We are providing a full update on our experience with Preference Floors. We initially had hybrid planks installed in September 2023 by a different contractor that buckled severely within months, likely due to inadequate subfloor prep and moisture barrier issues. We are extremely grateful for the intervention of Shaun (State Manager at Preference… Read more · 2
Floors QLD). Shaun's professionalism and mediation were exceptional. He took full ownership of the situation, organized a joint site inspection, and confirmed the full repair and replacement would be covered under warranty (at no cost to us).
Shaun then recommended Chase from The Flooring Pros Brisbane to handle the corrective installation. Chase was outstanding—he was open, communicative, visited multiple times to run detailed moisture tests, and clearly worked hard to ensure the job was done properly.
The final result is fantastic, and we are very happy with the quality of the new floor. While having to move everything out for a week was inconvenient, we are relieved and impressed that Shaun and Chase partnered to deliver a high-quality solution. We thank Shaun for his commitment to customer satisfaction and Chase for his expert installation.

Terrible customer experience – Ordered some extra floorboards, then realised I have ordered too many. Tried to adjust the order down, and I was charged over $300 restocking fee. I hadn’t received them yet. If I hadn’t already started laying, I would have cancelled the lot - I called them directly to see if they could help with this exorbitant charge. Tried to explain to their… Read more
team that I wasn’t a business but just a person trying to finish my floors, I also explained that I had been a victim to a scam company during my renovation who took off with a lot of my money and I was delayed over 2 years and losing more money really hurts. Their staff were so rude to me, completely unsympathetic and they hung up the phone on me. I asked to speak to a manager or someone higher and they refused. Shame on you and your staff at Preference floors. I would never use you again and would never recommend a company that has so little regard for its customers. You stole my money and it was completely unreasonable.

Poor quality floors and customer service – I've been experiencing two major issues with the Easy Plank Hybrid flooring. It scratches easily and also causes holes in my kids' clothing due to friction. I'm very disappointed because this product was marketed as premium and scratch-resistant. Scratch resistance was the most important quality for us, especially with young kids in the house.… Read more
Even plastic toys are scratching the floor. It's important to note that we take care of the floors and adhere to the manufacturer's prescribed cleaning guidelines. I've tried to address this issue with the store where I purchased it and also with Preference Floors, but both businesses have ignored my phone calls and emails, rendering the warranty offered, useless.

Absolute rubbish! [Content Removed] artists – I’m annoyed I have to give 1 star. bought iconic hybrid onyx 7.5mm thickness for my home after our tenants trashed our home. Imagine ripping up animal infested premium carpet to putting down absolute rubbish floorboards that scratch when you breathe and you paid with a kidney for it. I should have known when the demo had scratches everywhere on… Read more
it. These floor boards have to be the cheapest softest material I’ve ever come across. Your nail will put a deep scratch in them and all the scratches are white and noticeable. Within 2 days we had some deep and noticeable white scratches from doing absolutely nothing. Our vacuum cleaner head that had no debris underneath left a deep scratch that was a metre long. We moved a cardboard box again with no debris underneath it and it scratched deep. We have been baffled as to how a company can have the audacity to even sell this rubbish. We got the supplier out straight away and he basically made every excuse under the sun and said it looked like a bad batch and that his boss would only replace the damaged planks. I said thy if its a bad batch then the whole flooring would need replacing. He was also was shocked at the damage and said it didn’t look right, and he would get back to me within the week. 4 weeks later I just got an email from the installer forwarding the suppliers email to me saying it’s not covered under the 20 year warranty and he did all these tests and nothing was wrong. So what is covered then? I’m worried for them if this isn’t a bad batch. They’ll have complaints everywhere. Apparently this is a new product, clearly didn’t pass the quality tests. This is how they [Content Removed] you! Offering rubbish 20 year warranty that doesn’t cover anything. We have resulted in telling our children not to play, breathe, or move on our new rubbish floor boards in fear of scratching them. We have stopped living as a result and this will now be going to the department of fair trading for their lack of liability and responsibility. If you want a good floor board, this is definitely not it! Soft and rubbish but expensive and looks good (before you have white deep scratches everywhere ) company is horrible to deal with and won’t take responsibility and refuse liability. These are meant to be scratch resistant and should be taken off the market. Ripping off the consumer and providing rubbish as a product.

Poor consistency – We purchased the Sauvignon Engineered Timber floors. We really liked how thick and sturdy they were, and the colour of the samples in the showroom. But we’re very disappointed in the colour variation of the final product. Also seemed to scratch very easily - many boards got scratched just from getting them out of the box. See photos of the display vs what we recieved and the scratches. Show details

Bad product, terrible service – We had the spotted gum engineered floors installed in our new home and within 9 months they were badly damaged from sunlight. I tried to get help from Preference floors but was dismissed. I installed external blinds to shield the floors from the sun but now a year later the floors are so badly sun damaged and bleached they need replacing or… Read more
sanding. Preference Floors looked at the floors agreed, there was a problem, but then tried to blame it on the gentle wood cleaner I was using. I got independent professional advice and was told it was the fault of the coating on the boards not any cleaning products. Preference floors have absolved themselves of any responsibility despite the 25 year warranty. Do not use these guys. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Beware - poor quality Preference Floors – BEWARE - TAITS FLOORING, [Name Removed] had supplied and installed (through their "recommended" installer - Rok (Rokn P/L t/as Endless Timber Design) the "PREFERENCE" Jarrah 3mm engineered floorboards (completely defective). I noticed as their installer, Rok, was laying one of the floorboards that there was a ripple at the lock-in system and I… Read more
had commented to him 'is that ripple normal???', he responded with 'I'm not forcing it...' - all I could do was put our faith in him doing the right thing by us (obviously he did not). After paying him $15,600 on the day he completed the supply and installation on 29 Jan 2021, he left the floor dirty with glue marks everywhere. Now wonder whether that was deliberate to hind the floor's defects. Immediately, we could see signs of rippling and within a week, the rippling was throughout the entire floor and each day new defects develop so now we hv the floorboards lifting at the edges, look uneven due to the lifting and rippling - approx 80sqm of the floorboards that he laid (he ordered 86.9sqm unfortunately).
Taits Flooring, [Name Removed] - you are responsible for this. We have written to you patiently for well over a month and received NO resolution. We have provided 2 options to you in good faith, in our Email of Demand dated 11 Feb 2021, to resolve this issue and to date you have not resolved this issue at all. Instead you have sent out an inspector 2 weeks ago who took moisture metre readings who said he had never seen this happen so quickly before. Taits failed to tell us that there had previously been issues with engineered flooring seeing they specialise in this area by selling it - so also misled us which is a complete breach of Australian Consumer Laws (they are in breach of a number of Sections).
All I can say to anyone considering engineered or floating floorboards, stay away from the "Preference" brand. It really is JUNK. We hope TAITS FLOORING, [Name Removed] who is part of Mitre 10 urgently as our home has been left an absolute mess.
We seek to have the "Preference" Jarrah 3mm Engineered Floorboards approx 80sqm - the JUNK - removed from our home without damaging our home and we want our money back and then start again and suggest to us a product that is of QUALITY that will NOT be defective.
Taits Flooring we want this issue resolved NOW. You can see that the product that you sold to your installer (and had your installer lay it who was obviously aware there were issues with it but did not disclose it) is defective and do not need a report to prove that. Also Taits, suggest you read other complaints on this site as they appear to be the same/similar.
Amazing quality... best flooring ! – We purchased the preference oakleaf natural laminate flooring. This flooring is the best laminate flooring, they look beautiful, they are durable and this was extremely important to us as we have young childreb playing inside a lot, yet these floors can take a battering with no damage not even a scratch. It is two years now since we installed them, we did them ourselves they were really easy.
Defective product, with faulty locking mechanism – The engineered timber product we purchased - at great expense - had a serious manufacturing defect evident as soon as the floor was installed. The defect is that the locking mechanism is faulty. The boards are supposed to click together tightly, but the these end joints are loose, leaving small but unsightly gaps everywhere. Hoping that Preference honours the warranty, so we don't end up needing to take it to VCAT.
Great floor Poor service from Preference – The flooring looks great however the service from Preference floors was dreadful. A few edges were damaged on arrival. Had the floor fitted and found we were 3 peices short. Had photos of the damaged sections but Preference would not replace. Huge cost to complete job and they weren’t even able to supply the 3 lengths required to finish the job.… Read more
On top of $8000 we would need to pay $600 to get the correct 3 lengths. Will buy from elsewhere in future.

Disappointed in the product and the service – Two weeks after installation, we found splits and squeaks in the newly installed engineered floors. The product is ‘Preference Select Spotted Gum’. Our installer uninstalled a few boards from the floor, the boards have already bowed. Two people from ‘Preference’ came for an inspection. They showed me with their moisture meter that the new… Read more
floor boards have high moisture readings ranging from 14.7 to 15.5, one of them told our installer over the phone that the moisture content is high. The other person suggested we have high moisture inside our house. I lifted up the underlay from the uninstalled area for him to take a reading on the subfloor – the original Tasman Oak boards. We saw 8.8 appearing in the screen of their moisture meter. Our house is sitting on stumps with no damp area underneath.
“How do you explain the reading difference between your product and our original floor boards?” I asked them. They couldn’t give a specific answer and concluded with “Anything is possible”. They also pointed out things such as skirting “sitting too tight on the new boards”, “cold draft come from underneath the house”. They didn’t examine the unpacked products sitting in our hallway and suggested the moisture level in our house is the problem. One of them said: “The engineered floor is a natural product. All boards will bow. 5mm is totally acceptable according to the industry standard.” In my photo, the board has curled to create a gap of 15mm.
It was promised that a report will be prepared within 2 to 3 business days. We haven’t heard from ‘Preference’ for a whole week despite the reseller has contacted them at least twice on our behalf. We are disappointed in the product and the service from ‘Preference’. People who have bought the same product, it is time for you to have another look in your floor.
We won our VCAT case against the business. As a result, they had to give us full refund. It shows that the quality of product is indeed questionable!
