Beware of this insurer: while they offer the cheapest premiums on the market, their abysmal claims process and penalizing administrative practices come at a massive long-term cost. It took them over four months to repair minor damage to my vehicle, during which their complaints team completely ignored my repeated follow-ups, and I discovered that… Read more
their "comprehensive" policy shockingly fails to provide a no-fault hire car. To make matters worse, despite my 20-year clean insurance history, they issued me a formal "refusal to renew" letter more than a month after my policy had already expired. Even though I had no intention of staying with them, this delayed non-renewal goes on my record, making it incredibly difficult and expensive to secure coverage with other insurance companies. Do not be fooled by the low prices—the severe lack of coverage and the damage they cause to your insurance record are simply not worth the savings.
The service and the price for my comprehensive car insurance was first class. I switched from a previous insurer, because of the better premium and easier completion. Show details · 1
I went online to compare the market for car insurance and Oceania was on top of the list and for the lowest price, so going with them saved over $900. So I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for insurance to check out Oceanias prices. And it was very easy to do online. Show details · 1

I held a comprehensive policy with Oceania Insurance (underwritten by Auto & General) at the time of my not-at-fault accident on 4 August 2025. Oceania advised me that no separate claim was required because the at-fault driver had lodged with… Read more
Coles/Auto & General, and they directed me to pursue it that way. They also mentioned Swift Recovery represented me, but Swift confirmed they only acted for the registered owner. When I later asked Oceania for assistance, they declined to represent me and suggested I withdraw the claim. This conflicting guidance contributed to confusion and delay. My policy was later cancelled after the accident. The overall support during the claims process felt inadequate. I would be cautious when dealing with Oceania for claims involving third-party insurers.
Follow-up · What disappointed me most was that nobody genuinely tried to contact me and resolve the matter properly. I felt ignored throughout the process despite the seriousness of the situation. I expected fairness, communication, and timely assistance, but unfortunately that was not my experience.

Overall, the process was very efficient and smooth. This is actually the second car I have insured with the same insurance company, and both experiences have been consistently positive. The online application was straightforward, easy to follow, and the whole process was completed without any issues. I’m satisfied with the service and would be happy to use them again in the future. The process was a breeze. I have no issues and hopefully never have to make a claim. That is the only place I have no idea of what may occur. The rest was cheap, easy and seems to be complete hassle free. Show details · 1
Great purchase experience and quick turnaround in sending the policy documents. They even sent a renewal offer which was cheaper than last year's premium; a rare sight in today's market. Show details · 1

I bought the fully comp package for about $1,000 a year. It turns out that none of the listed coverage is actually claimable unless I am in an accident/incident and not subject to the long list of carve outs. In my opinion the policy isn't worth the paper its written on. Show details

You get what you pay for – I am suspicious about the other reviews regarding this company. It is a classic case of 'you get what you pay for'. They are cheaper than other insurance policies at present but they are very difficult to contact etc. They do not have a phone number. I needed to make a very simple change to my policy (adding a partner) and it took over an hour by… Read more
a very slow online chat. The person managing the online chat was also somewhat rude which was an unexpected part of the experience.

The most stressful insurance experience I have ever had – OCEANIA and its underwriter Auto and General, would have to be one of the worst insurance companies I have ever experienced. My car was stolen during the evening of the 7th & 8th April and on the morning of the 8th April I immediately informed Auto & General. But I had to pay the excess there and then or my claim would not be considered. So I… Read more
paid. (this might be an industry thing). As per my insurance policy, I was entitled to a rental car for 2 weeks or to a maximum of $1,000.00. My car was found and recovered 5 days later on the evening of Friday the 12th April with very minor damage (shattered left rear passenger window). The car was taken to a holding yard. This is when things started to go pear-shaped. Long story short, my car was returned to me 9 WEEKS after it was recovered. 9 weeks of which I had to rent a car at my cost, for 7 weeks due to the run-around i continually received from Auto & General. Due to the fact that my car was not returned to me in an acceptable timeframe, through no fault of mine, I submitted a claim for the money spent on rental cars. This claim was rejected by Oceania & Auto & General. Then, to rub more dirt into the wound, prior to when my insurance policy was due for renewal (mid January) I received a letter from Oceania advising they would not re-insure my car. As if I was going to renew with Oceania!!!! No way. Yes, when I took out the vehicle insurance it was a very good rate compared to others, but if I had known that making a claim would be one of the most stressful experiences I have ever had, I would never have insured with OCEANIA. Be very very careful. Yes, good rate, but don't make a claim. Avoid insuring with OCEANIA.

Great experience with easy to obtain vehicle insurance which was priced well. The real test obviously is if are ever unfortunate to need it, which is where most insurance companies go wrong. I liked the price and ease of obtaining the insurance. I liked how I could choose to pay in the future. Show details · 1
Compare the market had OCEANIA in the top 5, we chose them as the preferred insurer as the website was easy to navigate, the options suited us and being over 50 gave us more benefits. Show details · 1
I asked for them to update my policy with extra info for my financier, and it was sorted online within minutes. I cant believe how efficient they are. Im used to going back and forth over the phone to sort the slightest thing with these companies, but Oceania...EASY!!!! Thank you guys!! xx Show details · 1
Great Value and Excellent Service! I've had a fantastic experience with Oceania Car Insurance so far. The sign-up process was quick and easy, with very competitive premiums compared to other insurers in Australia. Highly recommend Oceania for anyone looking for reliable, affordable car insurance with great customer service. Show details · 1
This review is based purely on the purchasing of the policy. The process was very easy & the policy appeared to be just as good or even better than Youi, who had decided to whack on $250 to my premium for losing 2 demerit points for a parking fine...not even an accident or a claim of some kind. They offered to make their policy cheaper but they… Read more · 1
were not being very transparent about their reasons & I would run into the same problems when renewing next year, so I switched to Oceania. I cannot comment on their claims process, but their online process for taking up a policy is very easy with no unnecessary questions to try & raise the price & the policy seems to cover all the same things as before but at a cheaper cost & excess. Saved $350 in total. Top notch.
This is my second year with oceania insurance and I have gone through 2 car insurance claims and both occasions, the process from making a claim, booking the rental car and car repair, went very smoothly. I recommend Oceania Insurance. Show details · 1
Very easy interface and coverage inline with competition. Their quotes were very competitive and provide compelling reason to switch from much bigger competition. Giving them a try Show details · 1
Easy processing and great price – The purchase process was simple, and love being able to pay with American Express. Can't comment on the claim process which I hope I would never need to use it. Show details

Product review and handling of claim – Policy holder for 2 years with the on line experience easy to process and very good pricing. Cannot speak too highly of the excellent level of handling with all aspects of the claim from reporting, arranging repairer, hire rental and quality of work carried out.
Great first impression – This is my first experience with Oceania Insurance and fist impressions are good. Information was simple and clear and pricing was very competitive. Show details · 1
Competitive price for comprehensive car insurance – After my regular insurance company put my policy price up by an inordinate amount, I went online to compare quotes and was pleased to discover Oceania insurance which is underwritten by Auto and General. I could customise my policy to my needs and also pay fortnightly. Recommended. Show details

Terrible experience throughout – Horrific, rude and incompetent customer service - hiding behind chat and unwilling to help. They also failed to follow up… Read more
a lead on the other party involved at all, taking our excess of $900 happily. They made our lives exceptionally difficult when it came to getting the car repaired and now have provided us with a still-faulty car a long while later, making it clear that we're now responsible for picking that up with their chosen repairer. Cannot wait to change insurer.

Dodgy - you can find better – I have been with them for 2 years. I've never missed a payment and I have not made a claim, during that time. The renewal letter came and they were going to increase my premium by $50 per month. When I called they immediately sent through a prepared reason, which made no sense. They then wanted to try and reduce it back to where it was. DODGY? Show details
