Domestic Plan - no coverage for Cruising – With domestic cruises in Australia on international cruise ships, ensure choosing a travel insurance policy that covers cruising, even if you are not leaving Australian territory. Domestic Plan (annual Multi Trip) may not suitable. Show details

Don't Buy Medibank Travel Insurance - They will rip you off when you try to claim – We had to cut our road trip to Mitchell Plateau short by 5 days as our pet sitter was suddenly unable to continue. We unsuccessfully tried to find another pet sitter at short notice. We decided to return early incurring losses of some $5000 in prepaid accommodation and booking new accommodation, increases in airfare costs, and other sundries. Medicbank refused payment on the grounds that either we or our pet sitter had changed our plans !!! Show details

NO OUTCOME IN OVER 4 MONTHS – How hard is it. We had an organised trip booked plus an additional 7 days after it - 17 days total. After 7 days I developed a medical condition that necessitated medical evac on April 27. (5 ambulance trips, 2 Royal Flying Dr. flights and 2 hospital stays). Despite trying to organise everything from my hospital bed for my husband who has… Read more

medical conditions - I was unable to speak to anyone at Medibank on the phone (even after waiting on hold for 2 hrs & 26 mins on one occasion) and just had to try to organise everything myself - he was offloaded from our organised trip and was not allowed to fly with me on Royal Flying Dr. This all happened in April. After my recovery - my claim was not lodged till 21/6. I still have not even received a call or any sort of reasonable response from Claims or Customer Service in over 4 months. Due to so much money being tied up in this claim we were not able to take advantage of any other holiday on our annual policy - which has now expired. Even though we had COVID cover - this claim was NOT COVID RELATED - although every excuse given was due to COVID claims - maybe I would have been better off claiming COVID. I had Health Insurance through Medibank for about 40 years - would not recommend their travel Insurance.

Radio Silence – I've chosen Medibank Travel insurance as I am a priority member on a high tier health cover. Being with Medibank for nearly 20 years, I thought the cover was under Medibank and not outsourced to Cover-More insurance, regrets... I've submitted my claim over 20 business day ago and the only communication received from Cover-More was that there has… Read more

been delays processing claims due to Covid-19, to me this is an unacceptable excuse as Covid has been around for over 2 years now, enough time for any company to adapt to the new reality. Apart from this automated response, it has been radio silence for a month. So far I do not recommend this product to anyone.

A wonderful company to deal with – We unfortunately became ill on a Kimberly’s trip & had to be air lifted off our trip at a large expensive. Fortunately we had taken travel insurance & we received 99.9% of our claim which was amazing & the claim was attended to quickly. I would highly recommend Medibank travel insurance. Show details ·  1

Many thanks for assistance – Good value domestic policy, easy to set up, taken out at time of booking a Kimberley Adventure Tour. Normally use Southern Cross, but we are Medibank Health customers, so actually made sense to utilise their travel insurance. Very glad we did. First ever travel claim. Unfortunately received a medical diagnosis just before balance of holiday… Read more ·  1

booking was due, forcing cancellation. Easy online claims process relating our deposit refunds (didn't want the travel company credits offered) and pre-booked domestic flights. Claim settled in full within the 10 working-day advisory period with no further documentation required. Funds received a couple of days later into nominated bank account. Many thanks for assistance.

Value for money travel insurance – Our trip was Cancelled/unable to be taken because of medical reasons, at my first and every other contact I was treated with understanding by the very professional, informative and friendly staff. I had some issues extracting the information required from the travel company but Medicare Travel Insurance were very understanding and helpful. My claim was assessed and resolved in full. Show details ·  1

Great package and service – I will definitely purchase another annual domestic policy if I am doing more than one trip in a year - very good value. I had to make a claim due to a flight cancellation and Medibank insurance got back to me with an approval for extra expenses paid within 10 days. Show details ·  1

Most grateful – Have always used Medibank Travel Insurance within Australia and overseas. Fortunately, never had to claim. Due to a botched hip replacement I was not able to travel to a remote area in Australia, so claimed the deposit paid. Took a while, but the claim was met. Most grateful and the physio treatment is helping. Show details ·  1

Can do much better! – My claim came about since we had $27k fully paid travel 3 months before my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer that required immediate treatment and travel cancellation. I supplied all the required documentation but Medibank demanded more documentation even from an airline that had gone into receivership. Medibank clearly hadn’t read or… Read more

understood the documents submitted as I had to resubmit with the relevant sections highlighted. I had to spoon feed them through the claims process. After 9 weeks they paid up in full but the process was excruciating. Dealing with Medibank Travel Insurance claims was a worse experience than dealing with Centrelink – yes really.

First time customer, very satisfied – I took out Travel Insurance for my husband and I in January for a trip we intended to take within Australia during July. Staff on the phone were very helpful and the premium, even with my husband's pre-existing condition, was very reasonable. Unfortunately due to Covid19 the trip was cancelled by the operator and, although we received much of our… Read more ·  1

money back, we were still out of pocket by well over $4,000. I did not really expect that my claim would be successful as cancellation was due to a pandemic but I have just received a full refund after only 7 weeks during which time I was informed by email twice on the progress of my claim. This is the first time I have needed to make a claim and also the first time I have used Medibank Travel Insurance but will certainly do so again next time we are able to travel. I am very happy with the way my claim has been handled. Good value , great staff Shirley. 10th July 2020

Medibank Travel Insurance - Not easy to deal with – We have used Medibank travel insurance a few times as we have our health insurance with them. I emailed and then rang them on 3/3/20 asking about a current policy (covering a cruise that had been cancelled) and about taking a new policy for replacement cruises we have booked. After being put on hold for 10 minutes, the highly officious lady who… Read more

responded said that I needed to talk to someone else for the existing cruise but she could help with cover for the new cruises. This very patronising lady then gave me chapter and verse about what needed to be done. I ended the conversation by saying I will take my business elsewhere as Medibank was obviously not interested

I still have had no response from Medibank travel. So much for their 1 business day turnaround!

Very Disappointed with Medibank Travel Insurance – We have used Medibank Travel Insurance in the past and for the first time had to make a claim recently. Due to bad weather our flights were postponed and we missed two days on a Lord Howe Island resort, and had to stay in a hotel in Brisbane for two extra nights until our flights could go ahead. Medibank Travel insurance refused to pay our hotel… Read more

accommodation fees and meals. (Documentation was supplied by the airline involved and all receipts were presented to Medibank.) The airline paid for our accommodation for the first night ( with no meals) but we had to pay hotel accommodation for the second night as well as meals. Medibank Insurance would only pay for the two nights accommodation missed on the island ( this was non-refundable) and well as taxi fares to and from the airport. When I challenged the assessor he said the policy didn't cover two accommodation claims. The amount we claimed for the hotel and meals was $261.18 which was not excessive and yet Medibank will not pay this out of pocket expense even though we were financially disadvantaged. I will never use Medibank Travel again as I believe that we were unfairly denied payment for a circumstance which was beyond our control and should have been covered by our insurance. We are considering taking our claim to the small claims tribunal.

No response to claim query – I emailed 'medibank-claims@travelinsurancepartners.com.au' on 17/11/2019 to ask if I was covered for losses associated with cancellation of outbound flights from my home town on two consecutive days. Claim for domestic travel – We fully paid for a holiday beforehand but before we left i had an accident and seriously injured myself so was unable to go.
