I bought a set of Rhino Racks about 12 years ago, and they have been on the vehicle ever since. Now I need to take them off to move to another vehicle, but I can't locate the key to unlock them. The locks and keys are numbered - mine takes no. 107. No problem I thought, they claim to make their products to last, so they will still have a stock of… Read more
keys, or at least the pattern so clients can get a locksmith to make up a key. No. " they no longer have any remaining stock of the key that you'd need, as this was discontinued quite some time ago.". No more Rhino Racks for me.
Just fitted the Rhino rack platform 6 to my 2025 Gxl 300 series and the rack is nice but the noise is absolutley riddiculas. Anything over 70km and the noise is so bad. I would not have bought one if i knew this.
My Pajero Sport roof rack started making a terrible noise about 9 months ago. There was a recall on the pajero backbone, however Rhino Rack didn’t disclose this until about 2 months ago. Rhino rack became unresponsive for months at a time. The damage to my car became so bad i had to remove the rack myself to prevent further damage. I cannot… Read more
emphasise enough, do not do this to your vehicle. Months of zero contact, lies, asking for more quotes - all while they knew the product had a recall.
Do not put a rhino rack on your car.
(Ended up winning this however, they paid 6k to restore my roof to new, and refunded me all costs including original installation)
10/10 worst customer service i’ve ever seen.

I had my cross bars snap right off all four legs with a load on top. Load was evenly spread and well secured, within the weight rating. Rhino racks take no accountability for the complete quality failure, saying that the cross bars were never attached as there was no damage to them when you can clearly see that components have snapped clean off. Such disappointing service from what I though was a reputable brand.
Although I am happy with the 270 degree batawning and accessories the one star is for the very poor customer service from the Rhino help desk in Australia. What a disgrace very unhelpfully and don't return your messages. I queried my rhino parcel with the rhino help query email address as to why my parcel was left outside of my gate on the… Read more
footpath? Well its been 5 days and still mo response from RHINO. Your after sales service team is letting you down RHINO. They have no idea on there sales on there web site. I had to explain this to the sales assistant in one of a number of emails. Don't buy any RHINO product if you expect great after sales assistance or queries.
Cheap materials. Not weather proof whatsoever. Hardware rusts out and constantly stains my white canopy. Messaged Rhinorack about it. Couldn't be bothered to answer.

Corrosion Issues – Purchased a Pioneer platform and had local Toyota dealer install , within 3 weeks had rust stains appearing on roof from Galvanised fixings used with the brass nuts . The corrosion quit severe for such a short term , they would not compensate for my costs to rectify this issue and then required fixings back to see if they could work the issue out . Absolutely no after sales service they just take the money and run Show reply
Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform 6 and Backbone on Fortuner – I mounted a new Pioneer platform 6 and backbone to my 2022 Toyota Fortuner GXL. Really happy with the quality and the end result but getting to that point wasn't straight forward. The measurements are wrong to fit the platform to the backbone, but easily fixed. Yes there is noise over 80km/hr but that is the nature of these things. I'll be… Read more
mounting a roof top tent and this provides the most stable and strong platform on the market. I love the range of accessories and usability of them. World's your oyser with these but they aren't the cheapest

Great but fitting the system will send you mental! – Rhino rack are good and strong. BUT!!!!!!!! there is a lot left to be desired about their fitting system and instructions (or poor instructions). Where to to start ?? Ok Track System RTS518 for iLoad. For starters the instructions are not correct at all. It mentions holes 1,4,5 are doubel skin and holes 2 and 7 need a punch down. If… Read more
anything holes 1 and 8 need punch down and the rest is double skin. Not that it matters as its a van and its not an issue if they are seen on the underside. Also if you use a punch like they suggest 4-5mm then the shaft of the punch widens as it goes along its shaft meaning if you punch the skin in any spot you actually risk widening the initial hole. So DON'T punch the hole and you can infact just drill through all the way. Its not like you are driving 50mm into the roof. Also forget a stop bit....just drill like 20mm in and you'll be fine.
Now onto the feet system. My kit had 2 different screws to screw into the track. 1 set had Hex screwhead and a hex tool. The other set had star screw head and hex tool ([Content Removed]?!?!?!) lucky I had a star bit or I'd be stuffed. Also they could be somewhat longer, trying to locate the hole for the gold nut is fun! NOT!
Then you get to fitting the roof bar (and any accessory for that fact). Do you think I could easily stop that damn cam but to stop trying to turn sideways ?? Nope very hard. Took me 1 hour to fit 1 bar and a lot of swearing and Googling the terms "how to stop rhino cam nut from turning in bar track" or similar. Not even some explanation on the instructions. Seriously whats the secret ? For me I put my finger in the track and did them tight enough at each end with the bar pushed to the end then when there was enough grip to stop them spinning I slid the bar into each position at each end then did them up. Oh! and if you need to do them up have a long 17mm ratchet spanner because a socket tool will not fit and hit the roof. Very crappy system. The accessories can be equally as infuriating to sit.
Oh yeah and whats the deal with multiple bolt sizes ? 17mm for the feet, 16mm for the ladder strap hook and 13mm for the ladder strap its self. Why not all the 1 size ????
Overall, I hate the fitting system and it is overpriced given the hair pulling you will do!
Great customer service – I recently got a new car and found that my rocky mounts bike rack hitch was too small. Rocky Mounts USA identified the part needed but was unable to ship it to Australia, and said to contact Rhino-Rack in Australia. Helen from Rhino Rack customer service managed to locate the part, even though it was not on their product list. She then found and… Read more
ordered the part from America and sent it out to me within a week. The XL Hitch Bolt fitted perfectly. Thanks so much:)
Creaking Noise – I've had a pioneer platform for a few years on a hilux which I had bought with it already installed. Over large bumps it would make a huge noise. On the holidays I have had time to investigate and the riveted mounts were completely loose in the roof channel. Most likely just from time and the rivets wearing down. It was also extremely loose when… Read more
pushing by hand. I drilled them all out and replaced them and re-installed the rack. Now this thing is as stiff as a it can get. Forward to the next drive and I have a huge new creaking noise. Wth right? This thing can't even move. However, it's so tight that the plastic locks & mounts are creaking so bad it was driving me mad. I added a bit of padding in there when I initially redid the rivets so it's not that. I haven't got a permanent fix for anyone who ends up in this thread but lubrication with a bit of grease and sorted it out for now. Hope this helps someone who might head down the same path as me

Rhino rack series 6 – Wouldn’t bother. I got the series 6 installed on my new Volkswagen amarok. Was advised this is the new thinner, more quilter platform. However Wind noise is terrible. Platform racks noisy on Nissan Patrols – I purchased a pioneer platform rack with back bone for a new Nissan Patrol series 5 and had fitted by my local Autobarn. come undone. Such a big company with their own engineers and still cant come up with a decent roof rack system. I have had other brands on previous Patrols and no real wind issues.
Poor support and customer experience with Rhino-Rack – Purchased a Pioneer Platform 5 with backbone for my 22 Ford Everest. The noise from the platform was aggressive (as expected) so purchased the wind fairing. As there is only a flexible fairing option for the Everest, this is what I received and it’s quite inadequate. It’s like driving a tea kettle at anything close to 100kph. No problem, I’ll just… Read more
call Rhino-Rack and see what they can do… Nothing. “Sorry, we don’t have any options for you”. Even consulted ARB who tried to speak to Rhino-Rack on my behalf. Because the platform 5 I had for mere months had be made obsolete by the 6.. they refused to help and could offer no solution aside from further expense from me to get the 6. Thoroughly dissapointed.
Recent Update: Rhino Rack's only solution is to live with a noisy product or I pay more money for the Pioneer 6 as they wont be creating any more accessories for the 5.

Over the moon – I had a Rhino-Rack roof rack installed by others, which kept on failing due to rusting fittings. Rhino-Rack contacted me immediately and sorted this issue out. They were prompt professional, and I was very impressed with service I received. I could not fault their aftersales service and would recommend them to anyone looking for a roof rack.
Outstanding Service – I recently had a Rhino Rack - Pioneer Platform put onto my Ford Ranger by a roof rack company. Product is rubbish – 6 series is rubbish. Only a week old and the bolts have rattled loose causing it to lose one of the planks. Called rhino rack to buy a replacement and they won’t sell me one. No nylon bolts, scratches easy and isn’t half as good and the previous modal. I wouldn’t buy this . Rather go for the 52100 (previous modal)
Creaking and rattling atrocious – Firstly, I have been attempting to locate rhino-rack Australia's email address, to ask then some questions about my pioneer platform installation. Seemingly they wish to hide behind the dealer Network. But what if you do not trust what the Dealer is telling you. The creaking and rattling of my rack is unbearable. This started 2 years ago, when… Read more
only a year old. Fitted by Arb, the tracks have not been installed in my Hilux channels, but rather into the roof parallel to the channels (riveted). Trying to confirm with Rhino, as to whether this is permitted, recommended as I am sure the roof material is not as dense/strong/thick as in the channel. Was I supplied an incorrect rack as the one installed is too wide for the channel? Either way, the noise is unbearable and it us inexcusable that Rhino do not provide contact details IMO.
100mm PVC conduit lock safe end cap. Product number LSE100H – Recently purchased the Rhino-Rack Lock Safe Endcap to fit 100mm PVC pipe that will be used to securely carry fishing rods in 100mm PVC pipe on my caravan. The locking cap its self i think is great, however Rhino-Rack does not supply a spare key, one key only. Be aware you will need to order a spare key or try to get a copy cut. I think this i poor considering every other lock you buy comes standard with at least 2 keys.
Not bad but not great – Bought new pioneer 6 platform from autobarn burleigh.opened up the box and has a broken corner cap on top. Pioneer 6 platform is great – I bought and fitted a Rhino-Rack Pioneer 6 platform to my Prado. For me, it was easy to fit-just took my time and double checked everything as I went. If you’re not sure just get it fitted by someone else. I took car for a drive to check wind noise and I didn’t notice anything. Maybe because I was listening hard there may have been some noise at 110km but my A/T tyres are noisier. Cant wait to add a few accessories.

Nice idea. Poor execution – The Rhino-Rack Quick Mount Leg is a nice idea to be able to quickly switch out roof bars (aero bars for heavy duty etc), but they're poorly engineered. At this stage after owning them for several years I now need a massive screw driver, a block of wood and a hammer to remove and replace these legs. And even with those tools it's still proving… Read more

Rhino Racks backbones – My partner and dad ordered rhino racks, My partners roof racks instructions were absolutely terrible. Dads backbones instructions were terrible too and the black sticker that go down with the backbone were sticky and sticking to everything and anything. And very sad that we didn't even receive a sticker in the box considering how much you pay for it. Do not like the service.

Wind noise is absolutely atrocious took it off – Picked up our new ranger (gen 2 Wildtrek) and ran it around for a month or two waiting for the Ford dealer to source the legs for the pioneer platform. make a phone call and as the microphone is straight above your head it picks up the wind noise so bad you couldn't even have a conversation. I drove home and took it off, I had a 800km trip planned that I needed it for so I ordered the vortex infill rubbers hopefully to quieten it down $70 later I get 4 strip's 400mm long basically to shut this thing up using vortex rubbers would cost u as much as buying the rack got home from this trip and removed the rack again. Anyone wants to buy a pioneer rack that has travelled less than 2000km let me know. After posting this review A Rhino rack representative got in touch with me and offered if I drove to Goulburn (a 2.5 hour drive each way) they would have someone put the rubber strip's on the underside of the rack for me. As mentioned above I have already installed their rubber strip's and it was just throwing more good money after bad as it did not work. I asked if there was somewhere closer I could take it and have not heard back from Rhino since despite sending them several more emails. I live near a rather large town in the central west surely there is something closer than a 2.5 hr drive. My guess is that Rhino are just too busy responding to all the other complaints they are getting about this over priced poor quality product with no after sales support. Do yourself a favour and don't buy one

They DO NOT care about their customers, they DO NOT care how much time they waste, they only care about the $$$.
UPDATE: Rhino-Rack have gone out of their way to rectify things, and I am currently waiting for replacement parts to arrive. It is still a shame that things need to get this far out of shape before anything gets done about it.... I will not buy their products again, not after this experience.
Rhino roof tray on 2023 MU-X sounds like a cyclone at 50Km/h and at 110Km/h is terrible – I recently added a Rhino roof tray to my 2023 MU-X and the wind noise is next level, even at low speed (40 - 60Km/h). I was referred to a vendor based on my location (as rhino don’t have a physical store! Red flag) to receive support. I contacted them about it, made my way there with the NEW bars I had to purchase only to find that they charge $140 per hour for the installation.
