Fantastic family car. Bought a grey second hand 2.0L automatic with 7 seats and 2wd, MY17. Have had it for 6 months now, with no issues. Uses around 6.8L/100km on the highway and around 10L/100km in town. Pros: Spacious, quiet, smooth, folding and sliding rear seats are brilliant, reasonable fuel consumption, accepts 91 RON fuel, 7 seats, Android… Read more
Auto, perfect size compromise between interior space and being able to park easily, reverse camera is excellent. Cons: Has very poor acceleration between around 30 and 60km/h, dealer servicing is quite expensive, has an annoying eco indicator on the instrument cluster, no rear air vents. Overall, my only regret is not buying one sooner. It's brilliant.
Worst service from Mitsubishi – Worst service from Mitsubishi. Not recommended at all. I will never recommend Mitsubishi to anyone after my recent experience with them. My outlander broke down middle of the road right after 2 yearly service from Toowoomba Mitsubishi dealer. Then Toowoomba Mitsubishi dealer saying we put Diesel fuel but we never put diesel fuel. petrol station fuel receipt and video footage as an evidence that we put premium petrol. We always put premium petrol. Both Mitsubishi dealer and Mitsubishi head office refusing to assist even after giving evidence from petrol station video footage, receipt and patrol station manager email confirming fuel type premium petrol fuel. Now Toowoomba Mitsubishi dealer not even servicing my car after my dispute and asking to go to another dealer and Mitsubishi head office also wont help after supplying all evidence. I take my car to different dealer and they are saying fuel type is correct and they still trying to find solution. Matter still not finalised in last 3 months. Worst experience I had with Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi head office do not care about customer at all after purchase. DO NOT buy Mitsubishi.

Perfect car for a family with children – I have been using my Mitsubishi Outlander baught band new, October 2017. I have never had a problem and very low cost in maintenance. It does 12 to 13 km per litre of petrol for sure as I check most of the time. So far I have run 229,000 km. My mechnic says still I can run onother 200,000 km without any trouble. Show details
Stalling Outlander Exceed At Traffic Light – Have had this 2016 Outlander Exceed bought from a dealer brand new. Vehicle worked fairly smoothly in first 2 years and continued 4 year servicing with dealer. During COVID 2020 lockdown when I wasn't driving car that much, I've had multiple stalling of the car when I stop at traffic lights and then attempt to move when green comes on. In some… Read more
instances, the car moves say 20-30 meters and then stalls as if the gear is off drive. It's happened on joining freeways, on normal highways etc. I've sent car or complained several times to dealer but on one occasion where they took the car for investigation they claim, the issue couldn't be replicated and hence can't help further. Strangely when this occurs, I just try pushing the gears in frustration and then the vehicles move eventually. However, it's always scary with cars behind wondering what's happening until I'm able to take off. Luckily it's always at stop and start situations and haven't had a car knock into me or stopped while speeding on free or highways. Only yesterday, the 24/11/2022, the scary moment happened again whilst on the Wellington road, around Rowville area. I feel so scared and angry that im helpless and cannot be helped by Mitsubishi to diagnose the issue at hand. Ive been told to record a video when it occurs by the deaker i sent this to but how can that be when you've cars around you and wondering what's happening for them to move. I need help and wondering if anyone has experienced a thing like that with the 2016 Mitsubishi Exceed model

Great family car – Absolutely a great family car never had any issues for the 2 years we owned it. Would have given the cars 5 stars but Only gripe I had was it had no power up any hills or off the lights and CVT gearbox Show details
Things to know before you buy an Outlander PHEV in Australia – I've had the Outlander PHEV Exceed for a couple of months and have discovered a number of things that were impossible to work out before purchase. Overall it's a good car - it's well built and nice inside. We plug it in each night and only use petrol on long trips. We don't regret buying it - however some of the PHEV elements have disappointing… Read more
compromises. Here are some key points I wish I'd known: 1. The third row seats are too small to be useful. A normal size child over 10 doesn't fit in there. Mitsubishi would have been better selling it as a five seater, with a spare tyre under the boot instead of a third row. 2. The car dings loudly when you reverse. Like, loudly. When I leave home at night it disturbs the neighbours. You can't turn it down. It's meant to be a safety feature for pedestrians, but it's excessively loud. A software update by Mitsubishi to turn down the volume would be very appreciated. 3. The Vehicle to Load feature is not very useful. I had a fantasy of taking it camping and running a camp fridge off it, but you can't because of the way it's set up. It has all the elements they're just not put together right. There is a 240V 1500 W power point, but it only works with the car actually running. Which means the screens are on (wasting battery) and at night, the headlights are on (there's no off switch). A software update by Mitsubishi to enable the power point in Accessory mode (ie with the motor off), would make it functional - you could at least keep a fridge running overnight. It needs something like AC mode - the lights are off, the aircon is off, the screens are off - but the powerpoint works. It would be great if they made that available to existing owners! 4. There are two charging ports and neither are as useful as they could be. There is a Chademo port (DC) which is capable of fast charging, but there are very few Chademo chargers in Australia and it is a disappearing standard so there will be less over time. The Chademo port is also theoretically capable of Vehicle to Load. This would have solved the problem of leaving the engine running for V2L but there are no Chademo-to-240 V adapters on the market, and there probably never will be (as it is becoming outdated). So the Chademo port is basically a waste of space. 5. The AC charging point is CCS type 2, which is what you use to plug it into 240 V power every night. It takes about 10hrs to charge. CCS2 charging stations are widely available, but the car's onboard charger is restricted to 3.7kW, which means that even with a 'fast charger' it will take 6 hours to charge. So if you're going on a long trip, and you don't have access to a power point where you park it, you will be running entirely off petrol. You won't be charging at charging stations because of the slow onboard charger. If you don't have a power point in your garage, or you park on road, there is no point buying a PHEV. Save your money and buy a petrol car, or get a full EV and charge it at fast charging stations. 6. The regenerative braking ('Innovative') mode is a waste of time. It uses fuel and it depletes the battery. It's the most inefficient way to drive the car. I don't know how it got past engineering testing. 7. For us the EV range has been shorter than the advertised figure of 84 km. We average about 64 km off a full charge. Still enough to do a day's local driving, but less than expected. 8. The fuel economy on petrol is worse than expected, I guess because of the heavy battery. We are averaging about 9L per 100km when it's on petrol. For comparision, a RAV4 hybrid (which I acknowledge is a smaller car) averages under 5 L/100km. 9. There aren't many of these in Australia. No-one knows much about them. The salesperson told me a few incorrect things. The service department at the dealership couldn't answer some simple questions. Online forums are international and don't necessarily address questions about using the car in Australia. The manual is 600 pages long but still misses a few important points. So you're kind of on your own trying to find information about the EV system.
Incredible PHEV! – We've owned our 2023 Outlander Exceed PHEV for just over 3 months, done 4000km and put fuel in it a total of 2 times. It fits our family of 6 (including 3x big teenagers) with ease and so far has been a very reliable and super high tech/ultra safe addition to our garage. Show details

EV Battery is very disappointing – Have a 2015 model and the battery has degraded to 44% , Mitsubishi will do nothing about this and a new battery will cost $14,000-. Potential purchasers of these cars be warned! The rest of the vehicle is great but this major fault makes this vehicle a disappointment. Show details
Exposed to hydrogen sulfide – I purchased a outlander phev brand new from Mitsubishi. It had a full log book service but the 12 v battery in the boot failed, filling the cabin with hydrogen sulfide, a toxic, flammable gas. My whole family, including my pregnant wife were exposed to the fumes as it happened in our garage. Lucky no one was killed during the incident although my… Read more

I contacted Mitsubishi motors after they issued a recall, but experienced the worst customer service - they simply didn't care at all. I will never buy a Mitsubishi again and urge anyone to avoid the brand.
Do NOT BUY Mitsubishi Outlander or Mitsubishi RVR – Bought a 2014 mitsubishi RVR in 2020. Ran ok for the first year although the previous owner did warn of owning this car. Since purchase to this day, the exhaust manifold needed replacing parts alone was $2,900 plus taxes and labour. Next thing right after that the alternator seized up which cost almost $500 to replace with an after market part.… Read more
Rear brake calipers had to be replaced twice because the constantly seized up. Although I had it rust proofed that did not help as I wished. Had to replace a rusted transmission oil pan $$400 plus. Just so you know mitsubishi charged over $700 for the caliper. All this happened within the last year. I will get rid of this car in a few months a buy the car I always bought in the past, Toyota Camry. Stay away from mitsubishi cars. There are no after market parts available because no one is buying these cars in any quantities so after market manufacturers are not going to waste time making parts they can't sell. You have been warned.

Mitsubishi delivers again. Purrr fect PHEV – I was lucky enough to get a 2019 hybrid outlander with ten year warranty. People still ask me the distance i can travel. They don't really get Mitsubishis PHEV intention. I never ask a Ford Territory or Subaru Outback owner how far they travel on a tank of petrol. The Outlander is not an electric SUV it is a hybrid! petrol and a full electric charge at the same time!
I can charge the electric battery on solar, on off peak electricity via the petrol engine (30 minutes of driving). Even via regenerative breaking.
I cant praise mitsubishi enough. They have delivered an all wheel drive SUV with lane assist, active cruise control, accident mitigation etc. etc. This is my second Outlander PHEV and I am sure i will buy another with ADAS.
Best budget 7 seater – I use it 50% Uber and 50% family. School runs, interstate drives, except towing. I replaced the 18 inch wheels with 20s. And the ride is tolerable at times until i runover pot holes. I havent had any issues. Bought the car as an ex rental. The car has done over 230,000 kms, and so far no issues. Just usual maintenance from handbook recommendation. Show details
Vehicle control shuddering when cold – After many months of arguing with MMAL head office they took our vehicle and tested it for the defect of shuddering badly when cold. It happens only when the vehicle is cold and when you take your foot off the accelerator when slowing down. They took the vehicle for two months and ran up roughly 1000 klm and could not fault the vehicle. They were… Read more
asked to drive it when cold and if the shudder did not happen within the first 10 minutes then they were wasting their time continuing. We also asked for a spreadsheet showing how, when and under what conditions their drive program was performed. We have had no such document supplied. They have returned the vehicle and have said they have found nothing wrong with the vehicle however they have changed the gearbox for a new one. It has been done under goodwill not warranty. Not sure why you would go to that expense considering their past rejection of our claim and them finding nothing wrong. My daughter has received the vehicle back and within the first 100klm it has shuddered well beyond normal three times with an independent witness who was in the passenger seat asking my daughter why she was driving the vehicle to make this happen??? She had just driven from an exercise class and taken her foot off the accelerator that's all?? So their waste of time in driving the vehicle and waste of money in replacing the gearbox is alarming to say the least. Again be wary of these vehicles as I believe there are many more of this model out there doing the same thing and you wont get the Dealer or MMAL to do anything to solve this issue as they have no idea why its performing in this way???

Why doesn't the cruise control work in EV mode?? – Generally happy with the car, could do with a bit more clearance and the bilstein upgrade does nothing to the ride except find every bump in the road. The lack of a spare wheel is concerning although I have obtained a Hitch carrier and fitted a Bullbar as well. Lots of tracks and suicidal Roos on Kangaroo island, Show details · 1
Mitsubishi deny any liability for bad phev battery – Mitsubishi will do nothing about the battery which only drives 32 klms on battery. Only 16000 klms and less than 18 months old. Dealer no help and useless BMU check demanded says down to 80% capacity. Disappointing Show details
Buyer beware – After having bought brand new a 2019 Outlander that has a shudder/vibration intermittently that is in my opinion dangerous we have had NO positive help from MMAL and have had to argue for some six months with Head Office now to get any type of understanding of the vehicle problem. After writing three letters/emails to the CEO of MMAL head office… Read more
[Name Removed] he has not had the common decency to even answer one of those contacts. He just sends me back to the Customer Relations Department that have put up brick wall after brick wall hoping we will go away. In one of these letters I have even said that the vehicle was so dangerous it was risking my children and grandchildren with an accident and then causing them harm yet he still did not even bother to answer which says to me quite clearly he does not care. Don't buy the new outlander until you get an assurance from the dealership that the known problem of surge/vibration has been eliminated otherwise you will end up the same as us only listening to "crickets"
Great family work horse – Not the best looking rear end, but baby got back! Camping gear, bikes, Bunnings and Amart collections, tip runs, this all rounder does it all. Mine is a manual stick which handles smoothly, not gusty but able to pass in the right lane when needing to. Plenty of room for kids and dog. Great visuals out every side. Well worth the price I paid. Show details
Ok car nothing wow – Bought car Dec 2018 MY19 as liked the look and wanted an upgrade, had previously a 2014 ES AWD. underpowered due to the cvt. So if you are very light on the foot and dont mind waiting for car to pick up speed car will be ok to run the kids around as have 7 seats.
Paint quality is on the low end, got a chip were you could see the metal had no primer so paint will flake.
Sold car in Jan 2021 with 4000kms not being used as completely lost the wow factor.
If mitsubishi would do a turbo engine that makes more power or make without cvt I would give it a try.
Great car – 2019 car for my daily drive. It has good pick up & Good fuel economy - has Eco drive to use less petrol in city traffic. Back seats fold down for good space BUT it takes lots of fiddling & removing seat cushions to do this. Storage space for the driver is poor - space for drink bottles but not mobile phone. hands-free calling is good with good sound quality BUT voice-activated calling is very poor. Very comfortable drive, DAB or USB for own music. It is longer than previous Outlanders so the reversing camera is handy. Slightly slimmer & taller. I didn't need 7 seats but it will help resale value. Less "bells & whistles" than other makes but also less things to beep & flash. On locking, mirrors fold in - great option with Adelaide drivers!!!
Excellent value car, loads of space and economical – Used for both city and highway, it is comfortable, quiet and economical over 30k so far. Very good value car to buy, run and maintain. is brilliant, but lane departure warning is very annoying, goes off at cracks in the road and bus stops. The rear seat folding sequence is a bit onerous and there is just not quite as much length in the boot as my mazda 6 hatch. Why do they make SUVs with smaller boots? Very happy with the purchase otherwise.
Great car, no fuss driving – 2017 Outlander purchased new. I was reluctant to buy Mitsubishi, but this Outlander was way ahead of its competitors on price, equipment, comfort and quality. I purchased the safety pack AWD, and it was worth every cent. We have taken this car from South Australia to Queensland in the worst rain I have ever driven in and it never missed a beat. I would definitely buy Mitsubishi again. Show details

Shuddering when cold – The vehicle when cold has a shudder and surge. They continually use excuses like its a fuel quality problem, its an operator problem, it happens with cvt transmissions.… Read more
Two years down and still trying to get some one from MMAL that actually cares. They continually fob you off and delay and delay hoping you will go away. This is a similar problem to the one in the same vehicle in America but MMAL don't believe this to be fact. If you want to buy one of these be careful and ask the sales person if it is a normal operating condition that the vehicle may surge and or shudder????
Love it! – My family love our outlander. We have 2 infasecure grandeur car seats in the back and a booster in the very back and there’s still heaps of room for a pram and groceries/luggage (for when we can go away on holidays again). Very happy with it as a small family of 4-5! Show details · 1
Outlander BUYER BEWARE – We purchased an outlander from MMAL dealer in Victor Harbor some 2 years ago and from that point we have been trying to get the surge/shudder sensation and reversing sensors that don't work regularly. It has been back to the dealer 4 times with no resulting fix however the service tech reported the problem to MMAL. Their response was and I quote… Read more
"The shudder/surge felt during deceleration is due to ratio change in the CVT and is normal for the transmission" this means every outlander of this model will have this problem and this should be explained when you buy this vehicle from the dealer. We have driven many outlanders of this model all over Australia as hire cars but have never experience it any of these so I can only believe we are unlucky with this vehicle or its and engineered concern. MMAL are not helpful with either of the problems at all so before you buy ensure that the vehicle seller explains this so called acceptable engineering defect to you. I can say if this is not a defect it can when happening at its extreme whilst going through an "S" bend could cause the driver to over correct and cause an accident. MMAL have been extremely negative and totally unacceptable with a response to our problem and basically don't care so if you are thinking of buying one of these please understand this defect or as MMAL put acceptable condition may cause the customer a serious concern. If you go to this website you will see the same problem above is a problem with Outlanders in America. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10177379-9999.pdf. Copy and paste this website and you will see a Mitsubishi Motors Technical Service Bulletin that explains the defect and then explains the fix. So much for the MMAL answer of its normal for this transmission.

towing with Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV ZK ES (2018-2020) – Despite what the brochures say the Mitsubishi PHEV ZK is not suitable (or rather safe) for any sort of towing if there is any chance of having to go up a slope. Fantastic SUV. Big Size but very fuel efficient – I am happy to say that after purchasing this SUV with a lot of comparison with other SUV's. I am happy with this SUV. The main thing I like is for a SUV it is very (very) twice fuel efficient. It has at times given me 5.8 Its/100KM equal to 17 Kms/Ltr for its large size and 2.0 Litre engine. 100K in 6.5 years and its been fantastic. I like the shape and the size. The boot is very spacious. I used it only on paved roads. Infact, still using the Toyo A24 tires that came with it with 20K -30K more life on tires. I have averaged 15K per year. All previous services within warranty were done with the dealer. I ensure timely service. Other that that it's a real smooth running car, it just glides effortlessly. Did have some issue with the transmission giving a sudden jerk on the lowering of gears. I gave to the dealer, they sorted it and also got the alternator replaced due to some recall. All was within warranty and so nothing to pay. Overall I am very happy and satisfied with my decision to buy a Mitsy.
The Mitsubishi PHEV Exceed 2020 model - after 4 weeks – Superficially it seems to be very impressive and fuel economy is great (got 1500km out of 30 litres of fuel) but in the 4 weeks I have had it I have noticed a few software 'bugs' (erroneous displays etc). It is also supposed to be able to tow 750kg (unbraked) and 1500kg (braked) but it cannot pull a light (400kg) unloaded trailer up an 18deg slope. The tow bar option is a waist of time unless all your trips were downhill. The dealer's service depart do not seem to know much about the electric drive system so they cannot give sensible answers to the problems I am seeing.
This is my fourth Outlander – I believe the Outlander is best value for money of all vehicles in its category. It's not necessarily the quickest or best equipped, but for all-round value it's hard to beat. Admittedly, my usage is low, more of a runaround, so I can't speak for how well it survives long-distance commuting, for example. Certainly worth consideration if you're in the market for a family SVU. Show details

comfortable in the front seats as I am the back. There's heaps of legroom and even after hours in the car (we do lots of long distance driving) I'm never cramped. I really rate this car highly. The only feature its missing is sat nav but we have google maps on the phone so not a big issue. Being a 2lt petrol with a CVT transmission, it's a bit sluggish and overtaking isn't instantaneous but it is great on fuel, cheap to service and very comfortable.
