Mortein Control Bombs don't work – I used these bombs in every room in my small unit, followed the instructions, they didn't work. I tried again, after all, the Mortein brand is trusted and has been around all my life, they did not work AGAIN, i still have small insects crawling on me. THIS PRODUCT IS RUBBISH. Show details

Seemed like they didn’t work ... then they did – I have a small two bedroom square shaped unit with combined living/dining/kitchen. Very small. We had copious amounts of cockroaches. Huge huge ones that fly. It was terrifying. Once I read that cockroaches can and do bite I was terrified. They actually have teeth/fangs hard enough to puncture a nail! I read this in lots of pest blogs online! I… Read more

had a cockroach literally chase me I ran for about 30 seconds back and weaving from it and it kept coming at me like a bloody funnel web! That’s when I read online how aggressive some breeds can be and I was “HELL NO!!!! Ain’t nobody got time for that!!!!” So I purchased the bombs. I set three off- one for each bedroom and then the living area. Found the tabs very hard to lock down, my 16 year old daughter had to show me how! The house STUNK afterwards. I had to wash all plates and cups etc as we have open cupboard/shelving. Cockroaches still walking around like the soldiers they are. Literally sticking their damn finger up at us as they stroll on through the loungeroom to our kitchen as we watched Young Sheldon that night. Damn! I google to see if others have this issue... But apparently cockroaches can live through a nuclear blast so I’m thinking I need to buy me some radioactive nuclear waste and blow that stuff up in my apartment. So I went online and googled where I could buy radioactive material. Alas, it’s apparently illegal. Damn. Fast forward two weeks of spraying the damn things with the surface spray and I haven’t seen any all of a sudden. I read that it can take about 3 weeks. I pray this war has ended. Or I WILL go radioactive on their butts.

Seems to work – I used the Crawling Insect Bomb 3 pack in the golden packaging, set it off yesterday before leaving the house for 7 hours. I see lots of people struggled with the tabs but I'm female (and no Hulk), and found them easy enough to push down and lock when using the thumbs of both hands. We have a 100sqm, three bedroom house in a rectangular shape,… Read more

and I used the 3 cans evenly spaced out in the hallway between all rooms with all connecting doors open. I realise that I probably should have used more than 3 cans if one covers 16sqm best, however my main issues are in the lounge/dining/kitchen area which is all open plan, and the ants seem to hang out on the walls and ceiling.

After setting the cans off, I had to dash back inside as I forgot my glasses, and the mist was already everywhere, so it seemed to spread well into adjacent areas. Whether it was enough product for the area sprayed - I don't know. But there was a noticeable smell after returning last night after 7 hours and 30 min of having every window open. Can still smell it this morning. Hate to think what it'd be like after 6 cans.

However I believe it works - my main pests are ants and spiders - and there was a dead spider on my bed when I came home ("yay") - will have to wait to see if I see any more ants gallivanting about though. I also have carpet beetles but those little suckers have been sprayed many times and seem to succumb to nothing so I wasn't hoping to get rid of those ones with this, but hey, who knows. I shall report back.

They do work - Misled me though – I do a "preventive" bombing with this product about every six months and it's kept insects away quite well. Whenever I see a few spiders or bugs, around the 4-6 month mark usually, i know it's time for a bombing. Until I read it today in these reviews, I didn't realize that the 3 month effect was only for fleas. I'd assumed it kept killing for 3… Read more

months.... as had been my experience. So that's why the 4 stars instead of 5 as the misleading is quite effective.

To the reviews stating that they left 3 bombs and it didn't kill any, I think the problem is the coverage. The guidelines do say that a can is for a 4x4 i.e. 16sqm area room per can. if the ceiling is 2.5 m high that works out to a can for every 40 cubic meters. Three cans won't cover most houses. For an average 200 sqm house you'd need at least 12 cans, and I find it effective to leave them at least for 8 hours, but better still over a few days without opening anything (and not living there obviously at that time). At the very least, set it off when you go to work and come back late.

I don't know if you can try to complain to the company or return the product to Coles, that would be a minus but I always get mine at the sale and the hassle does not seem to be worth it. Having said that, if you already have an infestation, I'd go to a professional, I think these are quite effective as a preventative or "season change" measure and nothing more.

Really useful at killing bugs – Very easy to use, always find dead insects on the ground days after use. Saw a roach in a bedroom last night so bombed it today and found the roach on its back dying. Have used these for years and can't understand the negative reviews. Some of the bombs have slightly different chemicals in different strengths so its worth switching brands.  Show details

Had to use over & over but eventually worked surprisingly well – I was trying to clean up a vacated rental property - heavily infested with German & Australian cockroaches. They were everywhere. I was intending to have a professional pest person do but I wanted to clean, fix, re-paint & other maintenance tasks before calling. After initial bombing of 6 cans, lots of bodies but still heaps more coming of of… Read more

cupboards, walls ... I then continued bombing, doing 3 cans - half a house alternating at least twice a week for a few weeks. There were substantially less but still a few around. I also used surface sprays along cupboard/wall joins in areas of high infection. Then occasionally used a few cans & re-surface sprayed over the next 4 weeks. Eventually all cockroaches gone, far better result than I expected. So it appears that the property needed continual bombing over a few weeks to kill & break the breeding cycle. I never had a problem releasing any of the cans triggers, every one worked perfectly for 30 or so cans - much unlike quite a few of the other reviews here. Found the bombs very easy to setup & use

Easy to use – Read reviews after I bought 18 cans. I was tempted to go get a refund after all the bad reviews, especially about how hard they were to use. I must say every single can was very easy to use. Push the tab down, it locks in and job done. Bought them to get rid of an ant problem we had all over our house. confirmed. I only bombed the house today so I will post again to let everyone know if it works or not.

just don't do it, please, it was my last resort and i wish i hadn't have – I followed all the safety guides, even the warnings online. We were out of the house for over 8 hours, covered all the surfaces etc. My wife's currently asleep in our room which was treated that morning and she's woken up saying how terrible she feels. All the classic symptoms you read online, nausea, headache etc. I walk into the house (i work… Read more

Works but doesn’t last – It works but only for 2-3weeks, So fleas have a 3 week stage to hatch, so this kills all current fleas but doesn’t stop the new ones hatching. So you need to re treat again, I know this because I bought 3 cans, used one can, no bites for 3weeks then bitten, used 2nd can, no bites again for 3weeks, used 3rd can and same again, no fleas for 3weeks… Read more

now I’m freshly bitten again,

You can’t just use this solely which I’ve figured out,I’ve now bought a stronger product the 3month protection, so let’s so how this one works, I’m also going to go to more extremes and coat carpet with flea powder, use lemon spray everywhere, need to break the cycle, there could be thousands of eggs, which lasts a very long time, could take months to eradicate,

I’ve also been using a light/bowl trap, this seems to catch them, but doesn’t stop the eggs, To note, I have no pets, just takes one stray to invest your house

DOES not kill fleas as advertised – I have purchased numerous three packs of this product in the last three months, as after each treatment, fleas still remain. I've let off a 4th three pack again tonight and await the morning to see if it has killed the fleas. If not I intend making a formal complaint and seeking a full refund, along with compensation for loss. RAID and First Force… Read more

flea bombs are all just as ineffective. I will NEVER buy these products again and in future save myself the money, time and stress and pay $150 for a full, effective inside and outside professional pest control service, who also warrants their work for 12 months and if it fails will return to retreat till problem remedied. Seems there are too many businesses now, who's primary objective is theft from customers in return for shabby service and ineffective products. NOTE: All my pets are flea treated correctly with Comfortis.

Waste of money - terrible efficacy – Mortein is a good brand so I was surprised by how utterly ineffective this product is. Twice a year I do my home and normally use a cheaper brand but the pack of Mortein was on special so I grabbed those. Set them off in each closed room before leaving for work and when I got home the first thing I noticed was there weren't any dead roaches or… Read more

bugs anywhere. We don't have a bad roach problem but normally there are half a dozen dead ones after bombing. That night spotted a few running around in different rooms when I turned on the light and this continued for a week till i purchased the cheaper brand and did it again which stopped it. With the cheap brand for the first week we're picking up dead ones every morning and afternoon and from then not one for roughly 6 months. Seriously, buy the budget brand, they'll do a better job and save you money.

Completely bloody useless – After setting the bombs to spray nasty insecticide through my apartment I was devastated to find one week on just as many nasty little cockroaches parading through my place as last week. So I guess iI have needlessly exposed my family to nasty insecticides for no reason while I continue to stalk the little thing with my regular can of surface spray. Bye bye Mortein!

Does not kill spiders – Bombed the whole house. One in each bedroom and bathroom and two in linge dining room. Trying to get rid of daddy long legs but it just seemed to make them breed more. Did absolutely nothing. What a waste of $60. Never again will I buy Mortein product. Don’t waste your money. Talk to the experts and get a product that works. I feel ripped off.

Made NO difference in eradicating small house spiders – I set up the Crawling Insect Control Bombs in each room of our home. We went overseas for 3 weeks. I now still have baby spiders in our ensuite and dining room. I let off another bomb in the ensuite and no difference. I ended up spraying the spiders with a surface spray. I purchased 12 cans (4 pkts), what a waste of money.

A bomb that takes three weeks to go off? – I had (and still have), a flea infestation in my garage, a six metre by four metre space. More than a few seconds in there finds them swarming all over my ankles and feet. I purchased a twin pack of Mortein 'Power Guard' Flea Bombs, more than enough to treat that space, and at more than double the price of the generic stuff, I thought it would do… Read more

the trick.

I shook em' up and set them off, waited two and a half hours and went into the garage, one or two fleas jumped on my ankles. Not bad.

About eight hours later when I returned home and parked my car in the garage, I hopped out and in seconds fleas were swarming all over my pant legs and shoes.

I thought this stuff was meant to kill fleas? Maybe it just sent them to sleep for eight hours?

I rang Mortein the next day to see if there was something I missed. I was told that the bombs take up to three weeks to work...I mentioned that this is written nowhere on the retail box that the cans come in. The lady on the helpline said it isn't written on the box, but in fine print on the can itself right down the bottom on the last line of fine print, where it mentions that this stuff actually doesn't kill adult fleas at all and to use normal surface spray for that instead.

Seriously...can you make that information harder to find Mortein? On the can inside the box, the box being what everyone makes their purchase decision on, based on what is written on it, which is that this stuff kills fleas and controls them for up to nine months. It's written on the box over five times.

Considering I paid a premium for this product, and that it is advertised as being specific to killing fleas, the fact it doesn't kill adult fleas at all and the fact that this information is hidden away from the purchaser borders on deceptive business practises. Sure, you might have tricked me this time Mortein, but you will never get another purchase from me either. Stop being so sneaky, your customers aren't idiots, and don't appreciate being legally ripped off.

Tabs are difficult – The tabs were difficult to press down and it took me two tries. It works best if you put the bomb on the floor and press the tab down with two thumbs. I’m weak but they worked for me when I did it like that.

Tabs will not lock in place - wasted money on 6 cans – I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased. I've used other brands of bombs several times and this is the first time I've tried the Mortein brand. Didn't think there would be a problem but I couldn't even get the tab down to lock on any of the cans. Will never ever buy again, was a total waste of money as now will have to go out and buy my usual brand. DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND

Tabs don't work – Neither my son nor I were able to lock the tabs on the cans. I managed one out of 4 and was not going to try any more cans. A lot of spray went onto my hand in my efforts to lock the tab. A health Hazzard?,

Tabs were the only problem – I actually am very happy with the product, it works really well for us. I see dead roaches as soon as we come back in after 2+ hours and keep seeing them turn up dead for months after, they're even dead outside on the balcony and dont even make their way in. It lasts for 3 months or more. The more we've used it (every 3 months or so) the more time… Read more

we can leave between the next bomb. I think it doesnt leave a nasty residue or smell. 2 hours is a very reasonable wait time to be able to come back home. It's safe for house plants. BUT those DAMN TABS are sooo hard to lock, but I find if I put really hard with all my strength and keep it for a few seconds it's okay but it's really difficult and I end up breathing a lot of it since I can't hold my breath forever or it gets on my hands or clothes. My partner makes it look so easy but I don't have his strength. It shouldn't be hard to lock the tabs. It's so easy to fix the tabs! FIX THE TABS! PLEASE!

Tabs will not lock – As with other people I have wasted three bombs because the button would not click into place. This is obviously a problem so why isn't something being done about it. I end up paying for a pack of three when I can only get one, if any, bombs out of it.

Bad product – Very hard button to click into place. Got covered in spray trying with both hands to click into place. All bombs same. Will not be using this again after reading so many people have the same problem for so long and nothing has changed. And will spread the word to boycott as this is too dangerous.

locking tabs too hard to snap into place – I used 3 of these - the tabs were just too hard to lock into place quickly. I had to try and hold my breath as mist sprayed out and try to lock them. They did work as far as getting rid of pests but I wouldn't recommend them to buy.

Not happy – I have a flea problem so bought six Mortein bombs as I wanted to do every room in the house. After the hassle of turning off all appliances, taking down the smoke alarms and covering up computers etc, I could only get one out of the six to lock into place. I tried several times while trying to hold my breath so not inhale the fumes. I'll be returning these for a refund and won't be buying this brand again.
