1 Leah B.  · Would give 0 stars if I could. Impossible and unacceptable time wasting enrolment process.
1 Michael Duggan  · This outfit do NOT support students but are very happy to take their money. In any other walk of life it would be called by another name.
1 Khoa's W.  · They had one job but blew it – Crap customer service, outdated learning material lack of it and they don't teach you much.

I express my deep disappointment with my recent experience as a student at RMIT. After more than 60 years of life and varied learning experiences, I can confidently say this has been the worst learning experience I have encountered. Throughout my studies, I experienced ongoing and unresolved issues that significantly impacted my ability to… Read more

learn, feel supported, and complete my course requirements. These included: Repeatedly ignored communications: Emails to both teachers and management were often met with silence, leaving critical issues unresolved and making it impossible to get the support I needed. Blame-shifting: When problems arose, responsibility was often deflected back onto students, with teachers blaming us for miscommunications rather than working collaboratively to find solutions. Timetable chaos: The course timetable regularly contained incorrect room details and information about teaching staff. In one instance, we had no access to Semester 2 learning modules at the beginning of term. Staffing instability: Teachers left mid-course with no proper handover or explanation, and new teachers were brought in under stress and without support — often just trying to hold things together. Placement support failures: Perhaps most concerning was the lack of assistance in securing and managing placement. I was told, "You signed a contract to do it all yourself." My placement was nearly lost due to RMIT’s delay in informing students of key requirements. Lack of accountability from management: Ongoing issues were consistently ignored or passed around without resolution. Students were left to shoulder the burden of their own learning, with no acknowledgment of the systemic problems behind the scenes. Ineffectiveness of student representation: Despite reaching out, I found RUSU to be unresponsive and ineffective, unable or unwilling to assist in resolving serious student concerns. At its core, the most demoralising aspect was being ignored — over and over. This left me feeling powerless, frustrated, and alone in a system that should have empowered and supported me. I ask: What are we actually paying for at RMIT? The experience has left me with serious doubts about the institution’s commitment to quality education and student welfare. If prospective students have other options, I would strongly recommend they explore them. I share this feedback not just for myself, but for future students who deserve better. I hope RMIT takes this seriously and begins addressing the systemic issues affecting students' learning, wellbeing, and success.

Wish to express my appreciation as a disability support worker with a client studying IT and how impressed I was with the lecturer Trevor Stone who was so helpful and understanding fo my client and myself and went out of his way to assist in every way possible, and thank you for lecturer Ibrahim Karaan also! Thank you RMIT for providing such and high standard of education and understanding. Show quoted text

Corruption at its finest. Getting sworn at and abused by security even though my student ID let me in for study before classes commence in a few short hours. That lady would then talk to the other in a foreign language and laugh. who knows what they are saying about me. Very unacceptable not only at RMIT but in Australia. Thank God they didn't… Read more

Security are corrupt behind the scenes – I'm at student here and after 6.30pm access is only via our student swipe card. I'm here studying all night waiting for classes at 8am and around 4am was approached by security called [Name Removed] who started yelling at me to get out and leave?? I showed them my id and said I'm allowed to be here. He continued yelling and banging on the toilet… Read more

DISGUSTED – I enrolled here only to find out 5/8 classes were full , 2 were not running and only one was available. Certificate IV Allied health – Studying the certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance at RMIT was one of the most enjoyable learning experiences of my life. Most of the teaching staff is very organised and class sizes are small which gave me a better oppertunity to ask questions and understand the work. Chiropractic course – Chiropractic has been a somewhat organised course. The lecturers and coordinators do their best in situations that get trust upon them. Overall feeling like a competent chiropractor is most important, and I think the course does that best they can to achieve this

Psychology Honours at RMIT is great! – I did my Honours in 2013 at bundoora campus in psychology - it was a great program and now I'm doing a clinical masters. There was a great choice of research supervisors and topics and the coursework was well organised and presented - took everything I learned in undergrad to a new level, which is exactly what I expected. My research supervisor… Read more

was awesome - really helpful and got me my drafts back in time, every time. They are very up front and honest with students and friendly. There was an issue with some grades for one course, which turned out to be complete nonsense - just some guy with a personality disorder, a student I mean! Their standards are high, but not unreasonable - they reckon they benchmark to other uni's and I certainly got no sour looks from interviews when I told them I did my honours at RMIT - I got 3 offers, so .... :)

Definately agree with the cash cow comments and money extortion! I withdrew units from my enrolment before the penalty date and was stil charged over 2k for it. I have a 183 dollar student amenities fee forced to pay (being online- what amenities am I paying for?) and it is actually 182.88 but they decide to round it up to a whole dollar. They… Read more

have 90,000+ students, multiplied by 12 cents, equals over a Million dollars in profit for nothing!! that is just two examples of how they are stealing money!! WILL LITERALLY START A CLASS ACTION AND CONTACT ME ON adav6638@gmail dot com if you want to take part!!

I didn't pay my fee and started getting harrassed by debt collectors! Really! that is how they treat their students! The emails they have been sending me say 'I must pay by this or then date, and now, by tomorrow or else my enrolment will be cancelled!! When in fact the University policies clearly say: '$500.00 or more' - your enrolment in all current programs will be cancelled even if you have paid for the other program in full. If your enrolment is cancelled, you still must pay for materials or other fees, e.g. library fines, or they will be referred to a debt collection agency at additional cost to you, and you will have to reapply to the University if you wish to continue your studies in the cancelled program(s). If it is $499.99 or less - these fees will be referred to a debt collection agency at additional cost to you.'

So my fees are $183 dollars and not $182.88 which is both under $500 and they still refer me to a debt collection agency AND threten to cancel my enrollment?? What? It is great knowing how the students are being treated here. I've been a student at 4 other uni's and never been treated this way.

Terrible experience with their online course. They charge heaps of money, pretty much the equivalent to a uni and the whole process feels like a big joke. questions it has to be through a group chat. Many times the questions were poorly answered and even though the "instructors" have clear experience in their field, the methodology of teaching x what they expect from us as a result is completely unrealistic. My biggest waste of money in Australia studies so far, please avoid at all costs if you don't want to waste your money. I got better outcome from online courses at other platforms than from this so famous university. Plus, HORRIBLE customer service, it's been 2.5 months now I'm waiting for a follow up they promised they would give after I raised my issues with the course.

Ok place to learn – Ok place to study but doesn't have the prestige of some of the other universities. It's located centrally in Melbourne and is easy to travel to from anywhere in Melbourne. The courses are practical rather than theoretical.

RMIT experience – Horrible place to study. Unenthusiastic and slow teachers. The only positive things were fellow students and the infrastructure. Other than that, the whole place is a cash cow, looking for any form of sucking in your money. Majority of the teachers cant communicate with students due to language barriers. Customer service and student portal was horrible, since it took forever for my inquiry to be registered.

If you’re considering RMIT, be aware of these potential issues – RMIT is a (somewhat) functioning university, While they can be helpful when absolutely necessary, I encountered two significant issues that left me frustrated and confused. First, towards the end of my studies, I was informed that I couldn’t graduate due to some issue with my degree being in "teach-out"—a term I still don't fully understand. This… Read more

delay was unexpected and poorly communicated.

Second, I missed one administrative payment because I was on holiday and didn’t check my emails for a month. Instead of reaching out directly, they referred my account to a debt collector, which I initially thought was a scam because it was just a recorded message. This situation could have negatively impacted my credit score. It would have been much more professional to contact students directly before escalating to debt collection.

While the lectures were decent and the course units were fine, the administration is what really lets RMIT down. If you’re considering RMIT, be aware of these potential issues. Personally, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. Good luck!

Building design course - very bad – The building design course is impossible to study. Timetable is unrealistic and has no flexibility. 26 hours per week and night classes. They enrol so many students that you do not feel like you’re getting a service. Teachers a hard on marking and don’t let you resubmit. There are better schools to do this course.

Worst university ever – RMIT without a doubt has most arrogant staff of any university in the country. They lie and give very poor service. Then blame you if you complain. Senior staff or senior administrators at RMIT are particularly disappointing. Their dishonesty and poor service made me withdraw from starting a very expensive master's degree with them. I opted for another university due to their unacceptable behaviour.

Horrible experience enrolling online; absolutely zero care factor by RMIT – The Program coordinator of Accounting and Bookkeeping at RMIT was absolutely shocking in his lack of basic people skills. The course date was to start on the 12 Feb, I was told this on the 13 Feb. Apparently the course had already started 2 weeks earlier and it was impossible for me to catch up. Even though I wanted to study this course full-time and they offered it part-time. No one informed me of any deadline through the entire enrolling process. No apology for the misinformation or misleading me. No flexibility for me to begin anyway. And incredibly rude emails from head of program in accounting, dismissing me. I'm disgusted with the way this institution has conducted itself.

of the classes that I have completed have been updated in their pathetic website for more than a year.

If you have any overdue fees, they will lock you out from accessing any other information regarding your past units. Even when you do have access to this info, it's never up to date on their system and says: "In progress, activities completed 0/7" Again, it has been like this for over a year.

When I tried to reach out and explained my situation, I got a generic response from their team which didn't help at all. Then a follow up emailing saying I have overdue fees. Very frustrating trying to explain this to my employer as well.

Also, the new management is a joke. They don't care about your education; they just care about you paying on time. I wouldn't recommend this institution to my worst enemy and hope they get a reality check of how poor their services are.

It has been a horrible mistake to enroll in RMIT – I enrolled in the Master of Data Science Online course, we pay full tuition fee as those on campus students but the quality of study is shocking! It's been so frustrating just trying to get a simple thing solved, please think twice if you're about to enroll their programs!

Go elsewhere – I studied the combined short course Product Management bundle 'future skills short course' at RMIT Online in 2023. I had a number of issues and felt the course completely underdelivered. - You could leave with a refund within the first week, but this timeline should be extended as most people cannot make this decision so quickly. Extending it to… Read more

3 weeks in a 14-week course is reasonable. - My course was 14 weeks - 8 weeks for product management fundamentals and six weeks for product management advanced. However, the advanced course was cancelled, so I did the 8 week course, then was expected to have a three-month break, then enroll in the advanced course. However, I had already booked overseas travel. I ended up inquiring for a refund for the 2nd half of the course. Very frustrating as I actually took time off work to complete the course over the 14-week period and planned it between surgeries.

-The coursework was poor, very generic, and without much substance. You would be better off using udemy, google/ LinkedIn Learning etc. Most of the resources in the course were online anyway. I was hoping to learn more about tools/ frameworks used by product managers but felt that the information was very general and not practical.

We were told the wrong time in the first lecture, so people missed the lecture and had to watch the recording. The second lecture, an incorrect link was sent out, and a second link was sent after the lecture started, which created a lot of confusion.

- Customer Service is terrible- no fault of individuals, but the systems don't seem to work, and I had to repeat my issue to 7 different people. I wasn't enrolled in the course on Canvas, and I only found out it had been cancelled when I enquired about how I enrol in the second part of the course (noting I had already paid in full for the course at this point, and completed the first 8 weeks).

- The final assignment was marked, and then based on the feedback, you could resubmit if you didn't get the required marks. However, it would be marked within a two-week window, and you had two days from when it's marked to resubmit. On the assignment, it says you have to log in and check every day to see if it's been graded. You would think a simple email notification if it's been graded would help.

I have studied at Deakin university for my undergraduate and would recommend this uni over RMIT.

Warning- do not do the Diploma of Nursing – I started this course mid 2021, eager to learn. Unfortunately as the course progressed I realised there was 0 support from teachers, terrible communication, technical issues with the student portal, old lectures/ years old PowerPoint presentations that were impossible to follow, and an overall unwelcoming environment. Here are some concrete… Read more

examples of these issues:

-the lectures for the classes online, had 50 + PowerPoint slides, with facts that appeared to be copied and pasted from Google, the class did not 'hone in' , to the specific subject matter and went into too many directions which were difficult to follow. Many students complained- nothing was resolved -Everything was online (which is understandable due to covid) , but the responses from teachers were extremely slow or non existent, this was stressful when there were so many assesments due, if we had a genuine question with 0 help, we would fail the assesment as TAFE is competency based -made to feel stupid for asking questions in practical classes: due to the majority of classes being online, many of the students had very little hands on practice, for the practical classes such as vital signs ect. When students did attend class I would have questions relating to the procedure, the response I received from a teacher was eye rolling and passive aggression. -RMIT cards not working- this is self explanatory, cards not working when trying to access buildings students need to access, then wasting time trying to find how to fix this issue and given poor directions to do so -teachers who talk to you like a highschool student instead of a mature adult -tutorials constantly getting cancelled in person -teachers who were late - miscommunication with lectures- there was an announcement made that lectures would now be in person, students showed up with no one there, then told lectures are actually online, what a waste of time and travel!

-Many other issues I can list, but I will stop here

There were mature students here in there late twenties, a stressful age were you need to find a career and hone into it, before settling down, and many dropped out. RMIT wasted students precious time with there lack of organisation, miscommunication, and in general, not caring. I'm warning students don't come here, all the course will do is: waste your time and effect your mental health.

Their adminstration is useless so I dropped out – Their systems broken/lack options so you need to call them. Every time you call you're on hold for hours. Then you get the run around. with new enrolments, however, other avenues for support need to made available. So the next step is completing the LLN’s. What a complete joke. As was the English assessment. I was so incensed when I got my results stating I’m not proficient in many areas. Absolute rubbish. Now I’m left with multiple sub topics that need to be addressed.
