Hi, I have an elderly uncle whose old heated needs to be replaced. The man who came to quote has suggested installing a Rinnai 2001 reconditioned unit, which he will reconditioned, with a one year warranty. His reason is that it is similar to the 30 year old heater that he currently has and provides radiant heat as well as blown out heat. Given what I have read is this a good idea?

Hi Mary, the 2001 heater is still a current model heater and information about the current models can be found on the Rinnai Australia website. There is also a heater selector which can recommend other heaters in the range that might be suitable.

Thank you I will look at the selector. Is there a problem with reconditioning this model?

Hi Mary, There is no generic problem with reconditioning the unit but we are unable to comment on the work completed by a 3rd party on our products and the scope of their work. The 2001 heater has been part of our range for over 30 years. The serial number on the unit will confirm the original date of manufacture of the unit with the 1st 2 number indicating the year and the next 2 numbers the month. you can then make an informed decision about the options you have,

My rinnai 2001 runs for 20 minutes then just keeps turning off. I’ve cleaned all the dust and got it serviced within 2 yearly, but it keeps switching off. Any ideas? Also, if it turns off, can I leave the turning knot at the “standby” mode or should I turn it to the “off” mode for safety reason? Like Share More

I am NOT satisfied, NOT happy and very Disappointed with the performance of the Rinnai2001 gas flued heater that I bought. It is NOT as good as it is stated in its product description. Shortly after I bought the Rinnai2001 it has had all sort of problems: the heater automatically keeps switching off again and again and again, plus the thermostat setting knot got stuck for quite a few times and I had to pay the tradesmen to fix it! For the last five years, in addition to I paid for the every two-yearly service, I have to keep putting up with its automatically switching off “habit”. Even though in severe freezing winter nights, it is very frustrating that I cannot keep it at maximum heat to warm up the room, it is always had to be at LOW heat in order not to turned off automatically! I had raised questions seeking advice from the Rinnai technical/customers care team but NONE of the reply or has any response. It is very disappointing!!! I don’t think I would recommend anyone else to buy this brand or model anymore.

Thanks for the question Sam, there could be a number of reasons why the unit has switched off. Has the heater been serviced recently? We recommend having the heater serviced every 2 years for optimum performance and safety.

I have a disgruntled resident that is not happy with the installation of a Rinnai 2001 console space heater. She claims that her gas usage is excessive and that it only has a rating 1.

Can you please give me some advice on how i can respond?

Thanks for the question Pat. The 2001 model gas heater does have a 1 star energy rating. The details for the heater can be found on the Rinnai Australia website at external link  Gas increases will depend on the previous heater and usage.
