Can do much better!
My claim came about since we had $27k fully paid travel 3 months before my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer that required immediate treatment and travel cancellation. I supplied all the required documentation but Medibank demanded more documentation even from an airline that had gone into receivership. Medibank clearly hadn’t read or understood the documents submitted as I had to resubmit with the relevant sections highlighted. I had to spoon feed them through the claims process. After 9 weeks they paid up in full but the process was excruciating. Dealing with Medibank Travel Insurance claims was a worse experience than dealing with Centrelink – yes really.

I took out Travel Insurance for my husband and I in January for a trip we intended to take within Australia during July. Staff on the phone were very helpful and the premium, even with my husband's pre-existing condition, was very reasonable. Unfortunately due to Covid19 the trip was cancelled by the operator and, although we received much of our money back, we were still out of pocket by well over $4,000. I did not really expect that my claim would be successful as cancellation was due to a pandemic but I have just received a full refund afte...r only 7 weeks during which time I was informed by email twice on the progress of my claim. This is the first time I have needed to make a claim and also the first time I have used Medibank Travel Insurance but will certainly do so again next time we are able to travel. I am very happy with the way my claim has been handled. Good value , great staff Shirley. 10th July 2020
Medibank Travel Insurance - Not easy to deal with
We have used Medibank travel insurance a few times as we have our health insurance with them. I emailed and then rang them on 3/3/20 asking about a current policy (covering a cruise that had been cancelled) and about taking a new policy for replacement cruises we have booked. After being put on hold for 10 minutes, the highly officious lady who responded said that I needed to talk to someone else for the existing cruise but she could help with cover for the new cruises. This very patronising lady then gave me chapter and verse about what needed...to be done. I ended the conversation by saying I will take my business elsewhere as Medibank was obviously not interested I still have had no response from Medibank travel. So much for their 1 business day turnaround!

Very Disappointed with Medibank Travel Insurance
We have used Medibank Travel Insurance in the past and for the first time had to make a claim recently. Due to bad weather our flights were postponed and we missed two days on a Lord Howe Island resort, and had to stay in a hotel in Brisbane for two extra nights until our flights could go ahead. Medibank Travel insurance refused to pay our hotel accommodation fees and meals. (Documentation was supplied by the airline involved and all receipts were presented to Medibank.) The airline paid for our accommodation for the first night ( with no meal...s) but we had to pay hotel accommodation for the second night as well as meals. Medibank Insurance would only pay for the two nights accommodation missed on the island ( this was non-refundable) and well as taxi fares to and from the airport. When I challenged the assessor he said the policy didn't cover two accommodation claims. The amount we claimed for the hotel and meals was $261.18 which was not excessive and yet Medibank will not pay this out of pocket expense even though we were financially disadvantaged. I will never use Medibank Travel again as I believe that we were unfairly denied payment for a circumstance which was beyond our control and should have been covered by our insurance. We are considering taking our claim to the small claims tribunal.
No response to claim query
I emailed 'email@example.com' on 17/11/2019 to ask if I was covered for losses associated with cancellation of outbound flights from my home town on two consecutive days. I got a reply saying "We will endeavour to respond to you within 24 hours." I had no response by 2/1/2020 so sent it again and got the same response. At 12/1/2020 I have still had no response. Doesn't give me much confidence. Might try ringing, I had a good response from them when we queried what to do in the event we could not get to our Sydney Perth flight because of the NSW bush fires..
I arranged my policy over the phone when I booked my holiday at the beginning of the year. This is the first time I have ever had to make a claim and I am thoroughly happy with the way that I have been treated by the company. They always responded within or before 10 working days to each of my emails and always remembered to ask for identification to keep my case secure.
The staff were all friendly and helpful and all seemed keen to get my case resolved quickly which they did. I can thoroughly recommend them based on my experience.
I found Medibank Travel Insurance to be very helpful, sensible and prompt in processing my claim. The claims staff gave good practical telephone advice. I will definitely use them again.

I have used your travel insurance twice within Australia. I would certainly recommend your service. I suddenly needed to cancel my trip planned for September 2019 and was not within the cancellation period.Claimed on the off chance of being successful.Correspondence was always respectful and informative ....I am very elderly. Have travelled extensively for 60 years. Never claimed before. Congratulations on handling my claim so professionally.
Claim for domestic travel
We fully paid for a holiday beforehand but before we left i had an accident and seriously injured myself so was unable to go. My wife summited a claim for the total amount for the two of us because there there were no refunds applicable from the travel company. My injury was suffered just before we were due to leave. After receiving our claim Medibank asked us for some more detail and the person who contacted us from Medibank was friendly and helpful when we asked him some questions relating to the Medibank request for further information. The claim was handled promptly and we were delighted when advised that our claim was successful.
Well worth taking out for Domestic travel
My Husband had a nasty accident one week before we were due to travel.
Luckily we had taken out Travel Insurance even though we were only going
to Queensland. So glad!
