My freinds and I had an unsatisfactory experience with Optifast shakes, it not only helped us to loose weight but also we gained weight. When we called back to rectify this issue with Nestle we were told nothing wrong with product but it was in reality. Please don't use these products and don't waste your money and time on it. Found the vanilla shake amazing. After suffering from leaky gut for the past 12 years I know longer experience this problem or pain, having just one shake a day. My stomach feels so settled and I am loosing weight which is a bonus. Show reply
I mix mine in a bullet- Best tip I can give is disolve some instant coffee in a little hot water in bottom of container, add ice cubes and about 220 refrigerated water add the Optifast and blend until smooth - delicious ice coffee for brekky and lunch! I have tried and dont like any of the other products in the range. I have used Optifast since… Read more
2010. I first used it under medical advice to lose weight pre-op. I lost 10kg in 3 weeks replacing three meals. That was very hard but proved it works. I have since used it to lose and maintain my weight by replacing 2 meals a day whenever I gain a little,

Horrible New Receipe Optifast – The new receipe for all the optifast products are horrible! The old receipes were nice and easy to use and tasted great. I was on them and lost 20kgs but I have wasted my money on these new receipe products. They taste awful and the mouse doesn’t set and has no flavour. Optifast, you have shot yourself in the foot as I and many others will be discontinuing using your products and going to Optislim! Show details
Worst customer service – Their customer care have absolutely no knowledge I asked about the difference between their milk shakes & bars wanted to know if one could help me lose weight faster than the other & mentioned that I have no medical conditions Received a "1 sentence" reply from a [Name Removed] who told me to go seek a health care professional to decide if… Read more
their products are suitable for me or not!! That's it There is no way that's a registered dietitian/nutritionist But if you check their website it clearly states that their customer care is a team of nutritionists
While being a bit skeptical about these types of bars & shakes that helps u lose weight, I emailed a competitor (Optislim) on the same day with the exact same enquiry The response I received fom Optislim was extraordinary A lovely experienced nutritionist eager to go above and beyond to share all her knowledge with me about the products I was really amazed
Here's a complimentary screenshot of the response you'll get from the Optifast people Save your time & money
Disgusting – I'd compare the smell and taste of this shake to baby vomit. Worst shake I've ever tasted!. Poor value for money to compared to other brands. I also brought a box of chicken soup horrible the smell is almost enough to out u off alone. The only win was the chocolate mousse box that I purchased. Show details
AVOID AT ALL COSTS – I was recommended Optifast over the other known brand for being a much better choice if I could afford twice the cost. I started in the other brand (2 meal replacements) and dropped 1.5kg in the 1st 5 days without side effects and not feeling hungry. The moment I started on 2 meal replacements on Optifast not only I didn't lose any further weight… Read more
but i got ravenously hungry, headaches, back pains, bad bloating and put on weight half a kg in 3 days.
Save yourself your money, don't waste your efforts and go hungry with this another Nestle useless product but find a better alternative.

100% would recommend – For reference I am a 30 year old woman and I started at 103 kg. I have struggled with food addiction since childhood and binge eating as an adult. My original SW 135 kg in 2018. My lowest was 90kg in 2022 only gained weight due to injury and mental health issues. So I have just bought 12 weeks of Optifast. I have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and… Read more
lemon crème and chocolate dessert. I am on the morning of day 6 and I can tell I am in ketosis. Dry mouth and no appetite. I stick very well to the intensive plan. My allowed veg I do eg frozen broccoli mix with splash veg stock and tomato passata (just a little to flavour the veg) with some mixed herbs and I do 1tsp veg oil (40ish calories). I go to the gym 4 days a week and walk my dog everyday, so I will do a scoop of protein in 1 shake which is only 116 calories for the one I have. With 3 Optifast meals (600 calories - 200 per meal) I easily hit that 800 calories a day even by adding the protein scoop. So far after 5 full days, I’ve dropped 2.1 kg but I know that’s initially going to be water weight the next weeks will tell me truth. I am able to stick to what I am doing, I am enjoying it and it’s not feeling like a challenge. I had prev tried other brands and I couldn’t get to day 3 without cracking. I had done another brand and lost 40 kg years ago and kept it off but I feel as confident with Optifast as I do the overseas brand I did. The flavours are great for all the things I bought as listed above and am very excited to get to my goal of 70-80 kg (but if I can get to 55-65 will be ideal - if I don’t get there at 12 weeks I’ll do a 2 week break and resume). Normally when I do this I drop 3 kg a week, but I know as you lose weight it can slow and on average 1-2.5 kg a week. If anyone is considering Optifast I would just say do it. End of the day the way you keep it off is by learning good food habits which you can teach yourself in conjunction with Optifast. Listen to your body queues, don’t eat with your eyes etc. I stopped shakes and tried and tested for years and yes I did lose 16 kgs and I did learn the ways to eat right to drop it but it was much more of a longer process and to me it causes a “weight loss fatigue” where you want to give up because your not seeing results as quickly as hoped. I’m looking forward to seeing my results then feeling mobile enough for the gym and eating well afterwards to maintain my health long term.
Lost almost 40 kilos. My pro's and con's – I lost almost 40 kilos on optifast, although I did stay on it longer than suggested. I found the first 2 weeks to be the hardest. If you can get through that, then you are on your way because the hunger subsides after a while. I found I lost all sugar cravings and I was actually looking forward to my soup/bar. The fact that I knew that it was all… Read more
I could have, I was not thinking about food, I was actually looking forward to the soup (I find being on a diet that allows you to eat...I do!) I liked to have the shake (although I stopped them after a while) for breakfast then a soup or choc bar for lunch. The soup for dinner with that YUMMY lemon desert for desert. The only soup I liked is the chicken soup. I could add zucchini noodles or cauliflower if I felt I needed something more. There is one huge con though, one that was so annoying/uncomfortable and that was the tummy gas that was constant. Must be the fibre (??). It was so uncomfortable and constant that I don't think I could bare it again. The product also contains aspartame which could be the culprit also. Why use that chemical when it is supposed to be poison.. why not stevia?! I have tried some other brands but I think optifast was the nicest in the products I chose to use. So, chicken soup good but add more water (I added around 200-250 mils). Lemon dessert..YUMM (but use a little less water so it is really thick, and add a teaspoon of stevia and place in fridge for an hour before. Makes a big difference, REALLY good). Choc fudge bar was the one I liked but only had them when I just felt like something different. The vanilla shake was the one I liked but ONLY WHEN I added a teaspoon of stevia. It is amazing how much better it tastes when stevia is added, changes the whole shake taste. I would like to go back on it now but the gas thing is stopping me. Couldn't use charcoal as that could take away some of the vitamin/minerals that are in the product. Apart from that, I was happy with it once I got going, and the almost instant feel of losing weight is what kept me going. Then the 'are you loosing weight?' question started happening from others. That kept me going also. Hope this helped.
UPDATE on my journey – I am updating my journey on optifast. I started September 2020 i started at close to 140kgs height 148cms. I do the chocolate deserts and chicken soups plus your allowed veggies. Its taken me 11 months to lose 50kgs. I started at size 26 in jeans and i am now size 18. I am naughty though and i do cheat twice a month. But thankfully im still going… Read more
strong. My goal weight will be 60kgs. So hopefully this time next year i will have reached my goal. Sometimes scales dont show too much loss thats why its important to get a measuring tape and measure your inches as i find im losing heaps of inches even though scales dont show a big loss. My advice is to weigh yourself once a month that way you will definayely see a loss. If i can do it anyone can i never stopped at one plate of food love my food too much. As for the health benefits my cholestral has completely gone my fatty liver has disappeared. I was pre diabetic thats gone also. The deserts, soups and choc bars are my favourites. As you trick your mind thinking your cheating by drinking sweet. I nomally will scull 2 glasses of water before my shake that way im content afterwards. I was going to do the surgery but waiting list is too long so i decided to do it and its changed my life. I hope my story can inspire others to give it a go.

All good, but hold the bars – Found Optifast to be the best. Losing weight and not feeling hungry. I tried the whole range. I found the chocolate bars to be too nice and binge with them, so cannot have them. Show details
Chocolate is the best! – I've had the chocolate for several years now on and off and it's my favourite flavour. I've tired strawberry and banana as well which were nice but I always end up getting the chocolate 18 box. I usually wait until it's on sale to buy them. I use it to replace breakfast, so only once a day. Eat healthy etc for other meals for the day. I do get cramps some days on it and other days I'm ok. But it's probably just me. Show details

Eight days on intensive level – I’ve been replacing all meals with 3 x Optifast shakes, bars or soups per day. I have 15kg to loose. I’ve already dropped 3.5 kg in 8 days. I use mindfulness to control hunger. Most of the time I’m not hungry. The products are not yummy which helps curb my appetite. I have two coffees a day with a dash of milk. Allowed 1 teaspoon of oil per day… Read more
which I have in a cup of chicken broth before bed. When I reach 10kg lost I’m planning to swap to 5:2 intermittent fasting and increase exercise by going to the gym. I currently do 3 low impact dance classes a week.
Negative reviews
Tasted okay but was not filling what so ever. In fact, it gave me insatiable hunger. I got this so I would have a meal replacement that would be filling and low calories but would be better to just have a low calorie meal that is satiating. Show details
Please change back to old recipe soup – Used to really enjoy your tomato soup. Having a salad and soup really felt like I was having an ordinary meal. Tried your 'new recipe' soup a couple of weeks ago...it's disgusting. No flavour, texture similar to glue. Just awful. Thought it might have been an "off packet", so tried another. Nope, gross. Threw the whole box away. You've lost this customer Show details
far too sweet – OMG!!!!! its just like have mouthfuls of sugar. its so sweet after 1 teaspoon i had to tip down the sink. I have tried other flavours as well and they are so sweet....even the soups. I have tried them all and all i could taste was sugar!!!!

New Recipe is Terrible - not worth continuing the program – I have used the Optifast vanilla and chocolate for 13 years and this is the second recipe change since then....the last change was just a different taste but still great. This most recent change is absolutely terrible!!! The "foam" or "mousse" that is generated when you mix/shake the product is just revolting and it doesn't go away, even after… Read more
sitting for a while. Nothing you can do to thicken up the shake, even used very little water and nothing, foamy and runny. I don't know how anyone subscribing to the full program would be able to maintain it for any length of time with these as their food source. I see a lot of people failing the program because of this. I can't justify paying the ungodly price for such a terrible product so unfortunately my run with Optifast ends here. Don't fix what isn't broken.
Delicious and it works! – I replace 3 meals a day with this deliciousness and am exercising every day. My go to is the enhanced protein coffee shake but all the flavours are yummy. Daily consistency and discipline has seen a regular weekly weight loss of a smidge over 2 kgs. Game changer. Show details
Aspartame substitute – Vanilla is great tasting but unfortunately it contains Aspartame, a known carcinogenic that may cause cancer. It also tastes sickly sweet. When is Nestle going to catch up with the rest of the food industry and substitute this artificial sweetener with a safe and natural sugar? Sorry, I can no longer purchase this product. Show details
Aspartame causes weight gain – Over many years drinking Optifast on and off, I was always suspicious as to why I would somehow put weight ON while I was taking the shakes. I've only just learnt that they are full of aspartame which is now proven to cause weight gain. Since completely stopping the shakes, I'm shrinking to my normal body weight at last. It was the Optifast that kept me fat all those years, likely so I would continue buying it to lose weight. Show details
Amazing results and fast – Ok so I’m only 10 days in! I have 20 kilos to loose and Other than the last 8 years I have spent most of my like fit and healthy. Just sick of lugging this weight around and feeling really unhealthy. I have the coffee, chocolate and vanilla shakes and just tried the chocolate bar yesterday. All are good. The best – I’ve tried a number of shake brands and always go back to Optifast. They keep me full and taste great with just water and ice. Others have sickly sweet artificial sweeteners added (eg Lady Shake and Healthy Mummy … both yuck!). Optifast wins every time. The only other brand I like is Isowhey. Show details · 1
Love it – Just pour more water - 300mls up of cold water and more yummy and better texture… i love it with chilled water … it’s been 5 days sjnce I started using it and lost 3 kgs already!! It works for me – Used Optifast strawberry or coffee for years as a supplement at lunch. Low fat milk & ice in a shaker. I don’t get hungry and if I do I will have a piece of fruit in the afternoon. Don’t like the other flavours. Show details
Confused by negative reviews – I think people must try a lot of different meal replacement shakes and get them confused with this one. The flavours are great and texture just like regular milkshakes. I've heard slimy used and that's true of another brand I tried, but definitely not this one. Make sure which product you're actually reviewing.
So delicious but pricey – Really yummy shakes. I find they dissolve the best out of the the meal replacement shakes on the market and have the best texture (thick shake sort of texture). Only negative is that they are very expensive! $60 for 18 shakes
Variety Pack – I do not understand how people can replace 3 meals using this shake. I have now tired each flavour and they are horrible. I tired one with low fat milk and it was still disgusting. I now make my shake with fruit so I can drink it. But about an hour later I am hungry again. Show details
Not bad – Hi I’m currently drinking the vlcd chocolate opti fast shakes and the taste isn’t bad price is fairly expensive at some pharmacies the shakes do fill me up which is good overall this product is pretty good all round for price taste and variety chocolate is definitely my pick Show details
Best flavour of them all – Have tried vanilla choc, caramel coffee and mocha enjoyed best when blended with lots of ice it is like a thick shake. I would recommend listed flavours Show details
