Fantastic family car. Bought a grey second hand 2.0L automatic with 7 seats and 2wd, MY17. Have had it for 6 months now, with no issues. Uses around 6.8L/100km on the highway and around 10L/100km in town. Pros: Spacious, quiet, smooth, folding and sliding rear seats are brilliant, reasonable fuel consumption, accepts 91 RON fuel, 7 seats, Android… Read more
Auto, perfect size compromise between interior space and being able to park easily, reverse camera is excellent. Cons: Has very poor acceleration between around 30 and 60km/h, dealer servicing is quite expensive, has an annoying eco indicator on the instrument cluster, no rear air vents. Overall, my only regret is not buying one sooner. It's brilliant.
Perfect car for a family with children – I have been using my Mitsubishi Outlander baught band new, October 2017. I have never had a problem and very low cost in maintenance. It does 12 to 13 km per litre of petrol for sure as I check most of the time. So far I have run 229,000 km. My mechnic says still I can run onother 200,000 km without any trouble. Show details
Stalling Outlander Exceed At Traffic Light – Have had this 2016 Outlander Exceed bought from a dealer brand new. Vehicle worked fairly smoothly in first 2 years and continued 4 year servicing with dealer. During COVID 2020 lockdown when I wasn't driving car that much, I've had multiple stalling of the car when I stop at traffic lights and then attempt to move when green comes on. In some… Read more
instances, the car moves say 20-30 meters and then stalls as if the gear is off drive. It's happened on joining freeways, on normal highways etc. I've sent car or complained several times to dealer but on one occasion where they took the car for investigation they claim, the issue couldn't be replicated and hence can't help further. Strangely when this occurs, I just try pushing the gears in frustration and then the vehicles move eventually. However, it's always scary with cars behind wondering what's happening until I'm able to take off. Luckily it's always at stop and start situations and haven't had a car knock into me or stopped while speeding on free or highways. Only yesterday, the 24/11/2022, the scary moment happened again whilst on the Wellington road, around Rowville area. I feel so scared and angry that im helpless and cannot be helped by Mitsubishi to diagnose the issue at hand. Ive been told to record a video when it occurs by the deaker i sent this to but how can that be when you've cars around you and wondering what's happening for them to move. I need help and wondering if anyone has experienced a thing like that with the 2016 Mitsubishi Exceed model

Do NOT BUY Mitsubishi Outlander or Mitsubishi RVR – Bought a 2014 mitsubishi RVR in 2020. Ran ok for the first year although the previous owner did warn of owning this car. Since purchase to this day, the exhaust manifold needed replacing parts alone was $2,900 plus taxes and labour. Next thing right after that the alternator seized up which cost almost $500 to replace with an after market part.… Read more
Rear brake calipers had to be replaced twice because the constantly seized up. Although I had it rust proofed that did not help as I wished. Had to replace a rusted transmission oil pan $$400 plus. Just so you know mitsubishi charged over $700 for the caliper. All this happened within the last year. I will get rid of this car in a few months a buy the car I always bought in the past, Toyota Camry. Stay away from mitsubishi cars. There are no after market parts available because no one is buying these cars in any quantities so after market manufacturers are not going to waste time making parts they can't sell. You have been warned.
Fantastic SUV. Big Size but very fuel efficient – I am happy to say that after purchasing this SUV with a lot of comparison with other SUV's. I am happy with this SUV. The main thing I like is for a SUV it is very (very) twice fuel efficient. It has at times given me 5.8 Its/100KM equal to 17 Kms/Ltr for its large size and 2.0 Litre engine. Very comfortable and spacious. I have done so far over… Read more
100K in 6.5 years and its been fantastic. I like the shape and the size. The boot is very spacious. I used it only on paved roads. Infact, still using the Toyo A24 tires that came with it with 20K -30K more life on tires. I have averaged 15K per year. All previous services within warranty were done with the dealer. I ensure timely service. Other that that it's a real smooth running car, it just glides effortlessly. Did have some issue with the transmission giving a sudden jerk on the lowering of gears. I gave to the dealer, they sorted it and also got the alternator replaced due to some recall. All was within warranty and so nothing to pay. Overall I am very happy and satisfied with my decision to buy a Mitsy.
Happy Days – We brought this Outlander about 1.5 months ago. There is not a single thing we dislike about it. In my opinion ... in terms of value for money it has to be the best buy for what you get. We have three kids and they have friends who want to do stuff with us and now we have a seven seat car, so they can just get into our car and come along to… Read more
whatever we are doing. I just brought an iPhone X and it pairs fine using the blue tooth so that I can listen to music as well as use the phone or google maps. The interior looks good. One feature that my old car didn't have which the outlander has is a reverse camera, I thought this was a bit of a gimic but I don't think I could live without one now. I have also used the cruise control quite a lot on longer trips which I find is a bonus feature which comes as standard. We got a red car and also got roof racks. The 2018 model has a 2.4 litre engine and this is plenty big enough to pull our small trailer so we had a tow bar put on. We paid 29,990 for the Outlander and were given free auto, free red paint and free roof racks due to the end of financial year sale being on, we paid another $900 for the tow bar to be put on the vehicle. Our first service was free and then we get another three services at a discounted price, every 15000km until we have done 45000km which is a further saving. If you are absolutely loaded then you would be mad to buy this vehicle go and splash out on something luxurious and sporty, but for us on a tight budget, needing a family car without the bells and whistles, a reliable work horse that does everything we wanted at a price we could afford then this may also be the car for you.
Positive reviews
Best budget 7 seater – I use it 50% Uber and 50% family. School runs, interstate drives, except towing. I replaced the 18 inch wheels with 20s. And the ride is tolerable at times until i runover pot holes. I havent had any issues. Bought the car as an ex rental. The car has done over 230,000 kms, and so far no issues. Just usual maintenance from handbook recommendation. Show details
Great family work horse – Not the best looking rear end, but baby got back! Camping gear, bikes, Bunnings and Amart collections, tip runs, this all rounder does it all. Mine is a manual stick which handles smoothly, not gusty but able to pass in the right lane when needing to. Plenty of room for kids and dog. Great visuals out every side. Well worth the price I paid. Show details
Great car – 2019 car for my daily drive. It has good pick up & Good fuel economy - has Eco drive to use less petrol in city traffic. Back seats fold down for good space BUT it takes lots of fiddling & removing seat cushions to do this. Storage space for the driver is poor - space for drink bottles but not mobile phone. LOVE the heated leather seats,… Read more
hands-free calling is good with good sound quality BUT voice-activated calling is very poor. Very comfortable drive, DAB or USB for own music. It is longer than previous Outlanders so the reversing camera is handy. Slightly slimmer & taller. I didn't need 7 seats but it will help resale value. Less "bells & whistles" than other makes but also less things to beep & flash. On locking, mirrors fold in - great option with Adelaide drivers!!!
Negative reviews
Ok car nothing wow – Bought car Dec 2018 MY19 as liked the look and wanted an upgrade, had previously a 2014 ES AWD. The interior in leather makes the car look nice, the safety features are in line with the current market trend except that does not have the auto start stop. Car is nothing fun to drive, feels lazy and even having a good 124kw it makes it feel way… Read more
underpowered due to the cvt. So if you are very light on the foot and dont mind waiting for car to pick up speed car will be ok to run the kids around as have 7 seats.
Paint quality is on the low end, got a chip were you could see the metal had no primer so paint will flake.
Sold car in Jan 2021 with 4000kms not being used as completely lost the wow factor.
If mitsubishi would do a turbo engine that makes more power or make without cvt I would give it a try.
Outlander BUYER BEWARE – We purchased an outlander from MMAL dealer in Victor Harbor some 2 years ago and from that point we have been trying to get the surge/shudder sensation and reversing sensors that don't work regularly. It has been back to the dealer 4 times with no resulting fix however the service tech reported the problem to MMAL. Their response was and I quote… Read more
"The shudder/surge felt during deceleration is due to ratio change in the CVT and is normal for the transmission" this means every outlander of this model will have this problem and this should be explained when you buy this vehicle from the dealer. We have driven many outlanders of this model all over Australia as hire cars but have never experience it any of these so I can only believe we are unlucky with this vehicle or its and engineered concern. MMAL are not helpful with either of the problems at all so before you buy ensure that the vehicle seller explains this so called acceptable engineering defect to you. I can say if this is not a defect it can when happening at its extreme whilst going through an "S" bend could cause the driver to over correct and cause an accident. MMAL have been extremely negative and totally unacceptable with a response to our problem and basically don't care so if you are thinking of buying one of these please understand this defect or as MMAL put acceptable condition may cause the customer a serious concern. If you go to this website you will see the same problem above is a problem with Outlanders in America. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10177379-9999.pdf. Copy and paste this website and you will see a Mitsubishi Motors Technical Service Bulletin that explains the defect and then explains the fix. So much for the MMAL answer of its normal for this transmission.
Absolute rubbish – Rear main leak at 30,000 kms. Bearing at 60,000. Mistubishi Australia refuses to do warranty work as the issues arent big enough. Will never buy another mitsubishi again. Car has issues excellerating, but aparently its normal. Show details

Excellent value car, loads of space and economical – Used for both city and highway, it is comfortable, quiet and economical over 30k so far. Very good value car to buy, run and maintain. Basic model, but has good features and loads of usable space. Bought this style because this seating is just the right height, everyone comments on how easy it is to get into and out off. Auto cruize control… Read more
is brilliant, but lane departure warning is very annoying, goes off at cracks in the road and bus stops. The rear seat folding sequence is a bit onerous and there is just not quite as much length in the boot as my mazda 6 hatch. Why do they make SUVs with smaller boots? Very happy with the purchase otherwise.

Great car, no fuss driving – 2017 Outlander purchased new. I was reluctant to buy Mitsubishi, but this Outlander was way ahead of its competitors on price, equipment, comfort and quality. I purchased the safety pack AWD, and it was worth every cent. We have taken this car from South Australia to Queensland in the worst rain I have ever driven in and it never missed a beat. I would definitely buy Mitsubishi again. Show details
Great car – Cannot fault it gearbox is very different keeping it at peak torque has it's downsides but also does help depending how you treat it. Car is great on the highway seats are comfortable Android auto is not to complicated to work out. Suspension is good really comfortable over bumpy roads better than expected overall I personally like it for me and… Read more
my family we all fit middle seats are adjustable for the kids and the very back seats are split so great for all around.
This is my fourth Outlander – I believe the Outlander is best value for money of all vehicles in its category. It's not necessarily the quickest or best equipped, but for all-round value it's hard to beat. Admittedly, my usage is low, more of a runaround, so I can't speak for how well it survives long-distance commuting, for example. Certainly worth consideration if you're in the market for a family SVU. Show details

Good choice for second hand vehicle – I was pleasantly surprised to how smoothly my car drives. Fuel economy is very reasonable. Inside space and back seating roomy and comfortable. Best to consider bigger than the two litre engine, as underpowered on hilly roads. Show details
Great Car – I use my outlander to go to work and family outings it has heaps of space in it. Very smooth in driving i drove it to snowy mountains very comfi drive. Service it regularly from dealership. Show details
warranty repairs – Bought my 2017 outlander brand new within 12 months the carpet started to fall apart (no where near feet area) MMA replaced and said it was a good will. Roughly 12 month later same place same issue. Was told sorry its wear and tear through foot traffic. Funny unless u are driving with a twisted foot. I now in the process of taking them to the small claims tribunal Show details
Love my Outlander – We bought our Outlander 3 years ago as a dealer demo with 400kms. We're up to 75,000kms and haven't had a single issue with it. We've always received good service from Mitsubishi and are really happy overall. We have 2 little kids and have to cart around a big pram with 2 seats. There's heaps of room inside, even at 6'2 I'm legitimately as… Read more
comfortable in the front seats as I am the back. There's heaps of legroom and even after hours in the car (we do lots of long distance driving) I'm never cramped. I really rate this car highly. The only feature its missing is sat nav but we have google maps on the phone so not a big issue. Being a 2lt petrol with a CVT transmission, it's a bit sluggish and overtaking isn't instantaneous but it is great on fuel, cheap to service and very comfortable.
Happy with vehicle but not happy with warranty. Carpet falling apart, it was replaced once, – Mitsubishi said the issue is wear and tear, however the issue is on the side wall not on the floor were shoes can wear out carpet. Been told i have to pay for it at $1700. It was replaced once under warranty, but they wont admit its a fault. Show details

Perfect family car price and value very happy and good comfort – I using my car for work and personal use then for my everyday needs and doing the normal service and no problems at all. Very cheap to run and perfect space. Show details
Don't bother – Very bad on fuel, for a 60 litre tank the maximum I get out of it is 500kms no matter how I drive.Sensors in the car keep going off randomly for no reason and connecting samsung phone via Bluetooth to play music keeps cutting out.Sound quality isn't the best and you have to turn stereo up to well over half way to hear it properly. Excellent car – Got this after a lot of bargain at 28.7k. Needed a seven seater for my family and the regular visitors from overseas. engine and got enough power to overtake on the road. Use sport mode if you want immediate power.
Go for it if you are after seven seater and practical family car.
Cheers.
Great car at a great price – We are a family of four and this car is great, comfortably fits two car seats at the back however it's too tight for a 3rd adult in the middle. You would have to buy more slim line baby car seats. I like that it is a 7 seater. Lot's of room. Show details
Great value for money – Replaced our 2014 with a 2018 ls 7 seater. Great price for a 7 seater. Has all you need. Hasnt let us down its a great family car. For day to day or roadtrips it does it all Show details
OUTLANDER OUT PROFORMS ITSELF – Bought this car over a year ago and it has been great unlike my 2 previous Holden's that were useless. The car is comfortable, suits larger people, easy to drive and most of the "bells and whistles for a really reasonably priced car ($27000 demo 500km on the clock from Rockingham). I wish the phone connection worked better with android as it… Read more · 1
doesn't seem to like Samsung Phones and can be difficult to connect and stay connected but does work well with Apple phones. I think the sales people could be more professional and more helpful considering the amount you are spending I have had better service in MacDonald's buying a burger. However usually the service people are good to deal with and helpful. Overall I would recommend this as a great reliable family car easy to park and go on long drives or fill up with the weekly shop. It has also proven to be very economical compared to my Barina and Colorado.
Awesome - a step ahead of the rest – 140k's a day mixed freeway and city driving and weekenders. Great all round car, smooth on freeways at high speeds, responsive from a red light and fuel efficient. Services only ever 15,000k's ( unlike others ) and still same price, value ! We've always had pajero's tritons lancers 380's Vrx / pajero sport also and never skipped a beat at all, but… Read more
have lasted with high k's. Tried BMW and VW but was hopeless the x3 was a beautiful car but died at 96,000k's. Just love this outlander fits our two large dogs in easy, and is our cheap commuter car but has everything you need. Extremely safe to which is ahead of majority in competition.
Excellent vehicle – Owned the 2017 zk outlander for almost 12 months and pretty much don't have a bad work to say about it. A easy pick when choosing a new car over Nissan and Subaru. Show details
Not crazy about this car – Chose this car because of country travel and 3 rows of seats. Lots of extras with top of the range model including seat warmers etc but it feels cheap. Power is lacking on acceleration and not great for city driving. Will not get another Mitsubishi when my novated lease expires in a year. Show details
CVT Fails and its Expensive to fix – I bought a 2012/13 model outlander and after clocking 50,000 kilometres the cvt fail. I rang up suppliers and found out that too many outlanders in the wrecking yard mostly with failed CVT. A rebuild CVT cost 5,500 AUD and may last for another 5 years if you are lucky. No wonder why Mitsubishi is cheap, coz you will be spending a fortune once cvt fails. Show details
Best outlander model they have ever released – I’ve purchased the outlander LS MY19 a couple of weeks ago. An amazing car with all the modern features you can think of. Lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking are the best safety features I enjoy. Front (I’ve added this for $399) and revers parking sensors and revers camera are fantastic. partial leather seats, dual zone climate control, 7 Seats, cup holders, auto wipers, auto head lights, heated mirrors are some of the features.
DON’T DO IT – 6 months ago I purchased a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander LS model. I was drawn to the fact that it had pretty much all I wanted and needed in a car for just over $30,000. This car is a gutless fuel guzzler, I’ve had electrical problem after electrical problem, won’t lock, won’t unlock, won’t start, reverseing camera won’t work, the interior quality is absolutely terrible and the seats are uncomfortable. Very disappointing Show details
Great all round car – Great all round car. I had the base model which felt just as luxurious as the higher models (I just added leather seats). My only complaint is that the Bluetooth microphone was awful- people couldn’t hear me well, and the size of the mirrors hitting the wind seem to make it a bit of a noisy ride. Overall, it’s a great car for the price though! Show details
