Message: I have just (today) taken delivery of two Bugatti chairs. I already own a Moran chesterfield, purchased in the late 90's The difference is unbelievable. The Bugatti chairs are absolute rubbish. Looks more like fake leather. I will try to return or sell on the used market. Absolutely disgusting! Grant Show details
this company rips consumers off – I purchased a moran sofa on 30 September 2019 for $3,997 a two seater to be exact and after 3 1/2 years the sofa on the rhs will not move from upright position so I am perplexed and contacted this company - they told me that the warranty only covers the motor for 2 years. I am confused as to why they know it is the motor and not something else.… Read more
The customer service is horrendous and the person I spoke to her name is [Name Removed] is so unprofessional and rude I was appalled. She didn't inform me of this until I contacted her 5 days later and that she could not help me. I find this inexcusable and please be warned this company is so overrated and so overpriced for dodgy equipment. If it is the motor how can this be broken after only 3 and 1/2 years.
Well my Moran chesterfield suite is amazing and just keeps going after 25 years of punishment – Purchased in 1999 4 kids Dogs Cats Still looks new and amazingly comfy to sit on I’ve moved house three times and the Moran looks great in each setting Show details

20 years on – I have just finished giving my near 20yo Moran couch a clean and condition (will have to review Oakwood leather conditioner too). It was love at first sight with this couch and I made it mine even though at the time I had a puppy and this couch came with a “no kids or pets” warning as the leather is really soft and matt and instructions said it… Read more
couldn’t be conditioned. For the first 2/3rds of its life I was quite careful with it but was used daily. The last 4 years I’ve added two very boisterous boys to the mix and the couch has taken a hiding. The leather on the seats was starting to dry out so I took a chance and used conditioner on it, while it has changed the matt look it hasn’t adversely affected the leather and still looks great. There’s some fading on one side as it’s been close to a very sunny window but the leather is sound. This couch was built well, the back and base is fully sprung, the back cushions are chock full of some amazingly soft and supportive magic and the seat cushions are truly magic, I used to think they must be individually sprung but they have some magic combination of materials that make them the most supportive seats I’ve ever sat it. They have ever so slightly softened over the years but still give superb support. I will one day dismantle the cushion layers to work out what they have done (maybe a call to Moran might be more helpful) as I want to make cushions for my boat with the same stuff. I like a bargain like the next person but get much more satisfaction out of quality. I also hate how wasteful we are so when I can buy something that lasts decades and functions perfectly then surely the extra paid for quality makes it an eco-bargain! I am saddened to read more recent reports about Moran. I bought from David Jones, which was effortless and allowed a good deal of testing. In the day I think DJ’s and Moran had a great thing going, I do hope it is still an option. What we as consumers must realise is that if we choose to save a dollar on inferior products and not care as we are slaves to fashion and will want something new in a few year anyway then we are not only accelerating the destruction of our environment but also forcing quality businesses to either cut corners or close down. I paid around $2-3000 for this couch and can’t see me getting rid of it for another 10-20 years, I expect to have to replace the top of the seat cushion leather at some stage and maybe the cushions will soften to a point they aren’t supportive. I could probably buy a whole new up to date couch for the same cost but it likely won’t last as long, it won’t employ a local craftsman and it won’t give me the satisfaction that in a little way by being satisfied with what I have I am helping our environment.

Where can I get my old Moran lounge recovered – I purchased a three seater Moran lounge from David Jones in 1994 and it is still in good condition. The only problem is the seat cushions slide out and you end up almost on the floor. I am wondering recovering it in a different fabric might solve the problem. I’ve had the one sofa all these years whereas my sisters have had 3 or 4 at least. … Read more
I’m wary about replacing it as the same quality seems to be non-existent nowadays. Can anyone suggest a good and reliable reupholstering business in Sydney which good match the workmanship in this sofa?
Love it, second hand, at least 20 years old – Looked all over for a new lounge in ACT. All rubbish, made in Asia and overpriced. Have had Moran in the past, looked at them, and the quality was no go. Forums suggested Moran made in Oz with proper springs and removable cushions was the way to go. Googled it, and Lo and behold, ther was a 3,2,1 seater in Sydney. Paid just under 4 grand, and… Read more
everyone that visits is so jealous over The quality and comfort of our beautiful almost perfect 20 year old Moran leather lounge. Can’t beat quality.
An Excellent Refurbishment – My husband and I bought three Moran pieces way back in 2002 and 2006 and they have been comfortable and have always looked great. The leather was still in excellent condition. The last few years however the foam in the seat cushions started to deteriorate and the comfort was not so good. After looking around at similar new sofas I could not find… Read more
anything I really liked and so decided to contact Moran in Melbourne. I spoke to Debbie and she suggested I send in the lounge seat and back covers for a foam replacement. I was impressed that Moran still had the details of my original purchase and was able to match the type of foam to what it was when new. Within 3 weeks the refilled seats and backs were couriered back and we zipped them back onto the awaiting frames. I have to report that the two lounges were instantly as comfortable as they were when new. I am so very happy with the result and the service from Moran and I have my very comfortable lounges back for a fraction of the cost of something new.

Moran Lounge Frame defect is hidden by the seat cushions that slide out with you almost to the floor – I purchased a Moran 2 and half seater from Chatswood Chase David Jones and have always wondered why the seat cushions slide out and I do too slide out off my Moran lounge and read in another review that I’m not alone and is a common problem even when I try to sit on it and not been able to sit on the lounge for the resistance not to slide out off… Read more
the lounge is to great and I found out after years of not sitting in it that the feather cushion inserts are not the same size as the cushion covers and the spring edge is much too weak with lacking an edge so unsupportive of seat cushions that hang over far too far so impossible to seat in it. It’s defective and the Sales manager of David Jones Chatswood Chase of bedding and furniture insists on a repair for the defective lounge because he is looking for a repairman himself and told me it won’t be easy to find one in Brisbane and he doesn’t know of any repairman in Brisbane. The Sales Managerof bedding and furniture at David Jones Chatswood Chase has lied about the attempts of five phone calls to me to disguise his personal need to ensure I am taken in to his efforts of help to me but in actual fact he doesn’t want to payout the full refund of faulty Lounge frame because it would reduce his sales amount at the end of the year Profit and Losses Statement and reflect poorly on him if his sales are not profitable. It’s not because he is solely lazy but it’s because he wants to not be down $8,000 in costs. Hence, he didn’t notify Moran and tried to manage the repair between himself, me and the repairman he couldn’t find. I contacted The Office of Fair Trading then Moran and found out they had no contact from the Sales Manager at David Jones Chatswood Chase Store until he found out yesterday Friday 11/03/2022. He quickly covered his tracks by contacting Moran to set in motion what he should have done but hoped I would not inform Moran myself and the only reason I contacted Moran was for the sleazy con job he was telling me on the phone and in his emails. My Moran Lounge is a custom made order for a Westwood Lounge with luxury fabric fully upholstered sofa with custom ordered armrest covers which doesn’t normally come with the sofa. I wrote to the Sales Manager to stop with his games and lies as a normal David Jones Employee would be apologetic for his conniving deceptive behaviour to prevent a loss in sales which would reflect negatively on him and his team. My complaint to Fair Trading has escalated to Warranty Team Member who has not only been disrespectful to me in writing by discrediting me as having “confusion” attacking my mental state. Just simply erroneous and slander and enough for not only defamation liability action but also to take it to the anti discrimination board. Warranty Team Tim won’t supply me with his surname in David Jones. No apology either was given when I wrote back to him to complain of his treatment and he never even checked with Moran. In fact he wants never to deal with Moran too in his email to me. I won’t ever buy another item in David Jones again. My son said he has never liked sitting in the Moran Lounge. The Moran sofa is a white elephant - useless to have around.
Not the quality I expected in an expensive lounge – My Moran 3 seater lounge was purchased in 2007. Only used in formal lounge until 12 months ago. The leather piping on one of the seat cushions is peeling off. Very unsightly. Thus lounge should last a lifetime no kids no pets. Amazingly I don’t sit on the cushion that is peeling. The quality of Moran changed from 2006 when the company was… Read more
purchased by a Chinese Company. Would never have brought this lounge if I knew that. Very disappointed. Suzanne
Made in China with Made in Australia pricing – Mr Moran passed away in 2003. By 2006 the company was in Chinese hands, doing what they do. Luckily our Moran furniture was made in the 90s, in Melbourne. Bought a recliner for my father in 2015 and it just went to the tip. Absolute rubbish. Recently bought a couple of new sofas of great quality with excellent customer service : Artifex in Western Australia. Worth a look and lead-times less than 3mths including shipping to the east coast. Show details

Never again – We purchased an expensive Moran Lounge suite several years ago, expecting it would outlast us as we are in our late sixties and it’s in our rarely used formal lounge. Hubby uses the recliner for a few hours at night. Over time the leather colour has been wearing off the back where his head rests. We have spoken to leather experts and upholsterers… Read more
who say it’s because it’s cheaper chinese leather and not tanned properly like Italian leather. They have shown me that the leather underneath should be similar in colour to the external colour as when tanned correctly the colour becomes part of the leather. They sent out their “ expert” Who said it was oil from my husbands head that had dissolved the colour. He has another recliner he has used for hours a day for over 20 years that’s still fine. I would never entertain getting another Moran suite and their customer service is dreadful. This suite was over $10,000 and they could not offer any help they said after 12 months. Moran used to be a good brand, not any more since they moved to China.
Great after-sales service ... a long time after the initial purchase – We have a Moran Active Comfort chair that is 15 years old and which has provided excellent service. Recently, two of the bolts attaching the arm of the Active Comfort chair to the chassis failed. I contacted Moran and was put in contact with the After Sales Manager. She understood the problem immediately and mailed me replacement bolts at no… Read more
charge in under a week. She was very customer-focused and the service she provided was gracious and helpful. The chair is back in service. Well done and thanks to Debbie and the Moran team!
Downward trajectory – Purchased Moran 35 years ago. It was great quality. Purchased another Moran (Benson Antique red/brown ) about 7 years ago. Absolute rubbish. What a shame! Design looks great; funcuntionalty terrible. I'm in the market for quality lounge but I've been bitten. Show details

I could not believe how Moran furniture quality and customer service is declined. I was kidding myse – I purchased a Moran recliner and after few weeks waiting, "Recliner" finally delivered, I found it is shocker, wrinkled leather, poor workmanship and bulky. However, I accepted the appearance and tried to use it and relax its comfort. Firstly I found reclining mechanism does not work properly and after few minutes sitting on the chair, I found… Read more
that I was sitting on 2 metal strips, feel pain and totally shocking and by sitting on it, like being tortured. I called Moran Customer Service Manager, who appears to be very nice lady and supportive. She told me that they knew the problem and offered me few recliners and asked me to select the one I like more. I decided another one, but seller told me that the recliner not anymore on sale and I need to pay full price for new one. I said WHAT???????, are you kidding me, It is a replacement, why I should pay. She answered, no replacement, you need to purchase new one, as nothing wrong with your recliner. I answered the one you delivered is not comfortable and Customer Service offered me another one. Finally Moran sent someone to inspect – as commented by other reviewer, this person had already decided before walking through the door that there 'isn't a problem' and it has been manufactured as per specification. I said, design is not a comfortable design and foam material is cheap foam. For this level of quality, we can buy a recliner for 300-$400, not $2000. Make story short they did not accept any responsibility for this poor quality product, and sorted out the issue with the store.
Moran warranty worthless, leather inferior quality!! – Bought Antique 3 seater Moran leather lounge. After 8 months, thought was dust on armchair brushed of with finger but actually leather came off. Morans response: you damaged it with something corrosive. Packaged warranty worthless. Will never buy a Moran. Adelaide
Total disappointment they had a good name not any more – Bought our lounge 8 years ago good for 6 years last 2 years leather wearing white patches on a black lounge not good
I like my sofas but – I have two really good Moran sofas and I am happy with them but.. a week ago I caught up with my ex who kept our leather sofas bought around 1995 and the difference in design and comfort was noticeable. A little extra depth, the perfect angle for slumping and easily getting up was great. That was the reason we shelled out the equivalent of $12 K… Read more
in today's money. And they still looked great, the Scottish hides have worn beautifully. Regretting not keeping them.
These negative comments make me sad. You used to be able to count on their excellent quality. Glad I got my current ones at an auction for a lowball price.
Chair leather – Purchased a leather lift chair. Within first week it had to have new Castors. Two years later after taking care of the chair to directions. The leather top layer is peeling off. If I had of known the Moran product was this poor, I would of got the old chair recovered. This chair is needed for medical reasons. We are very very disappointed.
Moran Bastille sofa - Chinese disaster – Purchased 2 of these based on sample on the floor at DJs. After a 12 week wait (not a problem if the product is worth it) they finally arrived. Shocker. Wrinkled fabric, uneven stuffing, pulled too tight in areas, loose in others. Moran sent someone to inspect - this person had already decided before walking through the door that there 'isnt a… Read more
problem'. Reputable furniture repairer in Sydney told us this is the worst they've seen for a long time.
Moran however refused to resolve the problem and claimed the furniture was 'built to specification'. Obviously quality control is not part of their process. So we are left with a $ 11K white elephant.
Be warned and be very very careful with these people. If you see furniture that you like, try to buy the floor stock.
But don't order from them, once its delivered you are stuck with it. Or go to Fair Trading.
Two Moran Sofas purchased in 1999 – We purchased 2 Moran sofas 20 years ago from Myers. Notably made in Australia. We constantly used Moran upholstery cleaner & conditioner. So comfortable often fell a sleep on then & still they look as new.
Once great brand now in tatters – In store Myer purchase of a Moran recliner. Careful use over 8 years but recliner mechanism has broken and stuffing is out of shape. Other cheaper chair of supposedly lesser quality still going at 15 years and was less than half the price. Just not worth the money.
Moran Benson 3 seater couch – So disappointed .Have had it for 14 years. Leather has ripped and pealed everywhere. After about 6 years . It is not real leather. It is reconstituted leather. It peels and fades everywhere .For $ 3000 for one 3 seater couch I expected top quality .Will never buy again Show details

Moran a disgrace to the great John Moran now. Cheap Chinese – What a shock. Persuaded my daughter and her husband to shell out for Moran 3 seater at ausction in as new condition. Most uncomfortable thing and they hate it. Really poor finish. Cheap workmanship especially the upholstery on closer inspection. Nothing like my Moran bought in 1978 which I still have. What a scam.
Tricked – Known brand and bought their Australian made furniture for decades. Long wait then shocked to find Chinese made. Lousy uncomfortable product promoted as Australian. Awful.
No issues with pruchasing, but forget after sales customer service – I must agree with a recent posting by Peter from Sydney. Customer service and response through their contact link are seriously lacking. Its no longer the same company. I have had issues with a leather and cushioning in 2 sofas, purchased several years ago. I did not get a response to my inquiries, including the latest, one week ago. I cant even… Read more
get a referral to an authorized Moran repairer in Adelaide. I previously (many years ago) had a wonderful experience with Moran Furniture, having purchased one fabric and two leather sofas, and later having the fabric one re-upholstered thru the authorized agent. Sadly, being unaware at the time of the change of ownership of the company, I let my previous experience influence me when I bought my new sofas. Very disappointed by the lesser quality and customer support. So, as Peter said, "be very careful buying Moran furniture because if you need after sale service you will be heartbroken with their lack of service ..."
My purchasing process today of my Moran loungesuite was excellent! – Thank you Sandra from Moran Furniture in Victoria and Nadia, Moran Consultant at David Jones Chatswood Store for your helpful and knowledgeable assistance provided to me over the phone and in-store re the order of my new loungesuite. You were able to answer all my questions in a professional and experienced manner. I found exactly what I was looking for today thanks to you both.
Moran not the old Moran of Melbourne – Moran of Melbourne furniture was of a very high standard but the company was sold some years ago when John Moran died. Moran is now owned by a Chinese company and is nowhere near the high standard of the old Moran of Melbourne. I have been unable to find a well made Australian-made sofa.
Always bought Moran – My first purchase of Moran a few years ago was in a department Store we have recently been through the same procedure with another' Department Store the Service was excellent..
Terrible service and furniture – Bought 2 Moran Benson antique leather lounges in 2005 for $5600 thinking they would be the best. Colour started to come off after a short time so couldn't wipe off marks with a damp cloth. They sent the Leather Doctor out who said nothing wrong, that was normal. After 5 years the surface of the leather started to peel off. Sent email to Moran… Read more
with no response. We will now have to throw the lounges away as they look terrible.
Last phone call to Moran I was told that they are not going to do anything about. Terrible service and rubbish furniture.
Terrible customer service – Be very careful buying Moran furniture because if you need after sale service you will be heartbroken with their lack of service, once they have your money you are a nobody to them.
Uncomfortable recline design – I bought two recliners with stools from a department store in Adelaide. Previous purchases have been really comfortable. Really disappointment with the latest purchase costing $3000. The chairs recline at the back but the seat remains parallel to the ground.
$12000 mistake – bought 2, 3 seater couches, MORAN @ DJ's, $12K, nice if u don't use! 'COLOUR' in leather disappearing where we sit, response from MORAN, 'it's leather, it happens, etc, etc'. BUY TESSA, HAD A SUIT FROM 1975 - 2010, still good enough to sell before we paid a fortune for this rubbish!,thought we were buying the best, the leather suits are MADE IN CHINA, SHATTERED
If I only read those reviews before I bought it! – I bought a recliner with foot stool from Sydney store and that recliner was delivered to me to Canberra. Since then, everyday I sit on it and honestly try to get used to it - instead I get irritated mostly with me being stupid believing advertising. I called the company in… Read more
Melbourne and they sent me someone to fix it. In vain. It's uncomfortable rough creation. How to get rid of it? But I paid $1600! Of course it's not the end of the world hut really upsetting. No thank you from me, Moran!
Terrible sofa – I spent $$$$ on a 3 seater leather sofa. It's terrible. I had it fixed by Moran. Still bad but not as bad as before. I will never buy Moran again. I bought this based on a sofa I bought years ago. It was a great sofa. I'm told since the father died quality has gone down significantly. I agree.
No after sales service – I cannot believe you are expected to pay several thousand dollars for a "high quality" lounge suite, only to be totally ignored when you call regarding a warranty issue. There are marks on the leather and lumps under the side panels, and I've been waiting 3 weeks for someone to call me back. Both David Jones and Moran Furniture have forgotten the concept of customer service.
