Lumbar Cloud, a mattress that is about double the price of the Hybrid Pro. But I had read a few good reviews about the Hybrid Pro (which I think now were probably paid for by Origin), so decided to still give it a go. The ability to return the mattress within 120 days was the factor that made the risk worth it. I had previously bought a mattress topper from Emma Sleep which hadn't worked for me and returning it was a breeze, so I thought this would be the same.

Oh how wrong I was! I've been trying to return the mattress since the mandatory trial period was up, but am still jumping through the Origin hoops waiting for my refund.

Origin partners with the Salvos, which is supposed to collect returned mattresses and pass them on to people in need. If you've ever tried to donate anything to the Salvos, you'll know how difficult they are to deal with, so this partnership doesn't bode well for Origin customers. I had to call the Salvos to organise the return and was given a date for 4 weeks later, which I wasn't happy about - I'm in Melbourne CBD, not out in the countryside, so there's no excuse for such delays. After messaging Origin, I received a call from the Salvos to organise an earlier date and then another call to say that was a mistake and I had to wait the 4 weeks after all. The next day, I received yet another call from the Salvos telling me (not asking me) that the mattress would be picked up the next day - I was luckily available at the specific pick up time, but didn't appreciate the lack of notice due to the previous calls from them and the messing around.

Origin had made it clear that the mattress needed to be pristine when collected. From our perspective, it was. But the guy who collected it loaded it onto a trolley without protection, so we have no idea what happened to it after it left our home.

With all this, the Salvos haven't bothered to note the pick up on their system, so now I apparently have to wait until that happens, if it actually ever happens.

The whole return process is appalling, with Origin washing its hands and transferring responsibility for returns to the Salvos. Emails to Origin are responded to sporadically, often taking days for a response. There is no phone number to call and no-one will call you. After a mattress is delivered, there is no customer focus at all.

I have lodged a dispute with my credit card company so that Origin can start taking some accountability for its dodgy products, returns process and marketing.

Supportive matress unless sitting on the edge – I did a thorough comparison of different matresses inluding cost, support, size, weight and test period before purchasing. probable delivery dates and with no updates on shipping. The matress is supportive but not very comfortable, I would prefer it softer. It has also retained its shape and firmness but I would expect it to for 3 months, the hope is it will retain it for 10 years. The biggest issue is the edge support, when laying on the edge of the bed it's fine, but if sitting on the edge of the bed it dips that much that you slide off the bed. However, I was aware that this was an issue with matresses in a box and have adapted to sitting further back on the bed. But this may be something that you may want to consider. Also the surface is slippery and sheets do tend to slide about on it. Overall, a firm and supportive matress, that has improved my sleep and hip pain compared to my old sagged matress but a few things that could be better.

I am very happy with this mattress. The order process was simple. The delivery was prompt. The package was easy enough to handle and unpack. Most importantly the mattress is very comfortable and supportive. A good night's sleep! Show details

Best investment I made for myself last year. I never realised how much upgrading my mattress would improve my sleep quality, but I’m so glad I did. I sleep so, so, so much better now.

noticeably. The sides are also very soft, which makes it uncomfortable to sit on the edge of the bed. It really needs a firmer feel and stronger edge support. For the same price, you can find much better quality mattresses from other retailers. I ended up with significant back pain within a month. I returned it and bought the top-rated mattress by Bedbuyer. It costs almost the same yet feels completely different and far superior.

One positive is that Origin honoured their return policy. Salvos collected the mattress, and the refund was issued immediately.

The bed was delivered in a timely manner and was relatively easy to open and set up. A safety razor cutter would be a good addition to provide future clients as cutting away the high-pressure plastic wrapping is difficult and not very safe to do with a knife or scissors. preexisting pain from stress fractures. It was too soft and actually caused my legs to be raised up uncomfortably. I also noticed no 'cool, all night comfort' as they promote, compared to any other mattress I have owned. They also claim reinforced edge support, however I found it to be one of the worst side support mattresses I have owned so their previous model must have been very poor. Anyone over 80 kgs trying to sit on the side edge of the mattress will very likely slide down and forward.

Most importantly, read the Terms and Conditions regarding the 120-day trial and return eligibility very carefully as under their FAQs, Origin states "we will uphold our 120 Day Trial promise as long as the mattress is not extensively damaged and it is returned within 120 Days." I argue that this statement is inaccurate and understates a critical issue, as dot point seven under their Ts & Cs 120-day trial states "If the mattress has been damaged or stained, you will not be granted a return or refund". Further, if there is even a very small mark or stain e.g. the size of a 20 cent piece, the Salvation Army will not accept the mattress. I therefore highly recommend you buy a mattress protector and use it from night one to have the best chance of a refund if needed. You also need to inform Origin once the Salvation Army has collected your mattress to start the refund process. I give Origin credit here as they processed my refund in full within four business days, which is obviously a relief, as being stuck with a bed that cost $1400 and that made my existing lower back pain worse in the mornings would be very stressful! Final tip - if returning the mattress, buy a clear plastic mattress carrying cover online from Amazon for approx. $8 as it's big enough for the mattress to be slid inside relatively easily when upright however, use two people to do this task. Sleep well.

The mattress is extremely firm. I initially liked it, but over time it became uncomfortable, and I ended up having to buy a supportive topper to go on top. The delivery experience was also disappointing, the box arrived damaged, and the company wasn’t great to deal with. Was very confused which mattress to order. Had tried a competitor previously and had to return it. Since trying the origin mattress I couldn’t be more delighted with it. The matress delivery could have been better organised as they gave me 15 minutes notice before delivery and I wasn't home at the time. I purchased the mattress online without any testing, I had always purchased in store before so the free return option helped me decide to purchase it. Now after about 3 months it is providing a great sleep every night. My previous innerspring had more rigid edges and is a noticeable difference when sitting on the bed to put socks on my feet … it has no impact on sleeping though. Super plush and supportive mattress that helps me fall asleep quickly and stay asleep all night - I haven't had any disturbances or woken up with discomfort.
