I am utterly appalled by my experience with RSPCA Pet Insurance. After four years of trusting this company with my two dogs, I discovered that their so-called “best coverage” is misleading and does not cover essential treatments such as dental cleaning. I was reassured by representatives that my pets would have full coverage for everything, and I… Read more
relied on that advice when selecting their best policy.
To my shock, when I attempted to claim for routine dental care, I was told it was not included and that I should have “read the policy” despite having explicitly sought the highest coverage available and being told I was fully covered. This is completely unacceptable. I trusted your company to provide the best care and coverage for my pets, and instead I feel deceived, dismissed, and undervalued as a customer.
The way this complaint was handled reflects a total lack of professionalism, transparency, and customer care. I am extremely dissatisfied and cannot recommend RSPCA Pet Insurance to anyone seeking trustworthy and comprehensive coverage.
This was my first claim experience after having changed my pet insurance cover to RSPCA less than a year ago. Our 7 year old border collie required surgery to repair a hernia and as the vet we use was able to submit claims direct to RSPCA as he went through the course of his treatment we only needed to pay the gap amount each time. went through smoothly and we are happy to recommend RSPCA Pet Insurance based on our most recent experience.
⭐ 1 Star – Absolutely Not Worth It I had a $350 vet invoice and after submitting my claim, I was reimbursed only $13. This is after paying $170 per month for a “Plus” policy, and making only one claim in an entire year. Honestly, what is the point of having pet insurance if this is the outcome? The coverage sounds good when you sign up, but when… Read more
you actually need it, the payout is almost nothing. This feels extremely misleading and not transparent. The gap between what you pay and what you actually get back is unacceptable. Instead of peace of mind, this insurance has been a complete waste of money. I would not recommend RSPCA Pet Insurance to anyone.

We are in our second year with RSPCA and are very grateful with our pet insurance. Our stress would have been 10 times greater without our pet insurance. If you are even considering a pet, RSPCA Pet Insurance is an absolute must! Thank you Show details · 1

Easy, no stress considering we were concerned for our cat, I was pleasantly surprised. Only paid the out of pocket expenses and that was so helpful. Show details · 1
The pet insurance provider offers outstanding coverage and assistance when it is most needed. This service has proven to be particularly beneficial for my pet, Caramel, who has received excellent care since he was insured by his owner in 2013. Show details · 1
After getting my vet to give me their medical history for my dog everything went easy in regards to claiming. Now all I do is take the dog to the vet, get them to put the claim in and I pay the gap. Sometimes it takes a while to come through so I leave them with it and go back when I’m passing to pay the outstanding amount. So easy Show details · 1
On my first claim I got $500 back from a $650 bill and it only took a few days. After-hours vet clinics are practically extortionate in Sydney but sometimes when there's an injury you just can't wait. Anyway I'm very grateful and glad with the outcome and my little guy is doing just fine now. Show details · 1

I have this insurance for my GSD Duke , it is a great insurance company , I have had no problems claiming and I do the gap only , I would definitely recommend them to any pet parent Show details · 1
Follow-up · I am still very happy with RSPCA pet insurance , they also do gap payment and the policy is easy to understand , one thing I DONT like is that you only get 3 vet consults per year which is NOT enough . Kim Nott

Not Great Value As Suggested! – The policy does not represent good value for money unfortunately; there’s a ‘premium’ for people who care for their pets, I have had this policy for sometime now and in terms of return for outlay the percentage received back is very poor! Show details
Follow-up · I’ve received some money back as the cat’s illness was covered which makes me wonder had I not complained would the outcome been favourable. My advice is to read the T&C’s very carefully!

This is an easy review to write. I have had to make a claim for our 10 year old boy 3 times now - two of those in the last two days. Each time, RSPCA have come through with not a single issue. It's stressful enough having to take your furbaby to the… Read more · 1
vet for urgent care without worrying what it will cost and debating with the vet whether it's truly an important enough issue to pay potentially thousands for. Of course you're always willing to pay whatever it takes, but it can really hurt your wallet. RSPCA made our horrible last two days not stressful at all financially, so we could focus only on our boy getting better. It was actually a pleasure paying for our bill at the end of the day yesterday and today.
I put 4 stars only because we do pay ALOT each fortnight for insurance. At $90 a fortnight, it's crazy - and a quick google search shows that others are of the same opinion. But in the end, it saved us in our time of need. Thankfully we've only needed to use our insurance 3 times in 10 years, so we've more than paid more than they've paid us out, and we never use it unless we have to.
But other than that, we're simply over-the-moon with RSPCA service wise. It's incredible and no fuss at all. The last two days have been exhausting and stressful, and they made it easy for us to be able to take all the tests we needed to, to make sure we got the very best care for our precious little boy.
Follow-up · How was the online portal? Great! Although, TBH, I didn't have to login except to get my account details to pass onto the vet to organise the insurance for me. But the portal is always easy enough. Any pre-existing condition issues? No. What about the excess? So the entire treatment was around $3800-ish, but I was only out of pocket about $550-ish. AMAZING!!!

I would have given 3 stars, as their emergency illness cover has assisted me twice and the claim process was relatively fast, usually withij a week or two depending how fast your vet gets their notes in. The rest of the time I believe their premiums are absolutely expensive. I had two policies for two Pomeranians (started a year a part). 1st… Read more
problem they have which is apparently experienced by many here - premium increases. Both dogs started at roughly $55 and $60 a month. Five years later, one is at $141 (one year behind, so if you do the same math justification the next increment will be $185 this year) and the other is at $151. The jump to this year was 30% year on year. How that is justified, they tell you it's the area, the breed of dog, the usual corporate jargon excuses.
2nd problem I had, I forked out $6k for my dogs knee surgery purely because they denied the claim as my vet mentioned one phrase in their notes during their very first ever puppy exam. The phrase was not even anything remotely close to saying my dog had a knee issue, just a comment but with no follow up required. They used that to deny my surgery claim. Even my vet tried to dispute the fact.
Stay away from this company. They suck you in with okay initial premiums for the first year knowing full well pet insurance is virtually impossible to change companies and lock you in for good. They then jack their premiums up year on year until you're eventually paying through your nose.
I can keep the money the $300 per month (probably 350 this year) they're charging me and put it aside for my own insurance and be far better off instead of gifting money them.
Trustworthy? No. Would I ever recommend them? No At face value, they market with RSPCA branding as though they care about the animals, but it's clear, their bottom line matters most. That's fine for a corporate company, not for an apparent branch of a animal charity.

Pet Insurance is a no brainer for me. I have saved thousands of dollars in the three years that I have had the Pet Insurance. I have saved much more than I have paid in insurance. Recently, one of my Dachshunds ate a stone!! The vet bill was $9000. But I only had to pay 20% because of my Insurance. Two years ago, my other dog ate a puffer fish… Read more · 1
and was kept in overnight. They had to run lots of tests. Again, I only had to pay 20% of the $8000 bill.
The best thing about Pet Pet Insurance that I have total peace of mind. If there is ever a problem with my dog, such as unusual vomiting or going off food, I don’t hesitate to take them to the vet and the vet can do any tests that they recommend without me having to think twice about the cost because I know I will be reimbursed 80%. I can’t recommend it enough!!
As it is directly debited from my account, I don’t notice it but I do notice the huge savings every time I go to the vet.
At my local vet, I only have to pay the gap. I really recommend going to vets that offer that service so that you don’t have to pay the whole bill upfront and then be reimbursed later.
I have got the top Pet Insurance (ultimate plus) with the additional accident and emergency cover because I read the fine print very carefully and realised that I could get caught out on the fine print.
I also got the insurance from when my dogs were puppies as in the fine print it says that if it is a pre-existing condition there is less or no reimbursement so I figured that if I got the insurance from when my dogs were puppies there would be no pre-existing issues.
Have been with RSPCA now for many, many, many years with my dogs. I find the policy reasonably good value although given it is the Ultimate Plus it should offer more than $300 per year back on Vet consultation fees and should consider an allowance for pet physiotherapy as this treatment has been instrumental in getting my fur baby up and moving… Read more · 1
properly again after her operation last year. The policy was easy to set up online and the people answering the phones have always been helpful. I recently had problems getting onto the pet portal and the staff were great in helping rectify the issue. I find the GapOnly component is a blessing and the time it takes to process while you wait is quite quick (about 5-10 mins wait on average). Even if I pay the bill myself and then submit the claim it only seems to take a 2-3 days. The SMS confirmation that you are working on the claim is great too. Overall I have been happy with the processing of invoices over the years. If I wasn't, I would not continue with RSPCA insurance. Yes, it is expensive, but last year's unexpected health issue proved its value to me.

My cat is getting older now so I need to use the insurance more than ever before. Making claims has become so much easier now that a claim can be made by the vet and it is processed within minutes. My insurance helps me to make decisions for my cat’s welfare without the worry of whether I can afford to pay. Thank you for your service. Show details · 1

Horrible customer service. After wishing to dispute a claim - emailed and only received a response back 11 business days later, saying I would receive a response from the claims department in 1 to 2 business days… now 6 business days no response. In that email I was also told the claim had been addressed as a pre existing condition - even though… Read more
the claims were for diagnostic testing that did not diagnose any condition… huge regrets moving from an insurer that was FAR more responsive.

Good insurance but a nightmare to cancel the policy. They didn’t respond to my email to cancel so I called and arranged for my policy not to renew on 31 December. I received email confirmation. until 31 December as per my initial request not to renew the policy. This was then confirmed on email that the policy would run until 31 December and then not renew. I then unbelievably got an email a few days later saying the policy would auto renew on 31 December. Absolutely ridiculous.

My dog has been covered for 10 years now by RSPCA Pet Insurance (Hollard Insurance) and just received the annual renewal of $2760.00 per year. I called RSPCA today to discuss the way I was being charged for Luna’s insurance. I have been reviewing all of my outgoings as I am not working. I contacted to cancel my insurance as the premium had gone up which I could no longer afford and since my fur baby was really at the stages where no amount of insurance could cover for old age. the wonderful customer service staff Benedict was very supportive and offered to waiver the next month (just in time for Christmas!) and if I still wanted… Read more · 1
