understanding of construction methods, workmanship and building practices.

The excavation work commenced in pouring rain, apparently at the direction of Narellan Pools Macarthur. Apart from having to deal with mud being tracked onto my driveway and the road on a daily basis, what should have been a two-day process ended up taking a week to complete.

The next stage involved craning the fibreglass pool into the excavated hole. A 90-tonne crane was brought onto the site to lift the pool into position, despite the excavated hole having approximately four inches of mud covering the bottom of the prepared sub-base. I arrived home just in time to raise concerns about the ground conditions before the pool was lowered into the hole. I was extremely concerned that the pool was being installed on an unsuitable and poorly prepared base.

It took another week to clean the mud out of the excavated hole. Without going into every detail, I then had to witness what I considered to be extremely poor workmanship in the construction of the concrete structure encasing the fibreglass pool, particularly in relation to the steel reinforcement, formwork and concrete placement. In all my years of experience in the building industry, I have never seen such poor workmanship.

Despite these issues, I paid Narellan Pools Macarthur in full. The finished pool is not parallel to the house, and the waterline is not level. By that stage, I was simply relieved to have the project completed.

Unfortunately, the problems did not end there.

I had long suspected that the plumbing beneath the pool was leaking. When I eventually engaged a pool renovation company, the leak was confirmed.

I contacted the Narellan Pools Macarthur franchise in the hope that they would take an interest in investigating and resolving the problem. However, despite months of emails, the assistance I received was extremely disappointing. The response amounted to an email advising that a plumber would be sent to inspect the issue, but meaningful assistance never eventuated.

Eventually, I decided to arrange the necessary repairs myself. During the investigation, two leaks were discovered beneath the concrete. I had no option but to demolish the surrounding concrete to access and repair the problem. The repairs cost approximately $18,000.

I will never recover that money, and the experience has been both financially and personally disappointing.

I would, however, like to warn anyone considering building with Narellan Pools Macarthur to be fully aware of my experience before making their decision.

To be clear, my comments relate specifically to my experience with the Narellan Pools Macarthur franchise. I am not suggesting that other Narellan Pools franchises operate in the same way. However, I would also caution customers against assuming that the Narellan Pools head office will necessarily provide assistance when problems arise.

Building a swimming pool is a significant financial investment. Customers deserve quality workmanship, proper project management, accountability and reliable after-sales support.

Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Narellan Pools Macarthur and their Head Office Team
