Reasonable for Price – I picked up one to use with AussieBroadband. Positives: * Voice (VoIP) could be configured where locked to ISP modems cannot be. * The 5GHz Wireless performs well. But, recommend extra wireless mesh extenders if you are in a larger house. * Download speeds on a 250mbits/s FTTP connection clocks 270mbits/s and 23mbits/s upload. * Seems like a… Read more

solid Modem for the price. * Works well with a Netgear AC1700 Wall mount Extender.

Negatives: * The web interface is less user-friendly than most. OK for more experienced users. * Recommend buying the NF20MESH gateway instead, with the WiFi 6 capability and MESH units available if buying new. But you can pick up an NF17ACV cheap on eBay if you wait long enough. * Not the best in a big house or building unless you have WiFi extenders.

Overall a solid modem with the old AC standard WiFi. But for the most part a setup and forget reliable modem.

Second NBN Netcomm Cable Modem Router is faulty – The first one became faulty shortly after it was installed and Aussie Broadband exchanged it for a new one. However the second one is now running tragically slow on the 2.4GHz wireless setting, so we barely get 5mbps download. However it is unfortunately out of warranty. Show details

Move A Lot or Unsure of What Your Connection Will Be? Get This! – Bought this one for a relative who moves regularly (twice this year already). Why, I hear you ask with bated breath? Because it supports all the broadband options we have in Australia and has 802.11ac! You can use ADSL and all the flavours of the NBN hodge podge, I mean shamozzle, I mean ’MTM’…. To clarify, it can use Fixed Wireless, FTTB,… Read more

FTTC, FTTN, HFC, SkyMuster, and the one true Lord and Saviour of NBN, FTTP (amen). Unfortunately it doesn’t support a 3/4G dongle via USB or direct SIM insertion, however.

Another downside is that the set up can be a bit complicated on, for example, FTTN but Netcomm have clear instructions on their site and, if you have this modem as an option from your ISP, you will likely get it delivered pre-configured so this won’t be a concern.

Two VoIP ports are a boon for those who want or need to keep their analogue or digital home phones working after (fingers crossed) we are all on NBN.

Great price for something to hedge your bets and give you fast WiFi in the meantime.

Excellent Value and Performance – I recently received this modem from our new RSP for use with out pending NBN connection, however I wanted to see how it performed with our current ADSL2 connection, well I am very please with the outcome, finding a very pleasant surprise with our ADSL speed increasing from the Dlink high speed modem at around 5Mb to now around 7Mb.. amazing.. … Read more

Easy to setup and install.. fast local LAN speeds as well with all our devices easy connecting to the new Netcomm modem/router. So far cannot fault it. Yet to connect to the NBN but that is happening any day, all I should have to do is change the setting from ADSL to VDSL and it should work.. Will post another report once on the NBN.. overall.. Excellent modem/router.. You won't go wrong

August 17th 2017 Update: Now on the NBN with this modem

I thought I would let all know that we are now on the NBN FTTN, and also connected to Voip for our phone. Well the modem is working extremely well, we are very happy with our NBN speeds and internal LAN Speeds... Although the menu system is very basic, it is very easy to use and has many features that most of us will never need.. I can highly recommend this Netcomm AC1600 NF17ACV.. Must say also that the Voip system is also very easy to setup and works very well.

Meets all the requirements of a VDSL modem/router – Newer modems/routers should include all the features of the devices that have come before them, and the NF17ACV does just that. What I like is that it also includes a new feature that I haven't found in the routers I've owned previously, and that is the ability to lease a static IP address to any connected device. For instance, I have a NAS… Read more

storage device on my LAN that I access regularly through my browser, which becomes hard to find if it's IP address changes when the router is rebooted. Sure, I can set a static IP address on the device, but this has caused problems in the past when I've upgraded the router and its gateway address or IP range differs. The device effectively becomes invisible and I have no choice but to connect it to the original router in order to reach it again and reset its IP address. With the ability to lease an IP address, the NAS device continues to seek a dynamic IP address when it connects to the router, and the router itself is the one that gives it the ongoing static address. Changing routers then means that the device connects cleanly to the new router without issue. This router identifies the device by its MAC address, which never changes, and even if the IP address allocated is part of the regular dynamic IP range, only that device can use that address, meaning that there will never be any device conflicts, which static IP addresses cannot ensure. I use this modem for its VDSL abilities, but it also supports both ADSL and Fibre, so it should see us into the future as well. As an NBN modem, I am very happy with its performance.

Great for its price – I have had a Netcomm nf17 for almost 2 years and it has been a solid and reliable unit. For its price it performs very well on WiFi and actually exceeds the performance of the Netgear router my isp made me purchase that is meant to be far superior. Very happy with Netcomm and would purchase another one if this unit ever had any problems.  Show details

Good but can be better – I got this product as part of my NBN / Voip setup. It has been working ok (it needs to be rebooted sometimes however) but my download speeds have been terrible (3-4mbps). The wireless signal does not seem to be strong enough resulting in a slow connection to my computer. I have recently purchased a TP-Link AV200 Powerline Adapter kit ($95) which… Read more

has fixed the problem immediately - I am now getting 35mbps (thats a 10x speed improvement!). Would recommend this fix to others who are having connection issues.

Good Modem – Got this modem with a new FTTN NBN connection through my ISP. The modem was preconfigured, but going into the settings to change the wifi password was very easy. Wifi has a strong signal throughout the house using my laptop and streaming with Chromecast. Although I've lost wifi connection with my laptop on a couple of occasions in the past 4 months, the modem has a solid connection most of the time. Good modem for the price.  Show details

Deceptive - presents well but performs poorly – My ISP had 2 offerings, with this being the better (higher priced) option. From the beginning I wasn't a fan. Wi-Fi range significantly less than my ADSL2 router. Also slow to upload (on pc). After 15 months, NBN techie came to repair line and noted it was dropping packets (his words). ISP not interested in replacement - saying it has only a 12 month warranty. Suggest you consider other options. Show details

Just OK – Initially had no problems but after 18 months does not work properly even though I have not changed any setting. Unable to get both the 2.4 and 5 WiFi showing at the same time on Networks. Experts have tried to fix the problem with no success. Internet provider offered to refund the money paid for the device which I have accepted. Very disappointing. Show details

Easily bricked ! – it’s bricked after I manually updated it to NF18acv firmware by mistake. The device would not auto update firmware and would not reject incompatible firmware. Contacted netcomm tech support, they said it’s not recoverable and situation like this is not under warranty. Very bad experience Show details

Great Connection speed but drops when streaming – Got this modem pre-configured for free off ISP for FTTN. Connected at great Connection Rate but when using over wired and wireless to stream video it was very disappointing. I changed this modem for the DLink Taipan AC3200 and what a difference that made. Before it would stream between 4 and 11 Mbps constantly changing the video stream rate. Now with the DLink Taipan AC3200 it hits 15 Mbps without any issues and stays there.  Show details

It’s OK – I purchase this modem for connecting NBN. After changing ADAL to NBN, internet speed became very slow...(Sometime doen’t work) I am not sure this happen cause by modem or internet provider.. So, I’ll change internet provider and see how it goes. I might update review comment after using different provider later.  Show details

Works well – I Bought this modem from Mate Communicate as part of their Nbn offering. It appears to Work well and the range is better than my old Netgear modem as I can get a strong signal upstairs. It has two frequencies and is quite attractive as well. It was dead easy to set up  Show details

So far soo good – Actually not much idea about such gear, but, did receive from Internet provider. No matter what, it liked this product and is running smoothly. More importantly, I like the colour white. Easy to connect and everything is clear in it's label. Multiple slots for the additional connection and great speed capability.  Show details

Solid modem – I chose this modem as recommended by ISP providers due to my last purchase failing under load. It has dual band, great speed capability, the software is quite thorough though I miss having the basic "connected/disconnected" info which would greatly assist in diagnosing issues, signal covers whole house (just), and VOIP capability. Really appealing entry dual band NBN modem for users  Show details

Good modem - works solidly – This is a very solid modem. The quality of the signal is not too strong but it works. It looks good, fits a white room nicely. Latency is minimal and the connection is pretty zippy. Considering other offerings with similar specs, this is a very cost effective option. Get it if you want a no frills router-modem.  Show details

Good modem for NBN with VOIP – One of the few NBN approved modems that also have built in VOIP capability. Though I don't use the VOIP anymore, this might be a compelling reason for some to choose this modem over others. As purely a modem router for NBN it has done its duties well. The user interface could be a bit friendlier, but usually there's very few settings required… Read more

Much better – We had a (different) new Telstra modem November 2016 when NBN installed. Our speeds were pretty low. Complained and Telstra tried different things - finally sent us this new modem and since then our speeds have been where they should be with no dropouts. So we are very happy with it  Show details

Good all round router – Purchased this router from my ISP for NBN HFC. Speeds are great at (93/39) Mbps for most of the day and night although I do get some dropouts (Unsure of if it is the fault of the NTD for NBN or the router itself) maybe twice a week but switching it off and on always does the trick of gaining back a connection. It does run hot for me so i keep a small fan blowing on it to keep it cool.  Show details

Works well when it works – I had one of these supplied by my ISP for my FTTP NBN connection and when it works, it works well. Reliable Communication – I have had no signal dropouts since I installed my NetComm AC1600. We use it for NBN and it has medium to good range. Voip works well. Works with ADSL as well as NBN. This is a very reliable dual band modem. It is a great pleasure to use in my home office.  Show details

Trusted and reliable – I love Netcomm for routers. I owned a couple in the past and they always worked well. We do not experience any dropouts or loss of signal. the only thing that needs improvements is the range of wifi signal. When I called the company they told me that I should also purchase a wifi extender and that is an additional $100. Other than that the router works well. I would recommend this router for a medium size property.  Show details

Good and reliable – This modem is my main source for using the internet and it has been like an old friend. You must show it respect as it is being reliable. The speed of the modem is generally good and most times it loads up pages in a respectable amount of time. Sometimes it slows down and freezes which can be a hassle.  Show details

Works great at times – We have recently switched to NBN and this router is the one provided to us with our service provider. It works fairly well and was easy to set up. At times we have to switch it off because the internet is slow or hot working but I'm not sure if this is because of the router or the actual NBN itself.  Show details

Good overall but has a limit of 15 clients per band – I received this modem from aussie broadband when I moved on to NBN. It is a decent modem considering the price is not that high. It provided me good consistent speed & coverage so far. The only downside is that I can only connect 15 max hosts per band (15 with 2.4 Ghz & 15 with 5Ghz). lot of bandwidth but need connectivity all the time. Most of IoT devices are on 2.4Ghz band and I can only connect 15 with this modem. Reliable and strong signal – I bought this router as a replacement and found that it works well in our apartment. The modem is stable and the signal is strong. I do not need to use a wifi extender and we have 7 devices connected via wifi. It is not that stylish in comparison with some other routers but then again we have it in the back room. I would recommend this router to anyone looking for a good reliable connection.  Show details

Ok value but not strong signal – This was the router provided as a package deal from my internet provider, and the set up was pretty simple. After using it for a few months, I think it is quite stable. However I probably would not recommend it to someone living in a big house – I live in a relatively small apartment but there are already a few corners with weak signals I have noticed.  Show details
