attempts, this no longer feels like a fair assessment of English ability. Instead, it feels like a repeated testing cycle designed to make candidates pay again and again.
The lack of transparency in scoring, especially for speaking and writing, makes it very hard to trust the results. There is no clear explanation for why one module consistently falls short despite strong performance in the others.
Pearson needs to improve score transparency, consistency, and accountability, because for many test-takers, this experience feels frustrating, expensive, and unfair.

issue was only flagged on the day of the exam, when it was already too late to fix, even though the test centre staff were able to update my name in their system in less than two minutes and confirmed that my profile was then corrected for any future booking (provided I paid the full fee again). Pearson then refused both a refund and a free rebooking.
After this experience, I booked my test with Trinity College instead. Their registration system is much clearer, with separate fields for all required information (including middle name), and their customer support is far more helpful and flexible if you need assistance after booking.
This is a known recurring issue with Pearson based on many similar reports online. Avoid PTE unless you want to risk losing your money over an administrative technicality.
I had to cancel an exam which I booked with Pearson Vue and it has been a nightmare to get my refund. I first initiated this request in July 2025 and still chasing it till today. They have not been able to provide a reference for my refund and always tell me to check with my bank. It has been horrible experience while talking to the support staff or communicating over email. The staff has zero customer service experience.

On the exam day, I arrived with my government issued drivers licence with photo ID and signature. As the direct quote from the above Pearson Vue policy clearly omits any distinction between digital or physical copy. In preparation for my exam I reviewed guidelines in my current state of residence. As directly quoted on the South Australian Government website:
‘Digital passes and licenses displayed in the mySA GOV app are an electronic form of your existing physical license’
In addition to my license, I presented my Medicare card, private health card and two credit cards. Despite complying with the admission policy which was emailed prior to my exam, my valid government-issued photo ID was not accepted upon arrival for my exam. Despite this highly stressful experience, I have kindly requested the exam to be rescheduled.

I had a valid passport from another country and its the same country where I am giving the test and my driver’s licence, yet they refused both. They insisted I needed a renewed passport of the one which was there in my pearson account — which was never made clear at the time of booking.
What’s worse? Pearson’s booking system doesn’t even allow you to update or edit your ID before the test, and there’s no warning or check about document validity when you book. Why accept the booking at all if the ID is “invalid”? That’s a massive failure in system design.
I called Pearson customer service, hoping for help — but was met with rude, dismissive staff. Their tone was like they were scolding me, not helping. No empathy, no support — just rigid policy and zero flexibility.
4 hours long journey leaving kids at home to give the test. After all the pressure and preparation, being treated this way was incredibly disheartening. Pearson needs to fix their system, allow ID updates, and train their staff to talk like actual humans, not robots reading policy scripts.
If you’re an international student or test taker — be careful. Pearson won’t help if there’s a system or ID issue, even if it’s on their end.

in for the test, which was also not allowed. It felt like I was in an interrogation room when they checked all my pockets and were asking if I have brought something with me. I understand it’s protocol, but could be done in a more humane manner. I just recently gave IELTS test as well, the management there was just opposite to this, so calm and composed, gave information thoroughly & even encouraged the test takers to take the water with them inside. It’s a two hours long exam, I think that is the least they could do.
Not to mention, the customer service was even worse, everyone with every deep Indian accent, some were not even understanding English properly & couldn’t give proper instructions. It was extremely frustrating. These people are just here to scam people. The government should not give them any official standing for English test.
I got 90/90 score in each band but I can’t even say that I had 30/90 experience with the PTE customer service and the Bridge street test centre.
Treat the test takers like humans, not terrorists!!

Within the first section (listening/speaking) of the test there were software issues which caused the sound to cut out. They took more than 20min to rectify the issue, by that time I was not able to even attempt the rest of the section as the time had lapsed. I still had to sit there and complete the rest of the test. They said that resetting the timer would 'take a very long time' so I just had to raise a case and wait for them to investigate. My results came back and I had failed the whole section which covered those 2 domains.
The results were sent to immigration authorities despite my test still 'being under investigation', and despite me reaching out to their customer service immediately to inform them not to release the result until the issue had been dealt with. They said they were unable to do anything about that and I just had to wait until the investigation was complete.
Initially was told that the investigation would take 3-5 days, however, when I followed up on day 6, I was informed that 'they could not commit to a specific timeframe' and that I should just wait until the investigation was complete.
Eventually, the investigation found that there had been a technical issue and I was offered to retake the test. However they refused to compensate my travel expenses and I had to make additional time in my schedule and go through the whole process of booking the test and going to the test centre, and sitting through a 3h test again, even though this whole issue was not my fault. When asked what would happen if I were to encounter a similar issue again, they just said that 'it won't happen again, this technical issue is rare'.
Legal company putting a policy to scam people – This is a scam company that tries to find legal ways to scam people out of their money. They will find different ways to not let you sit for a test and not refund the money in the name of policy. SCAMMERS!!!!

dont pay them a cent, you'll loose it – It is a scam, having to send through complaints now. I made the mistake of booking through them. they said I ddnt add the middle inital on my name so I would loose the money and forfit. Its a money making scam not helpful to anyone. AVIOD!!
This company is a joke – The company is a joke. The call centre staff don’t speak English, they have no idea about what they’re doing. They let you pay, take the exam but they won’t give you your results because you have a duplicate account. Such a scam

Bad experience – Out of pocket $450 due to middle name issue. No refund or rescheduling offered. Reading the reviews now, it is so common, crazy that they haven't address this problem considering how widespread it is. Will escalate.

Terrible - Do not buy preparation material or Test here – Do not buy anything here, the service is terrible, if you buy any learning product, they don't send you the codes, and you have to chase for your product by email. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING HERE!!!

the application prior 2 weeks. Why was this not picked up. My client was advised she will need to pay again $410. I tried calling their customer service line, which is an overseas based call centre, the CCS could not speak English. I have emailed no response. Stay away from these shammers.

CAREFUL. DON'T TAKE ONLINE EXAM WITH THEM. ITS EASIER TO TRAVEL TO ANTARCTICA AND TAKE THE EXAM THERE – If I can put zero starts I would've done that. It eas my worse exam experience ever. I waited for my exam to start more than one hour and the Proctor joined to do the checks to let me join and then disconnected and they put me back on top of the queue with 44 ppl ahead of me. I assume the only party that gets benefits from this is the State that collects the money for unfair examination to make it more costly for people to pass this test.

five business days before the test can be rescheduled. It is very difficult to understand why Microsoft has chosen Pearson Vue for their test service provider. I will never take another test (Microsoft or otherwise) managed by Pearson Vue.

me to wait until they finish assessing other’s registration and had to wait for another 15 minutes. At the end, they created a case number for me and they didn’t help at all, except for asking me to call the customer service. They said the the customer service able to re-schedule my exam. SURPRISINGLY, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS HELPLESS. The only thing that they can do is just to update my middle name, which gonna take a while. Asked them about what’s the next procedure and what do i need to do. Very dissapointed when they told me that the only thing i can do is re-schedule and i’m required to pay another AUD $410 again. This is just a naming issue, which i believe that they should be able to easily change and give me another chance to re-schedule my exam without any charge. I explained the situation that i hadn’t even started the exam and this is not the case when someone cheated or didn’t appear on the exam day. Bottom line, really dissatisfied with the company. The customer service didn’t help that much, and can’t even help in this case. Would rather choose other provider for english test.
Pathetic bureaucratic practice that steals money – A money making scheme that thinks it’s helping visa applicants, struggling already with visa payments and medical and yet they steal your money just because of a policy that should be user friendly and not milking money out of struggling students and visa holders. You should change the turn around time of your customer service as well! Very pathetic!
Absolutely crap!!! – Wish I could give it a 0 They dont know what they are doing. Their website is crap. The online support is full of clowns and takes ages to get hold of someone. Online exam app is absolute garbage.
