How do I replace power switch on my ozito ompound saw Jeff

Mick2676

G'day Jeffery, Interesting question, I have a theory and a withering answer. I have noticed mine gets quite warm around the handle/switch area when just sitting there idle waiting for the next cut. This led me to ask why, my answer, resistance causing heat, there is still electrical current being directed to the laser when powered up. This in turn led to the conclusion that the switch may be an achilles heel in this cheap saw. My solution was to turn it off if there was going to be more than 5 minutes between cuts tp preserve the switch. As to replacing the switch, warranty if able, or ask the dealer if parts are available, I doubt it though, look for a second hand one to pilfer bits from, accept they are cheap and buy another one, accept they are cheap and buy a better one. There is a very questionable process whereby you buy another one swap the switches and claim warranty. This does two things 1. It sends a message back up stream to rectify the problem a problem they knew about during product development, and 2. It sends a message to make things more expensive and for retailers to not stock cheaper products, this makes it hard for poorer (like me) DIY'ers to undertake projects which would be a shame.

What is the brand of blade to cut steel and is it available in Adelaide? and the cost please

Jon C

I’m afraid I can’t answer that with knowledge. In the past though I have cut steel with a cutting blade on an angle grinder. Blades are cheap and available on grinder. I have not seen such a blade on a bench saw. But I am just a diy-er. Bunnings may be able to help.

I have just bought this saw and have noticed the blade sounds like it is grinding or rubbing on something as it slows down, its make quite a nasty noise but still cuts well.

Has anyone else had this issue?

It's a noisy machine as it is like all its like. Get used to it. Wear ear protection. Use it till it burns out, then replace it with a better one.

The machine has a blade braking system that stop the blade spinning on after you have completed a cut. The noise is just the braking action at work.

How can I limit or catch the dust? My garage is a mess!

A few people have mentioned the dust issue. I use mine outside if I have a lot of cutting.

Phil

The dust issue is problematic. I have removed the dust bag and inserted the hose from my Ozito Wall Mounted Vacuum & Blower (Model WMV - 1200) and secured it with a couple of wraps of masking tape. This is not 100% effective, but it does limit the dust, especially the air borne dust. The same vacuum makes a quick job of cleaning up the rest of the dust. You could limit how far the dust travels by making a sort of collection cage behind the saw made from cardboard leashed together with masking tape. I've not bothered to do this, but it could be worth the effort if the dust is a big problem.

Three other points...

The Ozito WMV-1200 is a must have in any workshop. It comes with lots of attachments and a great long hose, I use it on all my dust making machines, band saw, disk sander. etc. This uses yards of masking tape because there is no standard outlet on any of my stuff, but it does keep the dust down.

Next. I have used my Ozito Mitre saw a few times now and I have fount it to be accurate straight out of the box, No fiddling was necessary.

Next, Maintainence... Keep those slides clean, wipe them down after use. Jarrah dust especially will cause the slides to rust. And do not be tempted to oil the slides, it just attracts dust to gather on the bearings making for a lumpy, bumpy action.

Phil.
