This business is a scam, overharging people for work they don't do. Recently, I've called these people to fix an issue I have with one of the switchboard fuse keep triping. The electrician turned out quite late (although I made the call very late) and quote me $1149 for "up to one hour investigation". The work he did wasn't even related to a qualified electrician work, he just plugged and unplugged some devices in my house to find the faulty one (I could do it myself, but I thought the isse may be water related as it was quite a heavy rain the previous night). They sent me a bill quoting some work the technician never did, to justify their steep charges. Stay away of this people, their minimum charge is $1149 even if they don't have to do an electrical work!

I say scam – They charge you $140 call out to quote which they will take off if you use them. So my quote was for: install 1 x light fitting, swap 2 x light fittings, install 1 x exhaust fan, move 1 x power point, install 1 x power point and install 1 x light switch. quote but I think the guy was too embarrassed as the only things he put into the quote were the replacement of 2 x light fittings (supplied by me) at $1429.00. Yes you read that right, just swap 2 x light fittings which I have supplied. I think the scam is no one will pay this so they just get call out fees for nothing. Pic is of one of the fittings to be replaced, basically for something the same but bigger...

This is an edit to the above. After waiting a week for MEP - as that was the first time they could fit me in, (could have been yesterday but I was not avail), I am now without an electrician and having to find another - and was fearing that another week would have to go by while other tradies wait for the electrics to be done. But guess what? I got back on-line and and lo and behold in just over an hour I have 2 x electricians coming out to FREE quote. Today! Not in a week. Well I want to say WTH? Who the hell are these (METROPOLITAN ELECTRICAL PERTH) guys to stuff people around like that! What a wrought!

Once on sight did same faulting already done by me then to tell me 1200 to replace on 40amp rcd, 4 wires and fitted to din rail. Another 1200 if i wanted second one in the house to be done. Saved my night and our home – My power went out while making dinner on a Friday night, half the outlets were not working in my house. I called, and Trevor came to our rescue within a few hours. Turns out a breaker wire was loosely connected to the circuit breaker and over time was burning away at it. This could have started a fire in our home. The Metropolitan electrician ([Name Removed]) arrived at 9:15am the next morning (Saturday) and offered us 2 choices through his Mobile device to rectify the fault. 1. Gold Package - Upgrade all switches to RDC Switches at $4339 2. Silver Package - Diagnose and replace the single faulty RDC switch at $1489 We mentioned that the cost was quite excessive but he insisted that that was the market rate and his prices were 'fixed'. We had enquired about going with the Silver package but was advised that there were no guarantees that the issue would be resolved as other switches may also fail and that he would only diagnose and fix that single RCD switch. He subsequently suggested that we go for the gold package to ensure everything was completely resolved and future power trips would be isolated to that particular location. We checked the estimated prices online one would expect to pay for residential "Switchboard Upgrades" which was around $800 - $1200 and highlighted this to the electrician but he insisted that those rates were not accurate and were just featured to entice customers to contact them. As we had young children and needed to get our power back on we decided to go ahead with the gold package. When the job was completed around 5 pm, the electrician insisted that he be paid in full which we did. We felt very uneasy about the costs ($4480 including call out fee) and also the fact that our working switches were not left in our possession. I subsequently contacted our usual electrician on Monday who provided us with a quote of $130 (Includes callout fee) to replace the faulty RCD and this confirmed our suspicion that we had been absolutely ripped off. Subsequent checks on the company's reviews on "product reviews" and "google reviews" also revealed that there were many similar accounts of this unethical business practice on unsuspecting customers. We had tried to call the business to seek resolution internally but were advised that their customer service dept was busy and they would call us back but they never did. My wife had also requested they provide us their customer service number directly but it was declined. Our emails were also ignored. When we finally managed to get through to customer service, we requested at least half the amount back but was only refunded $750. The Customer service manager claimed they were a "premium" company to justify the gross overcharge. Extremely disappointed and cheated with Metropolitan Electrical.

I complained and got a call back, they asserted that this was their "standard price" and that they did the work required. They said that they run a lot of different locations etc. and at all hours so that is why the price is what it is. I don't know how that justifies charging over $1000 an hour and me paying more than 5x the normal price because it is clearly a rip off.

In Western Australia, the Building Code of Australia (BCA) stipulates that smoke alarms must be installed in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards. However, the interconnection requirement only applies to dwellings built or significantly renovated after 2015.

Ultimately, we found a local electrician who provided the necessary service, including a compliance certificate and the smoke detectors supplied, for just $370. While Metropolitan Electrical had a quick response time, we felt it was a significant waste of resources to pay a call-out fee for advice that was not accurate and then charge such an exorbitant amount.

My recommendation is use with caution as a last resort but only use if a quick diagnosis & resolution can be achieved. Don’t accept their quotes. They are way too expensive & it would be best to get an alternative.

electricians. Metropolitan was the first to come up. $141 call out fee seemed fair given the hour. It also gave no indication of just how expensive any further work was going to be! The electrician was prompt in showing up, earlier than expected - I was made aware of this, so good service there. An absolutely lovely young man was working the night shift alone this particular evening. I described my problem and time predicament, he got straight to work investigating the issue. Within ten minutes i was told i needed a new RCD. No problem, it was pretty old and original. No surprise it needed replacing. The surprise was the over inflated, ridiculous cost of the replacement! $990.....I mean, seriously??!!! It should have been no more that a couple of hundred bucks, five hundred at the most, including the investigation and work! I was in a bind, so agreed to the replacement. RCD replaced within ten minutes. Once switched on, it was discovered I had a short in the wiring for my ceiling lights. Rat activity in the ceiling the likely cause of the problem. Unfortunately my ceiling/roof space clearance is tiny and the roof sheeting needs to be removed for access. One person cannot do this alone I was told. But, two electricians could be at my place at 11am the following morning. This is where I wish I had had the knowledge that living without lights and ceiling fans would be ok. Power points work so can plug in lights and all appliances still work and there's hot water. The investigation, the RCD replacement and check of reinstated electricity was all done in UNDER an hour. But no! I stupidly paid in advance another $890 for completing the fix the following day when the two electricians could attend to remove my roof sheeting together. The issue is common and I was told could be fixed within the hour I prepaid for. The following day, not only were the electricians nearly 90 minutes late, it was raining and so no work was done. Fortunately the invoice for further investigation at a later date was declined by the person I had stand in for me. So I have prepaid for an hour already, knowing the roof was to be removed and wiring traced for issues and fixed. I am beyond furious at Metropolitan, at myself for being so stupid, and the lack of contact I have managed to achieve to try and resolve this issue. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY. EVER.

tried some tests on our system and then came back in the house to say that the job would cost $2800 for a service and if they found what was wrong they would take some of the parts off the price. But they also said they couldn't do it that day - despite them stating on the phone to us that they fixed most issues on the call out. They had to put in a service requests for a repairer and couldn't give us a time or date for this unless we committed to the $2800 quote. They said they were a premium service as they helped quicker than others so they charged more. We called the supplier of the air conditioner unit and just had it fixed, with two electricians coming out on sperate occasions and diagnosing the issue and then fixing it with new parts, with a full repair to board and parts for $600. We had to pay for the call out fee to Metropolitan but after complaining they refunded us. We were warned by other repairers that services who claimed to offer a repair the same day were usually full of false promises. And they were.

to have it fixed quickly. We contacted Metropolitan Electrical. They indicated that a technician could attend between 4pm and 7pm that same day and a non-refundable callout fee of $141.90 needed to be paid before any booking was made, which we paid. Their website claimed no extra changes for Sunday and no exorbitant fees. We were charged $939 on top of the $141.9 call out fee to supply and replace the faulty circuit breaker. The technician was at our house for less than 30 minutes and we later found out the part costs about $10. We later received 3 other quotes and the most expensive was $339. At this point we realized we had been completely overcharged and taken advantage of. We complained to Metropolitan Electrical and eventually received a $500 refund. If you believe you have been overcharged by Metropolitan send an official complaint via email stating the refund you want and that if you don't get a response within 10 days you will file an official complaint with consumer protection. If you get a phone call from Metropolitan offering a partial refund do not feel pressure to take the offer straight away. You can negotiate to get a better refund. Do not use Metroplitan Electrical and if you have been ripped off ask for a partial refund.
