I had a Rinnai approved service person to investigate the issues with the Rinnai Q series air conditioner.

There was an installation issue....kinks in the pipe and the installer was accredited to install. Repairing this and re-gassing did not fix the issue. The issue was a major one....a shaving had fallen into the pipes and caused a blockage. This issue was a manufacturing issue, prior to the installation. I heard Scott from All About Refrigeration, from Kingaroy, talk to the technician in Melbourne. It was agreed the problem was not a result of installation and was unfixable. It was a major repair requiring a major part. Scott mentioned he was a bit worried that the manager from Harvey Norman , Mr Pound, would give him no further work if he went against him. If I return the Item to Harvey Norman I can also ask for the installation and disconnection costs to be re-reimbursed. When I had gone to Harvey Norman they had refused to organize an investigation and told me to go straight to Rinnai, to avoid this cost. Hence I had had to employ the repair person myself. This is what Mr Pound e-mailed me when I asked him for a refund.

As per the information that I have received from Rinnai, there was an issue identified with the installation of the unit. Harvey Norman Electrical Kingaroy did not organize installation of the unit.

So if I don't use Harvey Normans installer I loose warantee Why has Rinnai given Mr Pound incorrect information?

He then went on to say

You have refused all reasonable attempts to have the original unit assessed by Rinnai by refusing to accept the terms of Rinnai’s service calls.

Rinnai said they would charge me $200 for a service call if it was an installation issue. I paid the same person $75 for the same job by organizing it myself. I was never contacted by Rinnai or Mr pound and offered a warrantee call. But I am not to get a refund because I am not going through Rinnai even though I am using their approved technician. Something is not right here.

Scott from All About Refrigeration will not provide me with a clear invoice I can use to claim warrantee work or removal of the old unit. I will take the matter to arbitration.

Enjoying our new Rinnai Inverter Split System Air Conditioner – Lat split system we had was a Daikin but this was more affordable and modern. The size of the system was as required by the size of room, which is a loungeroom. We run it quite warm - at 26.0 degrees as I dont like to feel chilly although hubbie likes it arctic! He accepts that 26 degrees will keep the room nice and cool even in those 47 degree days in January, we lived in the lounge-room as its the only air-conditioned room. The Rinnai is quiet, one click on and off and I was super surprised to see our electricity bill for the summer 3 months period was only up $150! Because it seems cheap to run, we tend to put it on as soon as we feel a little warm, but just stick to 26 degrees. If its actually cooler outside, then you just get fresh air, which is great because the room can get airless. Do your research of course, but we love this. On the downside we were not happy when Octopuss, their installer, cancelled stating illness on the day of our install. That meant we had to go to the back of the queue and wait over 3 weeks with no definite install date! I cancelled the install and we organised through McDonnell who were cheaper and whilst we still had to wait at least 2 weeks, its the principal right?

Purchased in at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances for $1,098.

Do not buy! – I went ahead with rinnai because of the built in WIFI and the attractive price point. Bought it from Good Guys Narre Warren. However, immediately after installation the indoor unit started making a loud noise as soon as it was turned on. And its loud enough that there is basically no point in using the unit at all. The installation guy washed his hands off saying its not his problem and I need to contact Good Guys. And the good guys washed their hands off by saying I need to get in touch with Rinnai! Now I purchased the units in Feb 2019. We are in May now with no resolution from Rinnai. I've followed up with Rinnai a number of times and every time I get a brand new excuse - oh sorry, our systems got corrupted, or the previous customer rep didnt take notes properly, or we'll get back to you by today evening for sure with the course of action (and never do)

They might be good with their water heater systems but as far as air cons are concerned, its just like a low budget brand, with incompetent service team. I regret putting my confidence in them and I feel so cheated. Would have been much better off spending few hundred dollars extra on a better brand like mitsubishi or LG.

Purchased in at The Good Guys Physical store for $1,250.
