I just got a home loan through Caryn Mcilwain. The whole experience from beginning to end was incredible. Caryn is warm and friendly, professional, thorough and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Caryn walked me through the whole process and made it easy for me. I have recommend Caryn to my friends who just purchased their first house and they… Read more · 1
were so happy with the service they recieved as well. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend her for the best customer care award!!.
Unprofessional and unethical practices - submitted an application with my spouse to refinance my investment property. We did not request any change to the existing loan structure. After submitting all the supporting documents, they started sending emails just to my wife seeking confirmation whether she was happy to be part of the loan. Show details

Great Customer Service Experience – I would like to recommend Blair King from Newcastle Permanent if anyone is looking to secure a loan. Blair works as Mobile Lender within this organisation. Since we've made contact with Blair to refinance our IP in Victoria she has organised the valuation and upon satisfactory results and agreement Blair organised all the paperwork and the loan… Read more · 1
settled within set time frame. She was in touch with us all the time during this refinancing process and also ensured the cashback was well received as committed.
The rate we reciv3d was much better then our previous bank. We are super impressed with Blair .She is an assett to this company .Thanks again Blair. Happy New Year and wish you get many satisfied customers in 2025.
Refinanced with NPBS – NPBS offered the lowest VR home loan in the market and I decided to refinance with them even though I never heard of them before recommended by my broker. I was a little bit hesitant refinancing with them but the experience with them so far has been amazing. The customer support was very quick to respond and super friendly compared to other… Read more · 1
banks.
The internet banking seems quite straightforward, not too many features showing on the screen which I like as it's nice and easy to navigate and use just for my home loan.
So far so good!
Very helpful customer service – I had a phone call with Linda Hunter as I needed information for a Finance Assignment, despite not being a proper customer she was very helpful and accommodating to all of my queries!

One of the worst Banks I have ever dealt with. I opened my account online and provided full details. I received my government pension in the account. The Account was then blocked and closed for no reason. I received a cheque for the balance of my pension which I banked with my regular Bank. It is close to 2 weeks and the money is still not clear.… Read more
The worst Bank this country has. Why allow such Banks to trade. The government guarantees pension since we rely on that. However Banks in their wisdom and arrogance hold parts of the pension for no reason. My saga with this Bank continues.

While the initial home loan specialist I spoke to was very friendly and knowledgeable we were unhappy the only way to receive the cash back offer was to input our banking details into a third party application. The reason for the one star review is due to a phone call where a representative of the bank called us and suggested using this third… Read more
party service was okay and would not violate any terms of service.
Between my partner and I we bank between 3 different banks (everyday, credit card, and mortgage). We were advised by all 3 that putting our login details into a third party application is strictly forbidden.
I do not think we should be encouraged by a representative to breach the terms of service with our existing financial institutions without knowing the policies or details of our existing banking.

Absolutely putrid bank wouldn't not recommend if it were the last bank on earth. Had 0ver $1300 dollars taken from my account and when I reached out to this bank to get my money back was told that they wouldn't help and that the transactions were my problem. They simply weren't interested because I dont deposit over $5000 dollars a month so i… Read more

I called them and spoke about the land only loan when a broker was unable to find me a lender who would look at my unique situation. Reece was very professional and provided all the details with clarity. Within 3 days of application, I had an unconditional approval (2 days before finance date). We not only got the loan but got a competitive interest rate too. We are now going for a construction loan with them and plan to remain with them. Show details · 1

I would like to rate Newcastle Permanent Building Society with a ZERO. What has happened to what once was a fantastic bank. You have closed your doors on Saturdays at Greenhills (and upon searching all other locations) which makes it impossible for working people to do their banking. With the amount of scams in current times I am not prepared to… Read more
risk what little money I have on line for scammers to steal. I used to do my banking on a Saturday morning and enjoyed updating my various books. I cannot even open an account now using a book.. We are FORCED to use electronic banking which I cannot do. I am too old for internet banking. I am 70 but still working but not up with this technology and DO NOT TRUST IT. I have absolutely NO IDEA HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE, what interest it is earning or whether someone has STOLEN my money. It is just not good enough. You are closing banks making it harder for hard working people to do their banking. This is probably now days the same with all banks but I am absolutely annoyed that the Permanent has taken this route and I will now have to move my money to an account that I have access to, at least with a printed bank book. I NEVER receive any kind of a statement and you have had my money for almost a year. HOW THE HELL can I tell how much interest I have earned. This is probably why you do this so that I cannot compare with other banks. I am going to do my homework now and leave this miserable institution. Thank you for NOTHING !!! From a once loyal customer

Disgusting service – This bank is a scam to the community. [Name Removed] a case manager told customer a liar and you made the transaction. Say I’m not in the area of Newcastle then you can move elsewhere. Then why there a bank in Bathurst, Dubbo or 3-4 hour drive outside of Newcastle? The service of bank is unacceptable as I can bank with them if I’m local or not,… Read more
doesn’t matter where I live. I dispute the transaction as I couldn’t recognise it and not made by me. I have the right to dispute it as a customer. The bank should get a money back. Say I can’t tell her what job she’s doing when clearly she can’t even treat customer correctly and say you don’t need to tell what my job are like a manager that can’t investigate then quit your job. It’s like driving but can’t drive then why the hell are you behind the wheel. Simple. Big 4 bank dispute are easy and no question ask as they made it very easy and money back. Unlike this bank, ask question then later say you made the transaction and call customer a liar. This bank is a load of nonsense. Please bank elsewhere or go with 4 bank.

Beware of this Financial Institution – I apologize for giving a one star rating. That is because there is no lower score available. It has taken me four days of angst and acute frustration to withdraw my own funds for transfer to another financial institution due to the huge disparity in interest rates (1% from Newcastle Permanent v's 5.25%) The sum involved was considerable and… Read more
I am sure that had I been asking for a loan rather than withdrawing my own funds it would have been a much shorter exercise. So what was the problem. Well to start with they stated that the institution and the account details I was transferring to was unknow to them and they had to ensure that it was a legitimate banking institution. "We have to exercise due diligence said they" So I was made to withdraw $10 from my Newcastle account and deposit it into my account with the receiving institution. They then wanted screen shots of the transaction even though they were aware that the $10 had reached the correnct destination. I obliged but that wasn't good enough. At this stage (day two or three) I was getting to the angry stage. I had been asked insurmountable times to state my name, date of birth, address, member No.,account No. Now I understand they need to be carefull with withdrawals but when the same person on the phone keeps asking me to identify myself at least three times during the same conversation you begin to wonder whether you are not being stalled for some reason such as an insolvency problem. Yeh, I know it sounds paranoid on my part but for the love of Jesus, it is my money, it is going to a legitemate banking institution and it is being requested by me who just happens to own the aforementioned funds. In conclusion they then sent me a questionaire virtually asking me to agree and accept their conditional release of the funds and to answer a heap of questions re which account the funds were to be withdrawn from, the account it was destined to, the reference for the transfer, whatever that means ( For God's sake we had been talking about these matters for the past four days). These people are impossible to do business with and should be discredited for what they are, gratuates from a circus, and absolutely inept and unfit to hold a financial accreditation. I still shudder when I think back to what they put me through. I have carried out requests for transfers between other institutions and never never have been put through such rigamaroul before. These people are truly clowns. Bewary and be very afraid if you ever have the misfortune of dealing with them. Loss of interest due to their stalling amounted to approx $350 over the 4 days.

Don’t waste your time – Terrible home loan process- their due diligence was excessive and long winded. Advertised as an easy process- the reality was back and forth emails for weeks only to be refused over a negligible amount of income ($2000)- I could and should have been told that this was the case immediately. Applied for refinance loan twice, rejected with no reason that's advertised on their terms and conditions – Unethical and unfair practices. Absolute joke of a bank. Avoid at all costs! – We have been with NP for years wanting to avoid the 'big 4' and wanting to stick with a local bank. Worst decision we have ever made. which we now need to fix and pay for. Rather than support us when we needed additional funds for a building variation we were told twice to quote - 'beg, steal and borrow $40k from our friends and family' from our so called mortgage expert. We were finally given special consideration for a personal loan after months of stress with a promise of merging it with the mortgage once construction finished. When construction finished we were told we couldn't combine the mortgage and loan as we couldn't 'service' the loan even though to keep them separate it cost us an additional $500 per month which we had been paying for ~16 months. After multiple calls to try and get help with this all they could offer was a mortgage holiday which only benefits the bank in interest payments. They supposedly pride themselves on customer care but I never saw that and have re-mortgaged with another bank never to return to this joke of a bank. Further to this the website & app are average at the best of times and the speed at which they can 'assist' is slower than any other bank we have ever dealt with.

Although he tried to do everything within his abilities to stop this, such as contacting Newcastle Permanent as soon as he realised his account was being fraudulently hacked. As this occurred outside of business hours, the after hours team were ineffective and unable to help.
Subsequent to this Newcastle Permanent have refused to reimburse him for the money stolen from his account.
It is obvious from their response that Newcastle Permanent don’t care about their Duty of Care nor their legal liability or moral and ethical duty to protect their customers’ money.
