Pope True Blue

These hoses don't last the distance, so keep your receipts and take them back, as they seem to fail well within the warranty period. Once they go hard, they quickly split if you try to roll them up tight a few times. My biggest problem was Bunnings Mudgee, where the staff at the service desk didn't seem to know about the warranty returns policy.… Read more
They said I would have to organize a replacement through Pope, who said "no" when I phoned them, "Bunnings have to replace it and we fix them up."
I then phoned a manager at Bunnings, who apologized and said "bring it back and we will change it"
I have purchased expensive hoses which have also failed prematurely, but are usually less prone to kinking. I have purchased a few True Blues and none have lasted the distance. So keep your receipts.
Poor quality – It was ok through the summer. But then, less than six months later, in the cooler weather, it started hardening, stiffning, braking, ballooning, leaking... Unless you live up north (Australia) do not buy it. Show details
Fittings are rubbish – How hard is it to make fitting that actually work? Honestly I would rather go back to the days when hoses screwed on. And how dare you claim this product has an 8 year warranty! I try not to buy cheap junk, and hence was happy to pay a premium for a product that claims a 8 year warranty. Big mistake. The hose IS about 20 months old, but this is… Read more
the first time I have tried to use the fittings under pressure, and they just don't work, Had not handle even a mild pressure or tug.
What are the chances Pope will actually honour their warranty?
Rubbish hose threw away when only used once due to toxic smell and taste – Rubbish due to toxic smell . A worry how it’s made in China and giving it a Australian name .
Got 5 years out of it – As stated by others it can kink easily and chemical smell is not good. Now is unusable in cool weather because it's gone hard and won't flex. Calling a hose made in China true blue is a disgrace!!! Have replaced with decent hose MADE IN AUSTRALIA that didn't cost much extra and at least has good reviews. Show details
Mister Stinky – This was bought as a general purpose watering hose, and I think I paid about $20 or so at the great 'Barn'. The chemical smell was intolerable. Before watering plants, I would have to flush the line onto the ground for a minute, and then that area would stink. it was given about nine months to abate, but it really never improved. Since there was… Read more
no way I'd use it near anything that might become food, that spelled the end for it. I ended up giving it away on a freebie website, with the suggestion it only be used to hose down cars or children.
Kinking was pretty rotten in my opinion.
Kinky mess – I purchased my Pope True Blue from Bunnings, spending a little more on a product expecting the hose to be of a higher standard. This hose is by far the worst hose i have ever bought. The hose has a massive problem with kinking regardless of how much care you put into property storing the hose when not in use. I recommend this product be recalled.
I Knew What I Was Getting Into – I have tried the super expensive brands before, with a 10 year guarantee, which cost over $100 and have learned that these hoses are just not worth the money, nor is the guarantee worth the paper it is written on. I generally now buy the (almost) bottom of the range variants, knowing that they will only last 2 years at best, but when the… Read more
inevitably perish / crack / burst, I just go back to Bunnings and drop another $20 on a cheap and crappy hose.
I now know what to expect, and won't be caught out again buying the top of the range, kink proof, UV stabilized, 10 year guaranteed, >$ 100 hose.
Keep your receipts for the inevitable return – I have bought a number of Pope Blue hoses, both 15 metre and 30 metre, over the years. They last about 2 to 4 years before splitting. The hoses seem to fail with fine, then course, holes. And on two occasions I have noticed what appears to be delamination of the hose walls. I am not out of pocket because I have always kept my receipts stapled… Read more
to the guarantee portion of the product label. Bunnings have always been happy to replace the hoses with same or similar products. I assume Pope covers the refund, and relies upon purchasers not bothering, or not having retained proof of purchase. There is clearly a defective product which should be taken out of production.
Problems with kinking – The hose in a reel and kinks continuously on rewind and bring out. The hose also flattens when not under pressure making kinking worse. Exactly the opposite of the advertising. Show details
True Blue Rubbish – Bought 2 of these from Bunnings warehouse. I thought being on the dearer side they would at least last for a while. The non break fitting broke off the first hose within a couple of months. The second hose split open while using it with a trigger nozzle for the 3rd time today. I had to cut the fitted end off it to be able to use it. It keeps… Read more
getting shorter every time I use it now.
I kept the backing card but with no receipt Bunnings won't accept the return for warranty.
There should be a recall on these. Very un-Australian to call a dodgy product "True blue"

Made to Kink – Despite this as advertised as having a low kink rating, no matter how careful I am, this hose tries its best to kink, and once kinked it is impossible to remove. I feel this is a poorly made hose and a waste of money. Do yourself a favour and spend some more dollars on a premium Gardenia hose. Show details
Handles High Pressure with Few Kinks – This hose works well under high pressure. I believe this may be the key to a kink-free hose in general, and perhaps the testing simulations the manufacturers use are under a higher pressure than those available in Australian gardens. Our water pressure fluctuates between 85-110 Psi, and has done for the last 5 years that we have owned this hose. … Read more · 1
The hose has gradually softened over time, and wouldn't work at all in a hose reel because it can land up almost flat with little to no water in.
Durability is excellent, we give ours a hard time and it's still blemish free. The main exception is the metal clamps! Ours have rusted or corroded and I fear may give way in the near future.
Links began to occur after the fourth year of use every 1-2 days in summer and 3-6 in winter. The hose itself spent the first three years under full pressure for almost every day of the year and never blistered the way Holman did (Holman lasted 3 hours).
This hose never claimed to be highly kink resistant, but it remains kink resistant in a high pressure environment. I'll probably buy a slightly stronger walled Pope to go out the front of our property, and hope that it is even more suited to our future needs.

I doubt there are worse hoses out there! – We bought two of these hoses from Bunning two weeks ago. They are absolute rubbish. Both have splits occurring in the outer casing and they are frustrating to use as they perpetually kink as you try to use them. We'll see what happens when we try to return them. Show details
This is rubbish and I can certainly live without it – I think the 8 years warranty actually means we don't expect it to last 8 years. Kinks without any effort on my part and splits regularly. I would love to find my receipt and return it to Bunnings for a refund but unfortunately it has disappeared. I think Pope should re-evaluate their testing procedures and improve them. All i can say is " what a… Read more

Excellent, Flexible, Durable – I purchased the Pope True Blue 12mm x 30m hose over three years ago from Bunnings in Adelaide and have been recommending and suggesting to a friend to buy one as she needs to replace her ageing hose. I guess I must be the luckiest person ever to have bought one of these, looking at the reviews. I admit it had a strong PVC smell at first but this… Read more
dissipated after quite a while. When pressurised I have had very few problems with kinking, better than any hose I have fought with for over 40 years of gardening. It has after all a 4/10 kink resistance rating. There are other hoses with higher ratings, but then pay much extra. My hose remains permanently outside in the sun and weather and sometimes I have forgotten to turn off the tap for many days. I have seen no deterioration nor leaking at all. I can pull this hose all the way from my back tap out to the front street kurb with ease, and it is not fitted on a reel or holder of any kind. I always leave it laying in a figure 8 pattern on the ground. I thoroughly recommend this hose.
Concerns about strong chemical smell – I bought this hose in good faith that it would be much better than my much cheaper hose, but it kinks just as much. However, I am very concerned about the strong chemical smell when watering! I refuse to use it to fill the pond, bird bath and dog water bowls as I don't know if it is toxic. Has this product been chemically tested for toxicity? If… Read more
not it should be! My concern is if it like other products, it is made in China where there are many reports of use of banned chemicals, such as formaldehyde! PLEASE get this tested!

NEVER buy this product – Purchased 2 about 6 months ago. Multiple leaks n splits in both. They perish in the sun. I don't know where you get an 8 year guarantee from. They don't even last 8 months. Show details

Is this a hose, or a does it smell like toes? – This product is a disgrace. As soon as I opened it, the smell hit me. Ants came crawling out, and possum poo stuck to the insides. Even after two weeks I haven't gotten rid of the smell! Went straight in the bin and I paid $80 for it!! The worst purchase I have ever made. I am a mother of 3 and I would never recommend this product if my life depended on it. Show details

More Kinks than Water – I purchased this 4 out of 10 kink rated hose, which had a primium price, because my old hose kinked. I used this hose twice, and it kinked at several locations each time. It was intolerable. I took it back to Bunnings and got my old hose out of the bin. This was the worst hose I have ever used. As I explained to the return counter; it… Read more
embarrasses me to return an item, but it should embarrass Bunnings more, having sold such an inferior product.
I asked the lady at returns to convey my concerns to Management (hope she did !).
Kinks and stinks – Payed a bit more for a hose that supposedly doesn't kink easily. Yep, I got sucked in by the spiel on the packaging. The worst hose for kinking i have ever used, as others have written, leaving it out in the sun does nothing to improve it. Also very disturbing is the smell emitted from the hose, I am not game to drink out of it and i even fill the… Read more

Wish I had my receipt as it would be going back to Bunnings if I did.
This hose kinks and is toxic – The kink rating on this hose is totally misleading as it kinks ever minute and it produces the most terrrible chemical smell and taste and I cant help but think I am poisoning everything when i use it. I am reluctant to use ot to fill up my ponds. I have never experienced such a horrendous smell that just wont go away. So the the per performance regarding kinking and the toxic smell make me want to return this hose to bunnings. Show details

Terrible hose links everywhere – I agree I spent extra hoping I was buying a good quality hose it kinks everywhere. I will be taking this one back to Bunnings. Really not good quality. Very disappointed I thought I was buying a good brand but I was wrong. Would not recommend this product to anyone. Show details
Rubbish – complete waste of money. Cannot roll this hose up without it twisting into a complete mess, every time, guaranteed !, and no leaving it in the sun doesnt help and neither does giving it a tirade of expletives while my blood pressure goes through the roof. As for the kink rating, the marketers must have quite a laugh, when we part with extra cash… Read more
in the hope of purchasing a superior product, what a joke!
PS. dont go near there hose reels either, purchased five for two new houses, they have had minimal use and roughly 2 out of 5 are still functioning correctly, but maybe in todays climate of shops full of cheap junk that's considered acceptable.
True Blue Kinky Hose – This hose continually kinks and restricts flow at least 3 places when you move it. I have straightened it out many times and carefully coiled it up loosely to minimize kink but it just wants to kink up. The only solution is to leave it stretched out and don’t move it too much when using it (hardly a good option). The bin for this one! It should be marketed as the "Kink-O-Matic" or "sure Kink" Show details
And they still continue to make and sell this rubbish.
Designed to kink – Worse hose in the world turned me off all Pope products. They should try them at their homes before selling. It's truly amazing how it manages to kink under any condition. Now I'm worried about what chemicals it may be leaching as they seem to have put no thought into the product. Show details

What a piece of rubbish – Do not buy this hose. Complete false advertising by Pope. I can't believe Bunnings sells this garbage. Its meant to be kink free. I unravelled it and low behold there was so many kinks to begin with. Nothing is worst than trying to water your garden and all you get is kinks. Show details

Bunnings True Blue Pope Hoses – I have a large garden and purchased two of these hoses. The first one started springing leaks around 9 months after purchase and the second one started to split 20 months after purchase. In addition, they are the worst hoses for kinking that I have used, being particularly kink prone after lying in the sun for a short period. I would rate them as poor at half the price. I consider Pope build to a price, not quality.. Show details

True Blue NOT! – This was highly recommended by staff at Bunnings. It is awful, it kinks regardless of careful winding etc. I connected it to my Karcher and it leaked everywhere. It supposedly has an 8-year guarantee, good luck with getting a refund! I even laid it out in the warm sun so I could wind it up carefully, that didn't work. I tried everything I could think of to help with the kinking, nothing worked. Don't waste your money! Show details

Pope True Blue – I think the blue refers to the language one uses everytime one has to un-kink this so-called kink proof hose. Every time I use it it kinks in the same four places which means that over an hour's watering I grapple with it dozens of times. I am amazed no has taken the company to court over what is basically a fraud Show details

A terrible product – The worst hose I've ever bought. Left it on all day and the pressure blew holes in the plastic in about 6 different places, with water squirting everywhere. Pope have an eight year warranty on the hose - this should be against the law. An absolutely appalling product, Bunnings should recall them all - but unfortunately they were still selling them when I returned mine. Show details
Do not buy this product – Waste of money! Spent more time unkinking the hose then actually watering my garden Do not waste your time or money on this product!! Whatever testing condition they put the hose under to come with a 4 kink resistant rating was not a realaistic test I cant say how much of a waste of money this product is Will not be buying from pope again as they clearly cant be trusted to produce high quality products Show details
Absolutely Pathetic Hose – Really love it how you walk into Bunnings, ask specifically for a hose that doesn't kink and the sales person points you at this product. I've got a feeling that most people buying hoses won't check review sites before making a purchase but if you're reading this, don't buy this hose. It will kink more than any hose you've ever used before.… Read more
Pathetic, cheaply made hose, which for the price sucked me right in. See ya later pope, lost a customer here.
Keeps splitting – Thought I would finally buy a brand name hose instead of the generic cheap 18m that finally gave up after 7 years of use. During the first summer it started to bulge in several places and eventually split not far from the fitting. Cut it and replaced the fitting and within a couple of months more bulges and more splits.
