years and having the usual policy increases each year, I received the policy for this year for Tashi my dog who will turn 13 next week. Medibank has increased the monthly payments by 28% taking the annual premium from$680 to $935 because they can. No other reason, they review the policy risk factors each year and although no claims were made and no circ...umstances changed except that my dog is a year older, they can forget the 8 years of payments made and up the premium 28%. This is not highlighted to you when you take out the policy. I have paid out thousands over the 8 years to no avail and will now not renew the policy. I just wanted you to be aware of my experience and avoid Medicare and perhaps check whatever policies you may have because as the time draws near that you may actually need to make a claim you will be shafted. Better to set up your own Pet Fund and put your premiums away for the day you need it, I wish I had....
Incompetent and unconscionable practices
I have three dogs and we’ve been covered by Medibank since we rescued them eight years ago. We haven’t claimed in years and this year our premiums increased by 40% without any explanation. When I called to cancel our policies, they refused to accept my cancellation and insisted that I put my premiums on hold (promised I wouldn’t have any premiums deducted going forward) while they had an opportunity to investigate and put a better offer to me. I reluctantly agreed and heard nothing from them. Two weeks later my premium was deducted ! I had to c...all three times and beg to be let to cancel my policy before they agreed to cancel my policy, and refunded my premium (I kept being told it had to be escalated to management and would receive a call back, I never did). One operator tried to advise me my cancellation had been ineffective and I was required to pay premiums for 12 months going forward ! Various breaches of the Insurance Contracts Act and outrageous behaviour that they refused to accept my cancellation which is unconscionable in so many ways and a breach of my policy which allows me to cancel at any time. As a lawyer who practises in insurance law, I found this a horribly difficult experience and I can’t imagine how someone who doesn’t have my background would find this.

Ive been a member with MBP pet insurance for a few years and have been lucky enough not tot have to claim. Spoke to Rafael tonight about how I do this for a claim I need to make. She was kind and knowledgeable and helpful.
June 17th 2019 Update: Best pet insurance around
I've recently have had many & high cost vet bills. Medibank's pet insurance has been an absolute life saver. Claims paid fast & refunds were better than expected & easy to submit. A big thank you to Medibank Pet Insurance.
Fantastic Pet Insurance
I have been with MBP pet insurance for about 4 years. They have been brilliant, have always been extremely easy to deal with and have always settled my claims within days of me lodging. Very satisfied customer and highly recommend them to anyone who is looking at pet insurance options.

Thanks for getting in touch.

For the claim what is the meaning of Pet History . Do you need vet history from the birth. I got my pup when he was 8 weeks old and he didn't have a vet visit prior to that because he was a health puppy. His first vet check up was around 8 weeks old and didn't have any health issues so far. If I make a claim in the future would it be ok to have pet vet history from 8 weeks old.
