BETTER CARS AVAILABLE FOR HALF THE PRICE – I bought my first Merc 40 years ago, it was well built, technologically ahead of most other cars and you felt safe in it. I have owned another 6 mercs in the last 37 years and it is patently obvious that as the years roll by the build quality has decreased markedly and the technology is no better than some Korean or Japanese cars. We currently… Read more
have a C250, a nice looking car and nice to drive, but.......The gear selecter lever is where half the rest of the world has the indicators, on a stalk on the right side of the wheel. The Command Nav system is useless, it can only accept the most basic English words and anything slightly complex, it just makes a guess which is usually nowhere close eg " Glanton way" to which it replies " Stanton drive??" it would be funny if you were listening to someone else trying to use it but not when you're trying to find an address, other than that it is clunky and over complicated, which has been widely criticised by motoring journos. Also, you would think that a $100K 2016 model car would have Bluetooth pretty sorted? wrong!! The Bluetooth connects to my phone roughly 75% of the time, and never when you really need it. The emergency braking system is dangerous and can't be adjusted or turned off eg someone walks in front of the car 50 metres up the road, whilst the car would be reasonably close to said person, it would be nowhere near hitting them, the car goes into full emergency braking and you are just there for the ride, if there is a car close behind you you had better hope they are paying attention and have very good brakes, this "feature" has nearly caused many more accidents than it has saved. Servicing at the dealership is fine if you sell a kidney each time, needless to say I have it serviced at a non dealer/specialist for half the dealership cost. Yes it is a good looking car and nice to drive (mostly) but for half the price, provided you are happy to lose the snob factor, you can get same or better technology and up to 7 years warranty (as I right this I think Mercedes have finally gone to 5 years)
Service costs astronomical – 2019 C200. B service was $1,087 last time!!! Now due for a service but last service was only 5 000 km ago. Contacted dealer to find out options as it would be ridiculous to change oil etc after 5,000km. No reply to date. Run flat tyres are idiotic for Oz. No jack! If you ride on a deflated run flat tyre it has to be replaced = $$$. The owners… Read more
manual is for a LHD car. No service book to manually see when services done. Instead you have to log in to the digital record and see convoluted data. Nice car overall.
Best car I have brought – I Used to drive Holden Commodores most my life and still have vfs Commodores, even girlfriend same, I one day brought her a c200 2015 model, best car I have driven , can't hear any noise ,suspension to handling to braking to comfort is amazing, never had one issue with it definitely do not regret buying this. Girlfriend uses this car on a daily basis and loves it Show details
This is Australia not Europe – We purchase this car from new which is C250 bluetech diesel 2.1 motor with twin turbos it's got a lot of giddy up ( a lot,) very impressed with the vehicle the creature comforts are great, servicing can be expensive depending where you have your vehicle service the downside to the vehicle is it runs run Flats tyres which is not suitable for (… Read more
Australian conditions ) they are the worst tyre imaginable you have no spare wheel at all. So if you're on a road trip on a sealed road at the back of Queensland or similar and you have a puncture you need to purchase a air compressor and a can of temporary repair spray , like I had to do and carry them in your vehicle. Also you have to update your roadside assist for extended . Towing to a tyre repair and if they cannot repair it because in some States it is illegal to put a plug in a tyre so you have to order a new tyre and that could take 5 days through to a week depending on your locality just hope you can get a hotel room this is all extra money on your policy. ? If you hit a pothole in the road it feels like the front wheel is coming through the front firewall and it frightened the Dickens out of you. We actually cracked a rear rim and had to replace it at a cost of $615 from Mercedes which took about 7 days to obtain Mercedes didn't want to know me they called it impact I would have thought it would take an awful big impact seening that they are built for Australian conditions ,that's one impact that you would remember .You are very lucky if you get 22000 Ks out of a set of tyres you cannot interchange the tyres from back to front because they are different sizes the camber Lays in on the rear wheeks wearing the tyre on the inside edge there are only two sort of tyres you can put on this vehicle the Mercedes original equipment ( MOE ) are the Eagle F1 and continental all run Flats only and approximately priced at $440 a tyre not happy Jan if you change the rims and tyres you may have an insurance issue if you have an accident because they are not original equipment food for thought regards Mark Wilden
My Life Long Dream was Shattered!! – Well ever since I was a child, I dreamed of owning a Mercedes Benz. I never thought that this would be possible, but after retiring, I was able to make it work and in 2021 I purchased a Brand New Mercedes-Benz C300 Sedan. It included the Command Package, Edition C and Ceramic Paint Protection. For the last 15 years I have driven a variety of SUV's… Read more
(VW Tiguan - Kia Sportage - Hyundai ix35) but thought that the transition from an SUV to a Sedan would be an easy transition - This couldn't have been further from the truth!! I wasn't able to have a test drive due to Covid - I live in Rural Victoria about 400kms from the Dealership. The Dealership involved offered a buying experience that I had not experienced with any other Dealership - One that I guess I expected from Mercedes, but it was simply superb!! As I was driving my new car home (Approx. 400kms) the first thing that I noticed was just how low you actually sit in the drivers seat. It reminded me of the flintstones!! Not what I expected, but I thought that I would get used to it - but I didn't. I found that my right knee rested on part of the door that caused some pain, resulting in having to move my knee off the door on and off over the journey (I am 6 foot). I also noticed that the area for the drivers legs seemed more narrow than any other vehicle I had driven previously. Over the course of the next month I found myself trying to like this car, but it just didn't work for me. I was so disappointed.
The negatives for me were - Restricted leg room for the driver. Very low seating position making it a task for someone older to get in and out of the car. With the drivers seating position fully back, there was very little room in the back seat, behind the driver. The car seems to take up a lot of room for the motor (front end) which impacts in a negative way with what room is left for driver/passengers. The auto close boot sounds like something that you would expect from an EH Holden - very clunky and certainly not smooth at all. Run Flat tyres are terrible and contribute to the ride quality of this vehicle being below par.
The positives for me - The car is very well made inside and out. A number of advanced safety features. The paintwork is like silk (Due to the ceramic treatment)(Be Warned - With a Ceramic Finish, you are told not to use any touchless car wash).
I ended up selling my car back to the Dealership, and Yes, I lost money. I'm currently waiting for my new Hyundai Tuscon Highlander SUV, which I hope will solve most of the issues I had personally with the Mercedes.
I guess you could say - Dreams don't always come true ......
The MAIN Lesson that I learnt - TEST DRIVE BEFORE PURCHASE!!
2015 C250 – I was in the market for a newer car and was looking for an SUV but decided to get a sedan. This was was fully optioned and whilst I am more a BMW fan I went for the merc. I am pretty impressed, it feels great to drive. I actually look forward to driving again and make excuses to take it for a spin. I like the belt tension when I start the car, it… Read more
is like the car is hugging me haha Pros: Feels terrific to drive and the interior is good quality. Safety features - lane departure, active lane guidance etc Great stereo Fuel efficient (diesel) Looks terrififc! Cons: Run flats are terrible Voice recognition or pronunciation Navigation - just use google maps
On the whole, a great commuter or family car.
Extraordinary – As a lucky owner of many lovely cars over the years, there's something about the C250 that's totally got under my skin. Purchased 3 months ago, I bought a fully optioned C250 with AMG Line, Command Pack and Vision Pack. The Good It looks extraordinary, from every angle it's designed exquisitely. Interior is also exquisite. AMG seats are… Read more
supremely comfortable even after 3-4 hours driving. Driving position is perfect, there's a feeling of contouring when you get in and start driving. Head-up display, lane keeping assist are excellent on long journeys. Handling is extraordinary up to a point, it's not a WRX, but at all but the most extreme speeds, it's effortless and elegant. Overtaking also effortless and available power will get you in trouble equally effortlessly. The lowered AMG suspension allows you to go around corners fast than most sane people would want to in a non-racing situation. Fuel use is good at an average of 8ishL/100km and this on E10, ignore the 95 Octane recommendation. Burmeister sound system is captivating, from Wagner to Opeth it's divine - especially when you ditch the run-flats...
The Bad The run flat tyres are awful, sounds like the fan on a gym rowing machine - I changed them straight away. AMG Line suspension with the run-flats is pretty bumpy, either don't do the suspension upgrade or get some decent tyres. Voice recognition system is hopeless, I've called pretty much everybody in my contacts list that I didn't want to speak to.
Overall, these are great cars. The Audi A4 and the BMW 3 handle a bit better, but for day to day commuting and enjoyment, they are eminently capable and sooooo beautiful to be in. I simply love getting in the car every morning.
Lots of faults – It’s a good car when it works but based on my experience I strongly advise you to stay away. It’s very expensive to fix and a lot has gone wrong for me. I had the previous model before this and it was much more reliable. I would guess that because this is the first of the new line Mercedes couldn’t achieve the same reliability, and that will… Read more
become your problem as they won’t fix things properly.
I have had some things fixed under warranty but the fixes are far from perfect. After having a few tries Mercedes will start telling you the problems are ‘within expected tolerances’, so in other words they expect their cars to be loud and not shift gears properly.
Problems I’ve had:
- The sunroof (which I don’t open much) broke just after the warranty expired, cost to fix is $3000 - the front passenger head rest (which I don’t move much) headrest broke shortly after the sunroof, cost to replace is $1400 and they can’t repair it - the gearbox is glitchy and jerky, Mercedes spent about two weeks trying to fix it including replacing the valve body under warranty. They even said they were consulting with Germany. They did improve things marginally but it’s still glitchy and jerky. In the end Mercedes gave up and started telling me that it’s ‘within expected tolerance’. Don’t expect you’re going to get a smooth ride just because it’s a Mercedes, you won’t. - the camera that picks up road markings has broken recently so the lane control and auto high beam aren’t working. Haven’t gotten a quote for that one yet but I doubt it will be cheap. - the brake discs has become loose a few times. - the rubber door lining had to be fully replaced as it rubbed loudly when driving. The replacement is better but still quite noisy.
A cut-corners car! – This car (C200 Bluetec) was purchased brand new by my mother from Mercedes-Benz Sydney in late 2015, has been used everyday since & has been a major disappointment. The 1.6L Turbo-Diesel is one of the slowest engines i have ever experienced & gets absolutely smoked by my 2007 Honda Accord Euro which was her previous car. Turbo lag is horrendous… Read more
and the noise inside the cabin means that the stereo system has to be turned right up to actually hear the thing. The stop-start system makes things 10 times worse taking ages to wake back up after cutting out the engine.
The vehicle's run-flat tires make the ride a very rough one, every small bump makes a huge noise and shakes you like you've run over a rock. They are also damn expensive costing 300 hard earned dollars per tire every time they need to be repaired & in the nearly 4 years that we've owned the car have had to be replaced three times which is an absolute joke.
The infotainment system is a slow-laggy mess and looks incredibly cheap. So much so that my mother prefers the 2007 Navigation system in the Honda that i drive. The touch pad & swivel wheel combination is so clumsy to use compared to the touchscreen in my car & even the remote touch joystick in my Dad's 2016 Lexus RX450h!
The random issues in the vehicle make you question Merc's slogan of 'The Best or Nothing'. Back door's randomly opening whilst driving, transmission shifter taking three or four goes to actually change from park to drive and so much more!
The lack of features is also a big issue, when your spending close to $70,000 on a sedan you'd expect heated seats, a nice sound system, moon roof, 360 degree camera, some of which my Honda has.
With all this & much more we will never be buying a Merc again. We are currently looking into the Lexus IS or ES as a replacement as we have been so happy with our 2016 RX. Cannot wait to get this hunk of junk out of the garage.
not worth it – I bought c200 sedan in 2015 - a supposedly reliable car. My endless negative experinces suggest otherwise. For me, buying a Mercedes has been one of the most disheartening experiences, from the time of my first service. To make matter worse, problems dont seem to get resolved in the first instance, despite the promise of unwavering quality. The… Read more
service centre seems unable, and to a certain extent, complacent in resolving the issues. Initially, it was just the car that fell completely short of my expectations, now the service centres ranks first. Kudos to Mercedes in providing a total expereience! The first simple and easily solvable issue was the tyre being fitted inside out. However, the technician refused to accept this. The error was confirmed to me by another private, reliable car service dealer. The second issue was a constant rattling noise. After the first unsuccessful service, this was only fixed after a second review. The third issue was loss of power while changing gear from the second to third position. I diligently reported this during my second service. The capable technicians did not think it pertinent to resolve it before the third. The list seems endless. But I want to write these down knowing fully welll that Mercedes will not pay heed to any of this. Soon the loss of power recurred. A reputed, reliable company like Mercedes explained it as 'driver behaviour issue'. So, it is still unresolved. As if this wasnt enough, the intelligent light system malfunctioned which has not yet been fixed. Owning a Merc has been a completely harrowing experience. In spite of the Merc being a decent driving expereince, after the recent service, I have just given up plans of buying another Merc because of the lousy and incompetent customer service experience.
Best motor vehicle ever – I’m not really a car person or enthusiast but after having this Mercedes Benz C300 for 10 months I so into this car. Everything about it is just class, performance and safety. I’ve done almost 30,000 km in this time and the car hasn’t missed a beat with anything. First service was at 20,000 km rather than 25,000 km- my choice. Cost was fair and… Read more
what I’d expect from a premium European brand. $380. Next one is about $600.
Surprisingly I have had really good mileage from the OEM run flats on the car- definitely at least another 10,000 km to go before considering replacing. 40,0000 km from original Tyres is pretty good in my books.
I have installed an aftermarket air filter from USA which gives it a nice sound and adds about another 10kw of power. Also have an aftermarket chip in it which is unbelievable to the performance. Of course MB dealers don’t like these things so I just take it off for servicing and they are none the wiser!
In summary, this car is awesome in every way possible. Swore I’d never own a black car but how could you resist? AMG package is fantastic.
Do yourself a favor and drive one ☝️ and negotiate a great deal... I did and haven’t regretted it for one second.
Lovely to drive – I have had it for three years now and love my car. the ride is really smooth. Appreciate the heated seats in winter, the auto parking and the fact that it takes control if I veer off-course or am about to hit something. I really have not done this without still being in control but the car was faster than me. I think it looks gorgeous, like a slinky cat and comes in great colours. Show details
Amazing experience – I use it for work purpose to go to my office. I use it five days a week. It needs to get service once a year. It’s a delight to drive a German car. They are so smooth and delight to drive . I would must recommend them if you want to try the best German car Show details

Great Car but DONT TRUST MERCEDES BENZ Warranty and Servicing – I write this to warn all parties out there toget everything in writing. Failed to honor our servicing despite massive problems in 3 years. Now, a $3k servicing bill and Mercedes are "non responsive". We will take it further but please please ask questions so you are not like us. Show details
Run flat tyres – I purchased the car as a demo in 2016 and I have replaced the tyres twice. The life of run flat tyres is less than 20,000 klms in my case and I believe more publicity needs to be given to this major deficit in an otherwise beautiful car. I believe many others drivers on run flat tyres are also experiencing the same poor tyre performance. I do not… Read more
believe run flat tyres are fit for purpose on Australian roads. $2000/year on tyres alone is a big hit. Am I right or wrong?
Two weeks with a petrol C250 – We holidayed with a petrol C250 sedan for two weeks and the verdict, comfortable and fun. We travelled about 2500 kms with about 60% country, %40 urban. it's not really.
The bad.
-Couldn't find air con seats, maybe an option?
They are a must option for Perth, Brisbane and anywhere north.
- Little hesitant when rolling then hitting the go pedal.
- 3 Year warranty. When you pay a premium it's only fair to expect the manufacturer to back it.
Our main car at home is a F10 550i which is a magic carpet ride, effortless and very, very smooth.
This is different and this is why it's so important to drive cars (maybe hire?) before buying.
Little gem overall.
Good solid car – Obviously being a merc the purchase price was large and the petrol and service cost are too. That aside it is a well built responsive car with some great features. Above all it is safe and reliable. I previously had a c180 coupe which was three years old. It was also a very attractive car but once my grand child came along the two doors were not practical. Love the car – Bought a 2015 C250 Bluetec with full options, luxury and economic to run. The only issue is the engine quite noisy but you can't hear much when all the windows are up. Recommend the car to any of my friends. AMG options, vision and comfort options are highly recommend . Show details
Excellent piece of engineering, but here is why I won't be buying one – I drive my friend's C200 for about 3-4 months a year when he is overseas, so it is not mine. This is a great piece, has good performance for a 1800cc engine, with plenty of luxury and comfort. Suspension is really good and you can adjust this, as well as engine performance. It sticks to road on corners very well. Quality of the sound system… Read more
is world class.
I love the gear change knob on the steering wheel, indeed I get so used to it I miss it when I drive my own car.
I like that the mirrors fold automatically when you lock the car and expand when you unlock. Other than the convenience, this also helps you know if the car is already locked or not.
legroom and boot space are very good for a car this size. seats are very comfortable and supportive.
It has heads-up display which works very well and I fell in love with it.
The model I drive does not have heated seats which is bad for a car with this level of luxury.
What stops me from buying this Merc is their console and dash controls. This is one of the worst I have seen.
Things are very difficult to find. buttons are arranged in a long array and you have to look down to find the one you want to use.
There is a knob and rest area in the middle which are very comfortable to reach, but are not practical because you need to go through array of menus to get to the setting you need.
The screen is very small but it has a thick bevel so it looks big. I find this deceiving. It is not touch sensitive. You have to use the knob to go through the options. You find touch screens in much cheaper cars of the same age, so I assume this has been a design decision (a bad one in my opinion)
The radio settings are amongst the worst. You have to go through radio stations one by one to get to your station. Setting up favourites is very difficult. I found it almost after 3 months! once set up, even going through the favourites is not as easy as other cars. again, it is sequential.
Navigation system is not easy to use either. each time you activate it, you have to press a disclaimer button, obviously by pressing the knob. Typing addresses are more difficult than the ones that you just press the keys on the touch screen.
The only controls that are in-par with the rest of the cars are the ones on steering wheel.
So despite the fact that this is a great car, drives well and very well equipped, it has a very bad dashboard control design that is a show stopper for me.
So So – I bought a brand new Mercedes Benz C200 in 2014. Driving experience is just perfect. It feels like you are on the clouds. Extremely smooth and quiet. However not much of a legroom if you are a tall person. The features are great along with reverse park assist. Running costs are extremely expensive. Tyre replacement is about $400. with the keys. The batteries needed to be changed every 6 months which is quite odd. The car would be locked after I have parked. But once I approach the car a bit later and use my remote to open the car, it stays locked. This has caused a bit of embarrassment especially when I have my hands full of shopping bags. I had to physically remove the cover on the door handle and jiggle a bit to open the door. For a brand new expensive car, this should not be a problem. There are no heated seats. There is no head up display on the windscreen. BMW has this feature and the only reason I did not go ahead with purchasing a BMW was because the driving performance was not as good as Mercedes.
Great car – My husband bought our Mercedes benz c250 in February 4,2017 from a car retailer in campbelltown. travelling from Brisbane to Sydney and hit a kangaroo and guess the headlight was broken and it cost a 5300k to replace and fix the bumper. But thanks to insurance. And also it takes a while to fix it but they ordered the parts from overseas. But other than that this car is really great inside and outside.
C250..a car with compromises – My review is based on a c250 loan car with 1,500km on it. I had the car for 6 weeks. Good points. The handling and chassis is utterly superb. The car is unbelievably compliant and corners flat like nothing else when thrown into corners at all speeds. The torque vectoring is absolute genius. and this MB handles beautifully). Performance from the engine is relatively strong especially considering its engine specs. Technology and safety is great. Car looks fantastic and elegant. Interior is spacious.
Bad points. Cheap interior build. Hard brittle piano black plastic trim panels. Throttle is overly sensitive and it is difficult to drive the car smoothly. Stop start is very rough. Ride is harsh for a luxury car which might be partially due to the 19 inch wheels. They look gorgeous though. Engine is a little on the noisy side and gearbox is rough and lazy when hurried which is unexpected from a dual clutch. Nav and mutimedia screen is small and doesn't enable you to view multiple items at once. E.g. must have GPS or radio displayed only. Seats too firm to be comfortable for more than 2hrs driving. Artico leather might be fine on an A class but not a c250.
Car is a bit disappointing. You definitely are reminded you bought a cheaper Mercedes. C / "compromised" class.

plenty of legroom for front seat passengers. The vehicle is relatively quiet to drive. The Vision package was disappointing as the Head-Up Display has been dropped out of the package, although Mercedes Benz still have it listed on their website as part of the package and the Dealer I purchased from did not point out to me that the HUD was unavailable. Massive deception on the part of Mercedes Benz to still have the HUD included on the website but not have it available; HUD apparently hasn't been available for several months so there is no excuse for not updating the web information. The vehicle is economical to run and rides well in "Comfort" mode. The "Sports" and "Sports +" modes provide a tighter ride. The COMAND system is a not particularly intuitive, especially the Navigation commands. The dial and touchpad are a big gimmicky given that the system is designed to be controlled by the buttons on the steering wheel as well and it is safer to have your hands on the wheel. I thought the panoramic glass sunroof could make the car hot if in the sun for any length of time but it seems very well insulated and the car aircon cools it quickly anyway. Lots of brilliant safety features, alarms and alerts Mercedes is famous for and I'm happy with my purchase. Still not happy about the HUD being left out of the Vision package and Mercedes Benz not letting people know via their website.

the loud un refined engine. On the road it continues to intrude in the cabin and power is satisfactory but not over whelming. if not a little under powered.. I've owned a previous gen E class that was just beautiful but this cars engine is crude considering the refinement of some Korean and Japanese cars. This car would suit a elderly person or real estate agent but for me it's a rough engine but for my money a fully optioned Mazda 6 is a far superior car with the exact same options and approx. 30 kw more power. and about $25,000 cheaper. Mercedes have dropped the ball and are now just building run of the mill cars. Servicing is 12 months 25,000km on it and each service is priced at $900 basic. Keep walking.
Nice but not what it should be – Very nimble and enough power but gearbox feels nervous and just doesn't quite deliver that European luxury car feel. Handles well but doesn't feel sure footed. Very expensive vehicle to maintain!! Poor Design!! – After being a loyal BMW customer for over 15 years we decided to replace one of our BMW's with the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205, What a horrible experience it has been. The bump in the road was a worrying one, the vehicles rear tyres wore out in 15,000 klms! at $600.00 a pair it was a cost that wasn't accounted for. After speaking with three… Read more
Benz dealers its normal for the W205 to "Chew" rear tyres, together with an A service (Oil Change) cost of $750.00 the bill comes to a yearly cost of $1,350.00. if you add the 2nd year of ownership cost with a B Service and then four tyres you have a service bill of $2,550.00 its a money pit of a vehicle.
$4,000.00 of wasted money over two years is catastrophic!! God help you if it needs brake pads and discs. I put the excessive tyre wear down to poor final drive design.
A BMW with five years free servicing is on order, the Benz has been relegated to the scrap heap! If you want a vehicle with an excessive cost of ownership buy a W205 C-Class!!
The ultimate car? – I was reluctant to sell my Audi TT due to a growing toddler getting her feet squashed, but the boss told me it had to go. bargain upgrade which I recommend. It's the most amazing car I've ever driven and there aren't enough words to describe how awesome this car is.
Fingers crossed it's better than my old w203 which was utter garbage!
Well after 2 years I can confirm that this Merc is rubbish as well. After only 17000km I'm told the tyres need replacing (run flats are pathetic). The batteries in the remotes have been replaced but error message stayed on. The parking sensors stopped working and Mercedes won't fix under warranty. On the way home from a service the car overheated and had to be towed to the dealer.
I have now sold this car after 4 years and will never buy another Merc again. After only 34,000km travel the rear gesture control boot failed to work properly and only opened about 20cm and the auxilary battery failed costing over $800 to fix.
My new Audi A5 Sportback is so much better I cannot believe these cars are in the same class. The Audi is so smooth and quiet compared to the rough riding Merc, and to add to this it actually handles really well and is nice and quick thanks to a dual-clutch 'box and AWD.
Excellent car, poor service – After buying a brand new Mercedes Benz from Westpoint Star in Osborne Park, you would think that you would receive good customer service but it was terrible. So great car but many purchase from different dealer. Excellent car Very poor service Show reply
