ProtectMe Fabric Protector Questions & Answers
VerifiedWe just purchased the Stupendous Sectional by Ashley Furniture which has a plush wide corduroy fabric. I tried to paste a photo of the fabric but it wouldn't allow me to, but you can Google it to see what I'm talking about. It is almost white in color so we need something to protect it, but have read that fabric protectors can change the feel/look of the fabric. Is protectME a good option for this type of fabric? It was expensive (at least for us) and we are nervous about putting something on it that might compromise our investment. A word of wisdom would be appreciated :)
Hi Robert! You can rest assured protectME won't change the texture and feel of the fabric. protectME is safe to use on most fabrics but we do get you to check the care instructions of the fabric to make sure it isn't "dry clean only".
Using a water based protector like protectME on these sorts of materials, can cause slight colour loss or fading.
If there are no care instructions, it's best to check with the manufacturer.
ProtectME will also only work on water absorbing material fibres.
We highly recommend to spot test first in an inconspicuous area to check for colour fastness.
We hope this helps!
I sprayed protectME on my fabric luggage, made from 1000D recycled nylon. It just pooled and did not soak in. Why? And will it still protect my luggage?
I sincerely doubt it from my experience with the product
Hello Rose, I am sorry to hear that you haven't been happy with how protectME has performed and we do offer a 100% money-back guarantee. Is it ok if I ask you a few questions? How much product did you use? How many coats did you apply? Did you treat the whole luggage? Do you have a photo you can share?
We usually recommend applying 100ml of protectME per m2 of fabric for most fabrics per coat. Please note that some fabrics will require a second coat — usually thicker/more absorbent fabrics such as rugs, linen, cotton, or loose weave fabrics. This second coat can be applied within 30 mins from the first with another 100ml per M2.
Based on this ratio, our 750ml bottle will cover about 7.5m2 of fabric and our 5-litre container will cover 50m2 of fabric.
The coating should last 2-3 years depending on traffic.

How to iron clothes after applying protect me
I am so sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
You can iron your clothes after applying protectME as protectME can withstand temperatures of up to 250 degrees celsius.
Hope this helps
Ironing after protect me how ?
Yes you can iron after protecting with protectME as the coating that protectME leaves behind, can withstand temperatures of up to 250 degrees celsius.
I have 6 dining room chairs, seats and backs need coverage. Light grey 100% polyester. What qty and specific product would you recommend and would you suggest 2 coats?

That particular material shouldn't need a 2nd coat but completely up to you if you did want to do another coat. The second coat can be applied 30 mins after the first coat.
Hope this helps.
Thank you
Can this be used on fabric outdoor furniture? How would it stand up to Australian summers?
Hi Donna. Yes you can use protectME on outdoor furniture not a problem. Any outdoor furniture we do recommend you apply 2 coats. It is best to check with the manufacturer has not already applied a fabric protector to the furniture or the material itself.
protectME needs water absorbing fibres to adhere to and if there is already a protector applied, then protectME will just spill straight off.
please note using protectME won't help with protection against fading as using protectME won't increase the SPF rating of the fabric.
Hope this helps!
Will protectME work as a fiber protector on a viscose rug?
Thanks so much for contacting us. protectME is safe to use on most fabrics including viscose but we do get you to check the care instructions of the fabric to make sure it isn't "dry clean only". Using a water based protector like protectME on dry clean only materials, can cause slight colour loss or fading.
If there are no care instructions, it's best to check with the manufacturer.

Does protect me work against pet stains like pee, vomit and diarrhoea? What if my animal pees on something while I'm at work and it's left for a few hours?
Thanks so much for contacting us. protectME can withstand pH levels of between 2-13. Most bodily fluids would be between that range but vomit can sometimes be more acidic and sit around the 1pH. If there has been an accident, blot it up with paper towel, and use a product like urineFREE to break down the organic matter and clean the area.
You will not need to reapply protectME after you have done this but it might pay to retreat after any vomit incase the acidity has eaten through the coating slightly.
Hope this helps.
Can I iron my clothes after applying protect me
Yes you can.
The coating that protectME leaves behind can withstand temperatures of up to 250 degrees celcius. A standard iron normally gets to 220 degrees celcius.
Is this product safe to use on a baby carseat?
Hi Franches, protectME can be used on car seats. We do recommend checking the manufactures care instructions as some seated can not be treated due to the fire retardant that they apply.
Hi, I used this on a handwashable dress that going to be worn. The next day once it had dried, there were water marks everywhere. How do I use the product on a dress without creating these water marks? Should I handwash it first and then spray it down with protectme while its still wet all over? It definitely won't dry with watermarks that way, although I don't want to bother if it the product is not going to be effective doing it this way. Please let me know if this is okay??
Morning. When applying protectME, you should use enough product so that the material looks wet all over. Normally we recommend applying 100ml per M2 of fabric per coat. Very absorbent materials should have 2 coats and the second coat can be applied 30 mins after the first coat.
Can I ask what material the dress is?
Can I ask how much product you applied?
We don't recommend applying protectME to to wet materials as it is already water based and it can dilute the product making it less effective.
Thanks
Hi, does this work on Satin shirts?
Thank you for your message. protectME works on most types of fabric, including silk, so should not be an issue but please double check on the care instructions that the material isn't "dry clean only". protectME is water based and using our product on these sorts of materials is not recommended as it can cause slight colour loss or fading.
Please always do a spot test first to ensure your fabric is colourfast, especially when natural dyes are involved.
ProtectME will last on the shirt for up to 30 washes.
We hope this helps.
Thanks, Rachel
Would this product protect mildew or mould on roller blinds?
protectME has been primarily developed to protect against liquid stains and dirt. The way it works is by coating each individual fibre with a clear, breathable coating that will stop the fibres from retaining any moisture and also stop the fibres holding onto any dirt which has been found to be the main food source for mould. Take away these 2 things and mould will find it very hard to survive.
Hi I was wondering if the lounge maintains a soft feel like it felt before you protect it? Thanks
Hi Julie.
Applying our protectME fabric protector will not change the look, feel or smell of the fabric.
Thanks Rachel
Great thanks
For me the fabric felt the same after treatment but I must say the actual protection didn’t last anywhere near the “ up to three years” as per their claim. I would say 18 months to two years.
Hi Peachy. Can I ask what you applied the protectME fabric protector to? Couch, rug, dining chairs? We do recommend 2-3 years depending on traffic so for higher traffic areas like carpets and rugs, then we say 2 years as the nano coating wears thin through abrasion.
Can I ask how much product you applied and how many coats as well as what sort of material it was you were treating. you are welcome to send photos through if you wish.
Thanks
Hi I have bought the Protectme spray and I am wondering if it would work on faux fur pet beds? My cat likes to pee in his bed as soon as it’s been through the wash!
Hello protectME can be used on velvet, microfibre and most fabrics with a nap like faux fur beds. We recommend to use a soft brush to help raising the nap of the fabric and ensure even product distribution, once protectME has been sprayed on.
You can read our blog post about velvet here: external link
Just bear in mind that with faux fur, the weave is quite loose. The way protectME works is that it coats each individual fibre so with loose weave material, won't cause the beading affect and is not to be confused as a waterproofer. Our product is breathable, so does not change the look, feel or smell of the product.
protectME can be applied and it lasts for around 30 washes.
We hope this helps!
Thanks, protectME team.
i have Sail Shades on a 35-40 degree angle on the side of my house from the pergola to the fence for privacy - block Uv rays, but its not 100% water proof will this product work for me. thankyou. Mario
Mi Mario, protectME works on outdoor fabrics. We recommend applying one strong coat or two coats for outdoor items. Please note that if the fabric has been previously treated with another fabric protector, we do not recommend applying protectME on top of it as it would not be able to bond properly with the fabric and form the water repellent coating. As you mention that the sail shades are not 100% waterproof, if they have been treated by the manufacturer, this may mean that the coating has started wearing off.
Please also note that protectME will not prevent fabric colours from fading in the sun.
We hope this helps.
Thanks, Dan
Thanks Dan the sail shades are only been installed last week the are sold as weather resistant so a little rain does pass. "The material is enhanced with Americhem UV resistant additive" but I was after a more water resistant approach as well. The shade cloth is 280gsm Instahut brand. Will the above coating interfere if I would apply protect Me?
Hi Mario, we can't speak to the water resistance of Americhem UV resistant additive or its interference with protectME. If you would like to order protectME and do a small test patch to see if it works, we would be happy to honour our 30 days money back guarantee if it doesn't work. Thanks, Dan
I just sprayed my chairs with the Premium Fabric Protector, can I dry them in the sun? Cheers Gaye
Hi Gaye, yes you can!
I allowed my chairs to dry inside, so I am unable to assist with any advice.
Hi there. I have 3 dogs who can be naughty about peeing on the rug. I have purchased ANOTHER new rug...grrr..... this time we have gone for a chunky natural jute/sisal rug and I'm keen to know if this product will be suitable for this material? Thanks, Jenny Ashley.
Hi Jenny, Thank you for your enquiry. Yes protectME can be used on this type of rug. Please note that jute is very absorbent so you may need to repeat the treatment a couple of times to protect it.
Thankyou for getting back to me. Looks like a great product. I'll do an online order. Cheers Jen.
We have four dogs that like to lay on the couch with us and they are constantly licking the couch and licking their paws...they sometimes Mark the couch when we are not there so we are looking for a fabric protectant that is non toxic to our dogs... Scotchgard claims that its safe once it dries but we are concerned that when they lick the couch and get it wet with their tongue it will reactivate the chemicals and hurt them... what kind of feedback can you give us on your product?
Hi Patt, sorry for the delayed reply. protectME is non toxic and safe for your pets. It is water based and does not contain PFAS or any other toxic chemicals you may find in other mainstream fabric protectors. So you should be fine applying it to your couch and letting them on the couch once the coating is fully cured (12 hours). We hope this helps!
Hi, just wondering how much I would need for a 6 seater couch? Would 750ml be enough?
Hi Nicole, We recommend an application rate of 100ml per square meter of fabric. For a 6 seater the 750ml would not be enough, we would recommend either the 2 Litre + 750ml or the 5L depending on the amount of fabric that is to be treated.
