Why has the Packaging changed? – Some years back I gave a glowing Review of this Product. Some months back, instead of the 'Shaker Pack', I could only purchase it now sold in a bag. I used it and was happy, and ended up with about half left. I taped up the bag. Yesterday I gently shook it from the bag to use and was enveloped in a fine 'dust' which settled on everything in my… Read more
Loungeroom! It had also gone dry. Why change the Packaging? It still cleaned the Carpet, but it will now take days to clean a lot of furniture, plus hundreds of China 'Collectables! I will NOT purchase again!
Fantastic when used as a carpet stain remover – I used to use a product called Karpet, which was really effective on stains. After it was discontinued, I used all sort of methods to try to remove stains from the carpet and nothing came close....until now. I use this product as a spot stain remover and it has removed every stain I have tried it on, old and new. It sometimes takes a few applications on stubborn stains but they always come out eventually. Show details
Exactly what I needed – I moved into an old rental that needed more cleaning. Previous tenants had had a cat. And there was a smell. Probably as much ‘old weatherboard and old carpet’ as well as cat smell. Initially I tried bicarb as it’s one of my go to’s. In the meantime I washed the walls and cupboards in borax but But the carpet still had an old smell. Anyway Preen… Read more
Vanish powder was my second attempt. I used my out door broom to brush it in.
Anyway! Wow! It pulled up so much cat hair and lint and dust.
The product does have a strong ‘perfume’. I just kept windows open through the day. But it does at it says Re neutralising smells and lifting pet hair and dust etc from the carpet. My house no longer smells.
Picture below is from one of the rooms and what the preen pulled up (I had already tried bicarb and hadn’t had much luck). I don’t believe previous tenants had the floor steam cleaned despite what the realestate told me.

Super Handy – I can't find this product in the supermarkets anymore which is devastating. I shampoo my carpets once a year but have always kept this on hand as I have a lot of pets and the damp powder is perfect if someone has an accident on the carpet. I can literally dump an old towel on to soak up most of the moisture get this stuff straight on there and it… Read more
will soak up anything else. I usually leave till the next day and there is no stain and no urine smell. Some reviews mentioned chemical smell but I think it is a nice clean smell. I also have a dark rug with white accents and this is the only product that gets it bright again. Don't think I'd bother doing the whole carpet with it but perfect for any wet stains so you're not adding anymore wetness like most other products
Definitely works! – I just used this on my carpet and I can’t believe how much better it looks. I’ve saved money on hiring a carpet cleaner, which has certainly made me happy!
A carpet cleaner that works on grease – I walked black grease onto my light grey carpet and thought I would be paying for a commercial carpet cleaning company to come and remove the grease. I tried this product first and Chas doubt in it working and to my surprise it worked in removing the grease.
Negative reviews
Terrible - made the carpet worse – Tried it after a spill on the carpet and now the stain is still there with white staining from the powder all around it. Makes it look even worse than before the stain.
I wish I could give it negative ratings – This product is an absolute disgrace it's has bleached and left white stains all over my carpet. Don't even bother trying to contact customer services they'll ignore you for the most part and then when they're sick of receiving emails of photographic evidence of the damage their product has done, they won't take any accountability and tell you tough crap. Never buy this product unless you want to destroy your carpet or break your Hoover. Show details
Left white patches on my carpet – Left white patches on my carpet and didn't clean my carpet at all. People put their trust in brands like Vanish. They should not be selling such a shoddy product. Show details

Leaves White marks – My carpet cleaning person told me not to use this and I wished I had listened to him. It left white bleach like marks all over my carpet and made my carpet stiff and uncomfortable to work on.
Its an absolute waste of money – I bought 3 cans of your carpet cleaner from woollies at $14 a can After vigorous shaking each can sprayed like a mist.....absolutely a waste of money....hardly any foam I would never recommend this product....i used it years ago (fantastic) but now whatever you have done to the product is a complete disgrace.....prove me wrong if you think i am....send someone out, buy a can of your product from the supermarket shelf and clean my carpet Show details
Preen carpet stain remover literally ate my carpet – It came out brown liquid and ate the carpet. Didnt notice a use by date. There should be a warning if it is to be kept for a certain period. Even so you wouldnt expect it o eat aeay the carpet where sprayed. Show details
my room smells like a chemical plant – i think this product did lift dirt out of my white carpet. i used it on one room to start with and compared to the room next to it i think the carpet is brighter. but the chemical smell is strong! i've left all the windows opened and vacuumed it three times with my dyson and scattered bicarb soda and vacuumed again to try and remove any residual… Read more
product but now my room smells like oven cleaner and gives me a headache. i am worried about my cat coming in to contact with it now and would be even more worried if i had kids playing on the carpet. would not recommend if you a) have animals, b) have kids, or c) want to continue living in your home. god it smells bad.

Great product – Have been using it for years. I have a great tip to make it more economical and work more efficiently. Drop the product into a wire mesh strainer. Gently shake it, spreading over no more than one square meter. This produces a very fine powdery looking product. No need to break up the large lumps produced when shaking the stuff out of the… Read more
container. Much better penetration. Use a stiff brush from different directions, finally against the nap of the carpet to make it stand up. Let it dry etc etc
Softens Clean and Freshens – We have rugs, some purchased in Turkey and I have been looking for a product to clean and brighten them. This product warns about use on antiques and oriental rugs, so I tried a small patch on the back, and they remained colour-fast. I have a Shark vacuum which handled the task magnificently - this powder is coarse and not a problem for the… Read more · 1
Shark. After getting a quote for almost $2,000 to professionally clean the rugs, I thought it was worth a shot. It can do everything the manufacturer advertises it will do, and even more. I plan for it to be a regular part of our household cleaning regime.
Its okkkkk – I find this product ok. It did clean out my stain as i put the powder on and brushed it in and left it for 3 hours tops. But when i did vacuum it. It really made it hard as my filter was getting block (probably cause my vacuum sucks) it made me change my filter at 4 times to remove the powder off carpets but it was really good. If you're having… Read more
issues with the colour bleach your carpet i added baking powder with i don't know why but it work well.
Horrible – This carpet cleaner has NEVER worked. It has never once gotten a stain out of my carpet. If anything, it has made my carpet worse and smell bad. Don't buy this product.
Blew up my Dyson – Terrible product. No warnings on what it would do to my Dyson!!!! What i did manage to clean was no better. Don't waste your money or time on this expensive product.
Terrible & headachy – TERRIBLE: Did not clean and the strong toxic after smell is hanging around days and days after giving me a headache. I wouldn't use it again if you paid me.
Waste of money – Didn't work at all. Wasted my money. If I had of put an extra $20 to the cost of this crap I could of hired a carpet cleaning machine..... Not happy at all.
Rejuvenated my carpet – My rental home carpet, pale grey, even after professional cleaning looked 'grubby'. Have been using Preen powder for large areas now every few months, and the carpet is cleaner, and even feels softer under foot. It has definately made a difference, however, be wary as the fine powder has a tendency to 'clog' some vacuum cleaners. Cannot use my… Read more
bagless vac as it became blocked within seconds and it was problematic trying to clean it thoroughly. I use an old Hoover, with bag, without any problems and as the powder is so fine I recommend emptying vac bag straight into garbage bin outside.

Worked perfectly for me! – Powerpowder did a great job on my cotton rug that was looking dull, dusty and dirty. It binds to the dust and gross stuff in the rug, which comes to the surface as you rub the product in with a brush. Then when it's dry, you vacuum the powder and the dirt off. I used a bagless vacuum and I had to empty the container once throughout the process… Read more
(2.7m x 2m rug). I think the other reviewers might be using a different product or not following the instructions. This is a POWDER. It's not for spot cleaning! It's for cleaning large areas that are looking dirty. I also wasn't offended by the smell. It smelled fresh as I was rubbing it in, and once it dried it left no smell.

Not worth buying – The only Preen carpet product that ever seemed to work was the spray that came in a pump-action bottle. That seems to have been discontinued in the past month or so, unfortunately. It's a shame when a product that works gets replaced with something that does nothing at all (the foam). I've not found the product in the picture here useful either -… Read more
it really doesn't work so I took it back to the supermarket for a refund and I won't bother trying any Preen products again. (Just in case it's useful info, I have cats who keep vomiting on the carpet and this product didn't clean up their mess at all.)
Don't waste your money!!! – Tried the powerpowder on my carpet and it ruined my carpet!! Looks to have just spread the stain rather than eliminate it!! Very annoyed!! Followed every step as per instructions, now have an even bigger mess on my carpet. Hoping rug doctor works better! Don't waste your money!!!
Useless and dangerous! – I used it on a large rug and followed the instructions very carefully. The powder did not clean the rug at all. It also totally clogged my hand-held Dyson Vacuum cleaner and threw up a cloud of tiny particles into the air. I am an asthmatic and it gave me asthma. After vacuuming several times it still leaves white dust over the furniture. When… Read more
emptying the vacuum cleaner into a garbage bag I had to wear a disposable mask over my nose and mouth, but the fine white dust particles still got into my eyes. I can't believe such a useless dangerous product is allowed to be sold!
Terrible – Doesn't clean the carpet and the vacuum's filter needs to be cleaned after using on a 3 m2 area. Spots and dirt remained. Don't waste your money. Buy something else instead!
Ruined my carpet! – I followed the instructions carefully for using the Preen powder. When vacuuming the powder kept blocking my brand new Dyson. After I had finished my carpet looked 100 times worse. White discolored patches all over it that I cannot get rid of it. Please do not waste your money. One container of Preen will end up costing me hundreds as my carpet will need to be replaced.
Rip off – Followed instructions to the letter....should be taken off the market.. Not worth trying save your money cannot and will not recommend this product to anyone..how do I get my money backwards???
vanish? yeah right! – Terrible waste of time and money. Didnt do anything apart form spread the stain into a larger grouping on my carpet. thought it needed more elbow grease so I scrubbed for what must have been 40 minutes. Only slightly faded the stain.
Love it- Powder only! – Hi- there are a few reviewers talking about a 'foam' or 'spray' - might be a different product because the Preen for carpets is a white fluffy powder in a very large container that is sprinkled on and then scrubbed in with a dry brush. I think that is really sad and unfair that the wrong product is reviewed poorly. I have found this powder to be… Read more
frikkin fantastic, by far the most effective. Heavy dog stains are gone instantly and its a really wonderful, although quite expensive option. I'll never dry clean again- only spot clean using this. Love it!!
Wish I read the reviews first - false advertising – This doesn't seem to work at all. Have an ivory coloured rug and a brown coloured dog. Followed all the instructions; sprayed, scrubbed in, let dry and vacuumed with a Dyson. It doesn't look any different. The smell at first was nice but after a while it's over powering. Don't have to worry about the dog getting it dirty anymore she's not keen to lie on it.
Terrible – Didn't remove a single stain and I followed instructions to a t. Just an expensive carpet deodisier. Made my rug worse. Powder kept blocking my vacuum. Extremely Disappointing for the amount of money you have to spend. Baking powder is a lot cheaper and worked heaps better.
Awful! – Yes, I agree. I followed directions carefully but near new carpet now has dark marks that look just as you described. Have your boys and their friends been over our way this week?
Potentially Unsafe Air Pollutant – Vacuumed Persian rug then applied spray. During wait, emptied out see through chamber on high powered Bosch vac. After drying time, vacuumed product. Noticed there was nothing in chamber after vacuuming twice. Rug stank. Cat wouldn't go near it. House member got headache & nausea. Took rug out to washline and hosed with nozzle on jet setting. Then… Read more
rug started to foam up. Then used a brush as well and even more suds came out. This product leaves substantial residue in rug!!! What about babies? Back to the vac > 2 days later vac was used in one end of the house by another house member. From the other end, I could smell the Vanish product. Stopped vac, turned on again and a misty puff of white powder shot out of air outlet!!! Took out Hepa filter and it was clogged with the Vanish product! That's why there was no product in catch chamber - the dry detergent had bypassed the chamber, through the Hep filter and went back into the air in a fine mist. Essentially, the product became indoor air pollutant as well. What if you were asthmatic? Government needs to test & regulate this kind of quack product more thoroughly for the Australian public.
Worthless product – I have just used the product. Vanish Preen powerfoam clean and fresh. i used it as per instructions. my carpet now looks like my sons million friends have walked up the stairs with their shoes on. Thank You Vanish. For your false advertising.
