A huge let down from its predecessor – We have had the previous monitor (500) for our eldest for four years now. It is amazing. When we had our second child I wanted the same again but being unable to find it I decided to “upgrade” to the 510. I love the mute function on this version and the vibrate is awesome - much prefer waking to that to crying in the middle of the night. … Read more

However that’s where the positives stop. Battery life is non existent. We can’t take it off the charger ever. But that’s not the most annoying part. The 500 when the power goes off and on again it resets itself. I am blissfully unaware that it’s even happened. With this version it doesn’t reset itself without me having to get up and go into the baby’s room and manually turn it on again. We live in an area where the power goes off quite frequently and to have to get up in the middle of the night walk through my cold house, sneak into the baby’s room quietly to attend to a MONITOR is absolutely ridiculous. Every single time the power goes out it beeps and beeps until we reset it. Why on earth you would not put the same reset function in the newer version I have no idea. Basically in the last six months I have gotten up more to attend to the monitor than to the baby. Not impressed.

Great until the battery died – Loved this monitor for the first 18 months, worked amazingly, sound quality great and the lullabies were really helpful. Then the battery refused to charge. Would leave it sitting on the cradle, would say it was charged but would switch off as soon as you moved it. My husband tried to call a few times and didn't hear back. Fine .. when it worked – Had so much trouble with this monitor. Onto our third unit now. Oricom ... luckily ... are very good with the warranty, but i am sick of paying to post this thing back every time. First unit ... buzzing/squealing noise out of base unit wakes baby, second unit same problem, third unit turns itself off randomly. basically third unit decides to go off duty in the middle of the night. going for refund now.

Annoying – I originally had the sc500. It worked for over 2 years then temp stopped working so contacted Oricom. They sent me out the sc510 because they don't make the sc500 anymore. Anyway after a few months the monitor couldn't hold batteries so they sent some new ones. Then after another few months it still wouldn't hold battery power. The monitor would… Read more

not charge in the cradle unless I moved it around and even then when it would say charging i would take it off and unit would instantly turn off. When I contacted Oricom again, they informed me that I would have to purchase new batteries because my warranty was up (my sc510) was only 6 months old. But because I had received it as a replacement for the sc500 it didn't come with 3 years warranty. When I contacted Oricom and said this is ridiculous they quoted the warranty information in manual saying that repaired parts retain original warranty. However they changed the warranty wording and quoted that replacements retain original warranty (this is NOT what was stated in my warranty booklet). Plus I knew it wasn't a battery issue. On closer inspected of charging dock, one of the pins looks burnt out.... Fantastic for a product 6 months old.

Fantastic monitor – I have used the Oricom for over 2 years and it has worked great. The hand held monitor is extremely durable, I cant stress this enough. Its been accidentally kicked and dropped many times but keeps battling on. The music selection is limited but still quite good compared to others monitors. Being able to turn the music and night light on and… Read more

off remotely is very handy. The range is good, I use this device in a multi level house with no reception issues at all and can go outside to hang out washing etc and can hear everything perfectly.

It has a temperature alarm but whoever set it must live in arctic conditions and you can't set the temp range yourself, so I'm unable to use this feature but it does have the option of turning it off.

The battery in the hand held monitor was useless and wasn't holding its charge after only a few weeks but I replaced it with new rechargeable batteries and it worked fine from then.

Overall this is a reliable and tough monitor and does the job great. Highly recommended and would buy again.

Loved it when it worked... Oricom were awesome with warranty! – We bought this monitor about 18 months ago and have used it everyday. house. We particularly like the room temperature sensor function and I don't share previous reviewers views on its inaccuracy. We had no problems and friends we regularly holiday with who have the S310 often comment that they wish they'd spent extra on the S510.

I called Oricom last Monday and, despite my not being able to find a receipt, it was still covered under their warranty. It's now Saturday and they've sent us a brand new, upgrade Oricom Secure610. Five days since I sent ours back. Nice one, Oricom. Thanks!

If it had worked without a hitch, it'd definitely be a 5 star piece of equipment. Can't fault Oricom's customer service.

Best Customer Support Ever! – We used this product for 2 years and loved its features, particularly the ability to play music to get our baby to sleep. Great until malfunction and oricom won't answer calls or emails – Great unit for the price. My little ones love the projector. Lullabies are definetely better than some of the competition. I like that you can start lullaby from parent unit. That said, unit has been malfunctioning with increasing frequency over the past few weeks and 5 calls and 2 emails to oricom have gone completely unanswered... extremely disappointed.

Doesn't last long – This monitor worked well for about 2 months. After this time it would only last a short time outside the charging unit. The screen also failed after a couple of months of use, although the sound still works. But it is annoying not to be able to tell why the monitor is alarming. just annoying. The button to mute also stopped working so we had to remove it and use something pointy to mute the alarms now.

We have been using the monitor for a little over a year now and it has recently started to turn itself off for no reason.

The one positive is that the sound is good. When the monitor is working you can easily hear the baby and it doesn't pick up interference from outside the room too much.

Never Again – I hate this monitor. After it has been charged the battery runs out way too quick and keeps beeping to tell you it's running out. You push ok, 5 minutes later it beeps again, no wonder the battery runs out even quicker when it does that. It says too warm at 23 degrees and keeps beeping for that too.

Third try with Oricom, second with the 510. All were awful – The sound on these units is very good, the audio is clear, and the range is good... But that's only the case when they actually work. We started with a 610Premium, but that developed a fault (wouldn't switch on) and while we'd had it for nine months, it had only been in use for three so we returned it for a refund and got a 510 as we realised… Read more

we didn't need the twinkly lights and stuff, we mainly just needed to hear the child. The temperature reading was good too, so didn't go for the really basic one.

Well it lasted for about 6 months, then it developed issues; the charge would not last long on the receiver unit, that wasn't a major issue as it was in the base most of the time, but then it had intermittent issues with the mute buttons not working - and when you use the LED flashlight (that's a good feature) that for some reason mutes the unit - I couldn't 'unmute' it without taking the batteries out of the back!

Then in the middle of one night, it just switched off. I woke at 0430 as it seemed 'too'quiet, and noticed it was off. It turned back on again when I pushed the button and I was greeted with wailing from the other end! How long had baby been crying? No idea. We were not happy and while the other issues were annoying, this meant we couldn't trust it, so we took it back, outlined the issues and replaced it with an identical unit. It had the features we wanted, it was a reasonable price so we didn't have a reason to try another. Funnily enough, when we took it back to the store, the store clerk said that WHEN it goes wrong again (I should have taken her words seriously), bring it back and she'd set us up with an AngelCare unit! How prophetic.

So we've had the current 510 for 18 months or so, and the charge is pitiful, (lasts for 25 minutes off the base unit) the LCD display is FUBAR, showing nonsense, so the temperature display is gone and therefore useless, and as we haven't memorised all the menus we can't use any feature other than listen, speak and the light! When seated snugly on the charger base it isn't charging, (I have to balance it at some precarious angle for the light to come on) and every so often it just switches itself off or simply freezes such that there are lights on, but no ones home. No sound from it and even the on/off button doesn't work, I have to remove the batteries for a few seconds for it to reset and restart it.

If it were issues with just one unit, then I would put it down to a bad unit, but all three? That is very unlikely to be coincidence. And likewise if it were just me having these issues I could just be very unlucky, but there are multiple reviews on this site alone, about not just this model only monitor but the Oricom range, that mention the LCD screen problems the unit switching off and the ability to hold a charge declining rapidly to essentially useless. This points to either bad design or poor quality components, or both.

I do not recommend, in fact I actually go as far as to actively dissuade, the use of an Oricom baby monitor to people I see in the store looking at one.

I think I'll be getting an AngelCare like the clerk suggested.

Preferred the oricom secure 300 – I bought this primarily to replace the charge cord on my old Oricom secure 300 model as I just loved it so much. Prior to purchasing this model I got the 210 twin parent unit and it was sooooooooo bad that I returned in for a refund and for the 510 model. I'm losing faith in this brand. It's really dissapoint img considering the secure 300 was such a great product. Also this unit doesn't last long off the charging port. And when you put in on to charge, it just keeps charging all the time. You can take it off fully charged for 2 minutes, then it starts charging again for hours!!!!

Not fit for purpose – Very dissappointed with this baby monitor, after owning it for 6 months it has started to fail after being out of the cradle for about ten minutes, even when it has a full battery. The screen fades out and I can no longer hear the baby, so basically can't go out of earshot of the baby for longer than a few minutes when she is napping unless the… Read more

monitor is in it's cradle. Even before this major fault occured the battery would not last for longer than about 1.5 hours so if for example the baby had a 2 hour nap and I wanted to go and do some gardening, I had to stop what I was doing to return it to charge after 1.5 hours, which was annoying. I have lost the receipt so Oricom will only repair it, but I'm going to have to go out and buy another one anyway as obviously I can't be without a monitor for the time it takes to repair it!

Thermometer completely inaccurate – In my opinion, not worth the extra money up from the basic S310. The thermometer is completely inaccurate and there are only 8 short melodies, which get rather tiresome after only a few days!! should happen after such a short period of time. And neither the on line supplier or Oricom will just send us a new one - they want us to send the old one back first. Well, what are we meant to use to monitor our baby in the mean time......and on top of that we have to pay for the privilege of sending their faulty equipment back to them. So, I have bought a different brand and won't ever buy an Oricom product again. The issues seem to be very similar to what others have experienced - wished I had read these reviews before I bought Oricom. Our previous (and still working perfectly - being used for our other child) is a Philips DECT - outstanding - and their customer service is wonderful. struggling to think of much at all - particular compared to our other monitor which has just been great. significant issues after only 7 months (to the point where we can't use it), when it was working it was bulky, re-set the volume and settings every time your turned it off, takes a few seconds to turn on and off (it isn't instant) which in the middle of the night is just annoying, very easy to accidentally put on mute - not good at all.
